      I am glad to help. If it was myself having to go through wearing dentures I know I'd want someone to explain things to me, so I've always taken the time to explain things to all of my patients. It's your mouth, so the more you know the better. :)

    Thanks for your comment on my video 24paljim. As I stated in the very beginning of my video I practice in Windsor, Ontario. Ontario is a province in Canada and while our country has the second largest land area in the world we have a relatively small population. I wished I lived in Canada near you. This is very good advice (from someone that is one month into wearing a lower plate for the first time). My experience may help others in the same situation. I didn't know anyone that had full dentures, bottom or top. I spent a ton of time looking at the reviews of dentists on the internet since I wanted to go to someone experienced with dentures and not simply a 'family dentist.' I already knew that I would have my bottom 9 teeth (all broke to the gumline) removed from my oral surgeon since I had a reoccurring cyst that I had removed twice before so I was killing two birds with one stone.
    However, my anxiety was so much from spending the time to be sure I got the 'right' dentist that instead of following my plan to get an estimate then leave and decide later, I simply said go-ahead. I just didn't want to spend hours trying to weed out the dentist. What I ended up with is a single lower denture that cost me $2,200.00 (didn't include the cost of pulling teeth) that included only 4 adjustments... and the adjustments had to be all done in the first month. I don't care how good this denture was supposed to be, it's not worth it because I believe your best bet is to plan on having another denture made in a year, anyway. $2,200 is "crazy high" to quote my second dentist. LOL
    It will be too hard to call and find out if your dentist will do what Dr. Parisien will do since they will have their own terms. It doesn't matter if they 'act' like they don't know the concept of 'transitional dentures', because they do, but if that isn't their normal way of fitting dentures, instead they will tell you how they believe it is best. And I believe anyone that has experienced getting dentures, especially recently (since it's so easy for them to forget the details), they will say what he explained here is ideal.
    So my point of posting here is to make your first visit, only a visit. I don't care if you pay $100 for x-rays and consulting, you will be money ahead getting more than one opinion... it's too easy to think, well that is sort of high and this guy is probably as good as the next one, and I'm just ready to get it done. Nope, it is worth paying another dentist $100 and wasting $100 instead of thousands before it is all said and done.

    I'm on day 4 of extractions with immediate dentures. TY for your content; it really helps me understand. I have an issue of the Gums space being too long & I can't close my mouth. I had an adjustment day 2 at post-op, but I still can't close my mouth fully. So I'm going in for another adjustment. I feel like I'm healing quickly. The stiches & loose tissue are already coming out. Since it's immediate denture that mean I'm stuck with the teeth they made right? Part of me feels they are too big. I have a small mouth. Also is major faceal bruising normal?

    My question is a soft Reline the same as a transitional Reline? The place I went to will not do a soft Reline until the 3 month mark..if i hadn't found the Pro Soft home Reline kit I wouldn't be able to wear these dentures..they are too loose. And in my situation do you think there is any harm in doing these "home Relines" myself? They seem to work pretty good as far as giving me a better fit.

    What of someone does go for immediate dentures... could they not later have then replaced with better ones ?
    I'm contemplating going for full dentures but the thing is I live in Iceland and would have them done in Budapest because, well money!
    They say it will take a week to complete the whole thing so that would be immediate dentures. And because I live so far away I can't really go there every few weeks for adjustments. Just want to make sure that I can in fact have permanent good dentures made.

    Hi, I had 25 extractions done 5 days ago, and the top teeth seem to be much easier than the bottom. I had quite a lot of trauma from the bottom, what I mean is stitches and a LOT of swelling only on the bottom. My question is I started yesterday wearing my bottom denture, and noticed that they did not cut a notch for my little flap of skin that goes between my lip and gum, which is causing a sore to form and MUCH PAIN. Tomorrow is Monday and am going to call them to get an adjustment. Is this an easy fix? I sure hope so. My denture place is doing what you called the temp dentures for 6 months, then the permanent set is made. So glad to hear you confirm this is the best way to go. My first soft liner is scheduled for 3 days from now, but I have to go back to work tomorrow, so hoping they can get me in to cut a notch in my lowers.

