My Favorite Best Of / Greatest Hits / Compilation Albums

- Best Of / Greatest Hits / Compilation albums serve an essential musical function. It's a great way to investigate an unfamiliar band. Sometimes all you may want to own is the bands "best" material. And since a compilation will cherry pick throughout an artists' career, they can be a great fascinating listen. Here are approx. 50 of my all-time favorite compilation albums. Thanks Glen for this great request a couple of hours ago.
Thank you, Alan, for making an excellent video based on your viewer Glen's great idea. I'm amazed that you were able to narrow down your favorite compilation albums to approximately 50. Selecting my favorites from your picks proved challenging because I love or really like so many of your choices. For me, "Hot Rocks" is #1 and "Decade" comes in at #2. I would drive myself crazy if I even attempted to rank the rest, but I think that the ones by the following artists are extra special: The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, Leonard Cohen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull and Dire Straits. Among the offerings by less well-known artists, I think the albums by Joan Armatrading, Al Stewart, Grin, The Nice and Warren Zevon are also great, from start to finish. As Warren Zevon's anthology was released a few years before what is arguably his masterpiece, "The Wind," I think that --- ideally --- Warren's fans would do well to have both albums, the anthology and "The Wind." Granted, "The Wind" was Warren's swan song, having been created soon after he was diagnosed with cancer and released just a couple of weeks prior to his death. But it is too excellent to be an exercise in sentimentality. Still, no matter how many times I hear the album track "Keep Me in Your Heart," I can't help but get teary-eyed.
Thanks - Yes The Wind is a very special album. Of course, the context is pretty important - making an album when you're dying and knowing it'll be your last statement. Pretty profound, although seems to me only a few songs touch on what he was going through. Keep Me In Your Heart though - wow - that spells it all out. Also nice that buddies like Springsteen and Petty helped him out on his swan song.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow The bad boy that Warren Zevon was for practically all of his life would never let him fill an album with only songs that convey sadness and emotional pain. Hence, on "The Wind," songs such as "Keep Me in Your Heart," "Numb as a Statue," and "Rub Me Raw" are balanced by upbeat songs such as "Dirty Life and Times," "Disorder in the House," and "The Rest of the Night." "The Wind" enabled Warren to give voice to his feelings about dying, but it also let him tell listeners that his hellion ways should not be forgotten. I agree with you about how nice it was that so many of his high-profile pals and lesser-known but acclaimed musician friends joined him on his final album.
Hi Alan The Who album is so cool. I like the cover. And the animation inside. I had that album by Jefferson Starship Red Octupus, i like the single which was lifted off it called Miracles. 1975 was the year of release. The Jam i was into in the late 1970s early 1980s. Living in a Commonwealth country New Zealand, we had mostly British music on our radio. So the Jam got good airplay. I like and owned their album Sound Effects from 1980 on vinyl. The song That's Entertainment is a good track from the album. I own boxed sets of David Bowie. You are right, listening to Bowie will get you to your destination real quick. I like Joan Armatradings cool music. Love and Affection from 1976 is a great laid back tune of hers. Can't go wrong with Blondie Alan. I like Leonard Cohen too. Love Grand Funk, a favorite 1970s group of mine. Can't get enough of your Love is a rocker of theirs. Yes Buddy Holly was prolific in his output before he died young. My mother liked Buddy Holly in the 1950s. Love the Pretenders , and Chrissie Hynde. Great collections Alan. PS REM is an all time favorite of mine. Thanks.
Thanks Carl - we definitely have similar tastes. Nice to hear what was popular and getting airplay in New Zealand. So interesting. Many that I showed like The Jam and even Joan Armatrading get little to no play in the States. Love And Affection is incredible - you're right. Grand Funk so underrated to me. Nice to hear you know of them - I didn't know they were big outside the US. FYI Can't Get Enough Of Your Love is Bad Company, but no biggie - They were another really excellent band who I'm a big fan of. Thanks for all your support and your great channel as well.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Yes you are right Alan. Can't get enough of your Love was by Bad Company. I get them mixed up. They were similar rock bands in their sound. I should know because i own both groups music on cd. Grand Funk had the smash hit Locomotion in 1974. Hope I'm right with that Alan. I like the British group Suede like you do too. The song Animal Nitrate is good of theirs.
