That’s what I’ve come looking for. It was so useful from the mini guide. Why on earth have they done away with it. You can set to record but not remind you. It makes no sense.
What I don't like about Sky Q compared to Sky+ is that there is no Reminder feature to remind you of programs you want to watch in the future. I use to use this all the time. Now I have to try to remember them or write them down on a piece of paper like a caveman!
Me too. It’s pathetic to have done away with this very useful feature. I don’t want to record everything, I just want the reminder to pop up like the old one. I’ve been frustrated looking for information on how to do this only to find out bad news!😢
Thanks for the review. Ordered my Q plus broadband a couple of days ago. Been with sky for about 27 years. Sacked virgin media broadband and phone also about 27years, their reliability and foreign call centres became absolutely atrocious! Seven weeks without broadband because the call centre kept saying they had ordered and dispatched a new hub but each time it transpired the hadn't. 37 calls in one day and got a UK agent, problem solved, new hub I three days. Amazing how virgin don't call back as promised but now I'm leaving they have called and text me five times (in three days) asking what they can do for me to stay (told them, give it all for free and I'll still leave). Anyway taking sky Q plus broadband plus telephone (national and international calls included) equals a total monthly saving of....... (drum roll 😂) £90 per month. Install in two weeks.
@@cannonball7984 So I don't have a BT line, sky was told this, keep this in mind for later in my reply. Engineer arrived with Q box, looked at existing dish (very old) and decided to replace it foc 👍🏻. Installed my Q box (which I could have done) and then told me my 4k TV was not displaying 4k from the Q Box, the signal would come and go completely, however on a different hdmi input it would display and work but only in 1080hd, therefore the box was fine but my TV's 4k port was faulty/broken (funny how it worked right up to Q box install) I questioned if it was a settings is and was told no. Then we tried to access subscription for paramount+ and no joy again. He left in the knowledge that I would be taking this up with sky directly. I then noticed that my 2TB box had been replaced with a 1TB Q box, not happy again. I then reinstalled the box and adjusted the Q box and TV settings and eureka I had 4k. Spoke with sky and they bent over backwards to sort out the paramount + problem and then offered to send out a new Q box next day and for the inconvenience and being a platinum customer upgraded it to 2TB foc normally £50. Next day Q box was exchanged, I installed it, adjusted the settings and perfect 4k. The Paramount+ inclusive subscription had been cancelled and then reinstated, logged in and worked perfectly. Really happy, I then received a text message apologising for what happened and advising that a compensation credit had been added to my account. 👍🏻 Next day the came to install the Internet, came in the house and asked where my BT socket was, sorry don't have a BT line going to my house as you were all told upon accepting sky talk and broadband. He said he'd spoken with his manager and they would return in the afternoon to run a cable 👍🏻 They didn't, not even a call. Complained and eventually the talk/broadband was installed two weeks later. Great engineer, no trouble, no fuss, went above and beyond. Works flawlessly, yes I know it's slower than virgin but I don't need rocket ship speeds just for sky downloads, netflix and paramount+ or ps4 gaming which also works perfectly. I actually now have constant internet all through the house and even in my garden, something I didn't have with virgin even though the hub is in the identical location. Post install I received another text stating the a compensation credit had been added to my account for the installation inconvenience. 👍🏻 About a week after I logged in to my sky app and noticed I could not access full account details for TV, talk/broadband or my sky mobile. Spoke with customer service who again were brilliant and after doing their thing the problem was solved. Guess whst? Another text message with another compensation credit to my account 👍🏻 On my sky talk I wanted to keep anonymous caller reject which they did, but I lost this when they activated sky talk shield, sorry one or the other and more apologies as to not having been informed, no problem, I can just reject them with talk shield.... You guessed it, "Do you shop at Tesco?" "Err yes why?" "we're really sorry for the inconvenience, I'm sending you an email where you can collect a Tesco groceries voucher as an apology from us." 😂 WTF another 👍🏻 So my first two months were virtually free and then £15 towards my grocery bill. Most importantly the broadband and telephone have worked perfectly along with the Q box. Now that is what I call keeping a long time customer happy. Never ever had any goodwill gestures from Virgin. In a nutshell I'm really pleased that I switched over, so far so good on the reliability and a consistant internet speed throughout the day. Sorry my reply was long winded but I just had to let you know how their CS team seems to bend over backwards to make sure the customer is happy.
