Good point on frostbite... I was arguing in chat about how it’s not in the true AOE build and why; but ofc there were a few spergz wanting to fight over it. Having played gnome mage through vanilla as my first class I learned what was efficient and what was a headache. The problem that I ran into most of the time was on busy serves where the spots that didn’t have ranged/caster mobs and were melee only are taken most of the time. There are a ton of secret spots but they are hidden and usually take long travel times. But once u make those things happen it works well. Sometimes we would focus groups that were green to us and we could actually get two different ranks of flamestrike early on which I think they ended up changing that. But nothing was more redeeming than getting multiple ranks of flamestrike ticking while blizzard was doing its thing. The best advice is to get on wowhead and search for melee mobs in the non popular zones. There’s usually really good spots that counter the populated zones. What is with the huge delay I always get in classic before the first blizzard damage tic? Not lagging or anything, just takes like 1.5 seconds before they get damaged and slowed.
7:05 this is misleading information, due to leeway which isn't in the footage being shown , you need to be within 10 yards for arcane explosion and the mobs reach 7 yards, again because of leeway, grouping mobs tightly enough (within 3 yards) to hit them all with arcane explosions is extremely unviable. thats why jokerd almost never did arcane explosion kiting, and never did on pulls that could gib him
If you go 3/3 into IMP Blizzard, then your Cone of Cold slow will not be applied if your targets are still being affected by Blizzard. Is it me, or..? I'm pretty sure you go 2/3 into IMP Blizzard and use Cone of Cold to control the mob packs. They will NEVER hit you if you do this because Frost Nova and CoC cooldowns don't overlap, so you can always kite or CC by freezing everything in place.
I just don't agree with using this guide. It's so hard to aoe farm these spots during peak hours. Jokerd was able to use these areas because he was ahead of the leveling pack. If you notice, there's no one around him in those clips. A much more useful video would have been alternate grinding spots.
How are you upgrading your gear as you level since you aren't doing dungeons/quests to get those gear upgrades? is it all from dropped greens/blues or buying off AH? If i lvl from 35-40, my gear is going to be at 35ish when I want to transition to the new grinding spot from 40-45?
Not sure who uploaded what first but you and Kargoz are using the same videos, saying the same things in the same order almost. One of you watched the other person's guide.
from 44 to 52 you can solo AoE ZF gy (750 xp per mob at 44 / 400-500 at 51) no problem with other mages :D You can start earlier but at 44 u wont have problems killing patrol
Job has wanted me to work harder than ever at a time when I ACTUALLY wanna game. Haven't went hard on a game since Overwatch. I stopped OW when they changed Mercy. But the big project is done. Time to game, boys.

