That's interesting Taylor, in regards to "original content" - I can say from a "fan's" perspective, I often enjoy seeing your specific take on those popular videos... it's your unique perspective and experience that makes it interesting, different, and enjoyable. =)

I GET it. I'm making two videos a week and I came into YouTubing with experience in editing. But the whole process from outlining/scripting to filming to editing to posting can take me 8 hours for a video. I had no idea how much work this would be. Great job with the videos. I am yet another sub that came from Graham's channel and I'm really enjoying yours. You have many quirky things you add which I appreciate. Like the cazoos per mongoose in your other video. That's my kind of humor and I enjoy throwing those kinds of things into my videos to keep the viewers on their toes. Keep up the hard work! The time you put into editing shows.

All of it! I agree with everything. Thinking of video ideas is a never ending struggle and editing is a whole other struggle (especially if it's alot of talking but you want viewers to stay engaged). But when you put something together on your own and it brings people value or joy, it's a great feeling ❤️
RUclips / Reseller here as well and I really enjoyed your video. I feel like you're spot on with all of these. I didn't realize how long editing takes to make a video look "good", and I feel like I'm always learning and wanting to make videos better. Lot's of great thoughts for smaller YT creators or people thinking about starting a channel. I think some people don't take into account how much work goes into making videos. Unfortunately this causes some people to just keep spinning their wheels making content but not making any traction.
My favorite thing ever is how you’re not afraid to just be yourself for a RUclips video, I would feel so insecure! It takes courage, you should be proud of yourself 👏🏻 do you ever feel insecure about yourself when editing?

I just found your channel and I really love your videos. I really do think everything has been done on RUclips already and you can ride out what has already been done by putting your own twist on it. Also people will pick out any small words out with what you say and react with their own personal experience.
I can imagine it takes a lot of time to come up with the small extras and edit them in. But I think it really contributes to the level of enjoyment watching the video. I never get bored watching your videos and I regularly chuckle.
Yea great video! To add something on the first point, I think the "steal and twist" method is really the best way for growth, like you mentioned every idea has probably already been done. There really is no unique ideas in today's age with so much content. Even if you did have a completely "unique idea" it probably wouldn't gain a lot of traction with a small audience because you're relying on search and recommendations for views. Nobody will get recommended a video that's completely different than what everyone has already watched, and nobody will search a video that hasn't been done (because it hasn't been done haha). Maybe these "unique ideas" are better with a core audience that will already see your videos, but idk. Anyway, yea like you said I believe the "yoink and twist" or "steal from two and combine to one" idea are probably best for early growth. I appreciate the content Taylor!

Wow that’s exactly how I am with my channel. I made a long list of ideas and looked at them like all I have to do is make each of these ideas I’ll have plenty of videos. I maybe have done a few of those and sometimes I don’t have an idea until it randomly pops in my head.

Yep, yep, and yep lol. Very relatable Taylor. I think the hardest part for me is trying to complete a video when your not super excited about it. I'm not great with consistency and it is so important for RUclips. Plus the time in the editing chair can be daunting. I know how beneficial it is to create well edited videos but I also sometimes envy those that can just film and post. P.S. I had an iced coffee from Chik-fil-a yesterday and it made me think of you. It was Vanilla (not Mocha this time) and it definitely hit the spot. So freakin good.
AHH I couldn’t agree more. The worst feeling is when I feel meh about a video I just filmed 😩 it’s really hard to push through at that point. Totally agree haha sometimes once I finish the rough cut I think “what if I just posted this...” 😂 but I can’t. And omg that makes me so happy to hear :’) the vanilla is indeed good. Great topic! I`m surprised how few viewers end up subscribing, but I heard that`s due to the algorithm being so good now that people get their preferred content suggested anyway.
Great video! Some of them kind of surprised me. Would you ever make a video like what you spend in a week ? Just an idea I thought seeing other RUclipsrs do that. I always liked those videos.
I was most surprised at how much work goes into the title and thumbnail of the video because if that isn't good then know one will no how good your content is.
Okay first thing absolutely love how you edited for the like button section. Thats brilliant. I did something similar to your number 3. I wrote down a bunch of ideas and even had rough dates to have them done by (no 50 though that's insane props to you). I didn't however foresee new things that would pop up and my need to want to cover those. My list is still there and I still add to it but its more of a rough guideline just in case. As always love your videos, you do a great job with them.

