When MTV originally aired this in 1993, they only showed a section of it. They didn't show that opening part. it feels like I'm watching a new release from Nirvana especially since I've never seen Krist play his bass like that.
Well yeah, it's a delicate dance. He can't start too early, there's only so much build up you can do on the drums before it loses steam if not everyone is with you.
I remember being a young teen and passing out listening to the never mind cd and 20 min after the last song this started blasting in my room not knowing it was on the album. Good memories.
Short answer: because they weren't supposed to and he likes his kit a certain way and that makes it hard to replace after every show. He would often move his hard-to-find high hats if he knew the guys were coming for his drums (remember this was before you could just order stuff online) Long answer: why they broke stuff and why they were allowed to break stuff were two different reasons. the band wanted to break stuff to be "punk rock" but in the early days couldn't afford to, so they mostly just brawled with the audience. but they got tired of fighting/worrying about lawsuits and started getting a bigger audience. and the label liked the symbolism of broken guitars and thought of it as sending a message to a certain person who valued things more than people. and so they told the band they could break guitars but nothing else, that the symbolism/message that they wanted to send would be muddled and wouldn't be clear if the drums were always broken as well. and grohl didn't really like when they would break his stuff. So the business people set it up so breaking the guitars was part of the show and thus a business expense write-off for the band (woohoo they could afford to break stuff!), and made a direct deal with a guitar maker that they'd need to buy new guitars after every show. so they weren't supposed to break the drums. it wasn't part of the business model, conflicted with the central Nirvana messaging, and their drummer didn't like it. but every once in awhile they'd decide a drum kit was on its last legs and therefor it had to die an honorable warrior death and the label said ok fine the first time that happened. and then a few times they did it just because they wanted to, but they got told on that the drums were still good and then the cost of the drums would get deducted from the guilty drum murderer culprit's individual pay and they would be reminded to only break guitars (unless the drums have lived a very full life and merit euthanasia to put them out of their misery). So they learned to obey the guitar-only rule... sort of... kind of... when they felt like it
I love how Kurt beckons the crowd to come on stage and join in the chaos. He only manages to get one spastic. So he mocks them clapping like seals at the end and walks off the stage with a look of derision on his face.
The “cooldown” at around 8 minutes into complete silence.. only to kick it off like a hundred freight trains crashing.. is truly a magical moment in music history as far as I’m concerned.
Compared to other live performances ( like Live at Reading ) this is one of their best when it comes to actual recordings of the show. They sound amazing and Kurt is just giving a 110% as is Krist, Dave and Pat. Don’t know if the pain killers were hitting just right or if he was clean at the time but whatever it was , it shows. I wish I wasn’t a month old at the time of this performance. Would’ve definitely made the trip from LA if I wasn’t being breast fed.

are we just gonna ignore that kurt literally spits on the camera, does a little smile, and then continues on playing? ok.
You ever saw the concert from Rio? :D Lol he spits like half of the concert and he does... a lot of other things too:D
Shhh
Shut up dork
In Rock in Rio, he spat in all the cameras, broke the lighting and pissed on the sound boxes LMAO
Uh yep he does lots of extras on that one.. Love it!
10:05 Pat's guitar sounds like cats
knowitallbrother64 That’s what that noise was?
He drank anís del mono.
Just the comment I was specifically looking for. I've always liked that sound along with Cobains feedback, it really sets a vibe. Pat was perfect addition to the roster. Back then I remember being "like who the fuck is this guy??" Lol

