BEAR COUNTRY! Fall Black Bear Hunting in Maine

A big black bear sneaks into my set real close to dark. Not long before I needed to start heading back to the truck. This black bear hunting video is the story of that hunt. I explain my bear baiting strategies. I talk about and show (with drone footage) the area I'm hunting black bear. I explain why it's "BEAR COUNTRY"!
Fall bear hunting in Maine is a good time. The pre-baiting season on black bear starts in August and the actual bear hunt begins in September. So, the weather is phenomenal. Some of the best hunting weather you'll ever find. Black bear are extremely hungry animals and need around 20,000 calories a day during the fall months, (compared to the 10,000 calories in summer months), to build up those fat reserves before winter torpor. Black bear are extremely intelligent mammals and can rationalize by deciphering what's going on in and around a bait site. They will almost know when you're at the bait each and every time. The black bear will know you're in that tree stand or in that blind when they come into the bait site. What makes them come all the way in is if they are really hungry. If they are not hungry, they most likely will hang up out of range and just check to make sure the food is still there before sauntering off. Black bear almost always has anxiety around bait sites just knowing it's not 100% safe. They are extremely nervous animals. The black bear that get shot at bait sites are those that were hungry enough to not care you were there somewhere. I wish you the best of luck bear hunting.