I would have to agree with all of these Taylor! I don't know that 150 subscribers qualify me as a "RUclipsr" but after 26 videos, almost all of these points ring true. I am constantly surprised at BOTH the kindness of people as well as some of the rude ones. My favorite recent comment on one of my videos was "You are so annoying!". I actually laughed out loud because...I can be a wee bit annoying. I think it's all in how you take the comments. Oh and yes...the editing process is INSANE. I also decide on my videos about a day or so beforehand. I thought I was the only one! Thanks for posting.

Totally agree with the titling Taylor. I fell down that rabbit hole of trying to get ranked for five things all in one title. Sometimes it’s good others not. I think the advice of “some videos aim for x and others for y” is good! A little variety never hurts! But ya I never expected to have to put almost as much though in my titles and thumbnails as the videos I make sometimes! 😬
All these points resonated with me as I too had started my channel around the same time as you did. Now that I found your channel I am binge watching your videos. Both for content and to learn how I can improve on my own video making skills. In my another comment I had asked what editing software you use. Even I also use final cut pro. But still, it will be very helpful if you can answer some more questions. 1. What camera do you use? I ask because I like the video quality. 2. How do you record your sound?
I like how you are being yourself and trying not to do too much to become a successful RUclipsr. Keep up with the good work. So I was thinking…. because now your channel is pretty big, does any of your clients notice that you are a RUclipsr? If so, what’s their reaction? I was at Deloitte almost 15 years ago so I can kind of relate to your work experience.

Have enjoyed all your videos Taylor however this one might be the best. Why? Sense of humor and your facial expressions. The eyes are mesmerising! How did you get yourself to sneeze on cue? Never seen that before and really effective haha! And the "how dare you" comment, well I'm still laughing. You are a genuine talent in front of the camera. I guess the best way to look at the workload aspect is if it was easy everybody would be doing it. Anyway super entertaining, you really are that good.

i think your asides are great. they make the difference between a vid that is so-so and one that is worth watching and that can be actually enjoyed, rather than one that is, "ok, there's 7 minutes of my life i can never get back." don't worry too much about hurting someone's feelings, they're going to feel that way no matter what. being too risk averse invariably leads to banality. as long as you're cool with youtube rules, it's all good. fortune favors the bold.

Haha lol yess I agree with all of these! I started posting actively on the tube last year and had sooo many videos plannes but I keep changing my mind, my interests (and my ''niche'' tbh) all the time there's no way I could stick to the list. Also I spend so much time searching for good background music and cool sound effects... those small adjustments do make the video better but definitely take up a lot of time. Especially since I'm not a native English speaker who makes videos in English so there's a lot of ''uuh hmm is this the way you pronounce it'' 😂✌🏼

I spend probably too long looking for the sound effects and music, but it definitely makes for more interesting videos. Yes, I can totally relate to the editing process. In my first video, I only took out the uh's and the ahs and stuff like that. Nothing really extra. Now I've downloaded Adobe premiere pro and want to learn that. So I can make better quality videos. And that's also the benefit when you're just starting out, right? Nobody sees those first videos in general.
Great points, I need to challenge myself to create a channel and start posting content relative to my industry. I post vids on LinkedIn quite a bit, but this would make me step up my game considerably. Thanks for the great vid!

Agreed that editing takes A HEAP of time, its a big commitment to keep snipping video clips 😅! I like that you really put the effort in with the image pop ups and effects, they're clever haha! SOOO long!! Ahaha and aw thank you so much. Yep I've only created youtube videos while not working/having no school (aka the last 5 months) so I can't imagine doing this after a long day of work. We'll see how it goes- will definitely have to find a way to be more efficient 😊
As a new youtuber, this is so freaking relatable. Definitely hard to come up with ideas. Being careful w/ word choices. And dear GOD does editing take long. It takes me about 6-8hrs to edit each video. How long does yours take, Taylor?
Lolll I'm glad you think so 😂 RIGHT lol 6-8 is a lot!! Similar range for me-- Each one probably takes 8 hours or so to edit on average, some of them longer (I probably spent 30 hours editing my Antarctica video because of all the overlays) 😅

Your videos are great. You're eloquent, beautiful and it's obvious that you put a lot of time into your videos. How do you deal with the trolls? Do you delete their comments, block them or ignore them?
I'm thinking I would eventually run out of content to put out, but as long as I really put effort to be outside the box, it might work out. The bad part is, I need to be bumped by the RUclips algorithm so that might effect the type of content I make.
I haven't jumped into the RUclips space but I edited a few, simple videos for some Instagram posts for work and realized, it's not easy. All it did was make work want more faster 😑
I like to premake more content then I'll post for those days where I'm in the dump (I don't make RUclips videos yet, I'm still learning to edit, just tiktok for me)

Wow that’s exactly how I am with my channel. I made a long list of ideas and looked at them like all I have to do is make each of these ideas I’ll have plenty of videos. I maybe have done a few of those and sometimes I don’t have an idea until it randomly pops in my head.

