Both Zorro’s outfits are actually *very different* when you look closely. The costume designers wanted Hopkins’ outfit to display his Diego’s *Spanish* heritage, while Alejandro’s showcases his *Mexican* ancestry. Diego’s has a velvet ribbon on the Hat, heeled boots, shiny metal clasps for the Cape, the gloves flare out much more and overall have cleaner and more “classic” European styles. Alejandro’s Hat has a Tribal pattern, thinner Gloves yet a far more open shirt, a duller and dustier Cape string yet his Boots have Cowboy-Esque stirrups on them similar to ones that characters from Western movies have.

I liked how you mentioned Batman at the beginning when it showed Zorros secret lair. In the comics the Waynes had gone to see Zorro at the movies when his parents were killed and Batman took inspiration from Zorro in his superhero persona. Also, another cool bit of info, Antonio Banderas character is based on an actual Mexican bandit/freedom fighter who would go on to be the inspiration of the fictional Zorro. And the captain was also based on a real American captain who actually did keep heads in jars.
@@robertslaten8015 The most funny thing is Diego De La Vega, the original Zorro and his family are Spanish while Alejandro is Mexican…yet Banderas’s actually Spanish.
Some facts: Anthony Hopkins learned how to use a whip and was really proficient. That really was him whipping out the candles. In fact, he got in trouble for practicing the whip outside the studio because the crack was interupting the other actors. At the start of the final fight with Captain Love, Antonio Banderas nailed that moment when light reflects off his sword with every single take. Catherine Zeta-Jones has admitted she genuinely got aroused while filming the stable fight. Background : Zorro was introduced in a magazine story in 1919, and there have been dozens of versions since in books, movies, TV shows, and comics. Almost all of them feature Diego De La Vega, the character played by Anthony Hopkins in this film; most of them have him resisting the corrupt governor of Spanish California before 1821 when Mexico declared its independence. That's why the film opens with Rafael leaving California, because he's handing over his authority to the Mexican government. In this film Alejandro Murieta becomes the new Zorro, and it's set 20 years later so California is ruled by Mexico rather than Spain. The sequel is set 10 or 15 years later (I think) and Alejandro calls himself De La Vega.
Aww, Magy crying. Sweet young lady, I'm sorry you hurt so. I am happy you loved the movie, though. You will love the movie: "The Count of Monte Cristo" with Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel.
0:40 Reminds you of Puss in Boots, you say? Well, it's even better when you realize Antonio Banderas voices Puss in Boots when Shrek 2 came out years after this film. There's a lot of literal hat nods animated in Shrek that directly reference Zorro.
I got in trouble a lot when covid started and we were told we had to wear masks!!! I wore the Zorro mask the whole time and I got kicked out of every place I went to!!! I technically wasn't wrong!!!
The only time Tornado would ever let Zorro jump on his back is in the sequel..But only 'cause he was busy smoking a pipe ( Yes really!) someone had tossed over the balcony! It;s just as much fun as the first, so you may want to watch it in the future!
Thank you especially for reacting to the song at the end, the female half of that duet is Tina Arena, an Australian singer we watched grow up on television.
So glad you absolutely loved this! No surprise there. It had everything you need in a Magy movie. The romance was pretty sizzling for you. I remember really enjoying another adventure movie with Antonio called Once Upon a time in Mexico. (With Johnny Depp?) yeah, you would probably enjoy it as well.
I remember the day I saw at the cinema. Walking home afterwards I was really irked I didn't have an umbrella with me - it was a fine and clear day - because I was so hyped from the film I wanted to do nothing but make Z's with a sword.
