I absolutely love the fact that Holden just watched the entire movie in a Zorro costume without giving a single fuck.
This was the first movie I ever saw in theatres, I got the VHS for Christmas that same year I watched it over and over again I can quote it word for word and each time I watch Mask of Zorro it’s like I’m a 5 year old kid again so I understand Holdens excitement haha
And with a Samurai sword to his side... well, I guess rapiers are hard to come by nowadays.
And here I thought Spider-Man was Holden's favorite. His excitement throughout this entire video 😂, Holden don't ever change
Zorro inspired Bob Kane to create Batman. This story began the idea of the hero dressed in black.
The Shadow was just as much if not more of an influence. One could argue Kane and Finger ripped off The Shadow; I think Finger even said as much in an Interview.
@@PikeBishop1 I never read that interview, but I'm going to check it out, because I didn't know that. Thank you for the new information, my friend! 👍
Spider-Man 2 is his favorite. This is ONE of his favorites.
😂 Funny l
Being raised as a hispanic and living in a hispanic household, this movie holds such a special place in my heart. I was so mesmerized how well the father of the Spy Kids (Antonio Banderes) was in this movie. Zoro is such an icon for the latinos, and i hope one day his story gets a modern remake for the next few generations
Hold up, i just commented without watching the video, and now that im watching..... HOLDEN, SAY SIKE RIGHT NOW. IM PERUVIAN AND YOU LITERALLY QUOTED MY LIFE IN THE INTRO
How different America would be today if the west remained Mexican, the middle remained with the Natives and the east remained British and French influenced.
@@markcruz359 it be called The Divided Sectors of America 😂
If so, Zorro would be an old "toxic" man who needs to be put in his place by a strong female character, who is better, smarter and stronger in anything anyways. You know... like every modern character they destroyed.
So be carefull what you wish for.
@@Smido83Exactly.
I’m with you Holden. This is arguably one of the best adventure films. The story, James Horner’s music, Bob Anderson’s swordsmanship on display. Not to mention a well constructed cast.
"The mask of zorro" and "the count of monte cristo "
cuz its not political, non woke, the good old days
@@SNOOPY_-im sorry but this movie is absolutely political lmao
@@thatweirdodaniel is it? in what way? cuz i cant find it in the classic sense, like obviously either dems or republican stuff. or insane woke stuff cuz that didnt excist yet in the 90s (thank fuck for that!)
Don't dare be sleeping on The Mummy.
Mask of Zorro is technically a sequel story to the 50's Zorro show. That's why it starts out with Zorro and Rafael having basically a final confrontation.
you should react to the show or/ and some of the many zorro movies
Its not sequel there is no connection
@@ΠαναγιωτηςΑγγελThere is 100% a connection to the old show.
This video is FANTASTIC! I couldn't keep a straight face from start to finish. Holden, you have done an outstanding job on this one. The Holden lore is exquisite. I hope you dress up for more of these 😂
As soon as i saw Holden in the costume my first thought was "please watch it with it on" and sir i am very pleased with this classic of a film
Joaquin Murrieta, the Mexican Robin Hood/The Hero of California/the Robin Hood of El Dorado, was the inspiration of Zorro. Because of racial discrimination, his brother was murdered by hanging, and his wife was beaten and raped. He claimed he would “live on for revenge, and that his path should be marked in blood.” He hunted down the men who were responsible and killed them. Over the years, many immigrant miners were forced off of their gold claims, simply for not being white. Joaquin and his fellow vigilantes would rob the claims and mines the immigrants were forced off of and give the gold back to them. He was killed near my hometown, and his head was supposedly put in a jar and shipped all up and down the state to let all of California know that he had perished, but it was never proven to actually be HIS head. And, of course, Zorro was the inspiration for Batman (:
BTman not Just using zorro as inspration. They also use the shadow as inspiration.
@@boboboy8189The Phantom also
"Mr Montero... You think Don Diego is a masked vigilante who spends his nights beating outlaws and patrolmen alike to a pulp, and your brightest idea is to challenge him to single combat?"
"....!"
"Good luck with that."
fits right in lol
Zorro is one of the original inspirations for Batman. The Douglas Fairbanks movie from the 20s was one of Bill Finger's favorites as a kid and the 1940's Tyrone Power version was his favorite as an adult. In some incarnations, watching it was the last thing the Wayne family did together.
Both of those films are amazing in their own right, especially Mark of Zorro. The swordfight between Power and Basil Rathbone is fantastic.