@@cannonball7984 🤔 wasn't told about your question, sorry for the late reply. Anyway I'm about 10 months in with Sky broadband and landline. Hope I don't regret tempting fate but it's been brilliant! Reliability has been fantastic, no issues to date. Netflix, prime video, and paramount plus stream effortlessly in 4k. I never watch any live tv and don't bother recording anything as UHD downloads to Q are faultless. The laptop and other devices are just as quick on the WiFi and despite virgins claimed superior speeds, I've not noticed any difference. The playstation still works flawlessly with online gaming too. The only thing that can take a little longer is huge playstation downloads, but that's not an issue for me, even virgin super fast broadband took hours sometimes. For me the reliability to date and £900 saving I've made in 10 months makes it a no brainer topped off with second to none customer service. I know not everyone will be happy with sky just like there are resolute fans of virgin but this is just from my experience. Funnily enough I read a news article where Virgin rated the most complained about broadband/tv/telephone provider and Sky came in as best provider with most happy customers.
Yes i believe you do need a subscription to watch. When i had sky q installed the engineer replaced the old dish with a new one. Sky are now trying to persuade customers to have sky glass or sky stream which does not need a dish. Sky stream help: www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-stream-faqs. Nice video. Just ordered a couple of Q boxes to replace the HD we have had for years. Very helpful...... what speed do you get in opposite part of the house?
I have the router at the back of the house and the sky box in the living room so the weakest signal is mainly upstairs. My solution was to get some tp link wifi extenders .

Hi, thanks for the video. I have two questions, I hope you see this. Can you please tell me are there any lights or backlights on that particular Sky Q remote you have in the video (other than the little one at the top?) I know it's 3 years later but I have to upgrade to Sky Q, it's compulsory if i want to keep Sky. I have an old sky plus box and remote at the moment which I am happy with. I am sensitive to the new LEDs on the newer boxes and remotes. I know the newer Q remotes are bluetooth and infrared and voice control. I saw in your video at 6:30 that you can pair the box to the easy grip remote. Can you please tell me is that easy grip remote just a standard Sky remote? (I'm hoping it is) I talked to Sky today but they don't really care about the light issue. Thanks so much
Hi there The sky q remote i was using did not have any backlight but not sure about the latest remote. As far as i know the easy grip is a standard remote. Try this link for sky help: helpforum.sky.com/
Hi there try this hope it helps. An S or Ⓢ symbol will indicate if there are subtitles for your show. This symbol is on the right hand side of the screen, alongside the video controls. It appears when the show starts. To enable subtitles, press the S button to switch subtitles on and off.
I hate sky Q, it’s so backwards. You have to press the down arrow to go UP on the channels. Also the favourite button which was usually the blue button, now you have to press 20 options to get to your favourites (I’m exaggerating a bit but still...). I prefer sky HD+ or whatever it’s called - one downgrade from sky Q. I hate sky Q with passion, it’s too interactivity and has so many navigation options. I miss it’s simplicity with the old sky boxes.

Question guys is it much better than the sky box I’ve had for 8 years is it worth doing is it much better or not as sky have just sent me a message saying at no extra cost do I want free installation of sky Q……. ????
Hi there , Sky q is a big improvement on the old sky in my opinion , but best give sky a call and tell them what you can afford . Lots of people are cancelling all types of subscriptions at the moment .So they will do what they can to keep your custom. Good luck.
