I've done this last year, and besides my parents, I don't recall anyone reaching out. I had moved cities at the time, so I didn't know that many people then. It sucked to remember that, but it works as a reminder that I am in charge of my reality. Good one as always, Denmo

Feels weird because I spent the day reflecting on my life and the areas of my life I want to better myself in. Parties can be fun, but today was for sure a unique one. I truly enjoyed it. Solitude is a completely different thing than loneliness. I've been practicing solitude for the last few years. Yes, it's something we have to practice, bc society programs into you that you should celebrate, get married, have kids, that formal education is the way to go, etc...all the stuff that's not even necessary when most of us just need to focus inward and get our minds right before any of that will even feel like a milestone or accomplishment.
I feel they're things of enjoyment. Whether or not you personally enjoy it is another story. So you either celebrate it for you, or you don't.
My birthday will be in a couple of hours. What Jack talks about had been my life for years. Lonely birthdays and not even a birthday wish from my 'best friends', they did not care enough to remember. It made me so cynical about friendships that I went Lone Wolf and shunned people, because I realized I had no real friends, just 'people cool to hang with'.
After one of those lonely birthdays I decided upon a one year endeavor of trying to find and create real friendships. And last year, for the first time in my life, I got a birthday wish from a friend. Birthday wishes from three friends to be exact. And after all those lonely years, those wishes brought tears to my eyes man. I am so grateful for having these people in my life, because up until now they have proven to be REAL FRIENDS.

Doesn't have to be a holiday or birthday for you to have a good day when you can have a good day everyday when you develop your lifestyle and socializing. Or have a nice picnic at the park by yourself or go bowling. Get some sun. A day to feel young. Good day to be you.
Ive done the whole thing with not letting anyone know it was my birthday for the past few years just to see what happens. Consistently it has been two people. The same two mates ive been through every up and down I can remember with. No one else outside of family cares- or rather, cares without having to. I choose to think of them as family to some degree as well. Those are my real friends and the ones I put the most effort and time towards if they need it. Find you those couple that care and stick with them.
I've been doing this since 2020, and I tell you it really make me feel much more freer than before. Not only you can see who can remember your bday but you also eliminate the ones who send HB just to be polite.
I have always hated my birthday. I turned 22 a week ago and I’ve never had a birthday with friends. When I had social media I was lucky to get more than one happy birthday from FB friends that weren’t family, and out of my family only my parents and grandparents have ever acknowledged the day. Every year I ask my parents not to get me any gifts for my birthday but they never seem to listen even when I don’t reciprocate. This video put a sour taste in my mouth as I find it incredibly tone deaf for one like you to complain about loneliness. You don’t know true loneliness. A lesser person might’ve killed themself living in my shoes and to be honest I often questioned why I haven’t taken my own life by this point.

Before 18 I've always hate when it's close to my birthday. Just by seeing all my friends throwing parties, Social media celebrations, interactions this and that. Always comparing how happy those guys feel compared to mine. The night that I turned 19 tear randomly built up in that time it also in Pandemic. I feel so lonely I quietly sobbing because my mom was behind me even though I didn't make a sound she walked to me and give a little talks about this subject. She told me that
"Our family might not treats birthday as a special day but we will always cares about you". That was so uplifting it entirely changes my perspective on birthday.

Today is my birthday. I'm not planning on celebrating my birthday. A friend of mine called me for wishing and all. We are pretty close to each other(i kind of like him ig). He started encouraging me to celebrate birthday. And I'm a person who has to put atleast 12-14 hrs of their day to studying. When I told him that there are a lot of things that I priorities over celebrating my birthday, he said just because you only study for the whole day and don't do anything else that is the reason you always crack lame jokes. You have become lazy and kind of said that that you need to make friends and joy your life to the fullest. I know he said those things to make me enjoy my day a Lil more but it hurt me. I don't know why but it did. Instead of being appreciated for the way I'm, I got told that I'm lazy and childish. I have a lot of things to do with my life. I'm crying. I wish he would know that he made me cry on my birthday.

It's a funny concept to me that you would originally tell people and remind them of your birthday. Personally never did that, it's always been a matter of me never talking about it and letting people remember it or not and wish me happy birthday had they wanted to.

