- In our latest WTF series, we take a look at some of our favorite stars and filmmakers who have seemingly disappeared or altered their careers over the years to the point that begs the question; WTF happened? Now, before you think we're just picking on celebrities or running some gossip rag stuff, think again! We take a fun (and sometimes funny), researched and fair approach, looking at all angles that led our subject to wherever they are now (which isn't necessarily a bad place at all). If anything, it answers the question on where these fine folks went, how they got there and where you can find 'em now.
In our latest episode of WTF Happened To... we take a look at the career of Adrien Brody, who appeared mostly as a supporting actor in films like The Thin Red Line and Summer of Sam, until taking home an Oscar for Best Actor in Roman Polanski's The Pianist in 2002. After that he did a number of high profile films, including Peter Jackson's King Kong, M. Night Shyamalan's The Village, Predators, Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom and Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited/The Grand Budapest Hotel before disappearing into a number of odd roles and odd films that failed to show off his caliber of talent (although he did make a recurring appearance on Peaky Blinders). Brody continues to work steadily, but will we see him return to the kinds of roles that helped him take home the gold? Let's take a look at this fine actor's career to figure out WTF Happened to Adrien Brody!

Adrian is like Keanu Reeves. He takes roles for the experience rather than just the money. I never knew he worked so hard and was in so many versatile movies. This is awesome!
Only difference is that Brody can actually act.
I think even Keanu Reeves himself would blush with shame if he was mentioned in the same sentence as Adrian Brody.
@@heisen-bones the real difference is Reeves is actually still a leading man in successful films
@@christophertoulan9863 doesn't necessarily mean he can act
I met Adrien when he was in Wellington, NZ to make Kong. He was walking along, minding his own business, perfectly anonymously. I recognised him, rushed out to say "hi" and we had a brief conversation. He came across with understated cool. Managed to not draw attention to himself, while still having a charisma about him.
I'm so jealous
He is not the ordinary actor. He is much greater than most. So many expressions, so much emotions, so deep into character. I feel it, I love it, I cry watching it, I love it. What ever it is --- those moments I focus on nothing else, just Brody, what ever man! Great job and thank you.
Well summed up. The man is brilliant!
Agree!!!!!
Yes he is and I think you're very attractive!😍
That's why he is my crush. Btw I've just seen one movie of him, king Kong n there he compiled a very romantic charismatic as well as thrilling character! Omg I love him a lot. ..can't wait to watch The Pianist.
That's why i love him as well even in minimum screen time he makes me remember his character
he needs to play nikola tesla, that would be a perfect casting.
Oh yeah that would be a great role for him!😍
Yes
Yesss
He did a great Harry Houdini, so yes, I think would be amazing a series or film about Tesla with Adrien.
Or Franz Kafka, maybe? :-D
If they ever remake Ratatouille, he needs to be the star.
omg yes!
Ratpatoodie
Lolol Always who I think of when I see this guy, also
He would insist on going full method and requiring that the human character be replaced with a gigantic humanoid robot mecha suit with the controls built into the hair
yeah all he would need to do is dye his hair
Let him be. He doesn’t act for the expectations of others or maybe he has his own reasons. He isn’t answerable. To be honest, it’s kinda cool how he tries everything and takes chances on people and not their current success status.
Halle berry is not that important. She liked it.
It's weird to me that people want actors to play roles that look like people they've never seen in these based on true story movies. It's acting. Give the job to the best actor. I don't care if a black man plays a white man or vice versa as long as it doesn't affect the story and plot.
@dennybenz5846 did I miss something? Who said anything about halle?
Quentin Tarantino could do something with him
He SHOULD do something with him!