      ***** Thanks so much for your comment! I went back, they cut a notch for me in my lowers, and so far so good! I got my first soft liner done and it is Wonderful! I have some Sea Bond wafers at home, but since my soft liner was done I don't need them. My goodness, the suction on the top is so good I actually have to rock them to get the seal to break when I take them out. Lowers, of course not like that. but all in all I am having a good experience with this. :)

    • @parisiendentureclinic9617
      @parisiendentureclinic9617  9 лет назад +6

      Nibor I'm glad to hear that things are feeling better after your adjustment and the tissue conditioners(temporary linings) placed! You will always find that a full lower denture will give you more problems in comparison to your full upper denture. It's the unfortunate reality of a full lower denture; They move all the time.
      Put some serious thought into having implants placed in your lower jaw to help retain your denture. It is always a "sticker shock" to most people, however, I've never had anyone say that they've regretted it. In fact, most people say that they would spend the money again because it makes such a HUGE difference.
      Good luck with your new teeth. :)

      Only having a couple of teeth pulled at a time is not risky in comparison to having all of your teeth pulled at once. You can always ask your dentist why they are going about the extractions in this manner. Best of luck.

    What are your thoughts on 2 Denture implants being installed just after extraction on bottom teeth? Should I wait until mouth heals first or go ahead and have it installed at the same time as extraction?

    • @parisiendentureclinic9617
      @parisiendentureclinic9617  9 лет назад +3

      If the surgeon is able to place the implants at the same time as the extractions it will save you having to be frozen again and undergo another surgery. This all depends, however, if there is sufficient quantity and quality of bone to place the implants at the time of the extractions. It's a decision the surgeon would make at the time of extractions. As well, some surgeons are comfortable placing implants at the time of extraction, some are not. Be sure to ask your dentist or oral surgeon if they think implants can be placed at the time of extraction. And as I mentioned, the decision may ultimately come at the time of extraction. X-rays give us a two dimensional picture. By looking at the x-ray ahead of time a surgeon may tell you that it appears that there is enough bone to place the implants at the time of extraction. When the procedure starts there may be an adequate height of bone(which is what we can see in a x-ray), however, there may not be enough width of bone for the implant(we can't tell how wide bone is in a x-ray).

    • @MsDaswoman
      @MsDaswoman 9 лет назад +1

      Barry Parisien DD Thanks for the info, dentist thought it was very possible, but now we know it is up to the surgeon if it can be done or not. I was curious if I am making it to rough on myself pain wise, on the healing process. I believe the screw would be under the gum line until healed into bone, I am worried about the temporary denture floating on top, I am presuming that they would scrape that part of denture out so that it would not apply any pressure on screw. Hmm some more questions to ask.

    • @parisiendentureclinic9617
      @parisiendentureclinic9617  9 лет назад +4

      MsDaswoman From the vast majority of my patients, in regards to pain, the placement of a implant is typically less painful in comparison to extracting a tooth.
      As you mentioned the implant may be "under the gum line" after its placement, this is commonly done. It is also common to have a healing abutment placed on the implant and in this case you would see a metal post sticking up out of the tissue. Which way is performed depends on the surgeons preference and other factors during the placement of the implant. The drawback to having the implant "under the gum line" is that you have to go through a secondary surgery to uncover the implants.
      You had mentioned the denture "floating on top" of the tissue after the implants have been placed. This is, unfortunately, the hard part when having implants that cannot be immediately loaded(having your teeth secured to them at the same appointment). If it is a full lower denture you are referring to the denture will definitely be able to move around on top of the tissue, as most full lower dentures do. This in turn leads to the denture rubbing and pressing on the tissue which has just undergone surgery to it which ultimately leads to pain. While different people have different pain thresholds it is reasonable to expect a certain amount of discomfort for typically 2-3 weeks after the implants have been placed. Yes, the denture is adjusted in the areas where the implants were placed to help alleviate pressure on the implant.
      Regardless of any amount of discomfort you may experience after the placement of your implants you will surely find that it was well worth your while once you have your new denture secured to the implants. There is absolutely no comparison to a denture with and without implants. You will love it!

      Hi just had upper& lowers put in 18 days ago& you are right it really takes getting used to.the tops stay put well but take up lot of space in roof of mouth,have trouble with some words,& pollygrip tends to have a zinc taste all day,but because the bottoms tend to come loose when chewing is neccesary.will take about 3 months for shrinkage to settle to more manageable state been told,then 2 years for final state.will need refits so be sure to get them included,I got 90 day free refits,but sence stitches just came out will wait 2 more weeks to refit.liquid polygrips last about 6 to 8 hours depending on meals you eat,but hardly any pain ( maybe 2-3) in first 3 days.tops are trouble free,but bottoms work loose when chewing&expect a week on liquid foods,then learn to chew,find using both sides of mouth at same time works if bottoms are easy to come loose.