Hi As long as your tv has an HDMI connection it should be fine. But if you have problems with the resolution try this from the sky community: With the Sky Q box on (green light), press Home 1 0 8 0 Home which sets the resolution of the Sky Q box to 1080i.
If your TV is compatible, the picture will come on.
If it doesn't, it might be too old so it might only be HD Ready which has a resolution of 720p. In which case, you'll need to connect the Sky Q box to a more modern Full HD TV, then change the resolution in the Sky Q box Settings to 720p. Then you can plug the box back onto the original TV.
Hi there ,thanks for watching. The coloured buttons are for specific programmes. The colour of the button you need to press will come up on the screen. For example when there is world cup or euro football the red button lets you switch between live games if you have sky sports.
You can't record to dvd so that messes me up because I like to record all the football as there is too much to watch before the box fills up, and it's nice to collect many games for posterity. I am very unhappy that sky plus is being phased out
My mum has the old sky box HD under her name . I was looking into getting the Sky Q under my name as the account holder, will I she still able to keep the old sky box and dish . She’s not paying anything or on contract with sky as she’s had the box for years
she can keep the old sky box and dish but with sky q you would get a new sky dish so i dont think the old sky would be usable. you could always try for sky multiroom.
@@David-lf4yu you may be able to get sky to add a Low-noise block downconverter (LNB) to your dish which would allow your mum to watch freeview but not sky q this might work. Ask sky when you order.
Might be a bit late ask them for a hybrid LNB this has a separate feed for sky Q and then one feed for classic (older boxes) then they would just need to run a cable to the sky q box
Found this online: "Many users believe the blue light that shows when they are playing back recordings is far too bright, with one person stating on the Sky forum that it is like having a laser pen shining at them. While some have considered sticking tape or light dimming stickers over the light, others have found a more high-tech but still simple solution. Users can switch the light off by swiping right on their remote touchpad or pressing right on their normal remote. They must then press the BACK (or DISMISS) button on their remote. While this does not permanently disable the light, it could offer some relief to those who have been dazzled or frustrated by it since switching to Sky Q".
One problem I have is having the re enter my pin over and over again to access channels such as Sky Atlantic. My parental settings are all turned off. Does this happen for you too?
Found this online but not sure if it works or how much. here are the contact details: Digi Repairs UK & Ireland Ltd Tel: +44 (0) 2866 327293 Email: info@digirepairs.co.uk How to continue to watch your recordings on your Sky+HD box after you upgrade to Sky Q 09/10/2019/ Many people call us hoping there is a way that they can still gain access to their recordings on their old Sky+ HD box after they upgraded to Sky Q. Here we tell you how you can still do this. When Sky upgrade you to Sky Q they change the pick up at the dish known as the LNB. This picks the signal up from your satellite dish. They normally fit a wideband LNB which only works on Sky Q box and will not work for a Sky+HD box. If you want you continue to run your Sky +HD box alongside your Q box then you would need a Hybrid LNB . This gives an output for Sky Q and an output for Sky+ HD box and fits on the existing dish Next you will need to to connect both boxes to your broadband or WiFi. Chances are they would have already been connected from before. When you want to watch a recording on your Sky+HD box remove card from Sky Q box located on the side of your Sky Q box. Double click to remove card and insert into Sky +HD box. Go to sky One and a message appears say ” Your viewing card needs to be paired”. Press select and pair your card. You now have access to all your recording on your Sky+ HD box again. Return your card to Sky Q box and do the same and pair your viewing card back to your Sky Q box. You now have access to all your Sky Q recordings.
Seems like a lot of clicks to get to the Planner. On my Sky+ box I just clicked TV Guide then into Planner to see my recordings. This is probably gonna take a while to get used to! Unfortunately I've been told my Sky+ box will soon pack in and I'll be forced to upgrade :(
Hi, how have you been told your Sky+ box will pack in and why? I've had mine for over 13 years and undecided about upgrading to Q at this moment in time, so it'd be useful to know if I'll have no choice one day.