Denmo, this video was actually really valuable for me because this video was posted on my birthday ALSO without watching this video I experienced the things you told in the video. I didn’t tell people if it was my birthday, and to be honest I didn’t also feel like celebrating my birthday due to some family situations and there were just some really good friends and only my family who celebrated it, which first I was a bit sad about it but it made me see from completely another perspective. 4 days after my birthday and seeing this video felt like it is a sign for me lol

I thought I was the only one content to skip birthday celebrations. People keep asking me what I plan to do. I would rather just chill and not be bothered with the drama that goes along with the various personalities, drinking, and shenanigans that go on at parties. I will do a few one on one meet ups with people I trust and respect, but that's it.

Today, March 15th 2024, is my 26th birthday, the first time in my life, I celebrated my birthday alone... Just me and my favorite ramen... Only my Mom, my Dad and my brother who greeted me... My highschool friends? Gone, my coworkers at my workplace? They don't give a sh*t, some of them only said "happy birthday", because my boss said "happy birthday Mr. Aji"....

If people wish me I say thank you but I'm usually home, chilling, I make sure to order something fun to eat and just let the day be. I'm learning to find joy in my own darn self. I've always done alot for people and gotten the bare minimum in response but I'm no longer going to stress over it because I'm too old for that type of ish. I'm going with the flow as much as possible. Life is too short to stress over things like that so I agree. And often times your so called friends except you to plan ish nah I'm good I'll be home and asleep 😂.

Yo this does make sense in a way but I also don't remember my best friends birthday while they do remember mine. You could say that it's because I don't care about them enough, but that's clearly not it. The fact is that I love my friends for who they are, and birthday is just a day which as no importance to me (I also don't really care about my birthday). Birthday should be celebrated but not for the sake of celebrating, but to reconnect with your closest friends. I'm always busy, and this is an excuse to all meet up again

I just find it incredibly hypocritical because nobody actually cares about you and it's all just a forced ritual. On my birthday I avoid contact with anyone and I simply try to reflect on where I am in life. My goal is for everyone to forget about it and have no one send me any wishes but there are still my parents and a friend or two who do. Is this a common thing to remind everyone else about your birthday in Canada or USA? It feels like we dont have such thing in Russia. I mean ofcourse people post some B-day photos afterall, but i dont remember a single time when my parents, or relatives, or any friend said EVER somehting like "hey its my B-day soon / today, don`t forget to give me a wish!"

I hate birthdays, and I've been actively hiding it for the last 15 years. Not because I don't have friends. But because of the whole ordeal around it. Will this or that person come? They _said_ they'd come! Oh, they're not coming? Oh well, I guess I'll just scale it down or whatever. So, I was never popular. And that never bothered me. Until my f-ing birthday... Because there are so many expectations surrounding birthdays. And that's like on the _one_ day that's supposed to be MY day. So now it's TRULY my day. Because now I'm the only one who knows when it is. (Except my parents and really close friends. They still call me, and that's cool.)

When i was 20 years old i stopped untill now make my birthday so special. Now i am 24 years old and still ignoring my birthday because three reasons and one is i won't get the things i want now for adults, two i am too old for birthday and three is that i don't like to wish someone Happybirthday cause i don't belive in wishes and that's may be fair if everybody not gonna wish me birthday and i shall wish to anyone birthday.
My family always remembers my birthday! One of my favorite supervisors at work remembers my birthday. This year I worked on my birthday (March 3), I went half the day of my shift without any coworkers wishing me ‘happy birthday’. But then my favorite supervisor wished me ‘happy birthday’ and my other supervisor who was in the same room didn’t know my birthday was that day and that I was going almost the whole day without anyone wishing me ‘happy birthday’. Then everyone started giving me birthday wishes after that on our walkie talkies. I was hella embarrassed!

One of the worst feelings in the world was when my best friend turned girlfriend, forgot it was my birthday. She didn't even buy me gift.

It's a sad truth, but you're right. I haven't gotten a birthday wish outside of my family or best friend in at least 5 years. The people that need to know how I celebrate are there, and the care is a two-way street. Not so much when you do anything for status.
I did this a few years ago, I deleted my date of birth from Facebook, and immediately when it was my birthday, no one wrote or called me, it's very interesting to find out how many people congratulated you on that day, at most a couple of closest friends and immediate family