LOL, Quentin Tarantino has been falling off hard as hell Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Nothing good in that movie except Margot Robbie's dirty soles
Lost Vikings yeah I love Tarantino but that movie didn’t have a real plot it was just a day in the life of these celebrities. But it has pitt dicaprio and Tarantino’s names attached so it’ll make money. I feel like he rushed it even though there was a few years separating this one and his last. My least favourite movie of his, I feel like I’m not allowed to say I didn’t like this movie lol it had a few cool moments
@@nikolas_schreck Imo it was a very entertaining movie and the ending was just... perfect.
Only one movie left for Tarantino, let’s just hope 😢
He should play Salvador Dali, if they ever make a movie about his life again
No
He already does in Midnight in Paris
@@evergreenaful yep👍
He already did
And nikolai tesla too
I really loved Detachment. My favourite film ever. It affected me like no other film ever has.
Yea that was a good one
Ikr? I’m sad he only talked about that movie in 1 second in this video
@@oaheverything7242 not everyone can see art.
Am watching this video right after watching Detachment, holy shit is that movie life changing.
FR
I hope he wins another Oscar some day. He is a wonderful actor and very attractive in my opinion.
Very attractive
He just looks like from another era, fallen out of time.. it's like he can be anyone but no one at the same time if that makes any sense
Batman
Nicely put
@@heramakr2780 id love to see him in a Batman film
@@dakodablack7312 I had read once that he was auditioning for Joker in Nolan's Batman but in the end Heath took the role. I don't know if it's true but that would be cool.
@@_Spy_ yeah adrian is a great actor but heath just nailed it
Sounds like Adrian just loves to act and does it well. Imagine that.
His movie choice makes him kind of a prestige Nicholas Cage.
I was just gonna say! This is the alternate timeline Cage, where his hits/misses ratio is a little more balanced.
@@Mine-Finder if you know, you know. and vice versa
Wowwwww hahaha i love that description
@@Mine-Finder I'm sure it was purposeful.
@@Mine-Finder You can name 100 actors "better" than Nic Cage and he will make them all look boring.
I would've never thought of Adrien's career to be so bad. Actually, I wish more actors would keep it real like him.
2002 was a wild time mAaAaan
Ok nikki
@Rocko the skittles ruined it mainly
All I want for Adrien Brody is for him to star in a movie about Salvador Dalí, not a biopic, just a weird surreal movie about the man. It would be glorious.
YES!
didn't he played salvador dali in midnight in paris?
I feel you could've gone more into Peaky Blinders - he was pretty good. His portrayal of a mafioso with very Marlon Brando vibes was excellent, he nailed the husky voice and the general New Yorker demeanour
I love his performances, but never "liked" him. I can't explain it as he's tremendously talented, I just can't warm to him the way I can to poorer actors, he's missing something. I do think as he ages that'll likely change, I hope so.
He annoyed the hell out of me in Peaky. His accent was ridiculous and he didn't have the acting chops of Cillian Murphy or Tom Hardy.
His accent was over done everything was exaggerated
he was not that good in peaky blinders
He was soooo fine omlllll
"...right after a word from our sponsors"
I almost skipped ahead 30 seconds lol
hahaha
haha! Thanks for watching!
There were 2 commercial breaks so I dunno wtf he is talking about.
Me too! I've unconsciously programmed myself to skip ads so well it's an automatic response lol.
4Legacy yep, my index finger was working its way ever so slightly up to my iPad...you got me good there, man! 😄
Actually, there are a lot of actors who are actually "Actors" and who "act" in projects that they choose, rather than be defined as some "type" of actor. Very good.
In 1999, my father rented this movie called 'Oxygen' with a very young Adrien Brody playing a criminal that escaped police custody with a piece of wire from dental braces. That's pretty much how my introduction to Brody began. I liked him performance in 'Love the Hard Way', a very gritty New York love story about two street hustlers. I'm surprised not many people have mentioned either of these movies.
I saw that one.
Adrien Brody would be a great John Lennon.
If someone plans a new movie about some of John Lennon's real life adventures he will be amazing as him.
He'd be a great "my husband"
*So would Julian Lennon...* ☝🤓
Can you IMAGINE that...lol...okay that was really dumb
I never thought of that, but you are SO RIGHT!!!!
