Do people actually understand and comprehend the fact that David Bowie literally one of the greatest music stars of our time was so humble enough to sing a few lines on this track with no credit just because he liked the track! The world is a poorer place without people like that.
Bowie fue uno de los mejores músicos modernos, más grandiosos que han existido en la tierra. Junto con Juan Sebastian Bach. El alemán. Que fue barroco.

I love the fact that Bowie was involved in this. Apprently he was at the studio when they were recording it and he said "If you don't release this, I will"
When I first heard this song I thought it was repetitive and way too long. But the more I listened, the more I realized that it was an absolute masterpiece. It rises, it falls, it changes, it transforms. It gets quiet and it gets loud, and if you put headphones on you can hear every little sound and vocal that just add to this incredible experience. I'm so glad I caught on to it. Such an addicting and wonderful experience of a song.
did you hear the story about it? AF recording and bowie's recording his, he pops in and AF ask what he thought (I think if I'm right in remembering Af were unsure if they wanted to use it) and bowie says use it. because if you don't I want it. so AF said join in on vocals. One of my favourite bowie stories.
About Bowie participation, from Wikipedia: Richard Reed Parry noted, "It was just after The Next Day had come out. He basically just came by the studio in New York while we were mixing, just to have a listen to the stuff we were doing. He offered to lend us his services because he really liked the song. In fact, he basically threatened us - he was like, 'If you don't hurry up and mix this song, I might just steal it from you!' So we thought, well why don't we go one better, why don't you sing on our version? Thankfully he obliged, and we were really happy about that."
That quote makes it sound like the band weren't fans, didn't want him on, sad, thang is son, Bowie was dying of cancer, was on his mind, he would've featured his voice for free on any poppy piece of crap just to be nice and leave more of himself in this world, could be wrong, but hell, if Bowie asked to be on my song I'd have him sing more than 1 super short line more than 2 times. But hopefully the quote is just the dude bragging, meaning he is a fan.
John Razimus Why on earth would you interpret a quote like that so cynically. Like holy shit obviously its a joke, anyone with a dayjob of music is going to be honoured to feature david bowie in their music but you have to understand its mutual respect and David was probably honoured to have a part in it.
John Razimus could you back up your reasoning for that please? Because it looks like to me that you just can't come up with an actual argument so just took to hurling unfounded insults. LOL

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest songs of all time. The layering and build-up is incredible. It is also surprising; when you believe it has finished or is carrying a traditional style, it automatically flips the tables and becomes new. Incredible :)
It is a very well done song, the structure, the production, reflektor really isn’t a bad album at all I think people just don’t like the change in style and their attempts to dull down their musics intent to a more commercially radio friendly pop audience. It is understandable that this would polarize fans, a lot who were more into their first 3 more indie rock albums but The Suburbs really made the band blow up and start to change, that’s what happens in the music industry
Good analysis. I absolutely think it's one of the greatest songs of all time. When it hits the breakdown (the shot where they're crawling on the ground) I get chills every time.
I’ve only just heard this song in 2022. This is an amazing ride and one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. It truly is a masterpiece. Just incredible.
I feel you. I've listened to Arcade Fire before but never really caught up on them. Now it's the thing I listen to pretty much everyday. Now I can't wait to see them in September !
@@ignitneroc9803 Me too! 🎉 I’m late to the party. Going to see them for the first time in December in Toronto 🎉 - I’m 65 but I still enjoy techno like when I was much younger listening to Depeche Mode - the Pet Shop Boys and all the earlier electronic sounds - New Order etc - going to see Depeche Mode when they hit Toronto in April 23
I first recall hearing Reflektor circa 2015. I've always thought it was a great song. For those who enjoy this, I highly recommend albums like Reach the Beach by The Fixx and Sons and Fascination by Simple Minds.