As wild as the opening is, one of my favorite things is Jen trying not to lose it behind the camera.
An instant classic. For me the "perfect, they don't make em like this anymore movie" is the Bourne Identity and Oceans Eleven.
Love the oceans films, they look like they were fun to make as well
For Holden, for this film Banderas was trained by Bob Anderson, a legendary movie swordmaster (he's the one who fought as Darth Vader in Star Wars, he trained Viggo Mortensen for LOTR, etc...) and Anderson said that Banderas was the best student he ever had since Errol Flynn...
I think I would absolutely love to see a staged sword fight between Viggo Mortensen and Antonio Banderas.
It’s like the sword fight from The Princess Bride. Iconic footwork and blades.
@@cassieo Actually it's also Bob Anderson who choreographed and trained Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes for Princess Bride 😅
@@Grujnot It never ceases to amaze me how many of these "greatest movies of all time" end up sharing the same crew members - not just directors and scriptwriters, but also composers, cinematographers, production designers, fight choreographers, sound designers, editors, and all those other forgotten people working in the engine room of these films
@@christianwise637 When you're the best, you produce the best
@@Grujnot Pretty much all the best swordfight movies of the last fifty years had Bob Anderson. Star Wars, Highlander, The Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, Mask of Zorro, and Pirates of the Caribbean were all his sword work.
Just like Raiders Of The Lost Ark - a great mix of action, adventure, romance, drama, and humor. Perfectly cast, directed, written, scored, edited, and choreographed!
hahaha that reverse flash edit. I remember not realizing Captain Love was Reverse Flash until pretty recently, it blew my mind!
I'm with Holden, this movie is one of my absolute favorites. I've watched this sooooo many times, especially as a kid.
You're telling me that Capitan Love plays a character in the DCEU? Is this real?
@@LivinMyJeffLife Not really considered part of the DCEU. The actor played The Reverse Flash in the CW's The Flash tv show.
Hey Holden.
Props for your intro and staying in costume during the reaction.
That's some real love right there.
I've seen a few things of Zorro while growing up myself and was a fan too.
Zorro is indeed the original caped crusader as an fictional icon of Spanish, Mexican, American culture.
Live-action, animated, tv, film, comics, video games, toys, you name it.
Almost 80 years after his impact, no one expected a brand new film about the dashing and courageous Fox.
This was one of 2 new entries, directed by Martin Campbell (Goldeneye).
Perfect casting with Hopkins as the original, Banderas (first spanish Zorro ever) as the successor and C. Zeta Jones as gorgeous, brave Elena.
The action is good and old fashioned just like the original Zorro stories.
But with more of flare with today's filmmaking.
Marc Anthony & Tina Arena with the love theme, "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You" is considered underrated.
This movie made it cool to see old-time heroes make a comeback and grab the imagination of newer generations.
The Legend of Zorro (2005) is very good too and sadly, it's the last one until they actually adapt him into a iteration as good as before.
Loved that you referenced Letscher's role as Reverse-Flash. He was amazing, despite his limited screen time!
The level of excitement I felt when I saw the thumbnail was very high. That excitement doubled when I found out Holden is such a big fan of it. This is gonna be a good lunch break.
This was one of my favourite films growing up. Introduced me to Bandreas and Catherine. I think Hopkins as well. The sword-fighting was amazing in this. Probably one of the last full on practical movies ever made in that decade. A shame the sequel wasn't as good.
I remember my parent rent a VHS and watch it together. My favourite one is where zorro slashing her clothes
I'm from the UK so same for Bandreas but Catherine started on a show called the Darling Buds Of May I used to watch it when I was a kid.
What made the opening to this video even more hilarious is the sound of Jen laughing in the background.
As a Latino, thank you Holden for the respect and love!
hispanic not latino...
@@angyliv8040 Can't they be both?
@@stevenfriedman2902 not really, let's just say it played a part in Napolean III "cause belli" to intervene in Mexico. Linguistically they speak a romance language, yes, derived from Latin. The majority have hispanic/Iberian DNA, and cultured, mixed with native american/asian/M.E., & african in different quantities.
And here we have the source material for Puss in Boots' mannerisms. Between Zorro and Puss, these are two of my favorite Antonio Banderas movie characters.
One of my most memorable movies from my childhood! I wish they made more movies like this one.
