I think some people are misinterpreting Saint and claiming he deliberately cut the interview to support his point. Reading some of his comments, he acknowledges what Eren says later in the interview about sleeping under the tree and how that’s not actually enough, but considering the interview only dropped today I’m sure he wanted to get a quick video out about the one specific issue he’s clearly passionate about if you’ve seen any of his debates. Specifically, he was clearly feeling catharsis about the whole “mental freedom” debate that people like Invaderzz and other similar people have used to make the really stupid argument that Eren would have done the Rumbling even if the outside world was free from any prejudice towards Eldians. Eren’s words later on don’t really contradict Saint’s point. Eren says that sleeping under a tree wouldn’t be enough for him and says that there was a part within him that desired to fight for the “sight”, but why would he need to do that in a world that didn’t want to kill all Eldians? He wouldn’t need to fight for freedom if the outside world was completely peaceful. You need a freedom to fight for in the first place for that desire he has to exist at all, and the literal man eating monsters and as we see later on, the entire world, are the things threatening the lives of him and everyone he cares about. As he says, his idea of freedom is living without threat. Why then would he perform the Rumbling if everyone outside was cool with the Eldians? There would be no freedom to fight for if that was the case, he wouldn’t need to fight to see the sights in Armin’s book because there would be nothing threatening his ability to live his life the way he wanted. That’s what Saint was trying to get across I think

You didn't have to cut that part just because it clowned and debunked your whole argument.
So many people assume that freedom is being able to do whatever you want whenever you want with no consequences, that is not freedom that’s called omnipotence. Imo true freedom is responsibility and the ability to live without artificial constraints . Case in point: wild animals. They have the freedom to live how they please, but they are responsible for themselves and are subject to the laws of nature, which is perfectly fine.

Eh I don’t know if this debunks Ed’s man that part you cut out is also part of his idea of freedom as well. I don’t think you can just ignore that. The interviewer didn’t ask another question after the freedom question so his answer includes the whole part imo
he explained that the nap was not enough but that has nothing to do with what he considers freedom to be. they are totally separate, which is what i have been saying for 2 years.
As much as I hate the ending, the cycle of hatred is part of human nature, there will never be peace but we always have the freedom to induce it. Thats what I liked about it but still, I dont see any sense with what eren did, to me it seems very childish and somewhat loses the very plot set on stone in the beginning of the story.
Odd. I think this interview confirms nothing to be honest. No trying to rain on anyones parade. It seems like ending defenders were right about his vision of freedom though, its as simple as wanting to live unrestrained, which is why he wants his loved ones to live long happy lives. The reason why he fights is also very obvious. I feel like the writers played it safe with the interview. that's just my thoughts though. We didn't need this interview.
EDIT: I saw the entire interview, and feel slightly misled by this video. The interview actually very much aligns with what a lot of ending defenders actually said, which is a shame, but that's the truth. they say that eren believes that freedom is the world in armin's book. oceans, sand dunes, basically a world without people. in short, they say eren considers freedom to be killing everyone, cause he's disappointed that people exist in his dream of an empty world, and so he has a flawed perception of freedom. the source material never supported this, and this interview just shut it down entirely.
@@saintitchiefbro that's what they're saying? That is the dumbest fucking shit I've ever heard. That makes him sound like an absolute fucking psychopath
Firstly, I want to talk about a portion of the line that no one seems to talk about, which is "When I learned that humanity lived beyond the walls". The key word here is "When". WHEN exactly did Eren learn that humanity lived outside the walls? When did his perception, that the people inside the wall were the last remenants of humanity, shatter? The answer is when Eren read Grisha's note on the back of the photograph, which says that humanity hasn't perished. The note didn't say anything about Eldia/Marley, or about oppression, or how that there are good/bad people outside the walls. The note simply says that humans exist outside the walls. And Eren learned this in the BASEMENT, NOT in his prison cell where he accessed Grisha's memories (or read the 3 books Grisha left behind), NOT at the sea where he was unsatisfied with the sight, and NOT in Marley where he realised that good/bad people exist. Next, if we looked at the context of the scene, Eren was confessing to Ramzi alone while crying. Eren crying means that he is expressing his true feelings and thoughts. Because Ramzi cannot understand the Eldian language, Eren can freely express his true thoughts without reprimandation. And when saying your true thoughts, YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING CRYPTIC. You say your true thoughts as you mean it. So when Eren says "When I learned that humanity lived beyond then walls, I was so disappointed", I think he was saying it as he literally means it. That he was simply disappointed because other people exist outside the walls. That these people had the AUDACTIY to exist in the first place. That these people ruined his fantasy of an empty landscape beyond the walls where NO HUMANS exist and lands yet to be explored. Eren was so disappointed that he decided to trample the outside world to recreate the fantasy that he imagined as a child. The fantasy based on what Eren saw in Armin's book of the outside world. So even if the outside world was not hostile towards Paradis, Eren would have still destroyed it. Of course, Eren did not enjoy killing millions people outside the walls, after all wasn't that why he cried in front of Ramzi? But unlike Kenny or Erwin, Eren refused to let go off his idyllic fantasy. Now if all of that sounds childish and petty, that is because IT IS. It was why Eren was depicted as a literal CHILD in chapter 131 When child Eren said "Freedom", he was depicted to be above the clouds where he cannot see the destruction below him. The destruction that Eren himself was causing. He only sees the vast, never-ending land to freely roam around. I think that's the "freedom" Eren wants. The "freedom" to do anything without facing the consequences, a child's view of "freedom"
yeah too bad this interview literally contradicts this completely, as well as everything else with the story. Eren learned it from Grisha’s books but what did he learn simultaneously? That even outside the walls, the world was still cruel. It’s way more nuanced than just “there were people there”.

Both for him cause the VA and music is on point and his character because of what's going to happen to it. Finally something (even more) solid that I can source when people are confused about his motives. I also noticed not once did he say "Oh... uh... yeah, I just wanted to see the ocean I already saw who-knows-how-many times and other places I was capable of seeing if I wanted to because of Armin's book he showed me that one time even though I forgot all about that before any of what I just mentioned happened anyways."
@@saintitchiefbro that's what they're saying? That is the dumbest fucking shit I've ever heard. That makes him sound like an absolute fucking psychopath
WHAT HAPPENED TO TODAYS STREAM SAINT
Eren is on team Palestine.
Firstly, I want to talk about a portion of the line that no one seems to talk about, which is
"When I learned that humanity lived beyond the walls".

That doesn't change the point the slightest.
@@azmaweppaare u braindead? It literally does,Saint is implying that he was content with what he had,but the later dialogue literally says he wanted to see those sights which he sought since his childhood so he would fight for it
@@Sanguinnius how does any of this counter what he considers freedom to be..? i'll wait.
@@shezyam460 the sights he saw in armin's book and those he recalls in ch131, "anyone who saw those sights would be the freest person of them all"
YES! Thank you! I can't wait to see the whole translated thing even though I'm gonna feel bad for Eren the entire time.
