    I live in Florida and I feel as if Silver Springs should be on this list. There’s so much history there, you can do glass bottom boat tours, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! I’ve stayed at the campground there as well and it was just all around a great place! The only thing about Silver springs is there is no swimming in the spring but our boat driver asked if anyone went to a nearby spot that allows you to swim with manatees, many of the guests on our boat had already gone. I’m not sure what that spot is but I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to figure out.

On the weekends it is party Central for the adults and children and a lot of air boats . And what makes it so cool is when you walk maybe 150 feet from where you get in you can drink . Ginnie Springs (a few miles west of Gilchrist Blue) is #1 hands down. It is larger acreage wise (with at least a mile of primitive site's along the SantaFe river) and has 5 springs (technically 6) with 2 of them Mag 1and the clearest water in Florida. It is a Zoo in the Summer but in the winter the water is warm and you'll feel like you have it all to yourself. I live close by and dive it 30-40 times a year. Manatee, Troy and Lafayette Blue Springs are worth a mention, Not sure if Troy allows tents. Still this was a good Top 5 list.

    I went to school at Jacksonville University and we used to frequent Ichetuckee Springs State Park during our breaks. It was amazing, beautiful crystal waters - located going West through I-10 going through Lake City and then heading South. Easy parking, and we would rent inner tubes. The water was always refreshing and cool and we would gently start Spring Head entrance and end at the South Takeout area. As with any wild preserve area, be careful there are water moccasins in the area. One time while I was in the inner tube one swam across the river crossing from one end of the stream and just a couple inches away from me while my feet where up in the inner tube. They generally tend to stay away from people because of all the noise and commotion as you have families, friends, going down the spring talking and enjoying the spring.

      My favorite springs to swim close to my home is Ponce de Leon Springs State Park (day use only), but busy holidays = reduced visibility = decreased enjoyment. They just expanded the parking area there and that can only lead to more congestion. 😬
      The most beautiful springs I’ve ever been tubing on is Itchetucknee Springs State Park near Gainesville (no camping, but O’Leno State Park is very close by and is a beautiful place to camp).
      We camped and kayaked at Silver Springs State Park near Ocala, and it was beautiful as well.
      We take visitors to Wakulla Springs State Park near Tallahassee. We have stayed at the rustic lodge there (highly recommend) and the glass-bottom boat tour down the river to look for alligators and other wildlife is always enjoyable.
      Thanks again!

    • @archangele1
      @archangele1 5 лет назад +6

      I live outside High Springs and I have diamondback rattlers where I live and
      they are 3 - 5 feet long. Those babies can kill a person but they are generally
      not as aggressive as the pygmy rattlers seem to be. Still, you need to pretty much step on one before they will strike. Big thing is that dogs tend to
      bother these snakes. Two dogs perusing my yard have been bitten and
      killed since I have lived there. So, they are excellent at removing
      those annoying roving pitbulls.

    In the late 80s a sewage plant was built in a crucial spot and it began to seep through the limestone into the aquifer and had a devastating effect on Wakulla Springs unfortunately. Local runoff has added to the overfertilization problem. It was so crystal clear, up through the 80s the glass bottom boats which were a major draw ran year round, now they dont run too often. The jungle cruises still run though.
    That being said it's still beautiful and a great place to go!

      @@9sunstar9 Ultimately yes. Jaques Cousteau himself called Ginnie Springs "the cleanest water in the world". If you're a diver it's amazing, but just as a nature lover, it will center you. RIght down the road is Devil's Den, also mind-blowing.

      @@9sunstar9 In the past 48 hours i have been to Juniper springs, Alexander springs, silver glen springs, salt springs, silver springs, rainbow springs, gilchrist springs, and Ginnie springs. Ginnie springs(which is actually 5 different springs all on one river) absolutely blew every other I have seen in this state out of the water. Not to mention the freedom of it. You can swim literally anywhere you want. Not just in designated areas.

    Random question. I know fl has tons of gators so I’m assuming there are gators in the springs?

    • @davidblackwelder7063
      @davidblackwelder7063 5 лет назад +2

      100dblock ... gators generally will stay out of the SWIMMING area and are usually farther down the springs...if kayaking gators will sometimes be sunning on some log ... never feed gators ...

    Having lived in Gainesville for many years we always had gatherings and camping at what is now Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park. It was private back then and when they closed the gates it became your private paradise. I'm glad to see it brought into the state park system so it can be preserved for everyone to enjoy. I've visited all these parks. Growing up in Orlando Wekiwa and Rock Springs were the home swimming holes. If you don't get in line before 7am at Rock Springs in the hot months you're not getting in. If you do, start at the spring head and walk down the run. Scoop and sift the fine bottom and you'll be amazed at the prehistoric sharks teeth you'll find. As always, respect nature. Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but foot prints so many can enjoy these wonders.