: lyrics: [ : Trapped in a prison, in a prism of light Alone in the darkness, a darkness of white We fell in love, alone on a stage In the reflective age Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore Entre les royaume, des vivants et des morts If this is heaven I don't know what it's for If I can't find you there I don't care I thought I found a way to enter It was just a reflector I thought, I found the connector It's just a reflector The signals we send are deflected again We're so connected, but are we even friends? We fell in love when I was nineteen, And now we're staring at a screen Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore. Entre les royaume, des vivants et des morts If this is heaven I need something more Just a place to be alone Cause you're my home I thought I found a way to enter It was just a reflector I thought, I found the connector It's just a reflector Just a reflection of a reflection of a reflection, But I see you on the other side We all got things to hide Alright, let's go back Our song it skips on little silver discs Our love is plastic, and they break it to bits I want to break free, but will they break me Down, down, down, don't mess around I thought I found a way to enter It was just a reflector I thought, I found the connector It's just a reflector Just a reflection, of a reflection Thought you were praying to the resurrector Turns out it was just a reflector. ]
When this album came out, it completely, totally, wholeheartedly dominated my entire existence for a solid year. I was utterly obsessed with this album. An audio timestamp, a marker of my life in 2013.
You nailed it. Time stamps is what AF albums were. I have so much good memories even boring ones that wrap around the albums and discovery sequence that pushes me to feel then and way back then and it freaking hurts those years are far far back and I got no soul to consume on the last two albums so far. EN pre release holds a memory and It's my fault I think. I designed that album including title amd guest musician. That's y infinite content is like ehhh.....magical rocket engines hanging down and mask worn way pre 19 that's that I am stayed out of all the other albums hahaha ahhhhh
To me this is their Stairway to heaven (in a positive way). One of those longer songs by a great band that seems like it's only a couple minutes long when you listen to it. Great band.
***** Go back to your classic rock videos. Once again someone who isn't able to take his or her time to understand a simple comment. I never said this is a great song (even though I DO believe that) but that it's one of those very long songs that is more fun to listen to than most 3-4 minute long songs.
***** Yes, but I can't listen to those (except for a few Pink Floyd songs like Dogs, Echoes and Shine on you crazy Diamond). 7 minutes is long enough for an indie rock band.
I've been to many concerts, but theirs was so fun! It was the Reflektor tour, it was a total party and there was a dress code telling you to dress up on the ticket which made it even better and honestly people got into it and it completely changed the atmosphere. Hope to see them again on tour soon!
I'm writing this during quarantine 2020. I first heard this song when I was 14 (in 2016), now I'm almost 18 and I can surely say that this song is one of the best songs of my entire life. It means a lot to me. For four years I have not stopped listening to this song and with every listening, in every life situation, I find something close to my soul. Love Arcade Fire with all my heart. I send everyone virtual hugs and support in such a difficult time. ♥️
I don't get why people are listening to it if they don't like it. Arcade Fire is one of the few bands that gives me goosebumps, mostly because their music is art, not only a business.
This song has one of the most perfect progressions of music. There are songs you hear and you think, they should have taken this farther...not this song. This song moves through each stanza into the final climax of sound. It is so perfect I can’t help close my eyes and I cannot seem to ever watch the video. God knows I have tried. It is just too good not to close my eyes and listen to every chord.
I remember them doing this on SNL with the Reflektor box & Tina Fey being SO excited to announce they were going to stick around and play a whole set. SO JEALOUS! Such artistry.
That piano riff at 5:28 has been my soul since I discovered this song in my teens. 🤪🤪♥️ Love you Reflektor. The experience you give is unique, haunting and exhilarating. Rock on Arcade Fire 🔥🔥 🔥🔥 🔥
I can't get over how good this song is. Such a masterpiece of good rhythm composition. Everything. And it's just a reflector. Imagine the original of the original
David Bowie's voice mixes so perfectly with Win's voice, it gave me chills! :D And you know you're going to have an awesome video when is directed by Anton Corbijn. Is a full circle really, they felt inspired by Depeche Mode on the making on this album
+Sochilinda More than that, this *SOUNDS* like something Bowie might have written. So much so, that when Bowie heard the song he told them "You had better record this or I will." So they asked him to sing on it. And the rest, as they say, is history.
+Gayle L this is the kind of songs that are suppose to be performed live. When I first saw this video I also felt it was long, but after seeing them performing live it really makes sense. They are really awesome!
