- When thinking of the Lufthansa Group, the first thing that comes to mind for most people is likely its core carrier, Lufthansa. Many others will also be aware that the group also includes a number of other airlines, including SWISS, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings. But this is truly just the tip of the iceberg, as the Lufthansa Group's activities have also included the modification of aircraft for VIP and government use, aircraft insurance, as well as consultation services for other airlines. Let’s look at just how big this company is, in today’s video.

It's honestly insane that two of the group's most profitable businesses, Lufthansa Industry Solutions and Lufthansa Systems, are not even airlines, but rather software and information companies which sell solutions developed for Lufthansa own operations to other airlines.
A bit like french airplane maker Dassault: they started decades ago to develop their own 3D computer aided design software or CAD to help in the design of their aircraft...nowdays the subsidiary Dassault Systems in charge of CAD software development is actually bigger and more profitable than the airplane making branch, Dassault Aviation...
I studied Mechanical Engineering, and used softwares made by Dasault Systems
Yesterday, Portuguese prime minister António Costa, while receiving the German chancellor Olaf Scholz, informed of the Lufthansa interest in TAP Air Portugal, saying they could complement each other very well, but with Air France - KLM and IAG (British Airways and Iberia) also interested, no promises can be made at the moment. TAP and ITA privatisation is something interesting to follow in the coming months
Iberia's hub at madrid is quite close to TAP Portugal's hub in Lisbon, so not sure about IAG.
@@tomAkelife-ff9tf yeah, IAG is pretty much out of the game, they would canibalize TAP, PT gov does not want that....
This is truly a German powerhouse! 💪🏻 🇩🇪
Can I thank Lufthansa for keeping the Boeing 747-8 flying
Also the -400!
And the a340
Ja kannst du tun.
Also the A380
@@agebee -400 really?? It’s incredible
Wow Lufthansa is absolutely massive! Another great video from simple flying. You always seem to make videos on topics that I have always wondered about 😊
What about Miles and More? It’s a 100% subsidiary and a massive asset.
Perhaps Southwest should give Lufthansa Systems a ring.
I start to feel Lufthansa gonna build it's own aircraft manufacture
You forgot to mention Lufthansa Industry Solutions! The IT Consulting of Lufthansa! 🙂
Knew a few conglomerates..but not to this extent. Well Done & Thank You!
7:24 beautiful old footage of FRA's terminal 1 back in the day. I basically grew up right there, so this brings back childhood memories... 🥲
I do really spend a lot of time knowing about all the subsidiaries of Lufthansa Group. If this video has came out before 3 years, it would have been real huge helpful thing to me. Still loved this video.
Proud to be a LHG employee but got say our airline is drowning in trouble. Low wages, overwork, erratic products and solutions, Frankfurt is caos, just came from there last week. I don't know, if they don't get their acts together, future will be tough.
Facing all these problems of LHG you are still proud to b e an employee?
Flew into Frankfurt as well last week, didn’t notice anything and all worked like clockwork?
Low wages? A new union contract came into effect August 22 - Erratic product? Lufthansa just invested 2.5 Billion Euros in the cabin product overhaul - Frankfurt chaos? What chaos? Strikes? Thankfully, Germany has certain workers rights, and they may affect airports and airlines. Same as in other European countries. Most recently the public sector had strike actions scheduled. But that has nothing to do with any airlines themselves.
@@marcd6897I think they're referring
LHG operations
Thank you very much for this very interesting and informative Overview!🙂👍
Nice. Hope to get more of this kind of video
A lot of this new to me. Some of the airline subsidiaries and some of the consulting is new to me.
Why Jettainer was not mentioned in the video?
Also it looks like Lufthansa will acquire Tap Air Portugal what would make Lufthansa group even larger .
Lufthansa ist currently in the process of taking over ITA...
Most of it outside of the airlines and technik were new to me.
Great video hopefully then can continue and add air france/klm group and IAG.
