I wear a retro lid, Merlin waxed cotton, and have been riding 70s UJMs and BMWs for over 30 years. Is that okay with you guys? Will you please accept me and grant me validity in your eyes?
Living in michiga when i need gear i go down the road to sportbike track gear. However when i need good info there is no channel better than this! Keep up the good work man
The leather shell on the shoes is your waterproof membrane. Just get yourself some Kiwi shoe polish paste in the correct color, and shine the shoes on the regular. It's how militaries have been waterproofing their boots for decades upon decades.
the bixby looks great and i love the touchscreen capability. does it have decent scaphoid area protection though? i cant tell if the palm padding is more decorative than protective. do you have any recos for a still retro looking glove with touchscreen capability AND scaphoid protection? after having a minor spill and fracturing the scaphoid that took 4 months to heal, i'm not eager to repeat that!
RyanF9: Maybe for future videos when you reference your older vids, annotate links to them? Or at least include them in the description? Great video as usual though. Now I'm considering that Joe Rocket jacket.
Great vid as usual. Have you ever tried any StylMartin gear? I got a pair of their retro urban sneakers, and I must say they are incredible. Around $100 (maybe less, got them in Denmark and our prices are typically higher than US). They have full heel/toe/ancle protection, extra material on shifter area, and all blended seamlessly with the overall design. They even snuck in a small reflective band on the rear, but you wouldn't know from a quick glance. They are also waterproof (as waterproof as sneakers get). Sometimes I even wear them daily even when I don't ride. If you haven't tried anything from this brand, I can only recommend them if you ever do a similar retro/urban style vid :)
I assume you only review gear that is for sale at Fort Nine, and that's why we don't get to see anything from, say,RS Taichi,or any of the more obscure, but excellent European brands, like Richa,or Furygan.Shark make fabulous helmets, for example. It's a pity because your reviews are great to watch, just a bit limited, seeing the same brands all the time.I guess it all boils down to economics. After all, there is a big Fort Nine logo at the beginning of the video,so what should we expect? The vlogs and travel videos are fun too, even though I don't live in Canada.or even the northern hemisphere. But never say never in MotorcycleWorld!I may get there one day.Anyhow,congratulations.It's not many channels I bother to subscribe to,and God knows there's no shortage of them out there!Good luck, and stay upright.
So how difficult would it be for companies that offer ADV helmets, to make the bill/visor easily removable with snaps??? I dont see a downside to them. For example, my MX-9 ADV requires you to remove three knobs and carry a pair of adapters if you want to remove the visor (say for an extended highway run and you want to be more comfortable...this helmet is actually quite smooth running without the visor)
I wouldn't wear the MX-9. If you hit something or get a branch under the visor snaps, well, unsnap. Screws and such however try to rip your head off and break your neck in the process.
@@marvindebot3264 THIS!! They put MIPS in the helmet, yet the "lever" of the visor will tear that helmet around faster than any direct impact on the shell.
I do not understand his argument against the non-closing vents for the Bell. Don't matter when there is no visor. If anything, it'd be nice if the vents were bigger with the addition of exhaust vents.
Hey Ryan is there an update version of this in the works? I was digging the X wave but its in closeout sale now soooo ya none for my size. If there isn't an update coming, can you try to refer me to some boots, gloves and helmet that would go with a red XSR700. Thanks!!!!
It's a comfort/safety thing. The X-Wave is *way* more comfortable to walk and wear. Meanwhile the X-Street and Street Ace are safer but more rigid. Personally, when it comes to riding shoes, I'd rather get something comfortable. For bulletproof safety I just get a proper full-height riding boot. ~RyanF9
Can you do a video on helmet shell sizes? I'm a small guy and most of the helmets make me look like a bobble head! There is very little information on this online. I'm told more manufacturers are offering more shell sizes today which only makes sense to offer the same protection for all head sizes. Which manufacturers offer the most shell size options?
and what do you think about the biltwell gringo? I mean you did a video about it(i think), but you already did one about the bell as well. So why isn't it in the list?
I assume its because its gear of 2017. The Gringo(and S version) aren't new. I love the look of the Gringo(S) but it felt like there wasn't anything there compared to my Scorpion. The padding was nice, but thin and the helmet had a ton of flex to it. Also, I think its better suited for people with short, round faces. I have a pretty long head so my chin stuck out the bottom a decent amount. Didn't make feel quite as protected.
anyone know if the Steel City jacket is available in Europe? Can't find it for sale anywhere accept fortnine and they don't ship internationally. It's not even on the Joe rocket website...
When I ride In drastic weather conditions like 40 degrees Fahrenheit hahaha. (Pretty cold to us Californians) most of my gear is my dads and it’s from the 70’s or 80’s. I got some giant fluffy leather gloves and some huge leather chaps that are for bell bottoms. Honestly the leather chaps block the wind soo damn good it feels like there is no wind at all but I’d hate to be seen with them. Haha. It’s crazy that these old guys wore those tiny helmets with glasses and nothing else for hours and hours and didn’t mind the wind beating the shit out of their faces. I remember wearing one for the first time i rode my dads Harley dynaglide (now my dynaglide RIP poppa) from San Francisco to Sacramento and I was miserable. It was the middle of the night freezing cold. I was laying down on the bike using the tiny head fairing to block the wind from my face. Than I had to ride back the next day. I couldn’t get a hold of a full face. So i made a bandana out of a old sweatshirt put a beanie on and squeezed my head in to the tiny brain bowl helmet that he had. It sucked both ways. I rode with a full face every freeway ride after that.
and here I am thinking that my 90s volvo is too safe.... safety is no concern for me, I don't care. I just want to have a good time, being comfortable and looking good doing it.
Very comfy, very light, simple, *way* more reasonably priced than the Bell Bullitt (which I hate). I actually own one and enjoy wearing it. Not the safest full face in the world, mind you. ~RF9
Interesting, what is it do you not like about the Bell Bullitt? I've been considering this bucket and all the specs look good on paper minus apparently loud wind noise, but since I wear custom molded earplugs that might be less of a factor.
I cannot stand gloves with that Velcro strap... right now I am using a pair of Icon Anthem Bender gloves that you featured in one of your past videos... They aren't the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn... but there aren't many options for shorty slip on gloves with no Velcro strap.
Sizing on the Bell Moto III is *crap!* Be uber-careful if buying online. I normally wear a XS helmet, yet I needed a size *Large (!)* in the Moto III design. _Warning!_ It's too late for me to return my (expensive!) size Small for a larger replacement. Big mistake by Bell on this helmet design! I'm totally disappointed.
Admit you almost called this video "gear for cafe racers, hipsters and stuff"
I admit it. ~RF9
and people who don't care about their faces getting ripped off if they fall with an open faced helmet

Canadian in granny sweater shows me stuff I didn't know I needed. Keep it up Ryan fantastic as always!
I picked up a Scorpion Belstaff on sale and it is now my favorite helmet for summer riding. It is comfortable and super light.

I have those Rayburn boots. I wear them all the time even when not riding. Super comfort and stylish