Hey Alan. I have to agree with Carl - that Who album is awesome! That is great that you have Snap! by The Jam. They really are an underrated band, primarily I think because punk was more popular in Britain than in the United States. I own every Kinks album like you, so I don’t own any greatest hits by them. Arthur is my favorite album. My first Stones album was Hot Rocks, but my favorite album is Goats Head Soup. I had those same Bob Dylan Greatest Hits on CD years ago before I went digital with my collection. Like you, I also have Bowie The Singles. When it first came out years ago, it included an extra CD that had Bing Crosby and David doing the Little Drummer Boy Christmas song from 1978. Anyway, I just wanted to comment as I haven’t commented in a number of months. Great videos. I love them. Keep it up!
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow I'm older than you Alan. I'm starting to get muddled now. My memory isn't like it used to be. It has holes in it like a sieve.
@@carltwidle9046 I can definitely picture Grand funk doing Can’t Get Enough. Cool you like Suede. I’ve grown to really like them.
cool topic. i might steal it. hahah. i have that Jam album on vinyl and CD never realized the CD was missing some tracks. I’m not a big Bowie fan but have that Best of Bowie 2 CD set and it’s got all I need. That Who set is nice I always remember seeing it in the store but never picked it up. I had Meaty Beaty, Hooligans and the Greatest Hits (with union jack jacket cover.) I’m with you on Eponymous too. I think first album by REM I ever got was Green and then like a few weeks later I ran out and grabbed Eponymous cause I dug Green so much. Great vid Alan.
Thanks Steve. Steal away. It’s a good topic for sure. Love Meaty Beaty. Great Who hits album.
Hey Alan great show man thanks for the shout out the album cover artwork on that who album was was vantastic I would frame that ..now I got to check out some blur.. that Grateful Dead collection looks cool too I would say you were a dead.head. I love the band pulp I got the see them on Jimmy Fallon in person live at a taping of The Tonight Show well done my friend love it... there's so great much Jethro Tull recordings its mind-blowing I love it all tho. thanks again man great show..j.geils .. Cars.. monkees.. Beach Boys tragically hip.. would be some of my favorite copulations.
Actually THANK YOU Glen - I owe that video to you - you thought of it and it was an AWESOME idea. Can't believe you saw Pulp live on Fallon. How cool is that. I've never seen them live in person - just on video - they look and sound amazing from what I've heard. Such a great band. If you like Pulp, I'm sure you'll like Blur. Anyway, Thanks again and I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
I'm not big on comps and greatest hits, so I wasn't going to watch this one, but I'm blown away at seeing so many comps...
I own thousands of albums, and if I own 10 greatest hits, I'd be shocked.
Nonetheless I watched and our tastes are so similar...
Also, like you I found Rodriguez from the movie...own the LP's now.
We had tickets to see him, but before our show the tour was canceled.
He is very old and frail now. I don't think we'll get the chance to see him.
But man, is his music great.
Good video. Going to look at your Frampton one...
Thanks so much. Yea - like most, I never heard of Rodriguez until the movie and I fell in love with his albums from that. Such great stuff. To bad the concert was cancelled. I'm kind of impressed that you don't have comps / greatest hits with a collection of your size. Personally, I really like getting comps (although I am a bit of a completist), but the reality is I don't listen to them that often - definitely more of an album guy - but some of the comps that I showed I do listen to alot. Thanks
It's funny, the last CD I was listening to was Decade-Neil Young in my car last night to and from the grocery store. All great selections. You can't lose with David Bowie, Bob Dylan, CCR, Blondie, The Beatles (red or blue) The Who (any Who compilation). Hot Rocks and Made In The Shade were my "go to" Stones albums in Jr.High when I just wanted the hits. That Kinks Greatest Hits album you have I had in High school on 8-Track, loved it! I saw Alice Cooper in '75 and bought the greatest album soon after, totally definitive. When I used to travel a lot I used to bring a Sony CD Walkman and a stack of Greatest Hits CDs (about 80%) in a zip lock case.Carly Simon and Linda Ronstadt usually made the cut along with Steely Dan, Eagles, James Taylor, Supertramp, Stevie Wonder etc.
I noticed the Black Sabbath Vol.4 CD on your shelf. That my favorite record of theirs. Supernaut!
Thanks. You have great eyes. I’m currently listening to every Sabbath album for some reason. Maybe I’ll do a video. I’m not there biggest fan but really good stuff.