I didn’t think anyone else loved this film as much as me, until I see my boy Holden mouthing “Don Raphael” and then mimicking that massive gulp the prison guard does after 😂
Throughout the reaction, seeing Jenn's hair placement just kept making me see her shirt as the word "WIPE" and it was unintentionally making me laugh with the baby and all. 😂
"I need to get some of that Zeta- Jones!" 😂😂 Now among my favorite Holden quote
Honestly, Zorro is the role Antonio Banderas was born to play. I know others could do it (Diego Luna would be *fantastic* as one example; if they went with an older Zorro, Tony Dalton would be amazing, and so on), but this role is to him what Superman was to Christopher Reeve. Just a perfect match of actor to character.
28:10 i had forgotten how much i loved the Zorro costume in these movies. Just seeing it makes my heart race with excitement
Growing up, way back when. One of my favorite tv shows was Zorro starring Guy Williams. Who latter starred in “Lost in Space” as Professor Robinson
This movie is a perfect example of how you have a 10/10 in its own genre/category. The film is not a "social commentary" nor "twisting expectations" film (from which we also have amazing 10/10 films that are epic on their own), it is just a perfectly done cheeky and awesome story, being told in its absolute best possible way; every part of it is correctly made for the genre it was intended to be, which makes it a 10/10, without the need to have "deep-reflective" or "sad depressing-type" moments (which are a vital part in other great films), because it's just not that type of movie. I would dare to say that trying to add something it didn't have, would probably end up decreasing the film's quality instead of improving it, that's how perfectly built and intertwined are the 5 storylines described in this film (Diego's Final Mission, Alejandro's Revenge, Helena's Personal Self-Discovery, The Enemies Plan to obtain California, The Training and Zorro's Mantle-Passing).
YEAH this is a solid 10! This is my all time favorite movies. I saw it 12 times in the thearters. I can quote this movie in English and Spanish. I even got to speak on a podcast about Zorro. This movie got my into fencnig and theatrical combat.
The second movie has grown on me over the years.
I never would have thought of Zach Gallifinakis for Zorro! Brilliant casting! Inspired! 😂❤
Right there with you holden! this movie was so well done. I grew up on the old black and white Zorro on the original Disney Channel. This story just has a special place in my heart!
I grew up on the old Zorro TV show and the movie absolutely love them both! and I agree with Holden 10/10 one of my favs!!!
Antonio and Catherine's chemistry is off the charts
I love this movie. There is just something to the older swasbuckler movies that hits home. Zorro was relatively big part of my childhood with Batman and Phantom comics which both carry heavy influence from Zorro. I also think that this movie on top of Once upon a time with Mexico are the reason why I always feel cozy when watching anything warm brown that makes Spanish noises.
OMG I got "Comment of the Day" on one of my favorite movie reactions! This is my personal top vid of yours now besides all your "Pensacola: Then & Now" vids😅 I could make this comment so long. Thank You 😇😇😇
I really love this film, really well-made by Martin Campbell (who holds especially big currency for me as a Bond fan, being the director of both Goldeneye and Casino Royale). Impeccable and unmatched chemistry between Banderas and Zeta-Jones, such delightfully fun and energetic action scenes, including the most sexually-charged sword fight ever put to film, and a fantastically epic Latin-flavoured score from James Horner, probably one of his best works alongside his music for Titanic. It's a really well-crafted and just unabashedly fun film, the kind of which we rarely ever see any more
This is literally based on a novela. And just like the ones on tv now, a novela is melodramatic and fun.
This is my favorite James Horner score. He’s at the top of his form. Breaks my heart to this day we lost a great composer way too soon.
I don't know where I must have started laughing, Jane who is almost choking while holding back laughter behind the camera or This image of Zorro in his bed...🛏️💃🤺
😂🤣😂🤣😂
The best intro Forever !! 😎👍
For several years Anthony Hopkins was in terrible pain due to a back injury. He underwent what he called "experimental back surgery" using lasers. Afterwards he was completely pain free for the first time in years. He was then offered the part of Zorro in this movie and he jumped at the chance to play an action hero, since he was feeling so good physically.
12:31 thank you for saying that the movie took inspiration from the count of monte cristo for that scene. The Count of Monte Cristo inspired a lot of movies
BEST into EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idc how y’all do it but hearing the laughter between the two of you is the reason to do this. Will we get a crazy Jen intro for one of her movies? I’d love to hear Holden snicker behind the camera while she tries to keep it together without laughing 🤣❤️
As a kid in the 1950's, my favorite Hispanic actor was Gilbert Roland. I remember him in a recurring role in westerns. As a little boy, I was impressed that he would carry a cigarette over his ear. He starred in a movie with Jimmy Stewart about offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, "Thunder Bay". He was also in several Zorro productions, TV, etc.
