The Penguin isn’t just good, it’s exceptional. I haven’t felt this way about a show since Breaking Bad, I haven’t felt this way about a TV comic book adaptation since Netflix’s Daredevil.
In addition to the sensational writing, directing, and cinematography; Colin Farrell is doing some of the best work of his or ANY career. This performance is legendary. It’s some of the best acting I have seen. Period.
The world building for not just our title character but for Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, or Rhenzy Feliz’s Victor or for GOTHAM ITSELF (and DC Comics) is all top of its class.
I adore this show.
It’s everything I had hoped for and more
(Which is high praise after Matt Reeves The Batman set the bar somewhere in the stratosphere)
The Penguin is an upcoming American crime drama television miniseries created by Lauren LeFranc for HBO. Based on the DC Comics character Penguin, it is a spin-off from the film The Batman (2022) that explores the Penguin's rise to power in Gotham City's criminal underworld. LeFranc serves as the showrunner of the series, which is produced by DC Studios in association with Warner Bros. Television.
So many studios and channels and conventions and people have made a name for themselves off of adapting comics, and I love that. But I also love these weekly adventures in a medium I adore. So its time to celebrate them.

Cooked?? Call your wife and see if she answers...Oz got me laughing with that one 😂
Find someone that looks at you like Spidey looks at Coy
This is admittedly the bar. :) love my baby boy and vice versa
I literally was going to make the exact same comment!
I was reading the comments whilst listening to you, scrolled back up... then had to rewind & watch from the start when I realised your cat had been in your arms the whole time. So cute!😃
Snap!