Another excellent video !! Nice to see a lot of the same albums that are in my collection :). I agree with the Grateful Dead studio vs. live comment - as much as I can appreciate it, I've never been a big fan of overly long meandering jams. Nice to see Carla Olson recognized. I have no doubt you've heard the amazing version she and Mick Taylor do of 'Winter' (easily one of my favorite Stone's songs).
Yea. Love that long extended version of winter. One of my favorite Stones songs.
This video caught my eye this morning and I thought I'd take a look at the compilations that make my top 500 (or so) albums. (Comment is now in the right place).

Some of these I see as summaries of great careers that I want as well as classic albums, others are replacements for albums you might otherwise expect me to love. For example, This Is The Moody Blues is by far my most played Moodies album, followed by the Red Rocks live performance. I find the classic seven albums from 67 to 72 inconsistent. It's the same with Simon & Garfunkel. On the other hand, Roxy Music, The Beatles etc I have as well as the classic albums.
Awesome list. I own and love most of these. Snap was my intro to The Jam and still a favorite. Fantastic. Meaty Beaty is perfect collection of early Who singles. Best of Grin vinyl is a fave. I actually prefer the shorter vinyl over the deluxe CD. A bit tighter and perfect. I have to get into Big Big Train . Thanks as always. .
Nice video, thanks. Glad to see Status Quo in your list!👍But where's is Zeppelin? Well, for me they're number 1 band, that's why i asked lol 😁 cheers from Finland
I love Zeppelin and have every one of their releases. They do have now quite a bunch of compilation albums and I have them all. But I never listen to Zeppelin compilations. They really are an "albums" band (like Floyd as well) to me - so no Zeppelin compilations made this list - but I have them and of course the music is incredible. Thanks.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Now I undestand - cool😄 I also have all Zep Super Deluxe box sets (from studio albums) and like you, very rarely listen those compilations which of course i have too lol
@@zachary1966 yea. When I want to listen to Zeppelin it’s their albums. Thanks
Great video.
@@thebossman60 thanks so much
Some good picks. I have a number of them. And some I should look out for.
Thanks so much Steve.
Nice collection! Alice Cooper Greatest Hits is perfect. Here are a few more that are great: Passion is No Ordinay Word - The Graham Parker Anthology 76-91, Quiet Please - The New Best of Nick Lowe, Blown to Smithereens- Best of Smithereens, The John Prine Anthology. There is a 2 cd expanded version of that Snap album by the Jam.
Yes those are all great - I don't have the John Prine, but I know it's like the Zevon and Parker "mini-boxes". I didn't know they finally put out the full snap on CD - with 2 CD's - about time. Will look for that. I have many Jam compilations - both single and 2 CDs, but no beating Snap for me. Thanks.
Do you own any Chicago albums?
Yes. Not a huge fan but I have their first couple. Some lives ones and at least 3 compilations.
It's so strange listening to your opinions on such a wide variety of music. You sound exactly like me , anyway a couple other compilation albums to mention that you obviously have . The Steve Miller Band greatest hits , Foreigner records and James Taylor (1976) Best of . One compilation album I have that I would appreciate your thoughts on is Bruce Cockburn -Waiting for a Miracle , Singles 1970-1987. Hard to find but worth the hunt.
Thanks so much - really appreciate it. Great - classic choices you mentioned - Steve Miller Band and Foreigner are perfect for compilations. In fact when I want to listen to them it is typically a compilation of theirs (I have a couple on both of them). As for Bruce Cockburn, I'm fairly a newbie. I only have two of his albums - Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws and Anything Anytime Anywhere - Singles 1979-2002. I really like them both and will continue on my Cockburn journey - but I'm not qualified to really judge his albums/compilations. Thanks again!
I had the Jam snap first on cassette, so good, then got the cd and ,yes, it was missing a few tracks, mainly thick as thieves, which kicks major ass
That was my intro to blur also, did you like their last album
Went crazy for pulp years ago, this is hardcore is my favorite
You about covered everything. I do have a best of the Stranglers that is excellent and years ago had a Damned compilation , light at the end of the tunnel I believe , really dig the Damned
🤘😝
Thanks so much. I have to get into The Damned and The Stranglers - believe it or not never had their albums...but I will. I LOVE This Is Hardcore too. I didn't get the last Blur album, but it's supposed to be great, and I will at some point. I'm still waiting to find the updated Snap 2 CD set which is complete, so I'm still sticking with the vinyl for now. Thanks so much.