@@lancashire-john Well I needed a replacement remote and so I had to call support - they told me that I should upgrade to Sky Q soon as they will roll out new software upgrades throughout the UK and any deprecated boxes (Sky+) will stop working as it will not be compatible with the new upgrade. I can't see it being a scare tactic, because it's not like they're charging for the Sky Q boxes, I think maybe they want to try and make sure everyone is aware that they need to be on the latest technology as if the box does break, there's no support available for it anymore. This was why it took so long to get the replacement remote because they're not making them anymore.
@@lancashire-john i had mine installed yesterday, they just said in a letter in august that sky + boxes will stop receiving updates in the future but not that they will stop working one day

@@keithchegwin1222 Many remote controls feature four colour-coded buttons: red, green, yellow and blue. These were originally used as an enhancement for teletext services to provide shortcut navigation known as ‘fastext . The red button seems to be the only one used on sky q usually for things like selecting uhd or different games on sport channels. Why sky still have the other colour buttons i really dont know.
As a severely visually impaired person I now have difficulty actually watching T.V. and find 'audio description' increasingly useful. I had the older sky boxes and the EPG was fairly easy to see. At time of writing, I'm unsure how I'll manage using SKY Q as I've really been forced to upgrade as my box died on me today with some recordings still on it which I'll now not get a chance to listen to which is annoying. I think SKY should think of ways of helping customers with this issue? My only problem with your excellent video is you said nothing about getting radio programmes on the new SKY Q? Another video would be great to cover this feature of sky which I was fairly familiar with on the older boxes?

Such a shame Sky did away with the reminder button used it all the time on my previous box!!
True
That’s what I’ve come looking for. It was so useful from the mini guide. Why on earth have they done away with it. You can set to record but not remind you. It makes no sense.
Can you get text on the sky q remote like the old sky hd remote
Thnx mate i learned things i needed to know in one watch
What I don't like about Sky Q compared to Sky+ is that there is no Reminder feature to remind you of programs you want to watch in the future. I use to use this all the time. Now I have to try to remember them or write them down on a piece of paper like a caveman!
I agree, missed a couple of programmes because of this.
How long did it take to install
@@random.editsxx.2265 about 30 mins. including the new dish. pretty simple
Me too. It’s pathetic to have done away with this very useful feature. I don’t want to record everything, I just want the reminder to pop up like the old one. I’ve been frustrated looking for information on how to do this only to find out bad news!😢
I think its built in now to automatically record series he says this towards the end, it just won't show up in a list like on the old box.
Does the remote have to make that tapping noise - that annoys me
Getting mine wednesday and im actually looking forward to it.

How has sky internet been compared to virgin media? From a fellow lympschvitz attendant

So I don't have a BT line, sky was told this, keep this in mind for later in my reply.
Next day the came to install the Internet, came in the house and asked where my BT socket was, sorry don't have a BT line going to my house as you were all told upon accepting sky talk and broadband.
About a week after I logged in to my sky app and noticed I could not access full account details for TV, talk/broadband or my sky mobile. Spoke with customer service who again were brilliant and after doing their thing the problem was solved. Guess whst? Another text message with another compensation credit to my account 👍🏻
On my sky talk I wanted to keep anonymous caller reject which they did, but I lost this when they activated sky talk shield, sorry one or the other and more apologies as to not having been informed, no problem, I can just reject them with talk shield.... You guessed it, "Do you shop at Tesco?" "Err yes why?" "we're really sorry for the inconvenience, I'm sending you an email where you can collect a Tesco groceries voucher as an apology from us." 😂 WTF another 👍🏻
So my first two months were virtually free and then £15 towards my grocery bill.
Sorry my reply was long winded but I just had to let you know how their CS team seems to bend over backwards to make sure the customer is happy.
nice@@cannonball7984
Thank you really informative and helpful .

Does the Sky q box just work on a smart TV?
