This format, especially with Jinx showing signs as he is and your candid conversation while filming it is far more educational than you probably realize. You're nervousness on display, especially for a bird that size is confidence boosting for others who need to see this is universal and to watch two people who are good at what they do and how they handle it is what everyone needs to see.
That said, I find myself more nervous around my conure than a larger bird... weird, right? :)

Also, those feathers when he walked closer.... I hope people are paying attention to who want to know how to identify that sign to avoid being bitten. Jinx is very clear he doesn't want him there and I love you guys showing this while hormonal. So many birds are given up because people get confused when a bird becomes hormonal. I don't know why, but i seriously loved this video more than normal. Thanks to the three of you!

The reason we all can relate to you two so well, is your ability to keep it real! Sometimes as a parrot owner you sit back and think … I may not be doing this right, I don’t think my bird likes me, I’m not sure what to do next, if he gets mad and lunges for me at times it’s because I don’t know what I’m doing…and a million more. So having mentors that keep it real and then share your knowledge is needed and valued. So thank you from our flock to yours. We appreciate all you do!!!!

I am so glad I "stumbled" upon this channel. I dont own birds & dont have any intentions of ever owning a bird either. But you 2 (and your precious lil Capri) have me so excited to see what video you all post next (while enjoying older ones in between since I'm new here). You all seem so genuine & down to Earth. When I saw how much his feathers puffed up, I knew Jinx wasn't in the mood.
Thats my Catalina Macaw 10-20 minutes into any interaction these days. We can be doing a million different activities then all the sudden she fluffs up, opens her mouth, and goes to town on my fingers, and arms. I am constantly covered in bruises and scabs. I’m debating rehoming her to a sanctuary but I have two behaviorists that I am starting to work with today so hopefully a couple months from now this will be a bad dream.

You made my day! I have been working with my ultra hormonal female blue and gold macaw and now feel better knowing you two deal with some of the behaviors Sasha exhibits. You inspire me to continue my patience and work with her. When she misbehaves and screams I ignore her which seems to have switched on something in her which triggers her to do tricks and talk to get positive feedback and praise from me. I am your biggest fan!!!!
Great to see Jinx, feels like it's been awhile. Must say I was a bit worried for both you and Dave, but thankfully you were able to navigate around the hormones,lol.

This was a good video to open up today for everyone. Thank you. It was nice to see and show everyone that it doesn't matter how long you have had your bird you still have to respect their body language! That was a good lesson.
This video is so great for me to see. My partner is bonded with their AG and I've struggled for years to get her to accept me. I'm not saying I'm happy Dave & Jinx don't always see eye to eye but to see an experienced bird owner & trainer have a bird that just sometimes hates them helps me understand my own relationship with our bird. I can take this as just a sign that sometimes (maybe even most of the time) my partners bird just might not light me, treats or not.

Thank you both-I you picked up a lot to think about on this one- my son who is the primary trainer for our Conure. He favors me out of the family and has been having issues with him lately. He likes to fly on my sons shoulder and just bite him in the neck, He flies over friendly-like and then just nips on the neck which is obviously a problem. I’m thinking that maybe I’m doing something that’s triggering a response that’s unwanted so I have to think about that. Thanks you gave me a lot of tips

My B & G hates on my husband all the time. He will lunge at him just for walking by. The funny thing is when we adopted him he adored my husband until we brought him home. Then he became my bird. Really wish I could get him to be friends with my husband. He is 38 years old and has had 8 other homes. We will be keeping him forever.
I really hope that I can keep my Catalina Amelia. I just hired two behaviorists to help me through her biting issues. I have only had her 4 months but I have so many scars on my hands and am always covered in bruises and bites:

Haven't watched in a while, so glad I saw this though because my GCC actually does the same thing with his foot and will also get hormonal! Might be harder to try a some sort of "handshake" with him being that his foot is much much smaller than that of Jinx's but maybe I can try it with my finger to change it to a positive thing and not a hormonal thing. I tend to watch them without sound because of this. It has the added bonus you see more bird-behaviour that way: you are not distracted by the human telling unrelated (yet interesting) things.
I always skip their bloody noisy intro (using the forward buttons) it is 10 sec, so 2 taps on the -> key gets me in the 'safe-zone' and ready to enjoy the vid.

I just subscribed! I've had parrots in the past and have a pigeon now! Have you considered getting/rescuing a pigeon? They are our oldest domesticated animal and are super smart and sweet!
I'd bet ANYTHING that the days Dave and Jinx get along are when Jaime's not around...nothing against Jaime, Blue throated's just seem more capable of perceiving humans as mates no matter how many precautions you take.

Is there a certain kind of oil or somethin u can use safely on birds beaks to keep them from drying out? Or is it really not that big of a deal? Would be good to know for when I eventually get a macaw someday

My GCC also does baby wing flaps a lot. He’s 11. What does it generally mean? Or is it just a habit they have?
Jamie calls them baby-wing-flaps, actually they are used (imho) to convey annoyance/ not feeling calm about something.
My birds (GAG and B&G macaw) always use them to let me know something is going on they do not approve off. (After they have been telling me with facial feathers raising and lowering and significant looks first of course. Flapping wings is like audible swearing level of annoyance.)
It one of their super-clear-over-the-top-even-the-stupid-human-cannot-miss-it signals. (I have bad eyesight, so I miss a lot of their more subtle signs.)

I don’t know how to do proper timestamps on here, so I’m not sure if this is going to work properly, but at 2:35, There’s a picture on screen of Jinx on Dave’s hand, and it looks as if he’s about to punch him with his left hand! LOL. Obviously that’s not the case, but just thought I’d point it out :-)

It can be year round with these two, but hormones don't help the situation either.

Not even a shelled brazil nut from Dave his human father would tempt Jinxy to be nice and not be jealous.
Yet Jinxy would let his human father Dave treat him if there was an emergency and Jinxy needed first aid.
I’ve only had female macaws, I had a male cherry head conure for 34 years and a mini macaw (severe macaw) who was also a female. Have you noted differences in nuanced behavior in hens?