The stranglers are kinda hit or miss for me though they have many rabid fans, they do an insane version of burt Bacharach's Walk on By, really cool, perhaps my favorite is a song called Skin Deep, really slick euro sounding, great
The damned are just a treasure trove of great rock and roll, started out punk, beat out the clash for first English punk album and just evolved over every release, great musicians, the tremendous Rat Scabies on drums. So good, check out Wait for the Blackout, a mid period rocker, kicks total ass Too many great songs to list, you will love the Damned 👍
@ yea. Thanks for the tips. I know some Damned stuff but just never bought any of their album’s including the classic debut. On my lookout list. Thanks
Here is my feedback on the video.
I remember when The Story of the Who came out but I wasn't tempted as I already owned quite a few albums by them. I think I've told you, they are my favourite band and the box set, Thirty Years of Maximum R&B is my favourite large compilation.
You know, It's strange because I was a big fan of ELP in my teenage years, but I've never investigated The Nice. I'm going to have to put that right.
I think Rolled Gold is a better Stones compilation. I had it as a kid on vinyl but it was slow to come out on CD so I had to make do with Hot Rocks. These days, I listen to Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) if I want an early compilation, before I launch into that wonderful sequence of albums from 1968 to 1973.
I had the first Bob Dylan greatest hits, but again, I tend to focus on particular studio or live albums. I've never taken to The Allman Brothers Band. I don't have much Alice Cooper, happy to live with that first Greatest Hits and the Welcome To My Nightmare studio album.
I'm going to have to listen to the Sugarman album again. I bought it but I haven't heard it for years. That Squeeze album probably should have qualified for my list.
I love Al Stewart, but I have an issue with the production on 24 Carrots with the drums too high in the mix. It's the same with his later albums in the 1980s. I don't get back into line with him until 1995's Between The Wars.
It's good to see that we have so much in common.
If you're looking for ideas for different videos, I'd be happy to take part in favourite albums by genre per decade or a run-down of lesser known gems or even a grand countdown of your favourite 100 to 500 albums.
We sure are similar. Thanks for the ideas and offer to take part. I like idea. I’ve no idea how to do it. But I think it’s a great idea to grow the channel in the near future. Thanks and I’ll let you know.
So Love Dire Straits have all the albums you should do a Credence Clearwater Revival album video i have all their albums as well, great video. Took me along time to find all the dire straits but got them all now. also do you know Stompin Tom Connors.
@@theomuraca7395 Thanks. Thanks for the idea. No I’ve never even heard of Stomping Ton Connors. Will have to look up. Like the Stompin name though. .
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow yes he is a Canadian singer Btw seen your unplugged video man love all the albums bob Dylan unplugged amazing sadly my copy is scratched and skips bad, do you know how to take scratches out of CDs, lastly i think this is the best music channel on RUclips
@@theomuraca7395 Wow - what a compliment - thanks so much. I really appreciate it. Gotta say that I have CD's that are very scratched and they usually play perfectly. So the scratch that you have on the CD must be pretty severe. I've found they really are sort of indestructable ....well to a point I guess. I remember a record store I used to frequent had a buffing machine but I don't know if it actually worked, and I personally never needed it. I think there is a different in scratches and if its a really deep scratch vs the common surface scratches, that I imagine the CD might be toast unfortunately. Sorry.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow No problem i love the old music and I'm only 21. another great video you should do is a eagles ranking video the first cd i ever bought at the age of 12 was hotel California.
@@theomuraca7395 That's so awesome that you love this "old" music and your only 21 - well you have great taste. This music is timeless. I've actually considered an Eagles video but not sure. I do have all their albums. Probably at some point. Thanks so much again.
Hi Alan. Who doesn't like a Best Of/Greatest Hits/compilation album? There have been many Who re-packages over the years, but the one you showed is the best (partly because they don't have to pay lip service to late-period Who) ... I hate hype stickers. So many album covers ruined over the years trying to remove them ... There are some dire Blondie comps. The cover on 'The Platinum Collection' is so cheap-looking and uncool. But you can't argue with the songs, starting off with 'X Offender' which was my introduction to the band; I bought the 'In The Flesh c/w X Offender' single upon release ... I like most of the Grateful Dead studio albums. I can take or leave the live material ... I showed R.E.M.'s 'Eponymous' recently. Genius! ... Nice to see the odd UK act getting a mention.
