- Renegade Monstrous is the only other true combiner in from the toy line and in some respects is a much better figure than Puzzler. The main problem I have is that the bots that form the arms are so loose and floppy that they are kind useless. Sadly that's all due to the figures being over 20 years old.

In the Machine Robo line, he was given a lot of dark paint and plastic for colors. He was also known as Devil Satan 6, and was one of the recurring bad guys.
I was going through a box in a local shop full of various Transformers and GoBots. I found a complete Leader 1 and various parts of Puzzler. And I kept coming across a bunch of weird monster things that I now realize are components of Monstrous. Now I kind of want to go through that box again and see just how many components were in there and complete. I definitely saw either Southclaw or Weird Wing if not both.

Man can you imagine if say zeta toys or tfc toys remade this today. Wow it would be amazing.

I recently traded quite abit TF for this guy and boy was he worth it! Except my version has 2 South Claws instead of a Weird Wing here but in these times I'm lucky to even be able to re-acquire this guy at all in 2021 because he's so hard to find now. Back in 1987 I only ever bought both leg and chest guys and they all got swiped via school. Truly a unique and bizarre combiner and even better in the Machine Robo anime Devil Satan 666!!!!
O yeah a third party company needs to remake and update this team of bots and the other car combiner. Also the power suit combiner if we could get all these guys updated these days would be awesome.

When you got that lot, was that deep blue guys one arm's/leg mini tab half broken off and vulnerable to sliding away with the arm guy on it?
That was oddly one of my favorite combiners growing up. It was weird, but easy to grab and play with.

This team appeared in Beast Wars Uprising and fought the Micromaster version of Devastator.
Funny thing, if you follow the TFCC fiction posted on Facebook, they revealed that the Monsterous team was a group on Predacons on Axiom Nexus who were recruited by Cy-Kill during his visit there, and he upgraded them with GoBot systems and a Puzzler combiner process. So these are officially Transformers characters now!

These toys are supposed to be monster-themed vehicles, originally in Japan they were known as Devil Invaders.
Their individual transformations aren't "monsters", but more like "ships"... ...sort of like seen in Turbografx16 game "Cyber Core". They fly out of a carrier in the japanese anime.

This guy looks pretty cool, would actually make a pretty awesome re-release if anyone ever decided to make an updated version.

when very little, i often went to my city GiG shop and there i was fascinated by those strange transformers-like creatures. really simple in look but strange to see near other transforming toys. So for years i thought they were some new TF not yet disclosed to the public through the cartoon series. Beh, having not seen the GoBots series 'til the end, i didn't knew those were GoBots and not regular TFs.. but i always thought to buy them, one day or another :P A shame the toyshop closed in the meanwhile :P

The alt modes are actually space vehicles for all of them. Southclaw should be the left arm, his name being a play on "Southpaw" meaning some who is left handed.
This one's not so bad, the individual modes would never pass as beasts, but that combined mode is awesomness. Didn't figure the wings fitting into the deco so niceley. Cheers for this review. I'mma look him up on ebay when I can.
I had him as a kid, and I never figured out what those things were supposed to be, especially the feet monsters. But I will give this set credit, I like how the feet and arm robots are very similar, yet have unique transformations.
I got caught stealing the whole set as a kid🤣...I got my ass whooped..my parents had to pay twice as much for them...they gave them to me 6 months later..it was worth it🤣

these are go-bots? i didn't know they did beast...things.
i like some of the robot modes, especially frightface and heart attack, they look kinda like old monster movie giant robots...

If there was actually a season finals of Challenge of the Gobots, there would've been one where the monster Renegades would've been actually agents sent by another being like Unicron in Armada. It's only an idea though.
nice review, though part of me keeps getting the impression you werent huge on the go-bots.
But as for the go-bots in general, it seems to me like they tried to...use more technically complex ideas for stylish and seemless transformations while transformers won with the idea of less is more, leaving more for the imagination...but thats just me!
Awesome review!!! I always wanted this set as a kid but when I had the money I couldn't find it and when I didn't have the money there he was. I did have puzzler though.

That Night Attack you have (the green guy) has an alt mode head that's from another figure...
if you research machine robo, they are suppose to monster robots and their japanese name is devil satan 6. if you see their japanese animation combination sequence its still one of the best animated combination scenes in japanese animation history.
Actually, these guys remind me more of Robeasts from Voltron than anything else.

Wow. This blew me away. I'm a combiner guy so this really tickled my fancy. South Claw's my fave, by the way. Those are knockout names.
best thing of this video is that I have fang when I was a kid and I never know what he was o what he does so now I know

I had the red arm, and my cousin had the purple arm. I never knew they were actual Go-Bots. I thought they were generic.
the best thing about this gobot gestalt is that the limbs are incredible retools. my only complaint is that Monstrous's colors pale in comparison to The Devil Satan Six; even DSS has a better name.

I have to disagree, the names of some of those figure are just plain wrong.
I mean, why would they call a character "Fangs" if he doesn't have a mouth?
His face is very stylized on the figure. The two red slashes are the fangs, and the red thing in the middle is a "Heart". He's some sort of vampire in the " Machine Robo" anime.