The only reason why Jokerd was able to do this is because he was ahead of the zerg and utilized layering to his advantage. If you try to farm like this now, you will have competition at every spot every single time. I have levelled from 1 to 40 and have never AoE farmed because someone is always there, and if by the grace of God no one is there... just give it a minute or two, someone will show up to ruin your fun. If you wait a few months, you might be able to do this, but until then you will have to level normally:(
No, that's incorrect, holy shit this is like the 4th comment. He leveled 1-58 completely legit and has done 1-60 on private servers multiple times.... ahead of the zerg yes, the strat is to have a good questing/aoe route to 30 something then AOE farm while you're ahead to get even more ahead so you are completely uncontested... it's part of the strat and layering isn't necessary to do it. He was so far ahead by lvl 58 he would have gotten world first WITHOUT LAYERING most likely.
@@WoWUndad Hmm, no, I commented to let people know that this method of levelling is highly popular and all spots always seem to be taken. Kindly go fuck yourself and have a nice day:)
@@serialperson4133 I am fully aware of who Jokerd is and his accomplishments within the private server scene, and while layering is not necessary, it helped him out a lot in this case. Since he was on a PVP server and also streamed his 3+ day grind, he faced a lot of trolls and griefers on his journey but would simply layer hop to a different phase if this happened and carried on farming. I am not diminishing his achievement by any means and my original comment was simply to let other watchers know that every spot Jokerd used to level is highly known and your chances of finding a free spot is next to impossible even with layering at this point.
Well, it helps to exploit the layering system by constant party jumping (an exploit Bliz is working to fix) and having an army of stooges prop you up doesn't hurt either.
@@tarb1320 yeah except he didn't, didn't get a single mob tag and only started layering into lvl 58, so all of 1-58 works? and 58-60 works, it's just slower.... why are people saying this...
Good guide. It needs to be said though that most footage in there is from private servers that don't have leeway mechanic. I've seen so many mages trying to aoe grind in classic and dying horribly because they thought it's gonna be easy. I've lvl'd to 58 by now by grinding and I can tell you it is by no means as easy as it was on private servers.
AoE grinding is amazing, BUT on herod, you can only do it at like 3AM otherwise there are 15 mages at every AoE spot. Most of these clips are people that were ahead of the lvling pack.
Frost is really good for both single target and aoe grinding but if you want to aoe grind then you have to spec for that. Since you’re a mage even if you’re not specced for single target your dps will be good enough for dungeons (up until engame).
So nervewracking doing stuff slightly similar to this on HC. Levelled a war to 60 on HC first time but when it came to mage I died 3 times before I got a char to 60.
Why does nobody say in these guides what talents to get first? Yeah it's all well and good telling us what talents to use, but if I'm level 22 how do I know exactly what I'm putting my points into and what order
Frost Tree: 1. 3/3 elemental precision 2. 2/5 imp fb or 2/2 frost warding 3. 2/2 frost nova 4. 3/3 permafrost 5. 3/3 imp blizzard 6. 1/1 cold snap 7. 1/3 piercing ice 8. 3/3 frost channeling 9. 2/2 arctic reach 10. 1/1 ice block 11. 3/3 improved cone of cold 12. 3/3 piercing ice After this its preference between finishing improved frostbolt, shatter, and ice shards. Obviously get ice barrier immediately at level 40. Once you get ice barrier go into the arcane tree: Arcane Tree: 1. 2/2 arcane subtlety 2. 3/5 arcane focus 3. 5/5 clearcasting Rest of your points are preference, I like to continue down arcane tree for improved counterspell (pvp purposes). If you don't care about pvp just throw the rest of your points into the frost tree (shatter, ice shards, improved frostbolt) Hope this helps :)
ah man, what a throwback. mages were all using layering exploits through changing groups to quickly level and then again for farming money quickly for their epic mounts. good times.
How do you do this right at level 20 when you can only have one point in imp blizzard? it feels like mobs are just too fast still. EDIT: The general principle of AOE grinding is easy enough to understand and execute, once you've got the talents and everything. The biggest hurdle to learning this tactic is the early 20s, when you first get blizzard, but can't have the max slow yet.
I personnally have this kind of build (46 already) but i think you could take over those 3 points in damage (piercing ice) because the impact will be not that much. I prefer 5 points improve arcane missile (because pvp serv and hunter OP) + arcane subtlety 2 so 13/0/37
My dude, I'm waiting on my laptop to come Thursday, and you just made it so much harder to decide which class I want to play lmao. Preist, Mage or Warrior.
So to my knowledge you cant farm murlocs anymore, half of them will cast only and its too hard to kite them. Also frost nova will not dismount you anymore you will need to make a dismount macro. The dismounts from getting hit is like 100 % ! Can anyone else confirm this for me ?
Man I just can’t seem to get the hang of this. Try as I might it feels like I’m just not doing something right. I don’t understand how he’s face tanking so many mobs without getting Insta gibbed. I have sta/int gear but when I break ice block with as many mobs as he’s showing here I damn near get killed before I can even nova and move away. Just gotta keep practicing I guess
Could anyone comment for having a frost mage talented for AOE farming / lvling / whatever, what would be a good enchant. Im currently in my early lvl 30s and have the SM dagger and orb offhand with some spell power. Would it be more beneficial to put +30 spellpower enchant on my mainhand or +22 INT. Im not sure if the coefficeint for spell power enchant is worth it for Blizzard grinding and aoe damage in general.
I gave aoe grinding a go but it really ruined the fun of the mage for me. Granted I wasn't very good, but I'm far more enjoying st frostbolt levelling now. You still rinse through mobs, especially with crits
@No you yeah i get that, but by excluding frostbite and 5/5 frostbolt + shatter you kinda limit yourself for single target. Just wasn't worth it for me
EarlZMoade that spec is hypothetical. You could just as easily aoe farm with 5 more points in Frost. as opposed to arcane. The clear cast fishing thing is retarded.
I don’t understand why people complain about layering. First they complain about questing and ads being too hard that require you to team up with other people and make friends. Now they complain about people doing the complete opposite and going into layers where there is practically nobody because they’re much better at the game than they are.
43-46 might be rough. At worst do some quests in Tanaris. From 46 if you can get a Maraudon group & get the Scepter - you can grind Borers in Mara 46-51(52).

