Thank you thank you thank you for stopping me from making a big mistake. You made a lot of sense along with giving me another idea to achieve the same results without messing up a new barrel so a big pat on ya back and God Bless ya Brother .

The size of the gun, for example I ported my shadow 2 for IDPA. I did it for 2 reasons 1st so the gun makes weight and second it doesn’t add size to the gun so it can fit in the IDPA box
Do vented slides have advantages for 45acp? I’m in Cali so I can’t have threaded barrels. My theory is if I use Speer gold dot 200+p ammo the vented slide will help. Or do I have to change recoil spring also? I kinda don’t want to do that just because I see people saying when they switch the stock spring out their glock they all of a sudden have malfunctions. I already have a Glock 21 with vented slide. I’m thinking about venting the top of my Glock 30.
Slide lightening has a little mechanical advantage other a slightly lighter slide. it does help in some applications but it is mainly for looks. Generally if you have feeding issues it will be due to the recoil spring old or not correct for the loads or additional tuning/barrel throating is needed.
Recently ported my CZ Shadow2 as an IPSC Open Gun and I have to use a high speed steel tool bit to scrape the deposits off of the top of the barrel. It was an experiment am I sorry I did it no. But I would not do it again as I have compensators that work better (not all comps work)
What's your honest opinion on slide lightening for a defensive handgun? Would the cuts create a Murphy's law situation where debris could actually cause a reliability issue?
@@fusionfirearms When you say adds mechanical advantages to lighter calibers like 9mm can you state what those advantages are? I also am thinking of getting my slide cut on my 9mm carry gun to lighten it a little bit more. I'd love to know, thanks!
Have always admired the look of ported barrels. But after viewing this video, it simply isn't worth the downside. Will look forward to the video about compensators. If possible, please address what might work in NJ as that state doesn't allow visibly threaded barrels (for the purpose of suppression).
Good info. Cleared up some of my thoughts About blowback and burnt power build up.same goes with the new style ported slide with short barrels Just my opinion. I went with the compensator and am now lookin to build my bride my best yet with any luck.
I think you mean slide lightening holes. well, 1- they look nice and everyone wants to take a pretty girl to the range, & 2 on lighter calibers the slide lightening helps with performance and reliability.
Larry Kelly Rest In Peace popularized Mag-Na-Port and the porting never cracked any barrel he made. I love the porting of my revolver by Mag-Na-Port. I wear electronic noise canceling headphones so no problem for me.
Most barrel ports are geometric trapezoids? 🤔 I rarely see that. Most are circles or oval shaped. And as far as the debris build-up under the slide, that's probably more affected or damaging on 1911s due to the cylindrical shaped slide matching the barrel. Your typical striker fired pistols have trapezoid shaped slides, so there's more space/gap in between the slide and barrel, therefore the chance of damage/fouling by debris build-up is much less likely. Also, I'm sure it would take hundreds of rounds before any substantial damaging build-up starts occuring.. Clean your firearms and you shouldn't have any problems
I have a V ported Voodoo Priest 9 with over 20,000 rounds. You are way off base about porting. If done incorrectly by a overconfident gunsmith yes it can be an issue.

Thank you for the nice comments and support. We are working hard to make you good content with real value.
The existence of compensators has always made me question why porting was even a thing. Great content, as usual, Fusion Bob.
Thank you sir
Compensators have reliability issues,

How do you remove a burr on the inside of the barrel after you port the barrel?
A scraper and then a copper brush with very fine lapping compound.

It does not cause any mechanical issues. Looks nice and will add some mechanical advantages to lighter calibers like 9mm. Good question

Mounting a compensater on a bull barrel would be a pita
So porting each side at an angle equally spaced would seem the easiest solution
Yes, but you get a lot of crud build-up. I will post pictures of this soon.

These are slide ports not barrel ports
@@fusionfirearms 2:25 You literally said it here.. Most barrel ports are not trapezoid
So I understand what your saying. But way cut all the way throw the slide . When you can stop before that and still lighten it up ?

Not really, On shotguns they seem sensible, on any metallic full projectiles, I have never been a fan. The negatives outweigh the positives.
Ill pass on this trend.
😂
Apparently, no transgender pistols from Fusion at this time.
No, we have not figured that one out yet.