Thank Magy! This is one of my favorite movies, and so few reactors do this one. - This was the film that put Catherine Zeta Jones (Elena) on the map. She had made films before but either low-budget or TV movies that didn't get a lot of attention. The dancing sequence is just a hit of one of Catherine's many talents. Years after this, she would win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Velma Kelly in the movie musical Chicago (2002) with Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere. She appears in many of the biggest songs in the film like All That Jazz, Cellblock Tango, I Can't Do It Alone, the finale Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag, and sings the end credit song I Move On with Renee Zellweger. The movie won 6 Oscars in all, including Best Picture. If you haven't seen Chicago...it's amazing! - Both Catherine Zeta Jones and Anthony Hopkins are from Wales. - The director of this film has handled another action icon. Martin Campbell directed the first appearance of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in GoldenEye (1995), as well as the first appearance of Daniel Craig as Bond in Casino Royale (2006). Both of those are among the best Bond adventures put on film. Unfortunately, Campbell also directed one of the worst superhero movies...he directed Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Taika Waititi, and Tim Robbins. - Zorro predates Batman, and was the inspiration for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Zorro's first adventure was a novel called The Curse of Capistrano by Johnston McCulley in 1919. Since then, Zorro has appeared in many film, television, and stage adaptations, as well as many writers' stories and novels, including a literary novel by Isabelle Allende. Two of my favorite movies are The Mark of Zorro with Tyrone Power as Diego de la Vega/Zorro in 1940 and Zorro, The Gay Blade, a parody starring George Hamilton in 1981, which is hard to find and might not have aged well. I wish I could recommend The Legend of Zorro, the sequel with Antonio and Catherine...but it is not that great. - There is a cut scene after the mine explodes, and Alejandro and Elena are with all of the miners that are rescued, and they come across Generalissimo Santa Ana (played by Joquin DeAlameida), who knows about the mine and Montero. I'm including it, because I really wish the scene had stayed in: ruclips.net/video/pUzfl7KTwao/видео.html
I've been waiting for this since I saw it was upcoming, especially your reaction to the fight between Alejandro and Elena in the stable. It didn't disappoint. If you want to see just how far back Zorro goes as a character, you should check out The Mark of Zorro (1940) with Tyrone Power as Zorro. The old school swashbuckling flicks always have a great mix of action and romance, so I'd also recommend Errol Flynn in Captain Blood and The Adventures of Robin Hood.
Definitely one of the best swashbuckler movies since the Golden Age of Hollywood (1930s and 1940s). If you want to react to any similar older movies, I recommend The Adventures of Robin Hood from 1938, it’s spectacular for a movie in color from back then! Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland are the gold standard for Robin Hood and Maid Marian and Claude Rains and Basil Rathbone make excellent villains!
Holy crap. 31:25. I never noticed a Zorro errection/dick gag (eh ;p pun intended). I watched this religiously as a kid because it was one of the 40 or so VHS tapes we had, only 15-20 of which could only be watched by a person above age 5 and/or could rub two brain cells together. Not much choice, but most of those survived until now. I never noticed him pulling the sword up like that meaning he's attracted to her being a competent swords(wo)men. Man after my own heart, I can't say I haven't felt the same way toward a few ladies that actually squared up a knew how to really fight someone. More related than I thought weirdly, The Mask of Zorro plays a plot point in another of my favorite movies/real life stories of all time, Breach. Pound for pound and actor for actor, I think it's the finest cast ever filmed and I think there might be 15 actors at best including the only couple no name bit background actors. True story about trying to flush out a Soviet or American mole during the course of the Cold War. One of the main characters had a real life obssesion with this movie and it comes up once where the main character of the movie isn't sure if his boss is being a sexually weird man, a weird secret agent "test" trying to trip him up or to characterize him, or just simply a robotic, Religious, career dream employee buracrat showing his final protege one of his of rare "worldy" pleasures, a rare Hollywood film he aproves of, a feel good Swashbuckler jomp that probably reminds him of the wholesome clasics he grew up on. It's seriously an incredible movie that I've never seen someone react to. Ryan Phillipe, Caroline Dhavernas (uber BAE), Kathleen Quinlan, Laura Linney, Gary Cole, Dennis Haysbert, and Chris Cooper, one of my favorite and all time under rated great actors' best role IMO.

Such a great movie Magy. Antonio, Anthony, and Catherine were all great. The story, action sequences, and acting were spectacular. The sequel is also good in case you decide to watch it. Puss n Boots if he were a human. I think Laura would love this. El Mariachi and Once Upon A Time In Mexico would be good films to see sometime.