Pat's guitar toss is hilarious. He's like "Alright, now I'm gonna politely throw my guitar at this drumkit."
Imagine getting to experience this in person
The closest I got to this was Swans. a trip to hell in search of peace. Powerful!
I love the way he claps back to the audience like “ yea thank you all bastards, are u happy u heard us? ok goodbye” and then he turns back and his smile is just completely gone. i guess at this point they were really exhausted or as they said “burned out”.
i love them all ❤️
What if he was just only pissed off because they clapped a ''really crappy show'' literally
And that was in their hometown.
@@xintlzer3354 at least he was honest to himself :D
He’s doing an impression of Ozzy Osbourne
I think he was mocking them cos that night he was against playing this show for MTV and the ticket prices were expensive i think 250$ , he was like are u happy u paid 250$ to see us ? Pearl Jam were supposed to play that night but Eddie Vedder got sick so they replaced Pearl Jam with Nirvana
Nothing like a mellow intro with and endless chaos! Thank you, Kurt, Dave, Kris, Pat for grunge! You will never get old!
ah yes, Endless, Nameless
the one song you can use to piss off your neighbors
When MTV originally aired this in 1993, they only showed a section of it. They didn't show that opening part. it feels like I'm watching a new release from Nirvana especially since I've never seen Krist play his bass like that.
Yeah, the intro was very cool.
I admire the way Kurt's undershirt stayed tucked in his pants throughout the whole show. Quite a feat, as there were plenty of gymnastics.
8:30 Krist bassfucking the amp is everything
Nobody made pure noise sound so awesome like Nirvana could.
Yeah Sonic Youth for sure!

rodrigo c his leg prolly tired af from the kick drum
Beedyboi nah he can go for a fuck long time. for example, aneurysm
Well yeah, it's a delicate dance. He can't start too early, there's only so much build up you can do on the drums before it loses steam if not everyone is with you.
Kris Frederick right on
Thanks Mom, thanks kurt; thank you all. Just glad to be here!
I remember being a young teen and passing out listening to the never mind cd and 20 min after the last song this started blasting in my room not knowing it was on the album. Good memories.

Dave never wants to destroy his drums so kurt always has to do the job for him
Short answer: because they weren't supposed to and he likes his kit a certain way and that makes it hard to replace after every show. He would often move his hard-to-find high hats if he knew the guys were coming for his drums (remember this was before you could just order stuff online)
Long answer: why they broke stuff and why they were allowed to break stuff were two different reasons. the band wanted to break stuff to be "punk rock" but in the early days couldn't afford to, so they mostly just brawled with the audience. but they got tired of fighting/worrying about lawsuits and started getting a bigger audience. and the label liked the symbolism of broken guitars and thought of it as sending a message to a certain person who valued things more than people. and so they told the band they could break guitars but nothing else, that the symbolism/message that they wanted to send would be muddled and wouldn't be clear if the drums were always broken as well. and grohl didn't really like when they would break his stuff.
So they learned to obey the guitar-only rule... sort of... kind of... when they felt like it
Fuckin Brilliant! Watching back It's always clear why I have loved Nirvana since I was 11 in 91. Best band to have ever existed (imo) by a mile!!!!!
Chaotic Symphony....disgustingly beautiful
I love how Kurt beckons the crowd to come on stage and join in the chaos. He only manages to get one spastic. So he mocks them clapping like seals at the end and walks off the stage with a look of derision on his face.

I think nirvana accidentally made one of the best sludge metal tracks ever
I understand what you mean ... but this is more Experimental than anything else...Avant punk if you prefer. Check Stooges L.A.Blues
‘’Sludge metal’’ lmao. This is more like experimental or avant-garde rock...
Check out paper cuts that song is sludge metal)
Experimental Hardcore is probably what i would call this
Deadringer I wouldn’t.
Kurts artistic expression really is showcased in this live version.
The “cooldown” at around 8 minutes into complete silence.. only to kick it off like a hundred freight trains crashing.. is truly a magical moment in music history as far as I’m concerned.
Live and loud was their best recorded show
John Richardson I know a guy who was there.
Sounds like it....MTV don't fuck around with the audio
It’s definitely “up there”. I’m a big fan of the Paradiso show in Amsterdam
They were very tight and in point in this concert, proves they only got better and better
Live At The Paramount was better in my opinion
The interesting thing about this song is that it changes every time it’s played. I LOVE it.
Seeing how he interacts with fans in this video puts a smile on my face. His passing is a shame.
Completely envious of all the time travelers who went back to attend this show

Compared to other live performances ( like Live at Reading ) this is one of their best when it comes to actual recordings of the show. They sound amazing and Kurt is just giving a 110% as is Krist, Dave and Pat. Don’t know if the pain killers were hitting just right or if he was clean at the time but whatever it was , it shows. I wish I wasn’t a month old at the time of this performance. Would’ve definitely made the trip from LA if I wasn’t being breast fed.
I just can't quit repeating this!!! Epic.. one of my favorite renditions of this..