I'm so glad to see a comment referencing Depeche Mode. Actually this entire music video makes me think they got some type of inspiration through "Never Let Me Down Again".
i believe that if more people were to listen to arcade fire ; the world would be a far better place! their work is like Plato and Socrates hit everything that encompasses the evolution music . true poetry ,philosophy , art and most importantly positive energy : that flows through us all .
There are songs that transport you to certain memories, and this one takes me back to seeing them live with my ex girlfriend, who I was in a relationship with for almost 9 years. We were both a little drunk and the lights flashed all around us as she grabbed my face and said “it’s just a reflektor” while I looked into her half closed eyes. The music was loud, but perfectly loud. We both seemed to know this would be our last concert together, and we enjoyed it to the fullest.
Me and my ex been together for 6 years. Exactly one week before our break up, we went to see them live. The entire setlist was so emotional (At the moment I didn't figure out why, then I understand it many months after) Afterlife, Reflektor, We Don't Deserve Love... But The Suburbs Continued was heartbreaking. I sang her 'If I could have it back, all the time that we wasted... You know I will love wasting again, wasting again, again, again and again..." while we both started crying. When I look back at that time of my life I feel so grateful for having her by my side for a long, long time. We shared so many beutiful moments and memories (Some of them are the bests that I've ever had.) I miss her every damn day, and when I listen to Arcade Fire it feels like home, you know? Its like we are still at that place, and we always be... (My english is a work in progress. Hope you are ok)
I cant stop listening to this song! There is just so much going on. The range of emotions and thoughts it provokes is just astounding! This is a great band, and I am happy they do what they do. This song is a masterpiece. Keep it up!
it seems the cats in arcade fire never run out of creative ideas. they actually kind of took a bit of an electronic almost talking heads-esque new wave turn on this one. I think what makes this song/video brilliant is that its constantly building, building, creating more and more tension, building but never really quite gets resolved and I admire that they dont ever really spell out a meaning or explain anything in any way. modern day abstract art in music and video done effortlessly
This has to be one of best videos I have seen ... ever ... I am mean we are talking on par with Michael Jackson's Thriller. THis is a masterpiece of psychedelic iconography.
No estaba errado. Éste tema es sólo una muestra. Saludos desde Bariloche, Patagonia Argentina.
I swear Reflektor has to be one of the best albums ever, and for me that puts it right up with Darkside of the Moon, Disintegration, Songs of Faith and Devotion, and a few others. Just my honest opinion. I first heard it on KNRK 94.7fm in Portland, Oregon. Gustav, one of the greatest radio DJs EVAR played the who thing for us, and I was 100% captivated. Bravo, Arcade Fire.
That part always give me the chills.. that, and when Bowies voice enters this beautiful weird universe.. This is truly the shortest ~8 minute song in the world - I almost always listen to it twice in a row. Even though I'm a big fan of AFs early work this song just completely shatters me (pun intended) every time
I’m here because they’ve taken this out from apple music and I’m pissed. One of my all time favourite songs. The whole album is gone, don’t know what happened.
another song many will hate...specifically those who don't know that you can, in fact, listen to a song more than once and learn to love it rather than being immediately hooked by a song's "catchiness"
"We fell in love when we were nineteen, and now we're staring at a screen.." That goes for a lot of people around me. People change a lot between late-teens and mid-twenties, but yeay they got so comfortable in their relationships that now they're afraid to be alone. Even though their partners likes completely different things than they do.
+Peter Timowreef I hear you man, it's definitely "and now we're staring at a screen", which is a lyric that definitely has a lot of resonance with me and people I know. I think the relationship in the song has faded into a detached and depressing reflection of itself, and it's the same kind of relationship that you mention. Really sad.
Tom Lute Yea bloody screens man. Entertainment so readily available we stop looking for it. And when you stop looking you miss all of the marvelous oppurtunities in crazy directions that might've presented themselves if we'd just go out there. But no, we don't have to go to that museum, orchestra, park, party, friends house, show, circus, bar, pub, theater, cinema, restaurant or bowling-alley because we got mother truckin screens. I'm doing it right now ffs.