🎵 I could spend my lifetime loving you🎶 Maggie! This is one of my favorite Adventure films, and I've been "forced" to sing this song at karaoke. I would sing it for you anytime you wish. (If I could)☺️
This was my favorite movie as a teenager. I thought Catherine Zeta Jones in this movie was the most beautiful woman ever put to film. Still do. Also Zorro is the inspiration for Batman. Batman often recognizes this as often times the film/play Bruce and his parents are seeing the night his parents are murdered is Zorro.
Finally! 😁 I was waiting for this reaction, Magy! 😄✌ I love when emotion and feeling touch your soul, I really enjoyed it! Thank you! 😊😊😊 (Laura was missed in the reaction, the dynamic duo is unmissable 🤭🤭🤭). Greetings from Mexico. 😃👍
I grew up watching the old Zorro tv series with my dad. A fun Zorro movie to watch is “Zorro:The Gay Blade” it was made in 1981 and is really funny. Amazon prime has a new Zorro series that has a different story of the legend of Zorro.
Sighhh. Catherine Zeta Jones is impossibly beautiful 😍 The was excellent preparation for Puss in Boots (you should watch The Last Wish if nothing else)
Thank you for reacting to this movie brings back so many memories when I first watch this movie back in 98 in the theaters keep up the good work much love to you Magy.
This was the first superhero movie i soo in my childhood, an it was after i startet to see de DC's and MARVEL's comics an then apeard one of my fyvorite soperhero movies the gost rider of MARVEL. Its a second part of ZORRO too, with the same actors antonio banderas and catherine zeta jones, you have to see it that one too, its called The masc of Zorro
Would love to suggest Monsterverse movies as I'm a huge fan of the franchise since I was a kid watching OG Godzilla and King Kong movies. The new Monsterverse chronology starts from Godzilla 2014, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, Godzilla vs Kong & Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire(latest)
Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) was also Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs & Odin in Thor Antonio Banderas was the voice Puss in Boots & in Desperado 1995 & Gregorio Cortez in Spy Kids 2001
After this movie people thought Catherine Zeta-Jones was Latin or Spanish. They would talk to her in Spanish when they meet her and she could not understand them. 😄
If you liked this you MUST watch "The Count of Montecristo" (2002). What a movie, a very underrated masterpiece. And very entertaining, just like this one.
I was blessed to watch this awesome movie in the theaters. They just don't make movies like this anymore, it had everything I love in a movie. It had a great revenge story, awesome casting and acting, good action, comedy, a love story, two bad villains, real special effects, no bad words, gore and blood was light, even the horse acting was great, it had everything I want in a movie. I love this movie.
This movie is always worth every penny to watch it cuz it's such a beautifully written movie and funny too and then you've been there as makes this movie freaking hilarious❤ I saw this movie in middle school at the theater when it came out with every penny Zorro forever❤

I would also suggest The Three Musketeers -- the one with Michael York, Charleton Heston, and Raquel Welch from the 70's.
Another great reaction to another great film that is an amazing classic.

Hey Magy just to let you know that I've been trying sort out Nicegram for myself but I can't seem to get connected for some reason. If it's possible we can sort out things by having a chat on Instagram, but other than that Nicegram is not being that nice for me.
Please react to the 1999 film The Green Mile, and sort out a whole box of tissues because you're going to need them.
I'm glad that you enjoyed this so much, Magy. "The Legend Of Zorro" is the sequel. "Desperado" is another good Antonio Banderas" adventure.
This movie does not get the reaction treatment it deserves. It's a great movie.
One of your best reactions, it left me feeling .......Vigorous!
You must see the second movie, " Unmasking Zorro ".
The recent Zorro series on Amazon Prime was good. Could react to that as well but better watched in the original Spanish language with subs of course.
*I loved how Alejandro named his son after his brother Joaquin.* 👶🏻
🎵 I could spend my lifetime loving you🎶 Maggie!
This is one of my favorite Adventure films, and I've been "forced" to sing this song at karaoke. I would sing it for you anytime you wish. (If I could)☺️
This is my favorite movie. Your reactions were exactly what makes me love this film.
Great reaction Mag! It was great seeing you.
I simply love this movie. Banderas, Hopkins and Zeta-Jones, Heart, Mind and Soul
This was my favorite movie in the 90s. I love your reaction videos
The sequel is really good! If you feel like you want more Zorro, the sequel might feel that need
For a really good revenge movie you should watch The Count of Monte Christo
Zorro was the inspiration for Batman. Can't get any cooler than that, can ya? 😎
Thank you for reacting to my favorite movie! Great reaction and perspectives as always!
