I was at this show and it was a totally surreal experience. Matt asked my friends and I where was a good spot to eat on South Street so we took him to a Mexican place and had burritos together. If only I had a time machine I’d certainly go back to this day over and over.
Every Hum concert I went to was a surreal experience. Their sound was amazing live. One of the few bands I've ever heard live that seemed like an extension of their albums rather than a washed-down version of the EP.

Back in the day, you could buy bootleg VHS copies of live shows by the best bands around. These shows were usually obtained by serious fans/collectors who purchased them from record trade shows. Now a days you just come here to youtube. My how music distribution has changed!
The amount of money I'd give to see HUM at TLA now that I'm old enough to truly appreciate this band is more than I can afford. But I would do it in a fucking heartbeat.
Just finished watching the whole thing soup-to-nuts. Amazing concert. The ending was so climactic. I literally couldn't take my eyes (or ears) away. Hats off to Patrick for having the foresight to record this thing 25 years ago! And to Hum for being amazing.
If you go to the Hum reditt page there was a link in there to an extensive live bootleg archive- IYATB is in there a few times- there’s also an older video of a full show on RUclips where they play it as well- they’re playing in a pretty small venue
They were probably a year or two too late to the national scene, as far as timing. They had a good radio hit from You'd Prefer An Astronaut around '95. By the time the second album dropped, in early '98, the alternative explosion (not just grunge) of that decade was already on its way out. That, and they might have been just a bit too quirky for mainstream taste.
@@christophermarx3350 Additionally, I don't think most of their stuff is "poppy" enough to have caught on in the mainstream. In this set for example, more than half the songs are over 5 minutes long.
@@christophermarx3350 Agreed. What hits mainstream has to be a bit dumbed down to be honest. Do you think any of this could be on national television such as American Idol? I'd love to hear it but, 99.9% of average people won't get it.
Like, has there been a proper examination on Tim’s playing? Seriously, for such a young lead player, there’re so many WTF moments… his additions are simply sonic sci-fi. He almost single-handedly gives hum their science fiction sound. Calling it “creative” doesn’t begin to do it justice. I’m just astonished once again.
Thank you for sharing, I had wished I had seen them live around this time when they were touring for those three albums. Watching this was an acceptable substitute for not being there myself.
It's always so weird to see live footage of HUM and they're just wearing jeans and t-shirts. I feel like they should be in spacesuits or some futuristic garb to match the innovation of their music.

But upon listening again i was glad that they chose to not have any crazy transition and riffs. That song is so beautiful and it sounds even more lovely live.
Double dip is so full of despair lyrically and musically and I think that’s what makes it such a great track. It’s astonishingly dreadful and there’s not even a hint of remedy within the song. And to top it al off it just gets absolutely brutal at the end and then it’s over.
Centaur is starting to get active again they’ve played some shows at Matt’s bar “lose cobra” I think Matt’s wanting to push forward with making more new music but Hum is probably over. I know they did reunion shows without Bryan but now that he’s passed they’re most likely not going to tour again.