Hi
As long as your tv has an HDMI connection it should be fine.

Can you the Q Logo always on?

How to continue to watch your recordings on your Sky+HD box after you upgrade to Sky Q
09/10/2019/
Many people call us hoping there is a way that they can still gain access to their recordings on their old Sky+ HD box after they upgraded to Sky Q.
This gives an output for Sky Q and an output for Sky+ HD box and fits on the existing dish
Next you will need to to connect both boxes to your broadband or WiFi.

I'm sorry, _300GB for software updates???_ What, are they doing like the original Wii and just not erasing the old versions as the system updates!?
You can pair the Sky Q hub to sky go using the sky go app on your computer or
smart phone for some reason it would not pair under settings
Have had sky Q from the moment it came out love it just wish you could put more apps on as with tvs and in reality how long they support apps not long at all it's a joke proper big joke
How do u get to a specified minute in the recordings, have 6hrs of golf taped and want a short cut, just using ffwd takes forever! 🙄
This is from sky help : "When watching a recording, press the play/pause button or swipe up to bring up the progress bar. When the progress bar is displayed, swipe right to move minute by minute through the recording. To reach a certain point, simply swipe right and hold on the touchpad of a Sky Q touch remote or press and hold the right arrow button on a Sky Q remote."
Anyone know how to get back to the main TV using sky q remote when you press the input button on the top right to switch the HDMI? (without using other remote)
This is from the sky community
"Each time you press the button it moves down to the next input. Once the correct input is highlighted then just leave it and it will change to that input. You don't press any other button including the up/down keys, just the input key. "
Hope this helps
@@nocluereview2524 thanks mate but I still have to get the remote for the TV to press back up to exit out of the source setting. Was hoping you could exit with the back button on sky q remote but can't seem to figure it out
Try this:
The method is when you press the input button to bring up the source list, hold it for 3 seconds. The source list will stay on the screen whilst the button is held. After 3 seconds, the sky remotes arrow keys and select button should fully control the list.
@@nocluereview2524 but I can't get the input list off with the sky q remote? I have to press backup on the other remote for the TV?
Sky community : " Have you un paired and then paired your remote?, to do this first press and hold the 7 and 9 buttons untill the remote flashes 4 times, this forces a factory reset, once you've done that press and hold 1 and 3 buttons for 2 seconds this will pair your remote with the Sky Q box, once fully paired you can then set the remote to turn your TV on etc by the following sequence:
To set up your Sky Q remote to control the volume, power and input source on your TV press Home, select Settings, then Setup, then Remote control. Select your Sky Q remote and follow the on screen instructions. Your TV should then be ready to use.
Also : "One more thing I could suggest is turn the HDMI control to "Off" on the Sky Q box, I have heard this works on some TV set ups.
Does it have the wwe network app?
no app for wwe i think bt sport have it at the moment
I phoned sky up just a query about my bill which got answered
she then said you have being with us a while and you have got the old box I will send an engineer around free of charge to connect the new q box he came and put it on and my tv which is a Samsung plasma kept coming up with a message saying not compatible
the Sky engineer fixed the problem at 2 o'clock in the afternoon and when I came in about 11:30 on the night the message was back on again saying the TV was not compatible the thing is I never had a problem with my old box and I am not clued up with all this new technology so I just connected my old box back up and thought it was going to be the same as It was before
the engineer came out
my point is everything was working ok with the old box but obviously there is a problem with the Q box not compatible with my Samsung Tv
I will phone Sky up in the morning and see what they say
But who's to say if the engineer comes back out free of charge again it will not happen again and now my old box is coming up with the message there is no signal coming from the Sky dish so there's obviously a problem
In hindsight I wish I had just said leave it the way things are when I phoned sky up to query about
my bill
what a bit of a nightmare when you live on your own and you haven't a clue about all this new technology but people think because they know everybody should know but like I say to people would a plumber know how to connect a light fitment or would a electrician know how to lay a carpet
( for example)
Is your tv HD ready or full hd ? HD ready picture is 720p and full hd is 1080 p. That might be the problem.
