I saw this interview with Theo Parrish where he talked about people placing too much importance on mixing and how when people do it becomes about ego at that point. He said mixing is important and you gotta learn how to do it, but DJing is more about track selection and creating and endless stream of music so the dancing doesn't stop. Kyle Hall does that beautifully in this video.

I have a compulsion to have my mixes be clean all the time, but as a listener I don't mind the occasional off-mix when the whole set itself is quality in terms of selection, vibe, progression and creativity. I saw Richie Hawtin the other weekend and his mixing was always 100% (i know he plays digitally) but it was so damn soulless and robotic. Every track sounded nearly the same. It was all very clean and "perfect" but a really boring and uninspiring set. In other words, mixing ain't everything.
Hey, Kyle Hall we all love you and support you...Hope that is a priceless statement...and want only the best for you...Your family: the Hannas, the Goldens, the Davis, the Griffins....God bless you....
I missed him in my city about 3 weeks ago, was really ashamed, there are a lot of good DJ's, but since he often plays sets with deep house he's one of my favorite. He's very literate in his musicality and how he delivers a consistent beat for your enjoyment.
I think you've got a valid point there. I definitely enjoy a richer, fuller musical experience to a technically perfect one, but when out dancing I often like the precision and sheen of a technically perfect set. That said, Boiler Room is primarily designed to be streamed via Soundcloud and RUclips. It's like Dommune in Tokyo where only a few guests are invited in because it's more about the web presence. When listening at home or work I prefer the shaky vinyl to a soulless set.
What is all this negativity about mixing and vinyl vs digital nonsense? I heard Kyle Hall play a few months ago and he never missed a beat for three hours. His mix was an education in style and track selection. Go and see the guy if you like him as a producer support his music. Rick Wilhite played on the same boiler room night in Detroit and he had problems mixing as well maybe it was a technical problem.Enjoy the music guys and girls learn from his selection of tracks.
Brilliant point, i'm always having this argument about what dj's use, its not what you use its the tracks your playing and if the tunes are rubbish, the crowd aren't going to dance, at the end of the day that's what its all about, not how you get there :)
Hi, sample is from Chaka Khan "Stop On By" which is a cover of Bobby Womack "You're Welcome, Stop On By" though I can't find the version played here. If you do, tell me! Btw track that starts at 14:37 is Blackjoy - Untitled (Kerri Chandler Bigga Mix) Any help with the previous one? Cheers!
Thanks for finding the sample mate, let me add the remix: The Popular Peoples Front - Stop On By (Leo Zero Edit) watch?v=7ulhrP90AKM , but it's not the same exactly, Kyle has probably re-edited the version.
So true, saw him at Plastic People, awesome music, pitiful mixing...and unfortunately it does kind of matter, it's just a distraction when you hear horse trotting when going from one track to the next
Nicolas Derudder Nicholas I don't believe its the Leo Zero edit either, but wasn't able to find anything. However, when the power comes back on at 28:45 in the video, it sounds like the track starts playing again but at 33rpm for a split second, and then he hits 45rpm. I'm not certain, but that might make sense if it was in fact the Leo Zero edit. Otherwise, someone else put that gem together.

woooooord, humans do make mistakes - why should a handmixed set 100%? Nina Kravitz ones said: Nothing is perfect, and when it is - it's boring
Your good at dj
Older boiler room sets always go hard

nothing better than seeing people dancing at a boiler room event for a change (:

that final unknown track is nuts

Still here after almost a decade
No excessiveness in his djing. It's perfect. That's probably why vinyl djing tends to sound better.
I’m not gonna lie, a bit of a rough start for me, but after the second record, I knew I wasn’t going nowhere. Beautiful music.
Still banging