WTF happened to Tobey Maguire
He's the only Spiderman in my eyes. I wish Hollywood would give him more roles. He's not a bad actor.
Hey, that's a good one! We'll put him on the list!
JoBlo Videos Thank you
More of a movie producer than actor
his weird literally stiff upper was to gross to keep his leading man status
I found him very sexy in the Pianist and Cadillac Records. His acting is spot on
Agree- he was phenomenal.
No, Spaniards dont like jews or muslims.
His mom is from Hungary.
I thought he was sexy in Splice 😅
Gerd Wiesler he is a Jewish European of Polish and Czech descent.
"What happened to Adrian Brody?"
20 mins in: he hasnt done anything recently except for the four movies hes filming right now
For real?
WTF happened? He had a enviable career for over 20 years with all kinds of roles and movie genres.
It sounds like he just really likes working. There aren’t enough great films for a great actor. I hope Wes Anderson has something in mind.
His role in the Pianist is one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen. That movie is absolutely amazing.
King Kong role is the reason I had the biggest crush on him for years. ❤️
Same.
Getting banned from SNL is instant street cred.
🤣
He will BE BACK. he’s just laying low. He’s smart. Thanks for this one!
This series is SO GOOD.
You guys humanise actors by showing us their ups and downs and, by the end of each episode, have us routing for these people to have more success!
He was amazing in the 2005 version of King Kong. I was watching that movie the other day and it is really under appreciated but has stood the test of time. The cinematography, the plot and backstory development, costuming and acting-it really depicts the 1930’s in all its glitz and drab contrasts.
Loved it and love him in it!
He’s talented and one of the best American actors but he has a horrible sense of selectivity! He needs a good agent.
good analysis in my book
I agree 😂
Getting banned for life from SNL should be an industry plus!
He doesn’t need anyone to judge him! He’s the best actors in my heart!
I wish he’d play Jeff Goldblum’s son in something. They’re both so quirky. Now THAT would be fun!
Yes! I was just thinking I have an attraction to Adrian very similar to the one I have for Jeff Goldblum.
@@theresakeith5854 I agree with you both. There's something about Jeff's sort of idiot savant genius smooth cool that I think is hot.
@@Whipslinger1 oh my goodness, yes. He is sexy to me.
Directed by Wes Anderson and with Bill Murray thrown in somewhere. Sounds legit.
I love Him!!!Also, everyone I know, loves “The Village”. I like that he just enjoys his craft, good or bad he just does what he wants.
i for one like the fact me and him we have the exact same nose and large ears and we've never bowed to the pressure to erase those ethnic markers. he is my absolute hero.
The village is the equivalent to when you try desperately to take a shit but can't
I love you him too. I've got to disagree with the narrators opinion on the Jacket. It was one of the best movies I ever saw.
Melissa Brenton I’ve never heard of! Will look it up, thanks!
I love The Village, too!
He's on a quest. I thought everybody knew about the Brodyquest.
The dude danced off into the sun, became a rock god, ascended and subsumed the universe. As far as I'm concerned that's canonically what happened to Adrian Brody.
Adrian Brody is an amazing actor and The Pianist was his masterpiece. I liked him in Cadillac Records too.
I would like to see him with Keanu reeves in John wick as a evil counterpart who wants Keanu dead
That would be badass.
Adrain Brody is actually a great lead actor one of the best of the best when he's on point & chooses something that has a box office theatrical run Like Peter Jackson's Kong & Predators! I enjoyed both of those movies & they have rewatchable value
The Jacket is one of my favorite movies. I used to watch it, followed by Donnie Darko when I felt like being completely disassociated from reality.
The jacket is an amazing movie and was a true sleeper doing very well on rental at the time. At least here in the Netherlands it was. Many people here have seen and embraced it, just not in a theatre.
Always dug Keira Knightley in that as well.
