- Buford Sink is in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area near the west coast of Florida. Admission is $3.00 and a FWC waiver (search "permitme") must be completed online before your visit.
This is a cavern dive that reaches 170ft deep and is 73 degrees year round. - Развлечения
Dove it yesterday but with all the rain lately the visibility was washed out. Was better once we got around 30 feet but only went 65 feet as I was limited on dive time. Still fun and an amazing spot. One thing I will suggest is a lot of bug spray. The mosquitoes will eat you alive and follow you into your vehicle when you open the doors. I will definitely be back soon!
Excellent video. Going 6/24/23. 1st time
I have dove here very beautiful but it does have cave system which I can’t do .. but I enjoyed it except long walk carrying equipment ..
LOVE the sound of "scuba bubbles" Thank you for sharing. xxx
Thank you! Ya I haven't found anything more relaxing than silence and the sound of my bubbles.
This is an amazing and incredibly informative video! If I could watch a video like this before every dive, I'd feel much more prepared. There are many dive sites (like this one) that just dont have enough information online to really prepare a diver for their first time in that location. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much for the kind words! That's the exact reason I like to make the videos. It was a pain in the butt to research a location for hours and still not know what to expect. I have returned to this location at least 15 times, and it is by far my favorite cavern dive.
Unfortunately we have had some personal issues at home and no longer have a dive buddy (girlfriend). But I recently started my cavern class and have a cave buddy that may film with me. Fingers crossed!
@@TheFloridaDiver, I'm glad to hear that you are going to continue making your videos! Ill for sure be following. There are definitely some hidden gems around here and I love exploring them. Ive been getting more into filming lately because I love to show people these amazing underwater worlds. However, video editing is not my thing as you can see from the videos on my channel lol. I cant wait to see what you do next. Keep up the great work!
Nicely done! And thanks for the info.
Wow thats a long way to carry gear. Great video.
Nice seeing you guys there this weekend for a amazingly clear/cold dive! Love the cg too.
We had a lot of fun! Maybe we can work together in the future. It was nice meeting you, Happy Diving!
@@TheFloridaDiver Sounds Good!!
Killer video dude, I definitely wanna go visit Buford sink now!
Thanks for watching! It's definitely an awesome place to visit, have a good time!
Holy crap theres a ramp leading up to the spring now? I always had to follow ribbons or just kinda head in the general direction, trekking though the woods. I guess it's been a while.
I am happy to say my first trip to Buford was days after they installed the boardwalk. I have heard the horror stories about hiking in the muck, and hardly being able to find the site. However the easier access has led to many more divers visiting, and increased defacing of rock and carelessness.
It's still a beautiful sink, and I have since explored much more of it and always come home happy.
Great video
*Playback Speed 0.25 At 3:02 right side, it quickly goes forward and sharply turns to the left maybe. 2:52 Far-right side. At 3:33 and beyond there seems to be many more of them. Look like short calendrical white tubes that can, at any moment, turn/steer in almost any direction.
I believe your just seeing debris (silt) in the water, and then a changing camera perspective or the flowing current pushing the particles through the water. I have seen this many times, especially when we use bright lights, which then light up all the particles floating around, a term known as "backscatter". The better the light is directed on the subject and not the background or foreground, the better.
I slowed the video down with you and did not notice anything out of the ordinary.
More wonderous to me than sink holes and other "freaks" in nature are the people that venture into the abyss. I appreciate your filming and sharing this but do hope you don't meet your demise one day just for video or fanfare. Think Steve Erwin. Have crossed my fingers for you. Thank you.
So sorry about the long walk on hard surface. 25 years ago you had to slog through ass deep swamp water with an 80 on your shoulder .
Pro tip: go get your cavern certification.
Eagles nest is also a cool dive. It's also in Chaskawitzka. Not far from Buford.
also dangerous! be careful stranger
Please do not encourage anyone to dive eagles nest unless they’re cave certified.
Need to be full cave to dive even the ballroom, and hypoxic trimix if you want to go much further than that. If so, then yes, I’ve heard it’s incredible. I’m still working towards it and it’s a dream of mine to dive (hopefully soon)!
I really want to dive this site but finding a dive buddy has been a pain! I hope I get to do it before I head back to Texas.
We have been going frequently. I can reply back when we get a trip planned, probably the weekend of the 20th or 21st, if you're still here?
@@TheFloridaDiver I’m leaving that weekend but I can make it work. Have any social media where I can DM you?
@@cameronmahaffey3798 you can find me on Facebook " the florida diver"
Best video I've seen of this cave so far. I went today, got to 80 feet freediving but I couldn't get any good footage...Where and how did you get such an accurate 3D rendering of the cave? Did you make it yourself?
Yes, i created it with a program called blender. I actually make 3d models of all the spring systems but hardly ever use them in video. Thank you for the kind words 😀
@@TheFloridaDiver super late to this comment but I’m a web developer. It would probably be really cool to combine your renderings with 3js to create an immersive 3D website for cave divers.
@@markbond08 I had a ton of fun making them, however these days I'm so busy I can't dive or fool around with photogrammetry. Thats what I originally wanted to create, something for divers to take a peek under the surface before they dove a new spot. Wish I was able to help, my last dive was June 6th last year 😢
any chance you could share the 3D model with me? Planning to visit this weekend and like you said there isn't a ton out there
Two divers died there this afternoon. One made it to the surface and was pulled on the dock by Law Enforcement, the other is still in the cave.
Oh no, that's super tragic. Do you have anymore info to the story? I researched what I could while chasing around my toddler to no avail.
@@TheFloridaDiver I was live a few miles away from there. Was monitoring it after I seen it on FB Scanner for my area.
All I know is what was transmitted.
Deputy pulled one on the dock, the other was still missing. Dive team called. I have not monitored it, so I dont know if he was recovered yet.
@@stevebrazeau9787 I appreciate the feedback. This is my favorite dive site in all of Florida, please keep us updated if you hear more. Condolences to the families.
@@TheFloridaDiver I have read the second diver has been recovered.
Nice video! could have used some info on temps at diff depths.
Temperature the same top to bottom all the springs in Florida are same temp top to bottom you may run into some temp difference but just by a few degrees. Temp usually 67-70 degrees
2 divers died here yesterday. RIP.
Blue grotto!
cool video man thank you for sharing hope to see some more soon
swing by my channel and check out some of my videos
Thanks! I will check it out.
big mistake only one tank and not mixet!
I dive twinset now. Still not mixed if going around 120ft. Thanks for watching
I suggest before making these videos, and showing divers without the proper certifications where to dive, you get at a minimum cavern certified. In this video you are diving a site that requires a redundant air source, redundant lighting, redundant gas management and so forth. It also requires training in OOA situations, limited to no visibility training, proper gas management training and more. By posting these videos you are inviting divers with little to no experience to dive here without the proper gear and training, like seen in this video. There have been deaths here, and there will be more if this continues. And worst the state will shut this site down. This is not a site for divers without at least a cavern certification and you’re extremely irresponsible for displaying these videos.
I'm going to leave it, thanks though. Can't dive anymore, just got into diving twinset and cavern when I became a single dad. This video doesn't condone anyone to dive outside their limits, and this site does indeed have an open water area. Might not be big, but good luck trying to keep people out. Call of the cave (assuming cave diver) sounds like you are tired of freedivers and single tank guys. But chat it up with fwc who produced a boardwalk and stated that certified divers may enter (no cert restrictions). Cheers
