Yes they have funny bits but when you look into them you get some seriously interesting shit: krorks, the beast(and his clones), ghazghknull, chaddest of all the orks? Hell gork and mork would be nice to look into as well as they actually show a lot about ork mentality. (Well most of them anyways.)

      The big E uses them as council before the heresy, even the big E needs information. Therefore they are the literally eyes and ears of the big E. Custodies consider the priamarch the sons of the emperor, but inferior to them. As each of them are educated to the extreme, and the primarch primitive as they was strip of their right to undergo the education. I remeber in the novel it was said their physical ability was the lease of their ability, what was treasured was their mental capability. It was after heresy that they were left as guards, before that, they were the emperors personal advisor, tacticians, strategist. The lore has flatten them to make the space marine and primarch in the spot light. I think one of the main things that made the Custodes interesting for me is that they see the emperor not as a Father, not a God, and not a ruler of an empire, but a close friend and leader, like these guys aren't just warriors, they are philosophers, Military strategists, scientists, they fought with him to unite Terra and literally see the construction of the Imperium, they are privy on the most personal and human view of the emperor and most of all they are suppose to be exemplars of humanity, the emperor himself would come to them for Ideas, opinions, strategies etc, like imagine that? it's like a Primarch asking one lone Guardsman on battle tactics and ideas.

      The emperor didn’t consider him self superior, the imperium did. And he never said he was all knowing or demigod. The original lore, consider him to be a great leader of man, and man of great power. He is like most king, take council from the elite and he just take it to the extreme, he breed and educated his own council. At the end of the unification war, he was not alone, he banned human of his own ideal and created the army, and fought, and turn to making thunder warrior, he just lived so long that only malcadore and him was left. At the later stage, I think he was incredible lay lonely, considering he has to breed his council.

The authors do a really good job at basically making them machines. They don't take much joy in their prowess. They rarely seem actually angry at their enemies. The closest they get to emotion is shame when they feel they've failed somehow. Like in The Master of Mankind where a custodian is using his downtime to practice blade strokes, and chastises himself for being off by a millimetre. Or the custodian dreadnought who feels shame at the fact that he fell in battle and had to be put in a dreadnought.
      Honestly, the way they are now is terrifying enough. A demon outright states that the stars would burn out before one of them could be turned.

    A small lore error is this video from 14:00 to 14:07 you talk about a specific verse from 'Watchers of the Throne: The Golden Legion' from Chapter 2 (Valerian).
    Alexei Lev Tieron was the Cancellarius Senatorum Imperialis (Chancellor of the Council of the High Lords of Terra/Chancellor of the Imperial Council) was NOT a High Lord of Terra. The position simply oversaw the Council, the Cancellarius Senatorum Imperialis did NOT hold the authority of vote nor engage in any other duties or enjoy privillages such as a High Lord of Terra, he simply was a bureaucrat, the chief bureaucrat actually of the Senatorum Imperialis.
    Another example to wrap this around someone's head would be, that the Speaker of a Legislative Assembly is NOT a member of that legislation assembly he is an appointee for overseeing the assembly.

      The Anathema Psykana (Sisters of Silence) and the Adeptus Custodes form the an organization called the Talons of the Emperor.
      Now the Anathema Psykana does operate in a manner that no member of the public is to see them (Example: Watchers of the Throne: The Golden Legion, Chapter 3 and 6 ' Aleya') , whereas the Custodian Guard are not mandated by any form of directive regarding such in a decent number of circumstances. (Example: Watchers of the Throne: The Golden Legion, Chapter 8 'Valerian').
      The Custodian Guard form the apical (highest) defense mechanism of the Imperial Palace as one of their duties. Though they do have a moderate degree of psychic resistance, they are incapable of truly making a difference against major and moderate psychic players. The Anathema Psykana forming of women with the Pariah Gene effectively blank out psychic powers around them. They by themselves are not fully capable of protecting the Throne in terms of physical capability. So the Talons of the Emperor are effectively a coalition in that behalf, where the Custodian Guard act as the primary defenders while the Sisters of Silence offering psychic shielding (which is exteremly deadly against daemons or any immaterum spawn for that matter) and as a secondary force.
      Some other trivia, the Anathema Psykana also mans the dreaded black ships that take away psykers to be sacrificed to keep the Astronomicon and the Golden Throne running.

There is a great deal of conflict between the Emperor’s words and deeds. Guilliman recognizes this but he doesn’t have thousands of years of indoctrination to suppress it. I really think some of the eyes of the emperor (custodes who are even just a second slower just a touch weaker abd have to quit there guard roll) should become part of the personal guard of Dante. It would fit multiple goals for the emperor. 1) it would strengthen the bulwark holding back the enemy’s of man kind in nihilis kept at bat by the warden of nihilis through physical aid and the vast knoledge the custodes have. 2) it would work as a fail safe in case Dante would ever get any heretical traitorous ideas (yea I know Dante would never be a traitor under any circumstance but the custodes distrust space marines) . 3 they would serve as a direct link between the dark half of the imperium and the throne world itself guaranteeing that nihilis is always working in lock step twords the goals of the emperor. Plus it fits with the lore perfectly.

