I immediately thought of GFG when I saw the title and I've been wanting to get a LCP Max in my hands ever since. He made an interesting comment how the "new" micro 9s were no more easier to conceal for him than a G19...
All of these guns are a great option as they try to strike a balance of max capacity, concealable size, shootability (trigger, sights, grip...), build quality, and reliability.

I've had the Smith Shield and the EZ, the Hellcat Pro, the Ruger LCR+, a Glock 27 as my off-duty when I was LEO. After all of these choices, my favorite by far is the Sig 365. I shoot it better, it carries more comfortably for me and my wife loves hers also. She carries a Glock 17 on duty and is not terribly fond of it.

I carry the Shield Plus and won't carry another gun. I'm only 4'9" tall and weigh 95 lbs and I will be 60 years old in July. I can carry this gun all day, which I do and I'm a house painter (self-employed) and it doesn't bother me at all, even if im working 10 hours a day, and even with my body frame there is no printing and very comfortable. No one knows I'm carrying. That in it self says a lot for me. This gun shoots flat and the recoil is mild compared to other c.c. guns and the grip is perfect for even my baby hands...Lol! Great video...Keep up the good work!

We see what's happening to our brothers and sisters in Europe and it's very saddening. I hope there is an uprising there soon. I'm glad you were able to find something that perfectly fits your needs. The Shield Plus is a heck of a gun and that is what my mom trusts with her life. I use a P365 when I'm not carrying my G19 and absolutely love it. I tried to get my mom one for mother's day to upgrade her EDC. However, the P365 just felt too tiny in her hands (she can fit my large size gloves) and felt snappy compared to her Walther PPS M2. After a day at the range, she decided on the Shield Plus. The grip just filled out her hands better, it felt more shootable to her, and her groupings were much tighter up to 10 yards compared to everything else she tried that was comparable in size. She's not a shooting fanatic like me, but she loved the trigger and had fun shooting the Shield Plus. To make things even better, Cabela's had the optics ready Shield Plus with the night sights for only twenty more than the standard Shield Plus. I'm glad it worked out for my mom and other gun owners out there like you Hegshot

Could not agree more. I carried the Shield 2.0 and it was a serviceable firearm. Accurate, easy to shoot well and fast, but only 8 rounds. So when the Shield Plus shipped, I checked it out at my range and liked it immediately. My go-to carry is now the Shield Plus 3.1" Performance Center. A clear upgrade over the 2.0 version, and that's a real accomplishment. The Performance Ctr version shoots flat, straight, and with virtually no muzzle flip or recoil. It's even easier to shoot well with Subsonic HP rounds with zero malfunctions. I can concentrate on my consistency and speed, and my accuracy and times improved 50%. The RSO's at my range asked what I changed that so clearly improved my shooting, and it was the Plus with Trijicon HD night sights. Hegshot is NOT exaggerating - excellent review. Highly recommended! imho.

I've had many pistols and a drawer full of holsters. Somehow I always go back to my Springfield XD 9 held in an old black leather Cardini IWB holster. Leather is inherently quieter and smoother. The old well worn Cardini holster shows in exact detail the outline of gun. The leather against my side gives excellent retention. I guess that the sweat has soaked it and molded it that way. I know every quirks of that old Springer, the triggers been smithed and polished down to a regular and consistent 5# pull and as many people complain about the grip safety, I have never had a problem with it affecting proformance it the slightest way. I just wouldn't have it any other way. Its is the only interactive safety on the firearm. The grip safety requires me to have a good purchase on the handle and if its in my hand out of doors serious business is afoot. Of course that will never replace the most important safety of all YOUR BRAIN. And regardless of what Alec Baldwin will tell you firearms require a trigger pull. It's the truth folks..A guns needs a trigger puller and you can't pull that trigger if it's not inside the trigger gaurd. So finger off the trigger until you are pointed at the target or whatever you intend to kill or destroy. I've had so much practice with this firearm that I can knock a hair off a tick's butt at killing distance. It may not be the gun of choice for some snobs out there but I trust it with this old worldly vessel (life on earth). I can get away with carrying a 7 inch double stacker because I go 6'8" and 300 pounds. It hides really well on me. In the summer I sometimes carry something smaller and lighter but I do carry the Springfield 10 months out of the year and on cool Summer nights. Always remember folks that EVERY bullet fired has a lawyer attached to it and maybe some mail. My point is if you fire in defense of your life, destroy or kill you will be held up to massive amounts of scrutiny and you better be righteous in your actions. When I was in my 20s and early 30s I carried and stopped carrying because even then I didn't feel like I had the mentality needed for such awesome responsibility. That's what it is a responsibility to enter public with the ability to end someone's life to protect your life and other people's lives from someone intent on doing harm to you and other innocent people.
Know yourself first then worry about guns and holsters. Besides your going to spend a fortune before you are happy with your carry rig. LOL
    Becareful out there people.