Thanks so much. Kudos to you for discovering Blondie at the very start. Took me till Parallel Lines. Tons of Who comps. Maybe more than anyone. More than original albums. Lol
Hi. Some great choices! Just curious about the Jam - Snap! LP. I have a 2-CD version that matches the tracklisting of your album (I think). There was a limited edition bonus 45 Live EP added to the original release. Is that the one you meant, as they're not on the CD. Anyway, thanks for the video. Cheers!
At least in the US when they put out Snap on CD they released it as a single CD and omitted a lot of songs due to lack of space on the cd. So I didn’t get the CD. A few years ago they finally rereleased Snap remastered on CD comprised of all the songs from the two vinyl records. I haven’t gotten it yet. It’s rare and fairly expensive out in the wild so I’ve stuck with the two record set so far.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Ah, I see, yes mine is from 2006. Shame about postage prices these days because used copies pretty cheap in the UK. Of course postage will cost you the price of a small car 😄 All the best.
What’s better greatest hits or studio what do you prefer it’s better with greatest hits for me
I'm sorry, but I don't think I understand....greatest hits or studio? In general, if I'm a big fan of an artist, I don't need to hear the hits anymore, oftentimes, their played out, so a great compilation that mixes it up, hits, great album tracks, some live stuff can be very appealing. But if it's a band I'm not a huge fan of a greatest hits is perfect.
there’s not a lot of bands im a huge fan of so that’s why its better with greatest hits
@@steffenwennerstrand8969 Oh I get it. Yes. I totally agree. There are bands that I don't love that a great hits collection or compilation is perfect. These albums definitely have a place and can be great / perfect listening experiences. But for most, for me, they're just a cherry on top. Many bands I buy everything, and others I buy most of their albums.
do you have any Supertramp. fan of some of their albums.
@@theomuraca7395 yea. I’m a moderate Supertramp fan I guess. I have five of their albums. Crime of the Century, Even in the Quietest Moments, Breakfast in America, Paris, and Retrospectacle Supertramp Anthology. I guess not too bad a collection after all. Best Alan
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow cool we have the same albums but i don't on anthology one yet i have the best of.
@ nice. I think we have the best ones probably.
For 3 bands, I bought the greatest hists before diving into the bands discography:
Rolling Stones: Hot Rocks (1964-1971) - excellent selection of what made the 60s Stones the Stones
CCR: Chronicles : The best of their brief career. Every track is a killer.
Beatles: Red and Blue albums
Originally bought them on vinyl. Hot Rocks and Chronicles bought them on CD. I appreciated on Chronicles, the full 11 minute version of I heard through the Grapevine was used rather than the 4 minute single. Didn't bother with CDs of the Red and Blue albums.
All three groups I eventually began to buy their individual albums.
Some others I bought greatest hits on CD:
The Standells, The Remains, Bobby Fuller Four, Buddy Holly, Dave Clark Five, Janis Joplin.
Yea I'd say Hot Rocks, Chronicles and both the Red and Blue albums are amongst the most popular and best "best Of albums". Perfect entries for those bands. I also have Dave Clark Five 2CD History album which has like everything you need for DC5. Janis Greatest Hits was my first album by her as well. Buddy Holly lots of great comps. The Remains are cool - I like them as well. I don't have any Standells and Bobby Fuller Four albums but I'm sure are great to have. Thanks.
The 20 years of Tull box set is one of my all time favorites also.I have about 900 some box sets. Some of my other favorites are The best of The Steve Miller Band 1968-73 all the early stuff,Best of Cream on album with the fruit on the cover,Rod Stewart Vol.1 and 2 the Mercury years, best of Uriah Heep their first best of,Mamas and Pappas the complete anthology,Best of the Kinks their first collection, best of ELP their first collection and finally the Chris Cornell collection

Wow - that's another comprehensive list. The Very Best of Grin - is that the CD with 19 tracks on Legacy - what a great collection that is...or is that the original vinyl best of which is much tighter but a lot less music - I love them both. I have to check out The Beautiful South - I see their CD's for next to nothing and I know they were huge in the UK. Interesting Bowie collection (versus the multitude of much large compilations available). I have a lot of Richard Thompson and that's a fun later day collection. I have to get into Big Big Train - I know I'll love them. Never find their albums used in the wild though. Interesting differential between the Beatles Red and Blue albums - 1 vs 21. Don't know what it is with me and Roxy Music. I have Street Life, but I really like the older (More Than This, Avalon) more than the earlier stuff. Not sure why. I've just never totally warmed up to them...As always amazing lists that are great to look at.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Grin, it's the 19 track cd. I later bought the four albums, but the compilation is my go-to. With Roxy, it is the early stuff I love. This album only goes from the debut through to Siren. As for Bowie, I have mixed feelings about the albums from 74-79, but the singles are great. I've never understood the wide praise for Low and Heroes. I find Diamond Dogs and Young Americans inconsistent.