Any Horde suggestions for the early stages? Don't really think going to Duskwood and Wetlands is very viable at level 20 something on a PvP server.
Stephen Zerbe probabaly quillboar camps in the barrens there's tons of them and very dense with varying levels of camps
Stephen Zerbe oh but I forgot they have casters.. hmm the goblins in northeastern barrens probably good then as well as lion packs
I New you would make it bro keep the good work up
Alot of these early spots were really only ally specific, any suggestions for Horde farming? I really only know of the farmers in hillsbrad
don't bother aoe leveling atm, all spots are full and ur exp/h will not be better or only the same as questing

How to level as a level 60
Sorry for this question, what addon do you use for the cast bar?
A much more useful video would have been alternate grinding spots.
this guide is pretty useless
Great video dude!
Great vid, Punkrat
from 44 to 52 you can solo AoE ZF gy (750 xp per mob at 44 / 400-500 at 51) no problem with other mages :D
You can start earlier but at 44 u wont have problems killing patrol
Nice Tipps mate
Aoe farming with Flamestrike involves Ignite+Shatter, so remember to respec if you wanna try this, or you will be severely gimped while farming :P
This is super good but I didn’t see you mention jumping while frost nova and arcane explosion to increase the range via leeway
In the video towards the end what arson was that mage using where it actually said *clearcasting* across the screen?
Job has wanted me to work harder than ever at a time when I ACTUALLY wanna game. Haven't went hard on a game since Overwatch. I stopped OW when they changed Mercy.
But the big project is done. Time to game, boys.

I forgot about Fortnite Seasons 3-6. Not gonna lie, I tried to go pro on Xbox 🤣😭 I def only played 1 hr total S8-10. They lost me.
Before ow and flossnite it was Battlefield 1. Then reliving the glory days of both CSGO Halo via Halo MCC. Damn it was rough for competitive gaming for a while.

Why would you put 5/5 into frostbolt?
The only reason why Jokerd was able to do this is because he was ahead of the zerg and utilized layering to his advantage. If you try to farm like this now, you will have competition at every spot every single time. I have levelled from 1 to 40 and have never AoE farmed because someone is always there, and if by the grace of God no one is there... just give it a minute or two, someone will show up to ruin your fun. If you wait a few months, you might be able to do this, but until then you will have to level normally:(
The only reason you comment is to make yourself feel better about not finding a non obvious crowded spot
Yep, that exactly how he did it, cheated.
@@tarb1320 yeah except he didn't, didn't get a single mob tag and only started layering into lvl 58, so all of 1-58 works? and 58-60 works, it's just slower.... why are people saying this...
What addons shows the duration of your active effects such as polymorph as a bar that counts down?
Classic aura durations
What Addison are you using for the cooldowns on the right of your character ?
Why are you starting a "How to level" guide with a max level build?
Thought the same thing. Trying to see tips on how to level a mage and this clickbait video teaches me nothing.
great video man