Yep, yep, and yep lol. Very relatable Taylor. I think the hardest part for me is trying to complete a video when your not super excited about it. I'm not great with consistency and it is so important for RUclips. Plus the time in the editing chair can be daunting. I know how beneficial it is to create well edited videos but I also sometimes envy those that can just film and post.
P.S. I had an iced coffee from Chik-fil-a yesterday and it made me think of you. It was Vanilla (not Mocha this time) and it definitely hit the spot. So freakin good.
AHH I couldn’t agree more. The worst feeling is when I feel meh about a video I just filmed 😩 it’s really hard to push through at that point. Totally agree haha sometimes once I finish the rough cut I think “what if I just posted this...” 😂 but I can’t. And omg that makes me so happy to hear :’) the vanilla is indeed good. I totally agree with these! Especially the second cut after the rough cut in the editing. Oh my, it takes ages! Turns out I'm not big enough to have too many negative comments yet but I'm ready when they do come 😎

Okay first thing absolutely love how you edited for the like button section. Thats brilliant. I did something similar to your number 3. I wrote down a bunch of ideas and even had rough dates to have them done by (no 50 though that's insane props to you). I didn't however foresee new things that would pop up and my need to want to cover those. My list is still there and I still add to it but its more of a rough guideline just in case.
As always love your videos, you do a great job with them.

I would have to agree with all of these Taylor! I don't know that 150 subscribers qualify me as a "RUclipsr" but after 26 videos, almost all of these points ring true. I am constantly surprised at BOTH the kindness of people as well as some of the rude ones. My favorite recent comment on one of my videos was "You are so annoying!". I actually laughed out loud because...I can be a wee bit annoying. I think it's all in how you take the comments. Oh and yes...the editing process is INSANE. I also decide on my videos about a day or so beforehand. I thought I was the only one! Thanks for posting.

Totally agree with the titling Taylor. I fell down that rabbit hole of trying to get ranked for five things all in one title. Sometimes it’s good others not. I think the advice of “some videos aim for x and others for y” is good! A little variety never hurts! But ya I never expected to have to put almost as much though in my titles and thumbnails as the videos I make sometimes! 😬
All these points resonated with me as I too had started my channel around the same time as you did. Now that I found your channel I am binge watching your videos. Both for content and to learn how I can improve on my own video making skills. In my another comment I had asked what editing software you use. Even I also use final cut pro. But still, it will be very helpful if you can answer some more questions.
1. What camera do you use? I ask because I like the video quality.
2. How do you record your sound?
I like how you are being yourself and trying not to do too much to become a successful RUclipsr. Keep up with the good work. So I was thinking…. because now your channel is pretty big, does any of your clients notice that you are a RUclipsr? If so, what’s their reaction? I was at Deloitte almost 15 years ago so I can kind of relate to your work experience.

i think your asides are great. they make the difference between a vid that is so-so and one that is worth watching and that can be actually enjoyed, rather than one that is, "ok, there's 7 minutes of my life i can never get back." don't worry too much about hurting someone's feelings, they're going to feel that way no matter what. being too risk averse invariably leads to banality. as long as you're cool with youtube rules, it's all good. fortune favors the bold.

Haha lol yess I agree with all of these! I started posting actively on the tube last year and had sooo many videos plannes but I keep changing my mind, my interests (and my ''niche'' tbh) all the time there's no way I could stick to the list. Also I spend so much time searching for good background music and cool sound effects... those small adjustments do make the video better but definitely take up a lot of time. Especially since I'm not a native English speaker who makes videos in English so there's a lot of ''uuh hmm is this the way you pronounce it'' 😂✌🏼

Yes, I can totally relate to the editing process. In my first video, I only took out the uh's and the ahs and stuff like that. Nothing really extra. Now I've downloaded Adobe premiere pro and want to learn that. So I can make better quality videos. And that's also the benefit when you're just starting out, right? Nobody sees those first videos in general.

As a new youtuber, this is so freaking relatable. Definitely hard to come up with ideas. Being careful w/ word choices. And dear GOD does editing take long. It takes me about 6-8hrs to edit each video. How long does yours take, Taylor?
Lolll I'm glad you think so 😂 RIGHT lol 6-8 is a lot!! Similar range for me-- Each one probably takes 8 hours or so to edit on average, some of them longer (I probably spent 30 hours editing my Antarctica video because of all the overlays) 😅
