Wow! What a great list of acoustic/unplugged records! Great video.
    Thank you!

Great idea and selections for a video. I love acoustic music and there are a few here I wasn't familiar with. One of my favorite's that I didn't see mentioned is Neil Young's Live at Massey Hall 1971. Another that I find "OK" is Endangered Species by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was nice to see the Gene Clark/Carla Olsen album get mentioned, an overlooked obscure gem.

You’re right that Neil Young Massey Hall. Album is fantastic. I’ve heard good things about endangered species but I don’t have the latter-day Skynyrd albums. I’ll have to investigate that one. Thanks for acknowledging the Gene Clark Carla Olson album. They were great together. Thanks again.

Hi Alan I like your dog Wishbone. Secret Policmans Ball i remember. It came out in 1979. I like Tom Robinsons music, he had a big hit here titled 2-4-6-8 Motorway in 1977, and another song called Up against the Wall.. Nirvanas Unplugged record in the 1990s. They did a good cover of David Bowies song Man who sold the World on it. I think i have told you that I saw Bowie in 1978 in concert. I like Kiss, but i haven't heard about that unplugged recording. And Neil Young either. I like the Pretenders, i own a copy of their cd, that you have. I like Ian Hunter too, Mott the Hoople were a favorite group of mine in the 1970s. I like their songs Roll away the Stone, All the way to Memphis from 1973. I was in my teens that year. Heart are great, another favorite group of mine, the Wilson sisters. Magic Man from 1976 is a cool song. Interesting video Alan. Thanks.

Thanks Carl - Awesome you saw Bowie in 1978 - wish I did. I really like Tom Robinson. In fact, that debut album "Power In The Darkness" I think is one of the greatest debut albums ever - I did on video on it too. Thanks again.

Wishbone is beautiful! Thanks for introducing him. And thanks for another cool video on another great topic: unplugged albums. I remember having a slight addiction to MTV’s “Unplugged” series in the 90s. In that series, five concerts really stood out for me: Eric Clapton, Nirvana, Neil Young, Rod Stewart and 10,000 Maniacs. As you stated, Clapton’s reimaging of Layla on his “Unplugged” album is almost as great as the original version of the song. Considering how different the acoustic and the electric versions are, I think that’s pretty amazing. When I saw Nirvana’s “Unplugged” concert, I was mesmerized. The music sounded nuanced and great, and Kurt Cobain’s seated presence commanded the room subtly yet solidly. Neil Young has always blown me away in concert, with his acoustic guitar, piano and harmonica playing moving me as much as his frenzied electric guitar soloing. Rod Stewart, with the special treat of having Ronnie Wood on stage, and 10,000 Maniacs, with Natalie Merchant’s unique aura, pulled out all the stops. I still listen to all five of those CDs. None more than my “Stripped,” CD, though. I love the song selections on it, both studio and live ones, and the way the Stones play live. I would also pick that CD as my number 1, The Kinks, American edition, as number 2, and “Reckoning” as number 3. I’m a big fan of “Dead Set, “ as well. Having won the lottery to see Springsteen On Broadway (yes, there really was a ticket lottery, and I actually won 2 tickets to the show - great seats, too, in a theater that holds around 900 people), I can honestly say that Bruce’s performance (with Patti on a few songs) made for a magical night. But, I agree that you don’t need to hear the stories repeatedly on a CD. They were captivating to hear from Bruce being pretty close to us. There is one CD that was featured in your video which I never heard of: “An Acoustic Night At The Theater.” Within Temptation is a band that is unknown to me. So, I’ll have to check it out.

Wow - you really did win the lottery - I know tickets for Springsteen on Broadway were going for insane money (kind of like the upcoming tour). I didn't even try to get tickets. That's awesome. I'm sure it was incredible but yea on CD - it's on one or twice listen. Within Temptation is a really good band - Hugely dramatic, bombastic - operatic heavy metal hard rock with an amazing female singer. But here it's just a toned down acoustic performance of some terrific songs - definitely worth an investigation. Glad you like my choices.

There's a lot of great live and unplugged recordings here. Dylan, Neil Young, Kiss, Pretenders, 10,000 Maniacs, Eric Clapton, Nirvana, Kinks (US version), Grateful Dead, both Simon & Garfunkel disc's, Rod Stewart, the first two Secret Policemans Balls and The Rolling Stones I have and are all great. The dark horse for me is the Al Stewart and Peter White CD. I was in Park City, Utah about six years ago and they were both playing there together. I caught the show and it was absolutely amazing. I had no idea they were playing together. I bought the disc when I got home and played it constantly for a couple of months. The one's you have that I want in your collection is the Ian Hunter and Elvis Costello/ Steve Nieve recordings. Those are an absolute must for my collection.
Another awesome display and presentation but I think Wishbone stoled the show tonight!

Thanks so much - that Ian Hunter Strings Attached album is amazing in my opinion. Really highlights the melodies and songwriting craft. You'll love it. The Costello/Nieve is very different but works as well. Yea, Wishbone finally got some screen time. Thanks.

I love me some Ian Hunter. Saw him with Mott The Hopple. Queen was the opening act. Also saw him with Mick Ronson once. I believe that Strings attached is also on DVD. I love The Kinks To The Bone much better than the 2 disc version....not sure why. I will have to get the Grateful Dead set especially since Dead and Company will be at Jazz Fest. Thanks for the introduction to Wishbone!

Great stuff! A Little Light Music is one of my favorite live albums. As is No Quarter. But have you ever heard Leftover Wine by Melanie?

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  Год назад

I can't believe you mentioned Leftover Wine. I used to have it on vinyl - I think that was recorded at Carnegie Hall (different earlier performance than the double live Melanie Carnegie Hall album). I used to have both on vinyl but got rid of those albums decades ago for some reason. I still have a bunch of Melanie albums but I thinned it out for some reason and that didn't make the cut. But I thought of it. I actually prefer her performances with a band more than simply solo. Love her album Ballroom Streets. But that album if memory serves had some great performances - Animal Crackers - Loved it. Thanks.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow I also used to have it on vinyl. It was probably the album, more than any other, that made me fall in love with the early 70's. Magical.

@@danaaronmusic If memory serves me right, I think at the end of that album, she invited the audience up on the stage and you can hear the people come on the stage with her....I'm pretty sure. I have a double best of Melanie on vinyl and there's many songs from that album on it. I saw her live only once but I met her and she signed an advertisement for me which I have framed. She was very nice and cool, as you'd expect.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow It was awesome. In fact I managed the same thing the next year at the 25th anniversary show. He was really very pleasant and nice. We got into a show early because my wife knew somebody, and we met him up at the bar! Then my wife was asked to be the ice cream lady who hands out ice cream to the audience. So that enabled me to get backstage after the show and we talked with Ian, Dave Pegg, Andy, and the drummer who was kind of a dick. We drank brewskis with them too. Ian gave me this gigantic framed painting of himself that a fan gave him. We got autographs and passes too. No pictures. Then we drove him to his hotel in the back of my tiny Toyota! Dropped him off and he left his Heineken beer bottle behind, which I still got 😹
Incidentally where are you from on Long Island? I am from West Islip, and live in Chicago now. Probably your age too. ✌️

Don Mclean Solo 1973 is my favorite, also Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds live at Luther college. Matthew's acoustic shows are better than with his full band.

I’ve never heard the McLean album. Gotta look for that one. Certainly great time period. It’s all personal taste of course but something about Dave Mathew’s I could never get into. I know of that acoustic live album so maybe I’ll like it better than his band recordings. Thanks.