Me too!
The Jacket, is one of my most favourite films, Adrien was the perfect actor to play that part, and the music score. Loved it.
"Cringy and not funny at all" is the new motto of SNL.
The worst thing, he's a great actor
He was fantastic in "Dummy" and "The Jacket"
Absolutely!
I liked the jacket and summer of sam is probably one of my favorite movies of all time if i made an actual list of favorite movies..
I also liked him in predators and the pianist..he would have made an awesome spock i think..
Jacket is so cool. Guy is great.
He is a legend. Period.
Adrien Brody is the most versatile actors ever. Some actors are the same no matter what role they are in...I could name names, but I won't...Brody can truly transform his looks, even though he is extremely unique-looking. He can go from a 'stoner' to a gangster to a 'dandy' to a romantic lead. He deserves that Oscar...many others don't.
I just loved Adrien Brody in “Love the Hard Way.” I have watched this movie many times over. His performance as a thug and hustler on the exterior while his true self is a deep thinker, journal-writer, sensitive, curious … makes me want to experience his performance over and over. His chemistry with a lovely (not very well known) actress Charlotte Ayanna, was perfection. I can’t imagine why this early 2000’s movie is so underrated. I highly recommend Adrien Brody lovers see this movie.
First time I saw him. Peter Jackson's King Kong
Last time I saw him. Predators
Haha me too :)
Predators is a good movie in my opinion.
Kong first as well but last for me was Budapest hotel
Both movies were decent, neither movie was great.
Last I saw of him was Peaky Blinders Season 4
I bet he puts up scripts on a dart board and just picks whatever he hits.
AB is one of my favorite actors and I miss seeing him! I hope to see him again soon!
Brody is so goodlooking..I love his screen presence regardless of his choice of movies.
you perfectly encapsulated my frustration with Adrien Brody coming as someone who wants to keep rooting for him but keeps cringing from the sidelines whenever he does his costly missteps. also thanks imma use the term Brody Bro now
I saw The Village without seeing any trailers (I was only about 7/8 when it came out) and loved it. The trailers seems like a studio decision to bring horror fans in for more money.
Love The Village!
It's great the first time.
It’s a twilight zone episode expanded to full length. That’s about it.
speaking of The Darjeeling Limited , WTF happened to Jason Schwartzman?
He knows how to live a full life. A great actor.
The Jacket was pretty awesome though. Dark and different.
Put me back in the box.
Yeah I like that movie
I love this film
I enjoyed Adrian Brody in that film. I don't think I would like the movie if he didn't play his part.
One of my favorite movies
In the immortal words of Laurence Olivier to Dustin Hoffman on the set of Marathon Man while the latter ran around the block to appear out of breath, "Have you ever tried just acting?"
Both won Oscars but in different circumstances. One for acting and one for his honorary contributions to cinema.
Adrian will always be a great to me! He's brilliant!
Adrien Brody is the epitome of actors. His virtues are as strong as the roles he plays. Legendary man that knows that “good” Box Office movies will allow him to keep doing what’s important and fun to him.
Obviously, he left earth, went to space, consumed the sun and eventually the entire universe.
It was a great day
hahahahahaha
Beautifully put in a video of the lads career, the movie detachment that stars Adrien Brody is rlly good too. Wholesome last part of the vid :o
I've always liked him. And his eyes are so beautiful. Awesome actor, indeed.
Predator should be covered in WTF Happened to This Movie? It was a fun little take on The Most Dangerous Game & I loved the various killers in the group. It's a good b-movie that kinda has been forgotten.
It was my son’s favorite movie 😂
Movie sucked
Predators was the last good movie he was actually in. He just fell of the earth after that.
The Grand Budapest????
probably one of the most talented actors I've ever seen
Aside from "The Pianist", I've watched "The Predators" several times already because I like how the film depicts a return to the mode of the first Predator film. Jim Caviezel of the Passion of the Christ also seems to follow the same course.
he tried to be an action star and that was the last we heard from him....i get the feeling he just does what he wants, so good for him.