I do carry the Plus occasionaly, but the CZ is the gun that helped to cure my need for the next great carry gun, which quest I was on for about 4 years with 30-40 different guns.

I still can't believe any men complain about grip texturing because it's scratchy or aggressive. Ever since I retired from the military, with years passing of not having to torture my hands, they have actually become soft and smooth and still I can't find any reason to complain about any gun's grip texturing affecting any of my fragile sensibilities, because I don't have any... so it makes me wonder what kind of guys complain about something so mundane and insignificant. That aside, this was a great video featuring some of the most popular ultra compact pistols. I was carrying a Glock 19 for a long time, now it's a 2nd Gen P365, and so far I can't find the gun to top it... Reliable, accurate, inexpensive (except for mags), 12 rounds with the extended mag and still undiscernible in conceal carry. I can only improve it by buying the newer Gen with the optic cut out, but I am well without it as well.

All good choices. My favorite carry gun is the HK USP compact 9mm (that’s the reason for the name) but it’s the size of G19 and only holds 13, but I love the da/sa action and shoot it so great, also like carrying a J frame S&w .357mag (360, 640, 649) for a backup. The HK is my carry gun that stopped me in my tracks, I carry it 99% of time, J frame 99% of the time. for the micro 9mm I’ve tried a lot but don’t stick with them very long, from 365, HellCat, p365XL, and the S&W CSX. I like my sig p365 good gun but rarely carry it, I love the CSX but bummed there is no night sights for it yet. I wish HK or beretta could bring us a micro 9mm that is da/sa.

I’ll still take a G26 Gen5 because it takes Glock factory 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 24, 33 round magazines. With an X-grip sleeve, a 15 or 17 round Glock factory magazine in the G26 dominates over the Sig or the M&P, regardless of their magazine configurations. But I even like the G43 and 43x even better. The 43X with factory 10 + 1 capacity is perfect for ccw use, coupled with a spare mag or two in the pocket. Having to reload after firing 11 round….so what! I’m not concerned that the 43x “only” has 10-rnd OEM mags. I’m not chasing down burglary suspects with that gun, so I don’t need more than three mags total on my person with that gun. But I know Glock is proven to be the MOST reliable pistol out there and it’s why Glock is compared against everyone’s “other” brand choice. Sometimes good enough, just is.

However, for anyone else who experienced light primer strikes with theirs (like I did): CHECK YOUR STRIKER FOR HEAVY GREASE! Mine was experiencing an LPS every 100 rounds, which was disconcerting and certainly not something I'd want to carry as my EDC.
I took it apart, and removed the striker from the channel. Lo and behold, it was coated with a gummy cosmoline-esque goo that was so thick it absolutely would impact striker performance.

The perfect carry gun depends on your body type and hand size. I'm 6'2", 220lbs. and wear large in glove sizes. I can easily conceal a glock 19 size gun appendix carry while wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I've found that the sub-compact pistols are simply too small for my hands. I can't get a good grip on the pistol without my pinky hanging off and worse yet, I usually get slide bite on the web of my hand between my thumb and my index finger. It all comes down to what I said before. If you're a smaller person with smaller hands a 15 rnd Glock/M&P/P360 compact may be harder for you to conceal. A sub-compact may work better for you as long as you can get a full grip on it.

My p365 has a 15 plus one set up. It’s so small and accurate. I love it. It’s a 2022 manufactured date so it’s after they got the kinks out of it. I love it it’s smaller than my wife’s Walther 380 and much smaller than my hnk 40 cal usp compact. It’s not as nice as my hnk but it’s still a great gun for the size and ease of carry. My home defense I would use my 40 or long gun but when your out and about and it’s 100 degrees outside a small gun that’s basically invisible. Please carry a gun for your own protection. Just not a high point. Spend at least 300 bucks on a gun and practice using it not just shooting it but clearing it racking it cleaning and learn the functions and limitations stay safe ❤

I carried a Beretta Px4 storm compact for awhile. Then a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm sub compact. Then I got a Sig P365 and carried that. However my carry gun now is a Performance center S&W M&P 9mm shield plus with ported barrel and slide, enhanced trigger, extended mag release, and fiber optic sights. It will be my carry weapon from now on. Everyone I let shoot it wants to get one also. It is such a great pistol I don't ever see myself going with something else. So I totally agree with you on this pistol.