There is also Jettainer, a 100% subsidiary of LH Cargo
They aussi forgot Lauda Air, fully owned by Austrian
I'm watching this Aviation Video Topic on The IAG Group Of Airlines in this Video I'm watching right now on this Channel Awesome Video 100%
Lufthansa makes a lot... Really cool and nice!😊
Powerhouse 🎉
I love the video ❤
Luthansa Technik in Manila is strong MRO in SOUTH EAST ASIA
Nice video
Very interesting!
Eurowings Discover is the direct and fully owned Lufthansa new leisure airline and is seperate from Eurowings
Indeed, exactly. Eurowings Discover is built according to the model of Edelweiss in Switzerland.
@@NicolaW72 and Lauda Air in Austria
That's insane. I feel like airlines are becoming less like airlines. Also, why are Lufthansa selling a company that makes them $2,000,000,000? Lufthansa must be *swimming* in money from everything in aviation they do...
It may make them $2b but that doesn't mean anything if it costs them just as much
@@humongousballs True!
They might need cash for future acquisitions and get more market share in aviation industry, and their portafolio is diverse enough for them to do so…
@@loveisnotanemotionloveisli6512 Yeah that's probably true as well.
Thank you for this, also I arrived 2nd.
you failed to mention one of the most important softwares in maintenance and engineering which is AMOS. it is nearly used by whole airlines globally and currently, it is the most advanced system. also they have aviatar, a new software program for big data and predictive maintenance solutions.
7:36 - Aah, shit! Here we go again!
You missed Lufthansa Innovation Hub
Nice video, but I also think the flight school in bremen in Germany is missing
LSG group also produces space food
The pronunciation of Austrian was funny!
I immediately think of germanwings
Germanwings was shutted down during the Pandemic.
Why was LEOS not mentioned?
Probably the most versatile aviation corporation
wow i never knew swiss was ounder luftahnsa
You forgot Lauda Air, fully owned subsidiary of Austrian
Condor isn’t be catered by lsg since few years….
What about the milage program? I am sure the benefits program is worth billions. I am willing to bet it's a company in it's own right
All the swiss people can thanks Mr Bruggisser ex-CEO of Swissair for having so badly managed the company he was having the priviledge to run to have it cost billions to swiss tax payers and ended up finally in german hands. Well done Mr Bruggisser ! I have heard he is now living in his somptuous villa near the Zürich lake and barely dare to venture outside as he is now so popular for his great achievements.
@@Tortinger Not at all. Swissair was dommed financially well before the SR111 crash and the crash has nothing to do with the Swissair bankrupcy and subsequent recapitalizing by swiss taxpayers and sale to LH group. I don't know wjere you got that idea but it is completely wrong. Swissair was able to sustain the cost of the crash thanks to the Chicago convention and they were insured for that. No problem at all financially due to the crash.
@@12345fowler What today is Swiss International Airlines and part of the Lufthansa Group was until 2001 Crossair, founded in 1975 as a regional airline. Swissair became bankrupt in 2001 and didn´t exist any longer. Crossair was renamed into Swiss International Airlines after two crashes (Crossair Flights 498 and 3597 in 2000 and 2001), so that the people mix it up with Swissair. Flight SR111 was a Swissair Flight in 1998. Swissair and Swiss International are two totally different Airlines. Philippe Bruggisser was from 1996 until 2001 CEO of the Swissair Group. He had nothing to do with Swiss International aka former Crossair. Crossair was owned by Moritz Suter, who selled Crossair after the Crash of Crossair Flight 3597 to some Swiss Banks, who selled parts of it in 2002 to the Government of Switzerland who selled it together in 2005 to Lufthansa. What makes it even more irritating is that Moritz Suter was in 2001 also the last CEO of Swissair and therefore the successor of Philippe Bruggisser. The IATA-Code of Swissair was SR, the IATA-Code of Crossair and Swiss International Airlines was and is LX.