+Peter Timowreef Haha exactly, this entire album is essentially directed at the kind of people who sit around commenting on youtube videos haha. And here we are! Even though I'm screen-hopping at this very moment, I feel happy that my best memories of this song are of dancing with other people to it, or playing it in cars with people on our way to somewhere awesome. No screens involved! Gives me hope, at least for myself.
Yea my interpretation is that we can connect to people over the world with just a touch of a button, yet ultimately we inevitably just seek out like minded people, who are able to echo our own thoughts back at us, so we end up both literally and metaphorically f**king ourselves.
one of my favorite bands, i heard them at a club in LA and loved them since then. another guy I'm digging is Kaleb Hanly "Morning Light", he reminds me of arcade a bit.
Omg!!!! The same thing happened to our puppy who used to notice the French lines. He died 3 years ago and whenever I hear this song, Im reminded of him.
Funeral and Neon Bible will always be my favorites but this album and The Suburbs are also excellent. Definitely one of the top 3 bands of the decade, IMO. These guys, MGMT, and Spoon.
Really, you mite be in your early 20's, 1st time I've heard this song, there is so much you've prob never heard, maybe just try music from 1971, every song a hit & classic ✌

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest songs of all time. The layering and build-up is incredible. It is also surprising; when you believe it has finished or is carrying a traditional style, it automatically flips the tables and becomes new. Incredible :)
Hipnotic
that's right.
Couldn't agree more, to my taste it's indeed one of the best songs ever made.
I was kind of expecting Bowie to be the guy in the mirror suit.
Awesome song! Missing Bowie. Great collaboration!
BeezoHow jajaja me too!
4:46 until the end, complete eargasm!!
lennoth yessss it’s perfection
Couldn’t have put it better myself !
Acabei de ouvir essa música no finalzinho de 2023 , gosto muito de ouvir muito legal .
: lyrics: [ : Trapped in a prison, in a prism of light
Alone in the darkness, a darkness of white
We fell in love, alone on a stage
In the reflective age
Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore
Entre les royaume, des vivants et des morts
If this is heaven
I don't know what it's for
If I can't find you there
I don't care
I thought I found a way to enter
It was just a reflector
I thought, I found the connector
It's just a reflector
The signals we send are deflected again
We're so connected, but are we even friends?
We fell in love when I was nineteen,
And now we're staring at a screen
Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore.
Entre les royaume, des vivants et des morts
If this is heaven
I need something more
Just a place to be alone
Cause you're my home
I thought I found a way to enter
It was just a reflector
I thought, I found the connector
It's just a reflector
Just a reflection of a reflection of a reflection,
But I see you on the other side
We all got things to hide
Alright, let's go back
Our song it skips on little silver discs
Our love is plastic, and they break it to bits
I want to break free, but will they break me
Down, down, down, don't mess around
I thought I found a way to enter
It was just a reflector
I thought, I found the connector
It's just a reflector
Just a reflection, of a reflection
Thought you were praying to the resurrector
Turns out it was just a reflector. ]
It's quite Sad....

Justin Millard thanks both of you guys , for people who are not Natives English speaker is a bit hard to understand all the words
That horn section! The percussion! Damn, what a good song!
When this album came out, it completely, totally, wholeheartedly dominated my entire existence for a solid year. I was utterly obsessed with this album. An audio timestamp, a marker of my life in 2013.
Me too. Side a 6 months before I even listened to b. Lol
Ten years! Ten years listening to this band.
The discovery of Bowie's feature in this song yesterday gave me the most amazing creeps ever. The Starman is among us.
To me this is their Stairway to heaven (in a positive way). One of those longer songs by a great band that seems like it's only a couple minutes long when you listen to it. Great band.
*****
No, your name is sh!t, this song is fantastic.
***** lol
I've been to many concerts, but theirs was so fun! It was the Reflektor tour, it was a total party and there was a dress code telling you to dress up on the ticket which made it even better and honestly people got into it and it completely changed the atmosphere. Hope to see them again on tour soon!
