  • Brian Eslick from How to Automotive www.howtoautomotive.com/ shows off the M12 FUEL Right Angle Impact Wrench. This is the industry's most powerful right angle impact wrench. With up to 220 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque. It features 4-Mode Drive Control which will allow unmatched control in various fastening and bolt removal applications. Modes 1-3 provide RPM and IPM adjustments for precision control. In Mode 4, this tool is equipped with Auto Shut-off Mode in forward and Bolt Removal Mode in reverse. Auto Shut-off Mode will prevent over-tightening of bolts by applying no more than 15 ft-lbs of torque. Bolt removal mode will provide more control as RPMs drastically slow down once the bolt is loosened. The REDLINK PLUS Intelligence ensures users achieve maximum performance and protects the tool against overloads, over-heating, and over-discharge.

looks like it does an excellent job for what it was designed for. it will allow you to remove bolts in hard to reach places that don't exactly need as much power to remove as a gun impact would have. mine arrived yesterday.

Its great for your upper rear shock mounts. They only get put down at 20 ft lbs. It eliminates the need for a wrench to keep nut from spinning. Stubby 3/8 will also do just as good.

Mighty fine demo, thank you! It appears their is a market need for a really powerful right angle impact. This unit does quite a bit and like you said it apparently has a limit to about a 14mm fastener, which covers a heck of a lot of ground under the hood. I have wanted one just for exhaust manifold fasteners but do not know if it would have the oomph the break those nasty rusted bolts and nuts.

Great review. Real world use is the type of thing I need. I don't expect this thing to change lug nuts on my full size truck. I need it for bolts under the hood and in places where my big impact won't work. (like exhaust manifold bolts on my 5.3 GM)

As far as the larger fasteners, if you use the bigger battery it might be able to handle them. The larger battery has higher amperage so therefore it's able to deliver more power. Maybe that's a route to explore for the next video.

As someone who is trying not to buy every tool Milwaukee makes, I got this hoping it will do the job of two tools, at least most of the time. So, while I am interested in max torque, I am also interested in doing lighter stuff quickly but somewhat delicately…so far so good! Using mode 1 and trigger control I have been able to do small stuff that I used to do with my old off brand, now mostly dead, cordless ratchet!

They are good tools to have. I have the ingersol rand 20v right angle and honestly i don't use it much. But when i need it its great! Upper control arm bolts are a common thing i use a right angle impact for. Speed is key and all, add rust and even the most powerful power ratchet gets caught up alot. Anyway these tools are no substitute for a regular impact or a cordless ratchet! A great ayou ddition to your tools but they should be purchased AFTER you have a ratchet and impact in that size.

Hi, this video was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the upload. I bought a M12 FIR38LR (75NM) to undo a 21mm rear shock bolt. It’s got no guts. I can hold the socket tight in my fist and it can’t turn the socket. It has no power. Apparently this is normal , so the head distribution place in UK says. After watching this tool, maybe this would not do it either. The right hand rear shock access is tight with the exhaust in the way. Last time it took me hours with a manual ratchet. Was so looking forward to using my brand new tool.

It took 11 secs to remove it with a twisted split ring washer 1/8 inch thick set at 200 ft lbs, simulating rust situation pretty much. With split ring washer removed, I stepped it up to 220 ft lbs, and it took it off in under 2 secs....suprised me how fast it came off (using 1/2 inch model). Used heavy sockets (reg length), they make a difference.....hit harder, like sledge vs regular hammer.

I made sure it was tight on the bolt and was excited to pull the trigger! I push the button with all my strength and the Tool began to impact!!! To my surprise!!! The Bolt did NOT budge one bit!!!! It's because it's the 3/8 version with the smaller battery and he used a small impact socket, then added an extension - all those things will absolutely kill impact torque. I have the 1/2 version with an xc6.0 battery and took 19mm nuts fastened to 145ft/lbs off my front struts with no issue with a deep well impact socket. 21mm 90ft/lb lug nuts and 90ft/lb control arm nuts with some rust were not a challenge either - all flew off after a few impacts.

If you get the 6.0 battery its a big difference I’ve used it on suspension, exhaust and lugs works great so far

Milwaukee are very smart. They always release small torques first after we buy it all then they let the big torque out . So if I buy this one I don’t need the others

If you use 5 amp battery, you will gain a lot of power

I mean at some point it starts getting a bit ridiculous, having to carry around 3 power tools just to remove one part from the car. 98% you can do with a mid torque and decent adapters.

if you use the 1/2 version you get more work done. half inch sockets hit harder than 3/8s sockets .not opinion if its science

I think Milwaukee is reaching with the new ratchets. I don't think they justify the power and cost compared to older series. The ratchet head is also not going to fit in most places that people need them to fit into. I would only buy it if you can't live without it. I am personally going to save my money.

These aren't new ratchets though. It's basically their M12 stubby impact wrench in a similar case as the ratchet. It does seem like it's rare though that you'd need to use this specific tool, instead of the stubby or the fuel ratchet.

    • @kaimingleung1396

Honestly I think it's a great tool for someone who doesn't already have the stubby. Like if you don't already have the M12 stubby and you're deciding between the two, then this is the definitely the tool to get unless you really don't like the ratchet form factor or you're using it in a non-automotive setting where clearance is not so much an issue.
I'd also say that the 1/2, hog/friction-ring version of this tool is the one to get for ease of use and maximum effectiveness. Get the bare tool and at least an xc4.0 battery as well.
Like I wanted to get the stubby, but I waited for this to come out and I'm glad I did. I see no reason for me to get the M12 stubby now, the 3/8 fuel ratchet and the 1/2 right angle impact are the go-to-tools in my bag with an 18" 1/2 ratcheting breaker from Harbor Freight and a 1/4 ratchet as a situational backups.

Well that’s disappointing. You demonstrated it in wide open circumstances and in tight spaces it still wouldn’t fit. What about if you need to remove a harmonic balancer w/o having to take the front end off? Too big? Seems so.

Have one in 1/2 drive. Torque is extremely weak...nowhere near 220 ft-lb advertised. Wouldn't break out a measured 105 ft-lb bolt. Has 85 ft-lb effort at most regardless of setting

Why are people even trying to use the (ratchet) to break fasteners free. Just because it has a (torque) rating? Try it with a air ratchet, LOL and crush your knuckles.. Ratchets are ratchets, they don't impact. That's why this tool is a RIGHT ANGLE IMPACT and the ratchet not a called a impact ratchet

Free tool and very limited need for it. Almost every bolt you took out could have been done with the stubby or fuel 3:8 ratchet and a lot lighter