Hey! I have a question 🙋♂️. Home come you did not mention Condor? Aren’t they also part of LH group?
Condor has been sold off to Thomas Cook in 2002 and is now owned by a company called Attestor
@@mstrmren Indeed, exactly.
HelpAlliance is not affiliated with lufthansa. It is just run by Lufthansa employees.
The way he says aircraft. Just like in the safety videos😆
The way he says “Austrian”! Just like nobody.
concernant ITA il ne faut pas s exciter a ce jour la commission européenne n as pas encore donné son accord et il y a fort a parier que dans l hypothese ou elle le donnerai les restrictions et contraintes serait enorme
The LSG group does not have much to do recently. In the Lufthansa flights I took recently I was only offered a single half-empty chocolate.
In my job place cafeteria I was used to but them 0,10€
Lufthansa is always very efficient.😅 They keep costs low and prices high.
Where is Lufthansa Technical Training?
where is lufthansa techniks and the catering....
You forgot about Ukrainian International Airlines, which as a Subsidiary of Austrian Airlines, is also a part of Lufthansa.
Majority Owner of of UIA is Ihor Kolomoysky, a Ukrainian Oligarch, who´s also owning Windrose Airlines. He owns through his Holding Capital Investment Project 74% of UIA. Austrian Airlines is a Minority Owner and holds 22,5% of UIA. In fact Kolomoysky is running the Company and AUA has not much influence on the decisions.
That´s a whole other story as with SunExpress and AeroLogic, which are both Joint Venture´s.
Only LAUDA AIR is fully owned by Austrian
About what I thought that Lufthansa is up to… okay, a bit more.
Why can’t people use the word “number” when they’re talking about discrete things? Why is it always “amount”? Even 20 years ago, NOBODY said or wrote “amount of airplanes” or “amount of people.” Now, at least on RUclips, it’s invariably “amount,” just as if people or airplanes were like liquids. To an old man like me it’s bizarre.
I wonder which airlines have bossy stewardesses.
What about Hapag-Lloyd?
It is merged into TUI long ago.
I will laugh if Lufthansa decides to acquire a us airline or start one, but the question is, which airline?
*A partner UA
That will not work, at least not as Majority Owner. According to US Law at least 75% of an US Airline must be owned by US Citizens or Companies.
lh no longer owns sunexpress
The bigger the airlines, increasing-price control for passengers.
I'm German and I never flew Lufthansa in my whole life, even though I'm a frequent flyer. It is just too expensive and usually 300-400$ more on the same long-haul flight. Frankfurt - Bangkok direct flight with Thai Airways is 850$, and Lufthansa 1300$. Otherwise, you always can make a stopover and take one middle eastern airline for 580$. Never ever there was a cheaper flight with Lufthansa available. The service isn't that great, and the planes are old. What should be a single reason to take Lufthansa?
Too bad their customer service both on board and at the airports leaves a lot to be desired.
Doesn't Lufthansa own Condor?!
No
No. Lufthansa sold Condor in 2002 to Thomas Cook. After Thomas Cook became bankrupt in 2019 Condor faced a few years of trouble. A British Investment Company named Attestor owns the majority of Condor since 2022.
U forgot Brussel Airlines!
Some 50 seconds in this video it is mentioned. Even the amount of aircrafts....
@@thomashausner6962 Indeed.
Lufthansa owns Condor too
No they don’t. They founded Condor, but Condor does not belong to the group anymore since many years.
No. Lufthansa sold Condor to Thomas Cook in 2002. When Thomas Cook became bankrupt in 2019 there were a few years of great trouble for Condor, finally a British Investment Company named Attestor bought the majority of Condor in 2022.
POV you are German and laughing run he pronounce German words
Far too many aircraft types
My dream is to fly on the Lufthansa a340-600 🥹
They have the restrooms downstairs. Such a cool feature.
