Celine will forever take top spot for that sustained F5 that shot out like a laser followed by a true smattering of agility hitting a G5 3x times then a run that was so precise and fast it needs to be replayed just to catch all of the notes she is hitting. You can hear at the end she repeats the ascending run like an echo. It's true genius. The fact that she is able to be THAT agile that high up is just mind blowing.

Actually she made herself look foolish the spotlight wasn’t on her she should’ve cherished that moment in history to even be able to sing with her rather than try to out sing her show some respect and let the queen shine Celine
Kelly Clarkson is the best! She crushed this song's climax note a couple of times...She belted and sustained G#5 on her 2013 Grammy Awards performance of the song and also the iconic F6/F#6 Whistle note on her American Idol performance
For years, people having been shading Celine Dion for her performance at the Divas show, like she disrespected Aretha Franklin by showing what she's capable of. But she absolutely killed that performance. No one that talented should have to dim their shine when the music gets into them.
@@Zarumaans im a mariah fan but i absolutely think that celine SLAYED THAT and maybe mariah just thought that celine was challenging everyone idk but celine KILLED IT 😍😍😍
One thing about Aretha's original version is that she didn't sing this song to just show off - as amazing as some of these renditions are vocally, so many people oversing this song just to prove they can. They end up losing the emotion and meaning that Aretha was able to give, especially in the climax. She could have easily added a bunch of G5's and more, probably with significantly more ease than a number of singers here - but even when she did, she knew how to carefully utilize and balance both her incredible vocals AND emotive power in order to tell the story of this song. That's something that's much more difficult to duplicate.
I think this is overanalyzing. Yes aretha gave soul to each of her performance. But to say these singers sing to show off is not corrrect. They were singing the climax and to carry the song, usually if not always, singers sing higher and higher. U would notice aretha also does the same at the end of the clip where she is singing for Obama.
I really like Demi Lovato's, theirs is my favorite not because of it was perfectly and extremely powerfully done but the way they sing it and the emotion was so great. Tori Kelly and Jojo are great, they sounded amazing.
Amber Riley slaying her version and then reacting to Alex Newell slaying their version as well is my favourite moment. I love the other singers too though!
Aretha's performance at the Kenedy center honors for Carol King is one to be studied as an overall top to bottom steller performance. Clearly, her showmanship had been cultivated over decades but it's something in particular about that performance that just stuck out more. It was like she knew it was the last peak performance she would give.
@@NguyenLam-cv5nt sorry dear but an a example of a strained voice is when it is not controlled and it peaks or reaches its limits wherein you can hear it as a very thin, ringing sound and doesn’t sustain. Whereas JONA, has a perfect Glissando of G5 note. It sustains and doesn’t break. It is big and open. Try to educate yourself dear.
I guess. Sometimes its more than just shouting out the note. I'm her 60s and 70s performances of the song aretha avoided oversinging the song. I give this to Kelly though
Celine would always earn the top spot for me. She sang it like she owns the song. She has her solo studio version which is always my favorite. And her Divas 98 version is a level-up version with that G5 and amazing run. Literally, she made Aretha run for her money 😂😂😂
yes, right !,after all those years, ppl still butthurt about Celine singing that part like another queen infront of the queen of soul, while the queen herself loved it.
Surprised that Australia’s Vanessa Amorosi wasn’t on the list. She’s got a crazy range, Aretha would be impressed. The video is out there of her performing this song in the US.

Agree amazing!!!
Mariah was probably the only one who didn't enjoy that vocal 🤭
@@Zarumaans Agree. It all comes down to insecurity
yes this is huge celine dion how she hits this F5 and then comes on this piercing G5 .. amazing
And it sounded like it was nothing for her! Demi sounded good too.
That Celine run took me out!!! 🔥
if u listen closer we can hear she repeated the run too.
Man, Celine Dion vocals were on fire on Divas 98. Her belts and runs were unparalleled.
They still are
Céline is a master belter.
Tori and Jojo slayed. Kelly's F5 was really nice. Celine was amazing. Natalie's G5>>>
Vanessa Amorosi has the best version of this song by far.

She wins for me

celines f5 was crystal clear omg
CELINE AND KELLY! 😳🔥
demis g5 😭😭 so good
Jenifer Hudson, Céline Dion y Demi 😻
There's no comparison to Celine's magnificent voice. Her perfect pitch, clarity, power and tone are unmatched
Kelly Clarkson's sounded very natural and more like the original.
Celine slayed the most like she did slay that F5 and G5 note right in front of legend aretha franklin. And yet she did slayed it for aretha.
People really underestimate Celine vocal abilities
The Celine moment next to Aretha will always be legendary.. 😍
But what makes it legendary is that she performed it infront of Mariah Carey.
Somethin bout Demi impresses the fuck outta me. It’s just 🤯🤯🤯
Exactly. I 100 percent agree.
Demi and Céline were just wow
I’ll never forget Kelly hitting the F#6

Celine, Kelly, Demi and Tori 🔥🔥🔥
Tori, Kelly, The Celine Dion, Jona, and Amber are the best. The take off was really effortless and resonant.

Celine Freakin Dion owned it!
Amanda Mena slayed it with only 15 years old

Honestly thought Vanessa amorosi would be here, imo she has the best version. Better than the others by miles, only second to the original !
Pls do this for dangerous woman by Ariana Grande..

Kelly Clarkson in American Idol sang F#6 🥰

TORI KELLLYYYY!!! that F#5 and G5 is so clean!

that were F#5 & G#5
it was pure autotune
Kelly F5 is so beautiful. There is no pitchy sound in that note at all.
Neither Patti nor Chaka knew the lyrics! 😂😩😂😩 Love them!
Patti always making up her own words and Chaka always hiding the words somewhere slick 😂
The versions with G5 sound more pleasant to me
