Finally finished working on Caravan! Definitely a tough track, but super fun to play! The solo is not 100% true to the original, but I tried my best to keep it somewhat close. I certainly enjoyed giving this style of playing a try though!
great playing, but i have a few tips as a seasoned jazz drummer, and tutor. 1. watch your touch. the whiplash arrangement of caravan is a fast samba feel. even thought it's a fast tempo, there's still a lot of colour and dynamics to the groove, so the ride pattern you were playing was very loud and aggressive all the way through(like metal :)). in general i'd work on you dynamics and feeling where you can add more tension by getting louder of softer. 2. try playing at a slower tempo, so you can really internalize the patterns you're doing. for example, the bridge/b section is swung. the ride pattern (like saying 'walk the dog' with dog landing on beat 1) feels a little unclear and rushed. i'd work on using trad grip for your snare hits, it gives you a lot more control over where you place hits, which is super helpful for playful swung and at that fast a tempo. also particulary doing the trombone solo, and during your own solo you tend to loose a lot of the swing, which can make it sound messy and . if you listen to even the drums recorded for the film, there's a lot more swing when Andrew breaks into the b section. you can achieve this by letting the stick bounce on the ride, it seems like you were focused a lot on hitting every note with your whole arm. i'd recommend practicing this at a slower tempo, so you can internalise it. this will also help you keep at the tempo you're going for, and means you can add more snare hits. you seems to have a lot of experience with metal, because your rolls are extremely clear, and you clearly have really good bass drum technique. and more importantly some good creativity, which it takes to interpret a solo like that. can't wait to see how your playing grows. take care :)
It’s interesting how you see these young cats on social media and many of them are all about showing off their chops but couldn’t play a gig to save their lives. One in particular has made himself very social media famous. His only gig video is a nightmare. This young man can handle his business and you can see it, hear it, and feel it. Tyler gets it. Congrats young man.
holy crap this is the most accurate cover of the solo ive seen on youtube besides the one with the 16 year old drummer back from 2018, but the funny thing is a metal sounding drum kit covering a jazz song 🤣
Halfway through when doing the octopus-esque obliteration of the cymbals I actually chuckled out of incredulity and awe. I've been somewhat dead inside the whole day (perhaps week), and acting toward other people like I gave a crap, but this actually shocked me. I hope your spark stays strong, it is a bright one. Greetings from Spain.
Amazing cover. Watched the movie (kinda) recently and felt so much energy and exhaustion from it. But seeing the same played with no fancy cuts looks even more insane. Excellent job!
Holy crap. Dude that is insanely impressive. You do sooooo well. Although I don't play the drums, i love the drums in caravan so much. All the rhythm that goes into it puts me beyond words. Great job!
MUCH PROPS ! As a fellow drummer, I can't imagine the time it took to get this down. Very cool how many different styles you can play. Always enjoy your TOOL covers, and keep up the awesome work.
Sooooooo. As a fellow drummer that’s been playing a long time…. Wow. Excellent job dude. Like holy crap. How old are you?!?! A couple things….your snare drum sounds REALLY good. I can go on for an hour about how many times you surprised me with how good your playing was. Only thing that really stood out to me was during the solo where the double time swing is being played on the ride…you just settled for single hand buzz roll….I know I get it, it’s stupid hard lol but otherwise the freakin skills you have at your age. Wow.
great, every note on point, outstanding mixing, just one observation: i would recommend you listen to a bit of bebop, reggae and latin jazz, practicing those genres will give you elegance and softness, frankly in my opinion that’s all you need everything else sounds like you’ve mastered already 👍🏾, greetings from venezuela
^^^^This^^^^ If you want to perform for a living, you have to be able to play ALL styles with a great deal of confidence and skill. Drummers are a dime a dozen - playing professionally is a HARD HARD HARD career choice. With some work, you might make it!
@@PartyOf8Please thanks for making me revisit this marvelous video, watching it again makes me feel like i have to also remark his rudiments skill, very solid drumming, i would love to have him at the recording room
People gotta stop making jokes in these comments... this is genuinely amazing work. You should be so proud man you knocked it outta the park! Did so well on the snare👏
I am not a drummer. But I watched your video from beginning to end. It's a success, man. Continue to delight the audience with your great work. With great greetings from Russia. Very cool, brother.
i am such a big fan of your playing i am also a drummer , i started out with a ludwig accent drive, i listen to your vids everyday and am a subscriber too
Wow! This cover is totally amazing. Diving deep into the atmosphere of the composition. You had also prepared a great camera setting (including top and worm views). Super cool 😎 Terrence Fletcher: "... We've got Buddy Rich here."

The fact he’s smiling the entire time particularly in the transition to the solo shows his skill and love for drumming 🔥
300 likes and no comments? Let me fix that

His dad is probably peeking at the door realizing he just lost his son to Caravan.

Dude that snare sounds killer! Amazing drumming as well, very impressive!!!
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
@tyvisser what's the name of the snare head?
You earned the part.
Bro your not Fletcher 💀💀💀
NOT QUITE MY TEMPO.

when i was listening to caravan i thought
how is this even possible? no way someone actually played this
you proved me wrong
besides a couple of parts he honestly did amazing asl. Some people improvise a lot of the song
8:56 the fill is so clean it's impeccable
That’s actually one of the easier fills in the song. Just some double bass action. Pretty straightforward. But yeah it’s solid

that snare omg

You nailed it bro. Amazing dynamics and doubles! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Awesome. 👏🏼
8:10 your fast sustained single stroke roll on the snare drum like Andrew Neiman is excellent. Sounds great to my ears. 👍😁🥁😄
How this only has 2k views right now on is nuts. This deserves proper attention this is talent right here
had a bit more recogniziation now

I got tears on my eyes after solo…. Great
That was absolutely amazing!
There's something about the syncopated pattern of kick during the main groove of the song, it's just so good I could listen to it all day
Truly amazing! Bravo
That may have been the most incredible thing i've ever seen BRAVO!!!!
Well, well, we got a drum monster right here, sir. Well done, mate. Greetinga from Brazil. Props

I’ve seen many videos of caravan but few people attempt the final solo, brilliant job, well done
Simplemente increíble bro! Una máquina 💪🏻👏🏻

Nice version. Great job. Love the added double kicks
Wooooow 😮😮😮 it reminds me of the movie scene. best cover ever
Bro is also doing that slowmo part from the movie. Very nice cover mate you're a legend
Amazing. I close my eyes and just listen to the music then compare to the original and i can say you are indeed in sync with the tempo.
Duuude this is actually so cool and crazy impressive 👏👏👏👏
I don’t remember Neiman having a double bass pedal
he doesn’t, the person writing the song did and they assumed nobody would notice his drumming doesn’t match entirely with the song
@@infenrotv yea I know, it was a joke 😂cool info tho, I had no idea

This is the most accurate cover I’ve ever heard. Great job 👏👏👏
it's not very accurate. it's like a metal drummer trying to play jazz. (still fire in its own right though)
this is super satisfying keep it up man!