Would frost ward be worth specking if you're body pulling?
Mages have been skipping improved cone of cold because unless you are actually Jokerd, you get SLAMMED by melee when you get in CoC distance
Xeno Entertainment backwalking doesn’t trigger leeway. When mobs get close, just walk backwards for a second to cast coc and then strafe away
I cant undertand how that can work in low levels with how low our mana stats are
hey @Punkrat should i use cone of cold rank 2? or stick to rank one
use the highest rank, cone of cold is one of your bigger aoe dmg spells
"How to level like Jokerd"
Completely changes Joker's spec.
exactly.
What do you expect it's punkrat
Where can I find jokers spec??
still plays the exact same
@@Punkrat you should still show his build too.
AoE grinding is amazing, BUT on herod, you can only do it at like 3AM otherwise there are 15 mages at every AoE spot. Most of these clips are people that were ahead of the lvling pack.
Just ask for a random to invite you to a different layer.
@@seanbailey8545 layers have been reduced to basically 1-2 fyi

frost tree good for everything? bcs i like to do instas too so just wondering what talent tree should i focus on
Frost is really good for both single target and aoe grinding but if you want to aoe grind then you have to spec for that. Since you’re a mage even if you’re not specced for single target your dps will be good enough for dungeons (up until engame).
So nervewracking doing stuff slightly similar to this on HC. Levelled a war to 60 on HC first time but when it came to mage I died 3 times before I got a char to 60.
Thanks Punk. I tried to make a toon on Faeruna (sp?), but the wait was just too crazy. GL.
Hey brother, what add-on actually tells you the timer that CoC has until the debuff is removed off an add?
it looks like weakauras to me
At what levels should I pick these talents? I.e. At what level should I drop a point in shatter? Im level 24 right now.
Why does nobody say in these guides what talents to get first? Yeah it's all well and good telling us what talents to use, but if I'm level 22 how do I know exactly what I'm putting my points into and what order
Frost Tree:
1. 3/3 elemental precision
2. 2/5 imp fb or 2/2 frost warding
3. 2/2 frost nova
4. 3/3 permafrost
5. 3/3 imp blizzard
6. 1/1 cold snap
7. 1/3 piercing ice
8. 3/3 frost channeling
9. 2/2 arctic reach
10. 1/1 ice block
11. 3/3 improved cone of cold
12. 3/3 piercing ice
After this its preference between finishing improved frostbolt, shatter, and ice shards. Obviously get ice barrier immediately at level 40. Once you get ice barrier go into the arcane tree:
Arcane Tree:
1. 2/2 arcane subtlety
2. 3/5 arcane focus
3. 5/5 clearcasting
Rest of your points are preference, I like to continue down arcane tree for improved counterspell (pvp purposes). If you don't care about pvp just throw the rest of your points into the frost tree (shatter, ice shards, improved frostbolt)
Hope this helps :)
@@khmarabroona Literally this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
@@wilson0213 np m8 good luck
I've just realized that i never had the permafrost talent... I'm level 51. I did ZF and AOE'd so much xD
What about gear that increases frost damage like the Azure set from tailoring? is stacking int and stam still better than those?
ah man, what a throwback. mages were all using layering exploits through changing groups to quickly level and then again for farming money quickly for their epic mounts. good times.
Do you plan on doing more class guides? its been helpful leveling alts
I prefer 5 points improve arcane missile (because pvp serv and hunter OP) + arcane subtlety 2 so 13/0/37
What addon is that where it shows the time of the slows and freezes?
Debufftimer
My dude, I'm waiting on my laptop to come Thursday, and you just made it so much harder to decide which class I want to play lmao. Preist, Mage or Warrior.
Ryan Deeter mage all day
Ryan Deeter Shaman
Same classes I'm deciding between. Lolz
all of them good
Ryan Deeter I went with a warrior.. and let me tell you what.. absolutely TERRIBLE solo lvling a warrior haha
Hearth Glen has elites, also the mobs are 55 to57 and the resit and fear you, beta is not the same as classic man
So what point are you trying to make but failing to make? Lmao
you can AoE farm the elites lol
