I literally received more dishpans last night. I finally last year was able to grow lettuce in a dishpan after watching your videos. Looking forward to planting more variety of veggies in them this year. Thank you ☺️
I have not even watched yet!! 🌱🌸💓 I'm just here to tell you that I am watching this while in the shed taking a break from gardening, getting my pots livened up with kitchen scraps ready to plant! 🥕🧅🫛🥔! Love ya Robbie!! ⛈️💨Big storm coming up this weekend stay safe!! -Nina, Central coast California zone 10A 💪🥰
Love that! I know, they say this storm can be bad, so hard to believe that today looks so beautiful and how it’s gonna change in a few days, Thank you ❤
Last year I was faithfully composting in place with 3 of my big containers. Due to me moving in 2 months, yesterday I started breaking down my garden clean and started packing up my pots and containers. When I poured out all the soil in my big containers I had seen it was nice and rich with earthworms. I called my friend who I got her to compost in place and I told her how composting in place does work. I had to apologize to the earthworms for destroying their homes.
Loved this just like all that you have shared. Today in Southern Oregon we've had rain all day and will tomorrow so that gives me time to think. I've turned our living room into a small green house until I can work outside. I too do things my way or should I say your way and thank you for that. Collecting leaves, food scraps, etc. for my totes. Saved dish pans from hospital stays and can't wait to plant in them (food grade 5).Our broccoli made it through the winter and I've propagated some that are 6" tall already. You're the best and thanks again for all the wonderful ideas. Happy Gardening!!
Your weather would be a major miracle to a Michigander like me. I’m shivering here again. I might just take a leap of faith and move to a warmer climate!
Brilliant, as always, Robbie. I have some of those dish pans from WalMart. I will use your idea!! I love zucchini!! As soon as our rain stops here in PDX area, I will make some tubs to wait for weather to warm up.
Thank you so much Robbie for making these videos. I brought a solder iron because of you and I have been using it like crazy! So much better for me than asking my husband for his drill. Thank you for showing the irrigation tubing in this tote (I also bought the tote because of you 😊) i love it
Thank you for sharing these helpful tips. I love the wire trash can idea! I’m still germinating and sowing some seeds indoors in our zone 6a climate. A good deal of seeds have also been winter sown.
Wow! I just bought the same dishpans last night and was wondering how to set them up for some lettuce and carrots. This video came right on time! Thank you so much for all the wonderful info. Your brain works in a wonderful way. So creative. I was wondering if it smells though as all the scraps, leaves, twigs etc breaks down?
You're spot on with giving the zucchini that huge amount of food scraps. We get zucchini growing out of our compost every summer on their own. They LOVE it!
Robbie, DON'T put your plant on the floor inside because the pup will dig in it! I watched the way she sniffed the air after you put the kitchen scraps in the dish pan. Put the plant in Gary's room for safe keeping! Away from the storm and a pup that looks at it like a buffet! Lol ❤
I love this video! I hope the zucchini is a success. Every time I see you put something on the railing, I wonder how many times something falls off your railing lol. I have a railing like that and I have had to pick up several things that I knock off lol. I set a small bucket of water on it and it fell off, and of course in my direction and I got soaked lol. I learned my lesson pretty fast lol. I cant leave anything on my railing because the squirrels knock it off. I am infested with squirrels lol. ❤😊😊❤
Greetings dear Robbie....I love your videos.. you are blessed with intelligence and you are practically wise ..I have been gardening for a while now and have learnt sooo much from you... Thank you for all that you give...may GOD bless you always.
Cool idea! I am going to do this, and plant 2 zucchini's one with, and one without all the compost to see what happens. I really like the Eight Ball Zucchini's. I use cut off milk cartons to protect young plants at this time of year, with questionable weather (Nor Cal Zone 9B, still getting rain), shoved into the soil they seem to work unless the wind gets really high. Cheers!
I don't know if they are deep enough for vegetables, but Dollar Tree has grey kitty litter plastic pans 18.5 X 13 X 3.5 that are great for putting pots in and bottom watering. Not all the stores carry them but I have several and they work really nice. I too like the dish pans but the kitty litter pans are slightly wider and hold more pots.
The stand is really nice but as soon as I saw the parts you needed I knew it was expensive to make. I have bought many of those connections and I know what they cost! I grow in containers now, so much easier for this 74 year old. You always give us such great ideas! Thank you!
Hi Robbie awesome video. I’m going to plant my black beauty zucchini in my dishpan like you’ve done. Question: I was gifted 6 of the 13.9” black plastic self-watering flower pots from Dollar Tree but I’m told not to plant my veggies in them because the black pots hold too much heat and will cook the roots and kill the plants. Is it true black pots are too hot to use, because I planted onions, lettuce, and small potatoes in them my black dishpans and they were fine? Yes Texas does get pretty hot at times but I really like these pots.
Hey Robbie, I got a couple of the baskets and I was thinking 🤔 💭 I'd like to wrap those mesh baskets with tulle. What do you think would be a good adhesive to use?
It wasn’t from this video but I recently watched one of your videos where you recommended tulle. Well, I went to a thrift store yesterday and found some purple tulle. So for $1.08 I got several yards of tulle and will use it as needed to protect my plants and fruit from the critters that are everywhere here. Thanks for the tip!
I've become a container hoarder because of you, haha! I'm from SoCal, but in the Boston area now. When I started following you guys, I lost 6 lbs, just moving the big bins. Glad to see you! I'm always curious whereabouts in SoCal you are
You might want to zip tie the 4 corners before you fill it with soil - easier to do- I also put a wad of tulle over the holes in the dishpan & carefully fill with soil, keeping the tulle in place so the soil doesn’t fill & plug up the holes😊
Hello Robbie, new to your channel, but I want to grow in containers so watching intently. Now you mentioned power units, bought 3, best purchase ever." What is a power unit? Guess I will google it. Thanks for all the good helpful info!
A power unit a use is a large ‘battery’ mine is 200w I bought from Walmart for under $80, that I can plug in my soldering iron, and use anywhere in the yard. Great for emergency too for lights or charging up phones….and more. Welcome 😊
Thank you for sharing this. Now I'll be looking for dish pans. I'm sure they're easier to move than the totes. Question: do you have a link to the power unit?
Heard that dollar tree will be going from $1.25 to $1.50 sometimes this year. Not sure, also heard that Walmart is fixing to charge people to use their self checks out that if you don’t have a subscription. Might be $100 or less. They are also thinking about setting up time for these people who have a subscription only to use the self check out. Not sure when this will happened. Target also thinking about this ideas. If this happened then a lots of store will do this that has self checks out. Not sure how true this all this is. Just wanted to let you know.
The problem is, after a while, the rough materials that you put on the bottom, decompose, and turn into soil, and block those smallish holes. Your system is quite flawed..
If So California weather this bad.. I guess we don't have to worry about global warming killing us...LOL... In Texas we have warm/hot/cold/windy/cold again..Every day is different, but more cold days than warm, and my little seedling do not like it.. I work outside under screened patio, and this cold weather really doesnt help the plants to grow..
You're the MacGyver of gardening. I love it! 🤗
😊 Thank you ❤️
Thanks for sharing
I literally received more dishpans last night. I finally last year was able to grow lettuce in a dishpan after watching your videos. Looking forward to planting more variety of veggies in them this year. Thank you ☺️
Thank you so very much for even your mistakes. It still gives us food
You are so welcome! 😊 Thank you
I am in total admiration of your cleverness!
Your Cosmos are beautiful.
Oh I love them, thank you ❤
You are making gardening so easy! Thank you so much for all your awesome idea.
Robbie! awesome and amazing as always!!
Thank you so much 😀❤️

