@@SamanthaCrostonTVYou’re 100% right, though, about Reed Garrett - coming in and shutting the door by getting that last out of the 4th was absolutely enormous. The whole game could have easily been very different had Freddie roped a bases-clearing double in the gap or something, and in a flash instead of 8-2 it’s 8-5.

So you're telling me you don't recall Flaherty telling Machado to "sit the F down, M--Fer" when he struck him out? We obviously hate Machado, but I'm just saying; people can easily give themselves over to the name calling etc. Coming off the Padres series, the Mets are clearly a class act. Also rewatch how Lindor handled himself when he hit the grandslam against the Phillys. Again, I repeat, class act.
The lesson everyone can learn from the Padres is humble yourself, or be humbled. That's all I'm saying. Stay humble. God bless.

4:42 One of the reasons the game wasn’t closer is that the Dodgers are short on pitchers, so Dave Roberts could use his high-leverage arms only when he was somewhat confident they could win. Therefore he didn’t pull Flaherty after the first inning, and went with Honeywell for four innings instead of using someone like Phillips, Kopech, Hudson, or Treinen.
However, I kind of liked the Mets’ approach of bringing Diaz into a 12-6 situation, preventing any momentum from building.

I will tell you the majority of Dodger fans will take it knowing that coming back to Los Angeles needing only one game to the World Series, and we will take it. I'm not saying it will be easy winning games 6 or 7, but I think we have a better chance. Btw I really enjoy your podcast. That being said.

If I was an LA fan, I’d feel the same way. At the same time I’d be wary of throwing another bullpen game in a series where both teams have shown a LOT of their bullpens. I can’t say I feel confident going into game 6, but I’m cautiously optimistic. I think there’s a good chance we are getting a WW3 game 7.

    • @lanceareadbhar

This can be spun two different ways depending on the type of fan you are.
Logically, taking two out of three the Mets is great and you should feel confident the Dodgers will win one of their next two games.
However, if you believe your team will always blow it, as a Mets fan they've trained me to always feel this way despite the score or series lead, then your team just failed the opportunity to knock a team out when they should have been at their lowest and now there is a rematch of Game 2 which the Mets won and if the Dodgers lose Game 6, anything can happen in Game 7 and those players that seemed so loose in the first five games might be playing a little tight which can be a recipe for disaster. I wouldn't bet on the Mets to win this series, but I wouldn't be comfortable as a Dodger fan either.

The games have not been close, but the series has been entertaining. Much credit to the Mets for staving off elimination and getting the series back to LA. Now they have their best pitcher Sean Manaea going in Game 6, while the Dodgers have a bullpen game, which can certainly backfire. Dodgers still have the advantage though being up 3 games to 2. However, that ends if the Mets find a way to win and get it to a Game 7.

You’re absolutely correct, this is weird because the Dodgers are playing differently than we normally see. If I see one of those beautiful WAIAMF badges on this post, I’ll clue you into what I see after the Dodgers win 2 games in the WS.
I will give you these 2 things:
Nobody did the homework. The focus in the pen should be Treinen, Kopeck, and Phillips. They are all closers on any team. Go to Pitching Ninja and see game 3 pitching analysis and you’ll see why you should be worried seeing these guys.
Second, on games starting after 8 pm EST the Dodger fanbase watching grows 10 million additional viewers. Maybe not all 10 million are cheering for the Dodgers, but I believe the entire country of Japan is cheering for Shohei.

