Yay! Thank you so much! You have opened up a whole new world for me since I lost my homestead, and am not allowed to have a traditional garden where I am at. 🤗 My yellow squash has tiny little flower buds on it. It probably won't flower for at least 3 weeks yet. Poor bees are looking for them already. My peppers and tomatoes already have baby fruit on them. My little farm girl heart has new hope.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I told my neighbor my idea to do raise bed container garden on my driveway, now being disabled and having to sit down and do my gardening, and I bought numerous cans of colorful spray paint, picking up lawn chairs at yard sales, and pots and bins. I am not crazy .. love color. Blessings.

Hi Robbie. Science has shown that the leeward side of a windbreak is warmer than the windward side (Search for 'windbreak thermal effects'). I believe that you also have a soil temperature advantage by leaving the soil low in the totes. In the windy Spring, the soil will be warmer (several degrees) because of the 6" tote wall (windbreak) and in the summer you have more vegetation, because of the Spring jumpstart, to shade and cool the soil. And, as I recall, you have made similar comments about the tote lids at the Chair Garden (Don't remember which episode). I think you have come up with another good garden hack that I haven't heard from anyone else.

Wonderful! Riverside gets really hot in the summer, this should work great for you, and to keep the plants damp on those very hot dry days, try to remember to layer ins some flower pots in the totes, that will help your containers to retain some extra water during the day for the plants, Thank you so much 😊

Those bins probably hold about one bag of 1.5 cu ft of soil each... that costs around 7 bucks with tax at Home Depot right now... if anyone wants to do this you probably wouldn’t need to spend more than a hundred bucks... there are appx ten bins there. For people who haven’t created their own compost yet. But a person could set something like this up for roughly two hundred dollars if they buy those kind of bins. Those probably hold up better in the coastal regions of california, and are worth trying no matter where you live, but mine are already weakening and breaking... the HDx black and yellow bins hold up to the elements so much better... they are worth the extra money for anyone anywhere.