Hi Robbie, I'm above the Burbank airport. We're supposed to get ANOTHER atmospheric storm this weekend 3-29 thru 3-31! It's suppose to be bad. WT?
Stay safe everyone.
Robbie you're so right about that soil/ compost, I did my containers like that last year and now my soil is so rich and full of earthworms.
Last year I was faithfully composting in place with 3 of my big containers. That is what I did I lived in Michigan and had enough. Now I am in Arizona where it’s toasty 😂😊
Brilliant, as always, Robbie. I have some of those dish pans from WalMart. I will use your idea!! I love zucchini!! As soon as our rain stops here in PDX area, I will make some tubs to wait for weather to warm up.

Same! I bought one at a dollar store after watching her videos!
Such clever ideas you give us. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing these helpful tips. I love the wire trash can idea!
I’m still germinating and sowing some seeds indoors in our zone 6a climate. A good deal of seeds have also been winter sown.
I really like the idea of the holes in the tote lid to drain and catch water for other plants,
ALWAYS such helpful, clever and thrifty ideas! Thank you both so much. 🌞
Oh, thank You so much ❤️😊
I love this idea for my large containers
Hello Robbie
Hi Debbie
23:44 😂faux spring! Arg! 🤷♀️🌱⛈️🌸
Oh Robby thank you for wonderful ideas. I love the little green house to protect your plants. Enjoy whatching your videos.Stay warm and safe.
Thanks so much!

Your brain works in a wonderful way. So creative. I was wondering if it smells though as all the scraps, leaves, twigs etc breaks down?
Mine doesn't smell once I put the soil on top of the table scraps like Robbie does. I'm so glad she teaches us how to compost in place.
You're spot on with giving the zucchini that huge amount of food scraps. We get zucchini growing out of our compost every summer on their own. They LOVE it!

True, I don’t know what Zoe‘s gonna do, I may just bring it in and put it on a chair 😊 Thanks
I love this video! I hope the zucchini is a success.

If you’re a sewer you can make bags of different sizes out of the tulle & just place over your plants & planters😊
I love watching your videos so when I move and reset up my garden again I'm learning what I can do better from last year gardening.
Wonderful! We all learn and hopefully get better year by year, or at least try new things ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you
Going to get my dish pans ready now. Woo Hoo. This looks like so much fun. You have the best ideas.💗💗🦋🦋 🌺🌺
Hello from Maine 😊

Robbie you are a wealth of information! Ty so much!!
Thank you so much❤
Robbie are you sure the wood chips won’t rob nitrogen from the soil as they continue to break down? Thanks 🙏🏼 and ❤ from Maryland!
wonderful ideas thank for you sri lanka
Great ideas
Thanks, works great for me ❤️😊

Hey Zoey🥰
Robbie thanks for all your ideas . Also I think I’am addicted to your videos 😂

I will have to see if any of the stores I go to have them. I usually look for the “5” under the trays, see if yours has it. Thanks ❤

You may want tp paint the PVC black as the sun will damage it in time.

How about links to the soldering iron and power banks? Thanks!!
What is the power unit you use? And do you have a link to it? Thank you Robbie, I'm just learning gardening in totes.

I nearly fell over when I tried to buy a gallon of paint at walmart- $49. wow.
Paint is so expensive now, I only buy tester paint now, marked down 😊

Interesting, I do not have that issue, but you should make your holes larger.

My daughter says that our Texas weather is bio polar and she’s glad she’s not here right now.