What was the dress code?
I'm writing this during quarantine 2020. I first heard this song when I was 14 (in 2016), now I'm almost 18 and I can surely say that this song is one of the best songs of my entire life. It means a lot to me. For four years I have not stopped listening to this song and with every listening, in every life situation, I find something close to my soul. Love Arcade Fire with all my heart. I send everyone virtual hugs and support in such a difficult time. ♥️
I freaking love this song, but at min 4:46 the saxophones give me the chills. It's incredible that a song can do this to me!
the saxophones and david bowie's voice are a perfect combination
I love it when Regine starts singing shit en francais
They're from quebec, pure pq lovers.
@@TheOCaddict21they dont get the quebec accent ,they are french
and sidenote I'm from quebec myself but I don't agree with their crazy politics to separate from canada obviously
@@TheOCaddict21 They want to separate Quebec from Canada????
@@raskacio9192 yes it's l'accent français, je le reconnais
I don't get why people are listening to it if they don't like it. Arcade Fire is one of the few bands that gives me goosebumps, mostly because their music is art, not only a business.
This is their only good song
@@mgic 🤨
Suburbs is good

This song has one of the most perfect progressions of music. There are songs you hear and you think, they should have taken this farther...not this song. This song moves through each stanza into the final climax of sound. It is so perfect I can’t help close my eyes and I cannot seem to ever watch the video. God knows I have tried. It is just too good not to close my eyes and listen to every chord.
I remember them doing this on SNL with the Reflektor box & Tina Fey being SO excited to announce they were going to stick around and play a whole set. SO JEALOUS! Such artistry.
That's the first time I heard the music and this song. I wouldn't normally ever listen to anything like this but this song is gold
That piano riff at 5:28 has been my soul since I discovered this song in my teens. 🤪🤪♥️ Love you Reflektor. The experience you give is unique, haunting and exhilarating. Rock on Arcade Fire 🔥🔥 🔥🔥 🔥
yesss, its awesomeee
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Wow just speechless, one of the greatest songs i've heard in the past years.
Easily their greatest song. Such an underrated band and song. I could honestly listen to her read me the phone book in French.
F*ckin goddamn! I was looking for this song soooooo many years and I finally found it today...
Now I can die with peace. I'm literally crying
I can't get over how good this song is. Such a masterpiece of good rhythm composition. Everything. And it's just a reflector. Imagine the original of the original
You know your band is lit when you got a legend singer backing you up
surely one of the most ambitious releases in recent memory? 3 part song structure, intense music video, guest vocal appearance from David Bowie
+Jesse Smith - With Bowie and the band inspired by DM, sounds like a winning combination. A little long, but a great-sounding song, none the less.
Hell, yeah, it's Tuesday. Time to put on my giant head & go be weird in a field.
You need an old Army truck.
Queniff R bahahah!
Mondays are dangerous that way....
This made me laugh so hard soda came out of my nose. It hurt but I don't care I'm still laughing
Im in!
This song is a piece of art
That french voice is amazing. I'm fascinated!
THIS SONG ITS SO ADICTIVE
like out and beyond......
addictive it is! cant hardly stop now...we are just a bunch of reflektors..
and thanks to Anton C
Agreed.
oh yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i believe that if more people were to listen to arcade fire ; the world would be a far better place! their work is like Plato and Socrates hit everything that encompasses the evolution music . true poetry ,philosophy , art and most importantly positive energy : that flows through us all .
That's quite possibly both the most idiotic and pretentious thing I've ever read. Well done.
A great song takes you on a journey, going up, up, up-and it just keeps going higher until the very end. This is art!
This is probably the best band in the world right now, they are simply amazing!
Hope you are ok)
probably cause you didnt marry her after 9 years...
Best song ever.
Nah.
if i were king i'd exile you. Haha
Bowenier
without a doubt!
I disagree.
I feel like the last two minutes of the song are so necessary and really makes this song epic
This song should never finish, just keep happening constantly, becoming like a rumour around your mind, never leaving you alone, happyly...
