  • In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart welcome friends and patrons Martin and Margaret back to the chateau. Martin volunteers to take on the chateau moat by clearing it all out and discovering what secrets it may be hiding. Patrick finds an old copper printing plate buried in the garden of the chateau gîte, and Stuart and Margaret get out the printmaking supplies to make relief art prints from this original 19th century engraving by French engraver and illustrator Charles Barbant. They also make a shopping trip to a local Emmaus, and Patrick and Stuart find and return some local dogs that had gone missing.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, what a most pleasant video. So much happened!! First and foremost the discovery of the antique printing plate. I was astonished. Good grief what a find. Margaret seems to be a wonderful person as well. Preparing the printing press and just enough ink to show the exquisite Paris Opera House. What more do you want?? Martin did a grand job in clearing the moat, unbelievable how grasses can take over. All the dogs standing up looking through the gate was priceless. They sure like to keep an eye on developments at the Chateaux. Finding the stray dogs and getting them inside was a miracle. Just as well the owner drove around making enquiries otherwise you would not have been any the wiser. Good job, well done and got them back to the much relieved owner. It seemed you had little time for touch down but all in all the discovery of the plate print was unique and awesome. That can become a piece for exhibition somewhere, maybe the grand salon where it will get the attention it deserves with a hanging portrait of the same print. Things sure are happening at a fast rate now. Take care, many blessings, kind regards. E

Dear Patrick and Stuart, Martin made the circular moat absolutely stunning. The stone walls are shockingly completely intact. Your babies peaking through the gate is the cutest thing I ever saw. Many years ago I did etchings on zinc plates, using acid baths to etch into the plate. I loved the process but it became difficult when I no longer had the huge roll printer, but I see Margaret’s portable one does the trick beautifully. What a beautiful print. It’s really a treasure to have found the plate the way you did, and end up with a beautiful old work of art. I felt your joy for being able to return the dogs to their owner. It is emotional. By the way, the farmhouse kitchen is beautiful. You have made it the prettiest guest house. See you on Friday. Stay well. xx

Omg how wonderful the dogs came to you! What an amazing feeling to be able to help your locals and return that lady's beloved dogs, I too know how gutting it is when your dog is lost, honestly wow! And boy isn't it lovely to see that moat cleaned up!? 😍 If you can get help to repair what needs to be done so you can fill it up with water for summer that will be beautiful but most of all really handy for wildlife, pollinators, and extra irrigation in case of a dry spell, like it's great to have an outlet for overflow when you get these torrential rains! It really makes the place look very well looked after too. Your garden blooms are beyond stunning!!!
The size of those roses abd Iris.... And all of them pupps in a row 😍
I'm so jealous of that printing press, ooh been wanting one for ages, but they're so expensive... Fantastic find "in the bush" I mean, what are the odds of that?! Brilliant to be able to make prints! That's a piece of art with a good story for sure!
Get a nice gold frame at brocante and have it framed with a colored passe-partout and it will pop on any wall (or several guestrooms for example, you can match the colored paper to the room scheme and include the info in your rooms pamflet of information, B&B guests love that sortof thing!)
I'm still ripping down wallpaper on my own, with busted hands, much more work than I expected but the light pouring in for every panel of the dingy dark grey taken down is glorious and keeps me going! 💪 Loved tidays vlog guys, good luck with your guests now, see you soon! Love/Jo 💕🕊️😘

Will you be able to maintain it with everything else you have on the go? That print is spectacular. Well done with the production Stuart. That was wonderful that you were able to keep the dogs until their owner could collect them. Having a beloved pet going missing is heartbreaking. I couldn’t stand it. So looking forward to seeing the latest renovations. Having a home that you love and enjoy is so very important. Have been through major renovations for a fairly large home in the past, but now in a small rental, which I love, and the decor and comfort is every bit as important to me. Home is home wherever you’re at peace and happy. ❤

I'd be in that mote helping , if I was there. It looks so much better and with winter coming it will help with any excess water . I love doing that sort of thing, and what an amazing find . I love the print too 😍

The print turned out to be a stunner! Martin is a very hard worker or just mad or a bit of both! The moat looks great!

It’s probably all been said before but what a week! Cutest line up of pups I’ve ever seen, gorgeous healthy looking roses, a friend indeed (or two) doing a magnificent job of clearing the awesome ancient moat and assisting printing a fantastic historic plate, rehoming two lost pets and getting great Air B&B results!! Wow, when you see it all listed like this, it is a mighty satisfying week all round wouldn’t you say? 💐🖼🐕‍🦺✈️👏❤️

So glad you didn't toss the printing plate by mistake! The moat is gorgeous. M&M are amazing people to help you. I'm sure the pups owners were so thankful that you saw them. Good luck with your gite rental this weekend. How awesome to get it rented so fast😉

I fully understand about having a plan and following it, otherwise you end up finishing nothing. Oh my gosh, the dogs all lined up looking through the gates was precious!!! Nice find of the plate Patrick! It was great that you could actually make a print Stuart along with Margaret...a keepsake for sure! Good job on clearing the moat Martin....it looks great and no doubt we're all looking forward to see it fill up with water one day perhaps? Fantastic photograhpy Stuart! That was so good that the dogs found you, couldn't be a better place to wander into!

Our dogs look so pretty lined up. Adorable. That we could get prints of the plate after being in the garden is truly amazing. Martin is a miracle. We have to see if there is a bottom to the moat. After that is sealed, we might be able to fill it with water.
You are right that the dogs found us so we would get them home. What a blessing to being able to return dogs to their owners. Hugs from Colombe. ❤😊❤

Hi Patrick and Stewart 🙌. What an amazing find. This will now be something you add to your renovation. As is now part of your find and history you both create.
400 years! And then make a find like that that has no place in your place. But! Maybe it did.
Wonderful work to start removing the brambles and leaf fall. A bridge with gates always said a moat. You’ll probably find some sink holes either side as it’s still done today.
With the dogs! What goes around comes around ❤️
    Love you both! 🫶

What a change in the moat! It looks fabulous!
And that print etching you found! What a find! I immediately thought Andy Warhol! Do a series in different colours. It would look amazing! Perhaps you can source complementary prints of other buildings by the same artist. A great dinner table conversation piece.
Congrats on the airbnb booking. Looks like you’re on your way after all your hard work! I look forward to seeing the final project.
And get some rest you two. You look a bit weary Patrick! A bientot♥️♥️

I bet that sweet little beagle was the escape ringleader! I had beagles for 30 years. Now I'm the accidental owner of a Sheltie whose herding instincts keep her right at my heals. I find it a relaxing change from my beagle escape artists.
Was amazed to see those beautiful stone walls emerge from all the greenery. A brave man to take on that task but the result is lovely.

What a fun episode! The prints you are making might be offered to visitors along with your jams and jellies. If I were a guest, I would definitely purchase one as a keepsake. Martin is a treasure!! What a job! And the moat looks wonderful. Thank you also for showing some footage of your roses. I love and grow roses and you cannot ask for a more beautiful flower. All good wishes to you …. I’m looking forward to seeing what you cook for your guests this weekend. Maybe you’ll share? Love from Georgia! 🥰
