    The Prussian Green painting is gorgeous. So much variation and shading and granulation, and so much mood in how you used it--the perfect scene for the colour. Now I wish I could get a tube 😊

      Thank you so much!! I'm fully planning on getting the RS version of the yellow so I can mix it myself, when I'm done with this tube. :D (I hope you've been doing good!!!!)

    Interesting! My local art store carried W&N, but they did not sell well, so they have quite old stock and vintage paints. I got my Quin gold and lead yellow there.

    Hello Eve, I just received a used set of WN watercolors that included Unused half pans. One of the colors is Prussian green and there was no information about pigments for this color. It was good to see your video. It looks like a wonderful shade.

    Sad it’s gone, but thanks for the pigment info to recreate it. I think this paint would be great for forests or misty landscapes. Thanks for sharing this info😘

    Hi Eve, Nice painting. I like dark moody blue-y greens. Sounds like there's some fun experimenting to do with Prussian blue and transparent yellows. Thanks for highlighting this intriguing hue. Have a good weekend.

      Hi Sally! Thank you so much! I like dark, deep, moody blue-greens too and I feel it's a color that's often missing from a lot of watercolor ranges. I know I can mix it myself, but the convenience factor can be really important for a color that I see myself using a lot!

    Ive started to transition over to using the Sennelier professional from the windsor and Newton just for the better range of green tones! If windsor started bringing these vintage colours back into the range id probably move back.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 месяцев назад +1

      I feel like greens are so often a sad color category in most ranges... It's always the same 5-6 greens.

      @@EveBolt I did a little digging around and I found the pigment information for the prussian green (I also brought the only tube of it I could find anywhere for £15.55 Aprox $19 usd not sure if I've been ripped off or not but I absolutely had to have it.)
      Prussian Green-PY109, PB27
      Do you know when this colour was discontinued? I've become quite fascinated. 😅

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely agree with you here. That's one of my favorite things about watercolor. If anything, the colors almost keep better that way, when it comes to vintage paints. And vintage W&N go back to when their paint was at their best so it's almost always worth getting those rock solid tubes XD

    It is pretty. Personally, I don't use Prussian Blue in any of my finished artwork. Nor do I use any mixtures including it. I simply can't be sure that it is lightfast. Antwerp Blue PB27 was tested by Teoh, and it faded. I do love the hue very much though, so that saddens me.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад

      It is a very unique hue and I agree that it's sad to cut it out completely. I understand that it's not lightfast but I'm not concerned by that fact. (Especially for sketchbook work! ;) )

    Beautiful colour, and I love your painting! A couple years ago, I found some of my old tubes of Winsor and Newton paints from my early days of painting (early '90s), and I was surprised there was no pigment info. Thanks for the video. 🥰

      Yeah! I was surprised too when I looked at these vintage tubes! Some will have the names of the pigments (like, azo something, etc) but most just have nothing. Doesn't make it easy for us to figure it out XD

    I think that the W&N range needs this colour. I use Daniel Smith Prusdian Green today but would buy this one if they started to produce it again.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад +1

      I agree! There aren't that many greens available in most watercolor ranges, and rarely a deep blue-green like this!

  • @creativespark7371
    @creativespark7371 7 месяцев назад +1

    It is a very beautiful color! The DS version is also very beautiful! I am tempted to buy it!
    ....But before I do, I am going to try to mix it because I have PB27 (Prussian Blue) and PY97 (Hansa Yellow Medium). I try to only buy single pigment colors and do my own mixing-unless I absolutely can not achieve the color or it is a color I use A LOT.
    Thanx so much for sharing this beautiful vintage color!

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you! And yeah, try mixing it first! You should be able to get a gorgeous range of greens this way. And if your paints are from tubes, you can make your own convenience mix once you're set on a ratio you like :)

  • @awatercolourist

    Historically, Prussian Green was made of PB27 and NY24 (Gamboge). If I may ask, where did you get the pigment information from, please?

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад +1

      Oh! hm, I have a spreadsheet that lists the old W&N colors with the pigments, I think most came from asking W&N directly..? (But I got the spreadsheet from a friend, so I don't remember clearly where these come from). Also, when this one was made, I don't think we still had genuine Gamboge readily available...? So that would explain the pigment switch.

    • @awatercolourist
      @awatercolourist 7 месяцев назад

      @@EveBolt Actually, W&N stopped making genuine Gamboge back in 2005. That’s not too long ago for us old timers.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад +1

      I agree! Though you can also try it with any yellow you already have :) (Make sure you're using PB27 and not PB29... It's probably a typo, but there's also such a difference of hue between these two colors.)

    Could you put the paint in a mortar and pestle, grind it up then mull it out with a bit of gum Arabic, maybe a bit of glycerin to reconstitute it? It’s so pretty.

  • @agentxp0749
    @agentxp0749 7 месяцев назад +1

    Lovely colour! I personally prefer Schmincke's Prussian Green, as its made with the more stable/lightfast PB60, yet is a similarly lovely colour. WN have a newer colour called Aqua Green that's probably the closest to this, if a bit more vibrant, as it's based on a phathlo pigment.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад

      I need to see if I have Aqua green, so I can swatch it to compare! I'm not really bothered by the lightfastness of PB27... I've never ran into any issues with it and I'm not likely to put any painting in such harsh lighting that it eats away the color :)

  • @FatsquatchPNW
    @FatsquatchPNW 7 месяцев назад +1

    Would it be possible to reconstitute it a little better by grinding the solid chunks into a powder again with a mortar and pestle and mixing with fresh gum arabic? Or would that "water down" the pigment too much? It's a gorgeous color and a shame W&N didn't try to reformulate it with an alternative yellow pigment.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  7 месяцев назад

      If you ground it down, as it already has gum arabic, you'd only need to mull it with water. No additional binder needed. It would be a way to mix it better, but would also be a lot of work ;)