    Keep up the great work my dude. Seeing a notification that you posted a new video always brings a smile to my face.
    I really love the Grey Knights, the Blood Angels and The Sisters of Battle.

    I am still holding out hope that Sanguinius will make a return when the Big E himself fully ascends to Godhood or at least is shown in that form.
    We have a character like Saint Celestine who is a Living Saint that has come back from death numerous times.

    The best line from Valerian, that put the Custodian in a very interesting perspective, it is that they, the Custodian, have been built with a prey in mind.. the Custodes are, as you said, an Apex Predator, designed to predate upon an "herd", even a very dangerous one, the Space Marines (it is in the second book eith Valerian and Aleya if I am not wrong)..

    As far as your armour question, Custodes armour does seem to be better than Primarch armour! Primarchs generally have heavily upgraded and modified space marine gear, whereas Custodes armour seem to be packed with DAoT tech. Valdor's novel shows that their armour doesn't require a black carapace, that it enmeshes with them at a deeper level than power armour, that it increases the strength of the weather directly rather than using pistons and that the helmet had advanced targetting systems that shows trajectories of incoming rounds, sees through walls, assesses threat levels etc.

    Quick question I have looked online and have found no information about the subject , the question being why did the emperor need thunder warriors if he had the custodes, if like you said weshammer a custodes is 100 X the worth of a space marine and assuming they where at 10000 strong at the time of the unification wars the emperor had effectively 10 legions so why would he bother with thunder warriors if in the end he's gonna murder them and waste so much time and effort ?

    • @weshammer
      @weshammer  2 года назад +20

      From what I understand the custodians were not enough. They were incredibly powerful of course but it took an incredibly long time to produce a single one. He needed something that was powerful and efficient and could be created much faster. You could probably create a thousand thunder Warriors in the time it took you to make one custodian.
      Additionally, they were the precursors to the Space Marines and this is really important. They were a stepping stone to get to the astartes we know today. The emperor always had plans for conquering the entire galaxy. So he was putting things into motion to make that happen thousands of years before the grand crusade even began to materialize. So he was working on these Mass produced super soldiers not only to aid in the unification wars but more importantly, their numbers would be needed for uniting all of the human worlds under the Imperium's banners

      Back when the emperor made the thunder warriors the custodes never even had power armour and it took ages to make one custodes.
      By my understanding he needed a shock troops and fast hence why their genes were really unstable cause they were rushed prototypes designed to bring terra to heel while he worked on the astrates who were designed to bring the galaxy to heel

      Rob when Wes makes that metaphor "A Custodian is worth a Hundred Astartes who are worth a Hundred Soldiers each" it meant to be rhetorical and not lore accurate. It is like.. Filler conversation for the lack of a better word.
      Can the warriors of Golden Legion match up against a squad of Astartes? Yes and no. There are examples of both in the lore. If you look at Chapter 2 'Valerian' from Watchers of the Throne: The Golden Legion, Valerian clearly admits that when fighting against space marines, their kind i.e. the Custodian Guard had to be careful, especially against Chaos Astartes who had powers of the Immaterium as well as being from the origin of real space.
      Could you deploy a shield company of custodes to capture a planet? Yes. But that would heavily drain the Imperium if the Golden Legion was deployed en masse. Even producing a Custodes and his upkeep was a massive task with segments of the Imperial Palace dedicated to training, living, studying, and recruitment.
      It was decided that it was a much better idea logistically and economically, to send in millions of Imperial Guardsmen complemented by a Company or more of Astartes. And deploy legions en masse in dire circumstances such as those of Gyros-Tharavian.
      In a 100 v 1000 battle of standard Custodiand and Veteran Astartes, the Astartes would win simply due to their firepower. Both the Adeptus Astartes and then the Legio Custodes (in whatever offensive aspect required) were meant for tactical and and swift strikes, retrievals and missions. They were NOT meant for wars of attrition. A great example is the War in the Webway, which lasted about 5 years (which is measely by war hammer standards) and drained the Custodian Guard from its estimated numbers of Ten Thousand to about One Thousand.
      The thunder warriors were meant to be slightly weaker but much cheaper to produce by several orders of magnitude. There were many stages in the Unification Wars which came down to who could throw in more firepower and expend more warriors.

    • @ShadowGhost0117
      @ShadowGhost0117 2 года назад +1

      Because the Custodes were never designed to be used as a conquering army. They were everything but soldiers (yes they were taught warfare but they were bodyguards, scholars, poets, artists, politicians, philosophers, etc, anything except soldiers).
      Now I know that this definition sounds like what Roman legionaries were like (and to a point that’s true) but the job of conquering like the Thunder Warriors and Space Marines did was the one task that the Emperor never intended his Custodes to do.