*Please recommend this to the other Homies, Mags.* 😊
Finally! 😁
I was waiting for this reaction, Magy! 😄✌
I love when emotion and feeling touch your soul, I really enjoyed it! Thank you! 😊😊😊
(Laura was missed in the reaction, the dynamic duo is unmissable 🤭🤭🤭).
Greetings from Mexico. 😃👍
Zorro is based on Batman, or rather Zorro inspired Batman in most media he goes to see Zorro in theaters movies before his parents die
So it's the opposite. Batman is based on Zorro. You wrote it wrong

I grew up watching the old Zorro tv series with my dad. A fun Zorro movie to watch is “Zorro:The Gay Blade” it was made in 1981 and is really funny. Amazon prime has a new Zorro series that has a different story of the legend of Zorro.
As a Japanese citizen, I’m proud of being married to a Mexican man that can dance 💃 ❤ Antonio Balderas was 🥵in this wonderful movie 🎥
Top 20 Film of All Time. Easily. Underrated as hell.
Sighhh. Catherine Zeta Jones is impossibly beautiful 😍
The was excellent preparation for Puss in Boots (you should watch The Last Wish if nothing else)
Thank you for reacting to this movie brings back so many memories when I first watch this movie back in 98 in the theaters keep up the good work much love to you Magy.
I highly HIGHLY recommend that you and Laura react to Wallace and Gromit. Honestly you will love it.
I tell ya Antonio Banderas was an awesome new Zorro in this 1998 movie! Now you need to see the sequel THE LEGEND OF ZORRO!!!
Magy likes vigorous heros 😂❤🥀
I watched this reaction just to admire Maggy's new look...
You and Laura must watch "The Man in the Iron Mask". I´m sure you´ll love it.
But watch The 3 Musketeers first, it makes more sense since it was written before
I don't understand why so few people react to "Iron Mask", it's a great film for its time.
Enjoyed your reaction as much as I enjoy this movie.
If you want to see Antonio Banderas in another good romantic role, watch The Mambo Kings.
Be sure to follow up with the sequel!
2h11m [2005-OCT-28] THE LEGEND OF ZORRO
1975 Zorro with Alain Delon is the best Zorro in my opinion
Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) was also Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs & Odin in Thor
Antonio Banderas was the voice Puss in Boots & in Desperado 1995 & Gregorio Cortez in Spy Kids 2001
The end credits music is the best.
You have to react to The Count of Monte Cristo
They need to bring back Zorro. Hands down my favorite swashbuckle movie. Even more that PoTC.
After this movie people thought Catherine Zeta-Jones was Latin or Spanish. They would talk to her in Spanish when they meet her and she could not understand them. 😄
You definitely should watch The Legend of Zorro, it’s a great continuation of this story
Esse filme é épico, meu pai alugava o VHS as vezes .
Seria incrível se você assistisse: Platoon
If you liked this you MUST watch "The Count of Montecristo" (2002).
What a movie, a very underrated masterpiece. And very entertaining, just like this one.
I second that. Saw it with my mom when it came out.
yay gonna enjoy ur reaction to this movie
Love zorro brilliant film great reaction
And then you have to take care of it like a dog, for example give it food, give it showers, clean the bottom part of it's feet, and brush it's hair .
*Antonio Banderas is the first actor of SPANISH descent to play Zorro.* 🇪🇸🦊
LONG overdue! And he killed the role!
Classic Romantic Adventure 🥰
Your new haircut it´s stunning!! I like it so much!
Now you gotta watch the LEGEND OF ZORRO it’s the sequel
This movie is always worth every penny to watch it cuz it's such a beautifully written movie and funny too and then you've been there as makes this movie freaking hilarious❤ I saw this movie in middle school at the theater when it came out with every penny Zorro forever❤
Excellent reaction, Magy. You should also check out the 1940s Zorro with Tyrone Power. You'll love it.
I love this movie but because of Dawn French's impression, I can't take CZJ seriously anymore. 😆