I'm glad this is actually 7 minutes of song and not just video cut-ins in between for some storyline
Why so much hate....they created a beat that nobody else would attempt to make. It's just a reflektor.
2:42 - 3:51 gives me chills every time. Amazing.
I blasted this sh*t with the top down last night cruising up Sunset Boulevard, them motherf*ckers couldn't believe me!!!.....Arcade Fire FOREVER!!!
2016BMWi8 hahahaha awesome dude
F¥{K YA!!! Loves it!!
Amazing song. NEVER get tired of hearing this masterpiece! Whew!
I cant stop listening to this song! There is just so much going on. The range of emotions and thoughts it provokes is just astounding! This is a great band, and I am happy they do what they do. This song is a masterpiece. Keep it up!
Reflektor is one of the greatest songs ever made! Amazing!!!
God dammit, you were supposed to be immortal, David.
+Longrat The Goblin King never dies bro.
He is, he's protecting our planet from the Spider from Mars as our very own Starman.
+Longrat I thought spaceman would live forever. That's what they told me, at least.
the blackstar is
He is immortal, through his music
it seems the cats in arcade fire never run out of creative ideas. they actually kind of took a bit of an electronic almost talking heads-esque new wave turn on this one.
This is one of the few songs out there that gives me chills whenever I hear it.
I got chills when Bowie started singing. What a legend.
Bowie will find the rezarektor
MERCI!
The great bands keep changing. Love the 80s electro pastiche - combined with late Lenny Cohen poetry. Canada is the America for human beings.
El Gran David Bowie los definió cómo " la mejor banda del mundo".
JUST A REFLECTION OF A REFLECTION OF A REFLECTION OF A REFLECTION OF A REFLECTION
That part always give me the chills.. that, and when Bowies voice enters this beautiful weird universe.. This is truly the shortest ~8 minute song in the world - I almost always listen to it twice in a row. Even though I'm a big fan of AFs early work this song just completely shatters me (pun intended) every time
Great track. Great band.
I’m here because they’ve taken this out from apple music and I’m pissed. One of my all time favourite songs. The whole album is gone, don’t know what happened.
Same for spotify 😠😠
sameeeeeee. I'm so pissed
Same! Maybe licensing rights?
🥺😭
Took it off amazon music too
another song many will hate...specifically those who don't know that you can, in fact, listen to a song more than once and learn to love it rather than being immediately hooked by a song's "catchiness"
"We fell in love when we were nineteen, and now we're staring at a screen.."
That goes for a lot of people around me. People change a lot between late-teens and mid-twenties, but yeay they got so comfortable in their relationships that now they're afraid to be alone. Even though their partners likes completely different things than they do.
*****
Ok Cynthia, please accept my apologies for saying such a blatantly ignorant thing.
Really sad.
Tom Lute
Yea bloody screens man.
Great track. The bridge from @2:42 - 3:51 is SICK.
My favorite part is the key change (is it called a key change?) at 2:59.
the mix of this song is top tier, all the elements on the right place.. production value 10/10
one of my favorite bands, i heard them at a club in LA and loved them since then. another guy I'm digging is Kaleb Hanly "Morning Light", he reminds me of arcade a bit.
Funeral may be my favorite Arcade Fire album, but this song is my favorite Arcade Fire song. The lyrics scrape into my soul.
What a hymn! Perfect songwriting. Phantastic lyrics. Pure art!
Every time I listen to this song it's like listening to it again for the first time. Amazing, well written, beautiful.
I don't always listen to Arcade Fire, but when I do, I find the connector!

My fav AF record .. Loved the dance vibes 👌
Yall should listen to Running by Retrofile .. Gives me AF vibes i think they Canadian too
Going to listen to them right now!
Funeral and Neon Bible will always be my favorites but this album and The Suburbs are also excellent. Definitely one of the top 3 bands of the decade, IMO. These guys, MGMT, and Spoon.

After 5 Years, still my favorite song of all time
Really, you mite be in your early 20's, 1st time I've heard this song, there is so much you've prob never heard, maybe just try music from 1971, every song a hit & classic ✌
