Florida TV News Anchor Arrested for Drunk Driving

- On December 5, 2018 Florida morning news anchor Farron Salley was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. This video presents the entirety of Salley's traffic stop, field sobriety testing, and her testy exchanges with law enforcement.
Remarkably, on February 8, 2019 Assistant State Attorney Ryan G. Myers filed a memo in State of Florida v. Farron La Trice Salley, stating that "Although there was probable cause to make an arrest, the evidence cannot prove all legally required elements of the crime alleged and is insufficient to support a criminal prosecution." And with that, all charges against Salley were dropped. A copy of that filing as well as Salley's breath testing refusal is included at the end of this video.
During the pendency of Salley's DUI case the WPBF anchor was suspended from her on-air duties, but when the charges against her were dropped Salley was quickly back in her former position. But the story doesn't end there. In late-June 2019 a few minutes of footage from her stop were published, resulting in WPBF "reassessing the impact of the incident." Shortly thereafter Salley resigned.
Scott Jones was first to break the story of Salley's arrest back in December 2018, and was first to publish a portion of this footage months before it became big news. As a son of a habitual drunk driver and alcoholic, I've learned to recognize the signs. She didn't do too well. Though not pass or fail, she sucked at the alphabet, was acting "drunk" the whole time. The officer asked her partner if she normally acts like a piece of shit for a reason. Her partner was smart enough to not answer. Correct answer: "Only after 4 drinks." Also, like the road portion of a driving test, they're not really testing if you can drive the car, but how you do it.

You know, police officers are people too. And unless you do something to threaten their lives or safety while you are interacting with them, they will probably treat you professionally with dignity and courtesy; and in some situations, they may even treat you with concern and compassion. Are some police officers rude and arrogant? Sure, but people like that are everywhere. Don't forget, you have bad days too, and sometimes it outwardly shows. Cut these officers a little slack, because you like it when others do it for you. At the end of the day, we need these people and the services they provide. And if you can't find it within yourself to appreciate these people, and their service to your community, at least treat them civilly when you do interact with them.
Let’s be clear. She got in trouble that night because of her attitude. She passed all her field tests with flying colours but was giving heavy attitude throughout.

I’m Swedish and live in the UK and nobody over here knows who she is that’s for sure. I really don’t think she was that off in terms of her attitude and demeanour though. A bit cocky maybe but she obviously felt victimised and targeted. After all, that cop really took his liberties with that sobriety test and it was sooo obvious he only did it to show her who‘s boss and teach her a lesson. Swede Potato Pie, I think it’s because we have way too many deaths from drinking and driving. I have read multiple times on here people writing that the US has a huge issue with gun violence, perhaps. But, I’ve had more family, friends, acquaintances, tragically die due to drunk people behind the wheel. It’s sadly a rampant issue.
All charges were dropped but after her employer saw the video they came to the agreement that she should leave. She dug her own hole.
Had she simply spoken to the police like human beings she almost certainly wouldn't have been fired.

@@waleswideman1 they did but it looks to me from the report that she refused. I'm not sure I read it correctly but I believe the case was ultimately dismissed.
I've watched a couple of sobriety tests and she did poorly and her demeanor probably threw the cop off. At that point you cannot argue with them. It's just be nice play along and you'll have the option to dismiss in court.
It's staggering how many people don't seem to know what to do in these situations. They are shocked that it happened to them.

She should’ve been released way before this point with whatever citation the officer was going to give her. I would be the first person to come to a officers need in help but my opinion it became a power trip by the officer and he can not allow himself to get to that point.

@@kutykutyka she was drunk that is why she was arrested and she failed several test. The officer clearly saw this as they are trained to give these test and look for ques to see if you passed or not. an example of this is clearly being incapable to follow orders.

People are as hard headed as those making the comments here, probably including me :) That's not really against the law anywhere. Everyone likes the word please , no one likes orders. I could give my wife an order and see what happens, I might have to ask you to let me move in with you. It's not a surprise that orders are hard to follow.
As for the tests, stand on one foot in the dark right after someone sticks a strong flash light in your face and see if you can look at your toes and start counting. Small wiggle, maybe even having to put the foot dawn for a sec, would it prove that you're wasted or would it show that you don't ever do balance exercises at home? Most sober people wouldn't do a perfect job at that. By the way, to keep a good balance your head and eyes should be up and level looking into the distance. That is why they ask you to look down at your toes, that makes the test a lot harder.Which is fine. If you fall over doing that you're obviously messed up. Again, she did better than some sober people in that test.That's just what I think.We're talking, I'm not here to argue.She was not drunk according to the end results of the investigation at the end of the video.

Shelby Finley You don’t pass or fail field sobriety tests, they’re designed so the officer can observe how the person can handle one or more tasks. She kept moving her head during the first test. She couldn’t walk heel to toe in the second one, she stopped the first time and then didn’t pause long enough the second time for the alphabet, her motion was not fluid on the touch your nose one, and she didn’t look down at her toes for the one leg stand (and lost balance a little bit).
