Thanks everyone for watching! One quick edit; when I stated that the correct barrel profile for the CQBR is the Government profile, I did not mean to imply that there are no socom profile barrels in use on CQBR’s. There are definitely a number of MK18’s using cut-down socom barrels. What I meant to say is that the Gov’t profile is what is specified by Crane and (in my opinion) is more ideal.
The cut down barrels are standard M4 profile. The "replacement" barrels, mostly by FN, are factory 10.3" barrels in SOCOM profile. MARSOC was a late arrival joining SOCOM. The standard M4 profile barrels have had the front sight bases removed. The new, replacement SOCOM profile barrels never had front sight bases mounted on them. Knight's gave the USMC special pricing for the NT4 suppressors and sights, in exchange for fairly large contracts, wanting the USMC to use their products.
Cool channel, with original content and accurate information. The presenter speaks from experience, without being pretentious or just repeating second hand information
Good review. A couple observations... The DD RIS II is designed for the 6 o'clock rail to easily detach for the mounting of the M203 (if you happen to have a cut down SOCOM barrel).Taking this panel off does not interfere with the structural integrity of the rail. Also B5 had a contract for the Gen 1 Enhanced SOPMOD stock. It was identical to the LMT version with the exception of the LMT branding on the lever and it came in a blue bag and was known to be very tight fitting.
A standard M203 receiver is too long to mount to a MK18 RIS II. The front mounting bracket of the M203 extends past the handguard/barrel of the MK18, so there would be nothing to keep the launcher from simply sliding forward and off of the barrel. You need the longer M4A1 RIS II to mount an M203 receiver. The socom profile barrel does not change this; you can mount an M203 to a socom OR a Gov’t profile barrel anyway (assuming the barrel is long enough). Both Gen 1 sopmod stocks (LMT and B5) are correct and are issued. Mine is a B5.
The cuts in the barrel are only there to allow the rear of the M203 receiver to slide in over the barrel, then rearward towards the barrel nut. They have nothing to do with mounting or an anchor point.
What Inferior Rifles was trying to say is that the M203 receiver would slide forward off of the rail system as there is no forward anchor point, and that the rail is too short/ M203 receiver too long.
Marsoc also uses surefire rc1’s in fde and I’ve seen a few in black , Surefires are out there in use but NT4s are almost exclusively issued. So having a fde or back surefire would still be correct for this build.
I’m not sure how I came across this channel but you caught my attention with the “Cave State Customs”. I’m in the Springfield area as well (I live in Rogersville). I dig the videos brother and the numerous builds! Definitely subscribing!
I have a DD Mk18 upper on a Spikes lower, next clone i build will be a Mk12. The Mk18, Mk12, and what is referred to as "type A" rifles have a special place in my heart
Sexy rifle! My 2 cents: I think the CQD sling mount, especially the rear end plate is a Crane specific thing. it comes standard on Mk18 Mod0/18-1 built by crane. In fact the reference photos in the video 1:2910:29 and 15:43 that do have CQD end plates are all NSWC mk18's. For the rest of the SOCOM SOPMODs it's mostly just regular M4 endplate or other aftermarket end plates. Again it's just my two censts, I'm not saying you are wrong (I use CQD on my own build as well lol) but in terms of cloning SOCOM issued SOPMOD2 CQBR it's probably more kosher to use standard M4 endplate.
It depends on whether the CQBR was issued as just an upper, or as an “18-1” which was a complete rifle built by Crane. In short, if Crane provided the lower receiver then it would often come installed with a CQD end plate. If just an upper was delivered, they end user would utilize their M4A1 lower they had already been issued, meaning it would have a standard M4 end plate. Thanks for watching!
@@InferiorRifles I’m only mentioning this because it’s titled MARSOC CQBR in which case they are not a part of NSWC. Btw I’m so jelly about that Taupe NT-4

A chopped down socom profile barrel is indeed clone correct, there are decent amount of them in actual marsoc rifles. I have two example of complete uppers came out of marsoc armory and funny enough, the cqbr has a socom profile barrel and block 2 m4 has a m4 profile barrel.
I have both DD Mk18 and M4 block 2 which come with DD’s CHF GOV profile barrel . I felt relieved after watching 9holes review of M4 colt socom barrel VS DD’ gov barrel accuracy comparison test. It seems like we no longer have stick with clone correct barrel choices.
You can barrel mount a 203 on these. You remove the bottom rail section and the forward rail mount is actually mounted to the flash hider. Level zero heroes had some pictures of a Raider running a mk18 that way👌🏻 Also Raider buddy currently is issued the surefire vampire lights, ngal, and two new lpvos. One from leupold and then the atacr👌🏻 those are able to be put on either their mk18 or block ll
A standard m203 receiver is too long to be mounted on a cqbr, as the locking tabs on the upper part of the handguard are located too far back to reach the screw holes on the M203. Using a barrel clamp around a standard flash hider would not work either, as the launcher would simply slide forward and off the gun since nothing would limit its forward travel. This is why the GL/SSC exists, because it provides the extra length needed to mount a standard M203 using the locking tabs on the rail itself. Barrel mounting an M203 to a CQBR would require either a redesigned flash hider/QD mount, or a shorter M203 receiver (all of which are possible). But none of those are issued parts, hence why you never see M203’s on issued CQBR’s.
@@InferiorRifles it could of been a mod o. This was a probably 2011/12 time line. But they was running a barrel mounted 203 on his 10.3 gun whether it was a mod o or 1 I can’t remember. @@rogueconcepts7404 the Mk18 DD rail is not designed to mount an M203 that way. The whole point of the rail was to allow the M203 to be mounted and still free-float the barrel. The model you were looking undoubtedly an original CQBR upper that still used the KAC RAS handguard, which is designed to have the bottom rail be removed to mount a 203.
@@rogueconcepts7404 also, the only part of a 203 you can shorten is the actual grenade tube/barrel. The mounting system remains the same length. I've used them before we switched to the HK M320s.

I think quad rails are terrible. They’re usually compared to cheese graiters haha. I would take a nice slim m-lok rail over another quad rail any day. But that’s just my opinion!
I’ve got a DD RIS II and SLR Mlok rail. They both have their merits. Piece of advice, if you get mlok make you you get a full 1913 rail at he 12o clock position. I kinda prefer the Ris over Mlok because it’s practically welded on the upper and I also like the fact that accessories are faster to take off, as opposed to needing an Allen wrench and loctite. Plus, those screws and nuts are tiny (that’s what she said). It’s a good idea to carry a few spares. Yes 1913 rails are old school, but I like the QD option, solid lockup and less parts to lose and carry. Yes their heavier, but with that comes durability.