The showdown is about to be epic!
I love Coy so much. This man deserves 100k
Hi coy! It was so nice to see you at comic con this weekend! I’m the girl in the orange blossom cosplay with the cane who saw you in the hallway as you were running to a panel.😊 I showed my friend your page after we ran into you.
I'm surprised at how much I am enjoying this show because mafia shows/movies usually aren't my cup of tea.
Dude! Love your cat!
The complexity of these characters are mind boggling. The fact the writing has me loathing a character one moment and then feeling compassion for them another is brilliant. The humanity is so nuanced and something other writers should really study. Another great episode. I totally agree sofia feels like a joker esque character and Julian feels a bit Harley quinn like. I like how they are honoring the batman world in unique ways... the ending was such a Penguin throwback and the smoke surrounding him while watching the maroneys burn reminded me of an animated image of him I've seen before.
Excellent ride!! Catch you next Sunday!!
Yo!! This episode had me on the edge of my seat….. I was so wrapped in the show so many different things going on, loved it!!
Dayum she didn't have to drop it on his blood. Banks take bloody dollar bills?
Other independent merchants/businesses in places like Crown Point most likely will… it’ll be much of the same notes, recirculating.
Every week, I come here from the credits of the episode and Coy never fails me
:) this makes me happy
Spidey-Cat just watching you talk for like half the video was just wholesome.
The show is excellent. I figured it would be good going in, but god damn.
I love the idea that Sofia is the joker archetype! This show is so damn smart!
Awesome to meet you today Coy, just wish I didn't have 3 chins in the selfie I took 😂. Safe trip home and I hope you had a great NYCC.
I'll be back after episode 5 airs
Here we are!
For an episode that is more or less a setting of the table for the final conflicts, it was pretty good. I was expecting a bit more of oz's backstory via his mom.
I think he let it slip to his girl where he was headed, and i think between sal and sofia they go to get her next which will lead them to oz's mom. Oz losing his mom will be the catalyst to push him to full on peguin. We have seen glimpses of him doing that when he killed Alberto and in this episode burn Sal's wife and son. The combo of the bliss supply and his mother dying cuz his girl lead his enemies there is what will push him into full on villainy.
Really curious to how dark they go cuz Colin Farrell has said after what he does in episode 8 he could NEVER love oz as a character. So it seems the last episode is when he full on snaps...
Sorry Coy...wasn't listening....too distracted with your adorable cat!❤❤❤ What an episode this one! And I thought last week had been the best. Not anymore for me!
Yes! Didn't know you had a channel, liked and subscribed. Oz is with his back to the wall and his plan to get his rivals to eat each other has backfired. We're going to see him become the supervillain, especially after watching Sal's son and wife burn alive in front of him.
This episode lit me up like Maroni mama.
Hey Coy was wondering if you noticed that Oz says to Eve "Vic's got us a place next to the Zoo" meaning that Gotham Zoo was in Crown Point and is right next to them, so likely above the Penguin hideout like in Batman Returns!!! Also it would have been wrecked in the flood and it's about to get snowy in Gotham, so it'll be run down and frozen over exactly like in Burton's version, what an homage from Reeves!!!!
While Cobb’s most impressive quality is his ability to think on his feet, it’s been his biggest downfall. He’s playing speed chess while everyone else has time to make their moves.
Also imagine how compelling of a scene it would be if Selina and Sophia talked about their father and how it made them the people they have become.
Sure though well formed plans also rely heavily upon a set path, Cobb constantly switching paths to help further the ultimate goal is a harder thing to dismantle because he’s willing to do anything to achieve it.
Sofia has embraced that now by forming an alliance, it’s definitely interesting to see neither side is really on top now, they’re both at their lowest point but also have the most potential moving forward.
cute cat! looks like the one we got
Excellent show remains excellent
The Rush/Sophia scene in the bedroom was perhaps the worst scene in the show so far. Completely out of left field and pulled me out of the show for a minute. I don't think they gave a proper lead up to that turn at all.
Aside from that, best show I've seen in years. Love the content!
Colin Farrell Best Actor 😍🫡
Writing this before I've watched this whole video, but it was SO sick that Oz gets his underground / sewer base at the end of the episode!
I have not been caring for Victor until this episode, he seemed out of place and almost forced in this series, but I think he will be used at the end to solidify Penguin as a villain by him being sacrificed or killed by OZ, victor is a nice kid who the audience has grown to empathize with and his death will be heartbreaking
Do you think Theo Rossi’s character (Dr. Julian Rush) is going to be Hugo Strange? I can see it especially after this episode. I hope if he isn’t than Julian works with Hugo in the future and maybe even Jonathan Crane. Would be good connections for Sofia.
Great review Coy!!!
The Penguin is so cool, how he’s the main character, and he goes between protagonist and antagonist so beautifully!! How Sofia is just so crazy, so evil, but it’s totally understandable within her backstory and the circumstances she had to experience.
Could you see Batman 2 taking inspiration from Batman: War Games story arc.
Cosy cat so distracting 🐱 (looks at Coy with such love)
Boom, solid video as always, Coy. Tried to watch your reaction, always do, but the Oz impersonating was way over the top this week. Hard to watch 😂😂😂
He won’t take it poisernal. 😅
I definitely think this is Oz's lowest point from which he'll build himself back up from. Not only from the emotional lows of being rebuffed by his mother, "girlfriend" and having to retreat to the squalor of Crown Point, but also exposing the depravity of his character, the way he murdered Salvatore's wife and son, the glee and spite, it's all in him. I think the bliss mushrooms will bear fruit though and become the bedrock of his new venture and powerbase. Victor's old acquaintance, Squid, will either be a stepping stone for him to test his mettle against, likely "coached" by Oz's mother, or Oz might try to bring him in as a new apprentice and a rivalry will ensue for Oz' validation.
Sofia was great (so hot) from beginning to end; the may she's managed to marshal her rage and direct it in brilliantly cunning ways, time and again, truly makes her stand out as an intelligent villain/antagonist who had nothing but time to plot their revenge and accension when the opportunity arose. Just as Oz is a quick witted master manipulator in the short term, Sofia is his foil as a composed, long view thinker with a supreme BS detector. I'd gladly hang on her arm like Dr Rush.
Really appreciate your insights, Coy. I see you offering your shrewd, articulate and enthused opinions on other channels, so I'm glad you're making strides on your own. All the best.
honestly i see Oz as more as the antagonist than Sophia.
also this episode was particularly violent.
This show doesnt need Batman were getting the untold stories the people of Gotham City that Batman overlooks
What if you read or talk about Batman the Long Halloween for Halloween? 🤔🤔
How many seasons is this supposed to be? And 10 episodes?
One and eight.
Coy might’ve uploaded this by mistake. Title says ep 6
Thanks man! Appreciate it. Typo
Two hours before the show!
Time zone error so glad I caught it within like 90seconds appreciate it
How are you watching it early

Typo in title?
Yup! Thanks for heads up
IGN reviews are ridiculous sometimes 🤔
I take no pleasure in this bc I loved the first 3 episodes and the ending to the 4th episode but honestly I feel episode 5 is fucking awful.
What don’t you like about it?
@@DialloMoore503 the dialogue wasn’t just expository, they constantly stated things we already know and stated it blandly too.
Mob stuff works bc then mob uses subtle language in case someone’s listening. This didn’t even scratch the surface of subtlety or nuance to any degree this played like an AI wrote it with you. Like Penguin needs a base, they’re inside a base and he “yea so this is our new base!” Like how dumb do they think we are???? I honestly feel we shouldn’t accept that level of patronizing dialogue.
Thx for asking.

That’s understandable and valid. I still enjoyed it, though.
@@DialloMoore503 I mean that’s fine but it was pretty terrible in as objective a sense as can be and I loved the starting eps
