- In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart work on their chateau "gîte à la ferme" to get it ready for their first guests of the season. Will their holiday rental be ready in time? Stuart does some refinishing of the bathroom tiles, Patrick installs some lighting, and he also begins creating a ciel de lit (bed crown) for the master bedroom in the gîte. They also share their recent visit to some local French brocantes.

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, rain is always welcome especially in the early start of a new season. Rain does what hose or watering can will never achieve! My mother use to say, rain never holds me back from going out, I have a rain coat and umbrella, yes, off she goes. It depends on the Country you are living in, it can be most pleasant to be out shopping, then again, it can just be as wonderful at home. I do not think I would enjoy an open air brocante, but we are all different. I am sure the gite will be finished on time as you have not disappointed in the past with all your projects! Love seeing the dogs in the vlog. You will figure it out how to attach the fabric to the headcrown. The wall looks much better now the branches are gone. It's never nice to go to a brocante when It's raining. You get cold and It's not so good for your body. In winter we take Hot chocolate with rum and wipped cream....so delicious 😊 Crêpes or as we call them -pannekoeken- are eaten a lot in the Netherlands. There are so many variations....with apple, banana, bacon, cheese, minced spicy meat and many more combinations. My favorite is with minced meat..... Weather here is also not that nice. Some day It's shinny 14 degrees, then 2 or 3 days raining and cold. But I treasure the good days.😊...hugs 🥰😘

I like that you keep it real. Too many youtubers seem to make up "content" for views, and it gets a bit forced. Besides filming only fair weather is boring. You are wize to not shop for consumptions sake alone. Better to save till that next time when you find more than you'd hoped for.
Amber is so cute, one ear down and one carried over lol, the rains this time of year mean everything to the season up ahead, let it rain guys, and fill the wells, water the trees and lawns! I'm curiois how you'll work out that draping project. It seems to me those little metal loops would work to fasten hooks on, the kind finger hooks used in pinched and sewn deep pleats with one of those pleating bands (whatever they're called in English/French, the term evades me). Google window treatments and look at the illustrations and you'll see what I mean. Nobody will see the covered top, only from the bed underneath, and if you just run a loose stitch and rouche a whole width of fabric together and tack it with a staple gun, it will look great with the stapkes covered with a bit of cording. Draping complicated sashes and shapes is a whole area of expertise involving cutting on the bias, geometry and understanding the grain and hand of fabric, I'm certainly not the one to teach on that subject. But with that pretty pattern you don't need to get unnecessarily complicated. I thought that lamp was super cute with the green and white curtains, "cottage core" as the kids say these days (and isn't that a somewhat weird word?) I'd be very exited to stay there, I'm sure your guests will be very pleased!
I'm curious to see if that paint job on the tiles holds up longer than one season. If so please do tell what proclduct that is. I had the misfortune of painted tiles in my kitchen from previous dwellers that upon cleaning blistered like skin after a severe sunburn and it was a total b*tch to remove entirely, so I'd never dare, but on the other hand that was many years ago and perhaps progress has been made in the product department?
I have a bathroom in desparate need of freshening up...

Thank you, Jo! Actually, we only need the paint on the tile to hold up for one season, since we will be completely gutting and remodeling that bathroom next year with an all new shower. But, we will keep track of how well that holds up throughout the season. ❤️
@@JourneytotheChateau Aha! Now that makes alot of sense! It does make a difference so it'll be interesting to see if it hold up to showers. Meanwhile I need to remove layers of old painted wallpaper and either paint, or chose new wallpaper on my own. Problem is my taste is alot nicer than my wallet *understatement*... And the ceilings high!

So maybe I'll find inspiration to paint a mural or print my own paper this season. I'm an old artist so it's doable, I'm just so sick of my own environment having not travelled since 2019 which is some kind of personal record. Reminds me of an old stand-up line of Woody Allen's in the late 60's describing his domestic rut: " My toaster burns my toast and either keeps it or shoots it across the room, my sun lamp rains on me, and when I talk into my tape recorder it goes" I KNOW I KNOW 🙄"

Random thoughts about new bed crown: center section flush to ceiling, stretch cream or toile fabric edge to edge and tack. Or, use fabric strips of cream and toile to basket weave a center piece adding dimension. Use cording to finish off interior edges. For exterior edges drape toile and pleat using upolstery tacks/nails/buttons on 3 sides. Affix decorative trim or cording to front edge. Check upolstery and/or fabric shops for ideas? Improvising adds fun to a challenging task.😚😊🤗💕

Our instructional videos are part of our Friday at the Chateau series, which we will get back to after the kitchen renovation. We don't have time to explain processes on everything we do at the chateau, and sometimes we are just learning as we go along. If you want to see a specific DIY process on something that we have done, let us know and we will add it to our list of Friday at the Chateau episodes. We may have chickens in the future, and we would like to have an animal sanctuary, perhaps for donkies. Thank you!