This is from the sky community forum:
With the Sky Q box on (green light), press Home
1 0 8 0 Home which sets the resolution of the Sky Q box to 1080i.
Hi, I feel your frustrations, I too get so fed up that we are all supposed to know how to do this or that….firstly if I did, I would be a Sky Engineer, secondly , I doubt many engineers who come out would know the slightest thing about Geopyhsics or Computer Graphic Design as I do….just received a text from Sky offering me a free SKY Q box and installation….mmm…I have 12 year old smart ish TV and a good non SKY dish and SKY +HD, think I’ll hang fire and maybe do streaming when I get a fully smart new tv….
Yes
Sorry we changed to sky q from sky hd approx six weeks ago...sky q box itself ,now it’s wired Ethernet works fine, but mini box in bedroom, wireless is crap, wired in Ethernet so works better but can still stop and cut out.....no wonder engineers take the old boxes, hd boxes with them otherwise I’d put them back in!
This is from the sky community page : www.sky.com/help/diagnostics/sky-broadband-diagnostic/wifi-drops-in-and-out
Next try this : www.sky.com/help/diagnostics/sky-broadband-diagnostic/sky-broadband-diagnostic
"Remember when you are connecting your mini to the network and it asks to you press and hold the 'WPS' (wireless password security) to wirelessly connect your mini, you don't have to connect this directly to the router, if your Sky Q Main box or any Sky Q boosters are closer to the mini, connect to one of them.
Lastly....if you continue to have issues then give Sky a call and and an adviser can run a network scan and see in detail how your Sky Q mesh is performing, they can send out a booster for free if it is needed to help push your wifi into parts of the house that struggle to get a consistent signal. Hope this helps ."
How do go into 3D mode
This is from sky.com
"To watch Sky in 3D, you'll need:
A sky+HD, Sky Q or Sky Q Mini box box connected to your broadband network.
Sky Cinema with the HD Pack or the Box Sets Bundle*.
A 3D-ready TV.
3D glasses.
You'll also be able to watch movies or sports in 3D if Sky Cinema or Sky Sports are included in your TV bundle.
Activate Sky 3D
Make sure you've activated Sky 3D by signing into Sky 3D activation and selecting Activate Sky 3D.
Set up 3D on your TV
Switching on 3D mode can be different between different models of TV. If you need extra help, check your TV manual, the TV manufacturer website or helpline.
Make sure your picture resolution is set to 1080p or lower to watch titles in 3D.
To access 3D mode on the TV:
enter image description here
Play some Sky 3D content and check the side-by-side image is on screen.
Put on the 3D glasses.
Press the 3D button on the TV remote (not the Sky remote).
The picture will now be in 3D. If this did not work, you may need to contact your TV manufacturer.
When you're not watching Sky 3D content, switch the TV back to normal mode. Leaving the TV in 3D mode on non-3D channels will distort the image."
I'm not sure but i think these tvs are what you need to have to watch 3d on sky q.
Sony Bravia, LG, Panasonic or Samsung TV.
dude, the language button???
I bought a sky q box of my local car boot with a Itb hard drive for £3 a bargain
Remote improvement don't think so , it's as slippery as owt , not tactile , can only pair one remote Bluetooth to box , so that sky think they can force you to use muti room , no analog audio out can cause problems for some, no way of extending the remote function like with RF2 out put
You didn't do the TV guide 😒
Hi, you seem to have got it sorted! Connected today and was told what to do, but now can’t remember (sorry non-techie senior). I literally go to catch up, find what I want, press record and then it doesn’t show in my recordings area - any chance you can let me know how to d9 this correctly! Sorry! Thanks 😄
Try this from the sky help page: www.sky.com/help/diagnostics/recording-on-sky-q/problem-with-series-links-instructions