"beats by Adrien Brody" -- something I never thought I'd hear.
The first time I saw him, I was immediatly struck by his beautiful voice! I can't get enough of it. Love, love, seeing him on film no matter what the film is about or it's rating.
Thanks. You’ve given me a list of movies I want to watch. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
I only saw this man on “Detachment” and it was amazing I loved it.
My fav movie with him
I think he is an amazing, underrated actor.
Omggggg....JoBlo, Thannnnnkkkk Youuuuu😃You narrated the Hell🔥outta this Adrian Brody short film doc/WTF Happened!!!!! Did you mention “The Jacket?” That was a pretty good movie he did
Jasmin G.W. Oh yeah he did... my bad
Snake Plissken Great movie
Well, I’m gonna have to use the “go ahead, make me gay” line for something.
Dick to cock goodness.
shaft on shaft hard stiff throbbing meat pops.
that was funny! Unexpected, but funny!
Restaurant was the first film I had seen him in.Fell in love!
I liked Bullet Head too lol it was very weird like you said but I liked it! Love the ending. I also really loved The Jacket, The Experiment, The Pianist and the recent films as well!!
I used to have a crush on him lol..he looks like my ex fiancé except my ex has deep blue eyes..anyways he’s such an amazing actor!
He was great in Houdini Series
Love the way you review!! Great job!
If I had a business I'd sponsor this channel. Really enjoying your content :D
Haven't seen 80% of those movies.
you're missing out
I also like Predators. It was a different take on the material. I especially liked Topher Grace's character twist. He might be worth a WTF.
Yes I agree
predators is pretty good
Yes, please. We need a 'WTF happened to Topher Grace'.
Very well done and you made me laugh out loud quite a few times. :) I like the way you are observing reality and yet, always supportive of an actor that you obviously like a lot. (I think he's pretty awesome as well.)
Good job👍 very entertaining, well done young man 😄
I worked on Emperor, one of his in development films. That was 2013, production company scammed everyone and declared bankruptcy. Unfortunatly its never gonna get released.
The one with Tommy Lee Jones?
@@mikehimes7944 No, this movie never got released as I said. was filmed years ago. Financial troubles will probably mean it will never get released.
Was I curious when I read the video title? Yes, whatever happened to Brody?
But am I willing to spent 24 minutes to find out?
Hell no! That question deserves a 5 minute video tops.
I LOVE Adrien. I watched and rewatched all his movies. I love whatever he’s in.
whats the background music he uses when talking about their filmographies?
Any of you seen him in Peaky Blinders he plays the main antagonist for a whole season
I think he’s a painter and made enough movies ($) and decided to go back to painting. Good for him!
I actually really liked the message in detachment, and think its a hidden gem. If you look at it in terms of the ideas, concepts and philosophies it shares, it is quite a good film.
He's a great actor and does what he is passionate about. He picks whatever roles he enjoys. I say let him do what he wants and I'll watch cause I'll always know he will be great in the role. Btw great content, I thought this video would be another cheap clickbaity content. But honestly very well written and engaging video. I'm subscribed now :)
The Jacket was very underrated.
also, missed opportunity to show him in the MC HAMMER Burger King ad lol
The Dragon Blade joke actually cracked me up.
Amazing vid and channel!
He achieved everything at an early age and went for the money later on, it’s ok, even Robert De Niro went for the money.
He didn't go for money - actually learn something before you spout nowt
Alex
Oh shut the fuck up, they all go for the money after they achieve,De Niro,Freeman, Pacino,Cage, everybody goes for the money to secure his future and money comes from shit movies usually.. No effort and easy paycheck.
It is so sad when you see your favorite actors appearing in straight to or nearly straight to dvd films. Everyone needs to make money, but slow down and choose better.
@@wyntersteele1a Well there are only so many good scripts to go around.