Next week, I'll take a look at live albums and debut albums.
Have a great weekend.
@@paulsimister944 you too. Looking forward to your lists
Nice to see someone take the time to compile a list like this. I'm not in to Artist Comilation's but prefer comp's put out by labels of their Artist's and I've found some great Artist's that way.
I'm really surprised Apple Music or one of those big music services didn't do a list like this yet. There are a lot of people out there that would rather get Greatest Hits Albums instead and only purchase a few personal favorites off of the other albums of an artist.
I"m not a streamer so I'm not aware of that - but they definitely should - tell them to check out my video...lol. No seriously - you're right. Lots of bands are better served with compilations. My 2nd favorite band The Kinks are a band very well served by compilations. I would only recommend a Kinks compilation to a newbie. Thanks.
Weird scenes inside the gold mine, the DOORS.
You know I never owned that one. I have many Doors compilations (there's like an endless amount) but I remember that vinyl one from my school days. Nice choice.
I don’t know. I would’ve had to add James Taylor’s Greatest Hits Volume I and II, and maybe The Best Of James Taylor to my list. Maybe James’ brother Livingston: 20th Century Masters - The Best Of Livingston Taylor. Janet Jackson 1986/1996 Design of A Decade - if you’re into the Jackson’s. The Best of Arlo Guthrie, a good folk album, The Cream: 20th Century Masters: The Best of Cream, The Beatles: 1967-1970, and of course I would not feel at home without a Gordon Lightfoot album, so I would have to add Complete Greatest Hits to the list. Another folk compilation from Rhino, I would put on the list would be Jim Croce Classic Hits. So there.
Lots of great classic choices there. James Taylor’s greatest Hits. Yea. Everyone owns that one. Vol 2 I have as well but not as good. I tried to choose just one Beatles but yes the Blue album is just as good as the red. Not a fan of Jackson but that’s just me. There’s so many. You’re right though. James Taylor’s is really a classic. Thanks.
Happy New Year Allen as you know I saw the Who last year is there any way we can do a video call I would like to be on your show or maybe we can maybe just talk about The Who over text I don't know get back to me I'd like to show you my Who programme which was like your one being blue how are you doing hope you're doing ok I saw them at the O2 Arena last July
Thanks so much. Really nice of you. I’m not at the point where I’m ready to have guests but when I’m ready and set up for that I’ll definitely let you know. I’m so glad you loved the Who concert as much as I hoped you would.
Kinks Kronicles is also a good compilation. No Procol Harum best ???
Kronikles was also one of my first Kinks comps - yea that's a fantastic early compilation. I like Procol Harum and have a few albums including a CD best of. But not a favorite of mine.
I HATE greatest Hit's / Best of's.... The track's are all out of order PLUS some of the BEST track's to my mind are "The album track's" which are left out ! I do buy Label's Compilation's and have picked up & discovered some really good Artist's that way. I'll sort some out & comment on that later..... As alway's Alan, I have to be different ! LOL. PS. I'm not even going to watch this video.
Greatest Hits / compilations serve a great function. A great one (Stone's Hot Rocks for instance) can be a perfect introduction to a new band for somebody. It a band has a lot of albums and a long history, but you're not familiar with them or much of their material - a great compilation (which may also have great album tracks) is a terrific way to dip your toes in. Then if you like it, you get their "real" albums. A live album can serve the same function as well. Of course as a big fan, we probably never listen to the compilations..but that's also not always true. I love Dire Straits, David Bowie and Blondie - own all their albums and love their albums but I do listen to their compilations (which also feature great albums tracks) all the time.
The Who, Jefferson Airplane then Beatles... so much for alphabetically. Lol
whoopsie...lol. But you get the idea....lol. Thanks
Best of Jethro Tull acoustic is my favorite compilation album. What about the Eagles greatest hits, biggest selling album of all time, or the Doobie Brothers?
Yep. I really like the Acoustic Tull comp. And I have many Eagles and Doobie Brothers comps. They’re great. I just don’t ever listen to them so not at my top list