Okay. This is long. Please read on a computer not on a phone. You're going to hate it, but if you keep an objective and open mind and be 100% honest with yourself, I believe it holds water.
First thing, the Dodgers Moneyballed pitching. I didn't think it was possible amd after I gave the three closers, many others saw this. Media even picked up on the bullpenning the games, where you could run the same bullpen session and the all the batters will not see the same arms.
Line up. We can agree that 1-9 any bat can hurt no matter what order, but 1-6 are key. The starting pitcher must keep their pitch counts low facing these guys without giving up hits or runs. Most of these bats are very diciplined and easily get full counts. If you go full count the pitcher has thrown 18-25 pitches(given a few fouls) which is 20-25% pitches for your starter. The starter will begin to crumble within the 3-4 inning. After that I hope you have 5 dominant relivers to close the game.
"it's plenty wise. We know what we're holding and we know what you're holding" -Mike McDermott
What we are now seeing is the Asian invasion of baseball. Jackie did it for blacks, Fernando did it for Latins, Shohei is doing it for Asians. Roberts is half Japanese, Edmans half Korean, and of course you got Sho and Yoshi. You can see it in the on base celebrations(which is some Dragonball Z thing),the Kike/Sho Streetfighter thing, not sure what the Kike/Lux touching tips thing is, I don't think its Japanese, but I can't rule it out.
If you don't know the craft of Japanese baseball, please take a deep dive. What they do is just a better, well honed product. Look up summer Koshien. I've heard of teams being "all in" or "110%", I don't think they know what that is. If you don't know, the summer koshien is a high school tournament where the practice is more grueling that pro teams hard workout. So much so, the WHO had to intervene due to child abuse. This is probably the second instance of Japanese craft you've witnessed, the first being Jiro Dreams of Sushi. If interested look into Japanese whiskey, Grand Seiko, Hagorome chaulk, coffee culture, jeans, etc.
We've exported our culture and the rest of the world has caught up. We first saw it with Snowboarding, we saw it with the NBA with Luka, Joker, Dirk, Wemby, and now Yuki. The Japanese now rule skateboarding and now they're making a run at baseball.
If anybody uses this info, I request that you reference the source and give credit to the WAIAMF podcast.
I prohibit any monitary wagers to be placed. However, I endorse, encourage and appreciate humiliation bets.
These are two big wants and I have no way of enforcing this. I'm not religious, but I believe in the baseball gods. FAFO
"I've said it before and I'll say it again. Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you can miss it."-Ferris Bueller
This is extremely abridged, I got tired of losing and retyping it twice.

Commenting the next day. I am very happy they didn’t lose on their own field. Sean has been the most consistent pitcher. So that is good. I thought the Mets were beyond flat in the first game. They can’t come out flat after the cross country flight and need to play good defense. Alvarez got going and putting Winker back in is huge. If they don’t get to the WS i say it was a huge mistake to disrupt that lineup chemistry. The broadcasters are awful and biased for LA saying it is all set up for them pitching wise and they did everything right. We will see if they are right. The Mets seem to play their best with their backs against the wall so we will see.

Smart move by Dodgers to let Honeywell pitch as much as he did, the Mets scored 12 runs and used only 2 relief pitchers. Smart. Mets bats came alive as did the team. Winker in! Squirrel is back! I still don't think they'll take 2 in L.A. but the future is bright and if the Metsies DO manage to take the last two...woof. That would be more incredible than the Giants beating the Pats when they were undefeated.

Like many, my mentality was that the Mets needed to pitch in the strike zone to the Dodgers. Throwing outside pitches to them would be like hitting Hulk Hogan while he's hulking up; it will NOT work, and you will regret it EVERY time.
The reason why the Dodgers had been winning by such blowouts were not because they were turning the games into Home Run Derbies (in fact, they popped it up more than they homered out), it was because they were getting hits that, with no runners on base, would've done little more than just put them on base, little at a time. But when we'd walk them, we were practically gift wrapping them extra runs for every hit they get.
Thankfully, Peterson understood that, and the relievers did too (most of the time). And that resulted in the Dodgers having to RELY on hitting home runs just to get on the board, which is what the Mets had been doing up until then. Whereas in this game, it was just the opposite; the Mets were getting the timely hits (AND hitting home runs) and the Dodgers found themselves having to swing for the fences just to catch up.

Hey, you two beauties!! You must have jumped up and down like it was NEW YEAR'S EVE when the METS won. Above all, the METS hitters didn't leave their bats in their hotel rooms, nor did they use KENDO STICKS or POGO STICKS to hit. THEY ACTUALLY USED THEIR BATS, INCLUDING "NO HIT" ALVAREZ.

Even though its over they were able to salvage some of their dignity. Even in a win they gave up 6 runs. The Dodgers are happy they will take it at home. Alonso is still gone.

The specter of Dave Roberts utilizing a Bullpen Game in a potential series clincher is mind-boggling! I like our chances to force a Game 7. If Hollywood crumbles due to this bizarre tactic it may cost Roberts, his job. Dusty Baker anyone?

The biggest mistake was shorting the bullpen before a 7 game series. Having Ottavino & Lucchesi would be so much better than Acuna & Senga. Mendoza defended his decision in the pre-game 6 interview. He doesn't admit his mistakes; he just gets defensive.

To answer your question, no, as a Dodgers fan I am in no way surprised. We won 98 games but I swear there’s not a Dodgers fan alive who felt like this team had a shot at 100 wins. They never seemed to get really hot, they never had a stretch when the rotation was solid for two weeks, and they never seemed like they had a killer instinct. Very weird season, so this isn’t surprising or even all that troubling.