Broke my finger the same day

But I still carry my 1911 EDC

I'm gonna have to agree with this gentleman,,, I have owned all three of the shields - and last year I purchased the Shield Plus Performance Center Model - ported barrel and slide - I then added some really nice Tru-Glo TFX sights - along with the right carry holster - and folks - I just keep back. I love this Shield Plus Performance Center - Talk about the trigger - I can't believe it's a stock trigger... What a great pistol - " S&W Shield Plus Performance Center " ....

For me it was the G26. Aside from how well it shoots for what it is, it is also pretty perfect for me as a 6'3, 210 pound human. I am very used to it and shoot it more than any other gun I own. If it ain't broke, don't fix it type of thing. Everyone has their jam. And putting in the time with it matters more than anything, of course. I'd rather be a great shot with a shitty gun than a shitty shot with great gun.

I was still rocking the original Shield until recently and found a great deal on a Glock 43x. I was eyeballing that Shield plus in 9mm and the Sig XL. That super carry round looks like a clear winner with 16+1 in a slim light carry package. They are all supposed to be optic ready and have night sights standard I hear.

Shield Plus master race checking in. I own or have owned all of the popular carry 9mm p365, hellcat, 43 and 43x. For me the Shield Plus wins hands down. I can't believe how well I shoot it for being a carry gun. In the past range time I usually shoot a few mags with my carry gun to say I did and then move to funner stuff like beretta's but with the shield plus I actually enjoy shooting it and the extra practice has been a game changer for me!

I've tried quite a few and own quite a few. My everyday carry is (and will be until it gets beat---which I honestly can't picture) a Springfield Armory Hellcat. Came with an 11 round, and 13 round...and I eventually bought the 15 round. I can quarter size a group open site at 25 feet all day---and I have 16 in the weapon. I feel safe if crap goes down with some maniac at Arby's.

It’s a great time for concealed carry with many of the manufactures all giving quality purpose built guns for it. I used to carry a CGW CZ P01 in the winter and a Gen 1 Shield in the summer. Then picked up a P365. I’ve enjoyed it so much that I sold my shield and my P01 rarely sees the light of day. I’m sure the shield plus is quality and you can’t go wrong with either.

my most carried is a g26.3 in a P80 wrapper. it's a 'feel in the hand' thing.
i looked at things from a scavenger's point of view. glock mags are everywhere and if it's a 9mm, it'll work for me. adding the +2 baseplates on my mags keeps me in the game a little longer. mag sleeves have their purpose and work just fine for me.

I carry a in the pant holster under my uniform. I like deep concealment, unfortunately as a firefighter EMT we never know what we’ll encounter. Back on point. I carry S&W Performance Center .45 ACP Shield. With 8 rounds of 185 gr Honey Badger I’m hoping it’s the life insurance policy I can count on. The porting on barrel and slide lessons recoil and high vis sights are great most of the time additionally it has that ledge on the back to rack one handed. Yeah I know it’s not a 9 but I’ll make due.

I carry the G 26 and I’m good with it. Those smaller framed guns hurt the swell of my palms. I also have larger Glocks, so I can use the higher capacity Mags all the way up to bater Mags. If SHTF or if there was a zombie apocalypse, I would be good to go with Mag capacity and parts. Glock all the way Bro….😎

Hegshot, great review 👍 so you asked and now I'm answering. My first EDC was a Taurus G2C in a Sneaky Pete Holster and occasionally pocket carry in a Kydex molded holster. Then I switched to a Taurus 856 Ultra Lite 2 inch snubnose .38 +P. Then I fell in love with the Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm, I got a sweet deal and bought a new one, tomorrow is my first time taking it to the range. To be continued.....

I have an original Shield. The trigger wasn’t really a problem but I hate the extended magazine with the butt that slides around. Still it has Never misfired and sits nice and flat . The perfect gun is always the one that I haven’t bought yet.

  • @egmjag

I got the original Shield in .40 and modified it several ways: stippling it, porting it and adding a Crimson Trace light-laser that's very intuitive and instantly goes on. I won't change the trigger because doing so might jeopardize me if I ever do use it in a defense situation. My state frowns on that even though I can do it. I just got another one in the same caliber but this time with Hi Viz sights. My state doesn't allow the newer versions or even the 2.0 version but my modified Shield is perfect for my needs. I never conceal carried but will soon do that.

The S&W Shield Plus 30SC (Super Carry) is awesome.
9mm type balistics and with the flush fit mag you get 13+1. With the extended mag its 16+1. Its very comparable in size to the Sig p365.

I've been carrying the same gun EDC for 3 years now and can't find one I like more. It is the highly underrated FNH FNS9C. 12+1 about the size of the G26, much better ergonomics, better trigger and with the finger extender on the 12 round mag it shoots almost like a full size gun. I can carry it all day comfortably as a 145 lb, 5'8" skinny dude and it does not print appendix on my 30" waist even in a T-shirt.