    • @parisiendentureclinic9617
      @parisiendentureclinic9617  9 лет назад +1

      Natalie Rogers Both immediate and transitional dentures are made before your natural teeth are extracted. You could always ask your Denturist or Dentist if you could examine the wax set-up of the teeth before they are finished so you could get a idea on how they would look. You can't actually try the dentures in though. Since you would still have your natural teeth at this point the dentures would not fit over top of your teeth. It would be very much like trying to try on a pair of shoes over your shoes... it just wouldn't work.

Hope this helps u out from a fellow full denture wearer! 😉😉😉

    Hello!
    My name is Jordan and I am having some trouble and having trouble figuring out where to turn.
    I had the remainder of my teeth (24 teeth) extracted on January 22nd.
    I had immediate dentures the same day. They were uncomfortable and bulky from the beginning. But I was told they would not be perfect, especially at first since they are made big to accommodate for swelling. So I let it go for awhile. The first week the lower denture started getting really uncomfortable, causing excruciating sore spots and was making my bottom lip protrude to the point of people started actually saying I looked like I had a hockey puck in my mouth. I called and went back in, they made extremely small adjustments which did nothing to help (and I told them that) they said they didn't want to do to much adjusting as I was still a little swollen. So I let it go. Over the weekend it started protruding even further and become more painful. So now, a total of 3 adjustments and a soft reline later. The lower is not any better and now the upper doesn't fit.
    I guess what I'm getting at, have you ever seen any issues like this? Have you been ever heard any issues like this? What did you do or what have you heard that's been done? My "dentist" is of no help.
    I am totally discouraged and depressed. I am to the point that I feel worse about my mouth than I ever did before and my teeth were BAD.
    Any and all information you can share would be extremely appreciated!

    • @jorleighrey8555
      @jorleighrey8555 8 лет назад +1

      Just to add on. The bottom has not fit from day one.
      I just kind of let it go for the first few days because I was told to expec them not to fit. But even after having adjustments and soft reline it is not any better. I have had to beg my dentist to do the adjustments he has done thus far. I go back tomorrow for the last chance. If they don't start talking me seriously and taking concerns seriously then I'm done and asking for my money back. I feel dismissed and made to feel stupid for my concerns.

      +JorLeigh Rey Hello Jordan. I would suggest visiting another Dentist or Denturist for a second opinion. They will be able to tell you what can and can't be done for your case. Immediate dentures can sometimes be quite difficult to fabricate and wear for a individual in the beginning. I wish you the best of luck.

      +Barry Parisien DD thank you for your reply! I actually went back in to my dentist's office this past Thursday and unfortunately had to get pretty stearn with them. They finally allowed me to talk to with the technician that makes them and when he looked at them and saw my mouth with the lower plate in he as just appalled. His exact words were "no no no no.. Just no! It doesn't fit, at all! We need to remake that bottom plate. There is no fixing it"
      So we will see how the remake goes!

    I can tell you some real Horror stories about people I know who got jerked around by the dentist who made their dentures. Mine don't fit and are way to big and they refus3ed to fix them unless I paid hundreds to have them redone after spending $4000 on them and I can't wear after having them made. They sit in my top drawer; and I spent $6000+ on my son's TOP PLATE ONLY and they still charged him $300 to do a reline after 6 months because his gums shrank. You get NO slack from dentist around here. It's a BIG racket to make as much as they can here

    I guess driving Ottawa-Windsor is a no-no for dentures, but thanks for the very informative video. I have a lot of bad and broken teeth and recently also in the very visible part of my mouth, but am too embarrassed even to go to the local dentist. I finally made the decision to have this done though, as losing the ability to be able to laugh out loud and embarrassing my self is now weighing heavier than having it delay it being fixed. I will probably be financially lobotomized as I only have partial coverage, but so be it. Final question, if you still follow up on this page: Can I initially go for dentures, but when the financial climate in my wallet changes, replace them with dentures that are supported by implants?

    We have gotten completely different advice from two dentists about how to approach dentures for a 90 year-old: one recommends full mouth extraction (10 on top, 10 on bottom) all at once and then permanent dentures three months later; the other recommends extracting upper teeth & putting in an immediate denture, then later doing same with the bottom teeth/Immediate denture, and getting permanent dentures later. Can you address when each approach is appropriate/inappropriate? Thank you.

      carol g yes you have 2 sets. Put the transitional set in a freezer bag with a little water. Push out most of the air. Seal up the bag and put your first set in the freezer. They will not mildew/mold or dry out and distort that way. That way if you should loose your second set or that second set is destroyed you have a little insurance in the freezer
      Don’t hurry the thaw if you have to use that freezer set. Ya dont want to distort the freezer set.