I had the honor and privilege of seeing this movie in theaters, and I agree with your scoring Holden, a solid ten. This movie is flawless with a great mixture of action, drama, adventure, comedy and romance, all balanced to perfection.
This is one of my all-time favorites too. Casting was fantastic and the classic fight & stunt choreography was top notch. And Michael Douglas wasn't the only person to become obsessed with Catherine Zeta-Jones after seeing this.
I love this movie as a kid and still do as an adult. I can remember dressing up as Zorro for Halloween back in my childhood.
Im not gonna lie, but i was expecting Holden to say that Love and Raphael's deaths were priceless
Yes! I’ve been waiting for you to watch this! I think I suggested this ages ago can’t remember when but I remember commenting it somewhere
That was some superb spanish haha. you gotta let out spanish Holden more often, its crazy that you lived in peru. Amazing reaction as always, keep it up with that passion that characterizes you both, remember that "El único pecado sería negar lo que sus corazones sienten".
Thank you for reacting to this one! I grew up in the’80s, watching Guy Williams as Zorro on the Disney Channel. When I was a kid, Zorro and Davy Crockett were my heroes. I think you guys would also like The Edge, also with Anthony Hopkins. 🦊
LMAO THAT INTRO!! ......the accent...and the fact Holden wears outfit throughout.......HAHAHA
This is also one of my favorite movies. When I went on a Ghostwalk in Monterey, CA, the guide took us to a bar and revealed it was once owned by the real Zorro back in the 1800s, Saloman Pico - or at least who the character Zorro was heavily inspired by. Extra fun fact, the restaurant across from Zorro's bar was built from the ship that saved Napoleon from the island he was exiled to.
This is one of my favorite films of all time. I watched every show and movie countless times. Was Zorro for Halloween twice. My dad bought a replica of the sword for my brother and I
I have been in situations where I wanted my Wife to Love a Movie as much as Holden did here!!!!! I love that his inner 9 year old had him keep the mask on !!!!!!! Holden is Zorro !!!!!
Ahhhh. This was so funny
Holden mouthing the lines 😂
Also here in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
We love El Zorro 🦊
OMG! 😂 I can't stop laughing at the intro. Holden you are too funny bro
Absolutely my favorite movie I seen it all the time as a kid so awesome to watch
Love your reaction Holden and Jen
incredible video, incredible backstory, incredible skit, and even more incredible that you stayed in costume for the entire time 🔥
Holden silent quoting the whole way through is absolutely hysterical! On point with timing and facial expressions every single time!😂😂😂😂
Zorro was the role Antonio banderas was born to play...he has very good charisma on screen!
Watched this movie so many times as a kid hell i still got the vhs tape.
Now watching it as an adult i enjoy the movie even more. The cast, music, fight scenes, the comedy are all great.
I think you guys should watch "the count of monte cristo" next
As a hispanic kid whos name is Antonio this and the mariachi meant a lot to me. Even inspired me to learn guitar and dance and swordsmanship.
I love you both so much right now! One of my absolute favorites!
I used to stay up passed midnight to watch the Disney reruns of the 1950s tv show
THIS is my favorite reaction, every time I show people this movie for the first time, I am Holden! The excitement and ability to recite every line in the movie is unmatched when it comes to this one.
Zorro, noble fop by day and masked adventurer by night, was first published in 1919. The Scarlet Pimpernel, noble fop by day and covert adventurer as the occasion required, was first published in 1905. John Carter of Mars, an immortal, mildly telepathic human who finds himself on Mars where he is comparatively super-strong, was first published in 1912.
Whether Zorro counts as an early superhero depends on what traits define a superhero. He isn't the first hero with a double identity who hides his bravery under a meek facade. Certainly, he doesn't have superhuman powers. But neither John Carter nor Scarlet Pimpernel wore a mask to conceal their identities. So it's kind of a gray area as to who the "first" superhero might be.
The Mask of Zorro is one of my all time favorites. No matter how many times this movie plays on tv I can always watch it. While it can be over the top yes it has action, humor, romance, adventure, fantastic characters, great story telling and pacing. Everything you want in a movie to have a good time is here. Its a timeless masterpiece to me.
The man on screen @6:03 - the friend that comes to warn the Don, is also in Stargate SG-1. He plays Bra'tak.
Love seeing Holden doing cosplay!!!
I remember seeing this movie in the theater. What’s cool to me is that this film is a sequel to The Mark of Zorro (1940). Anthony Hopkins plays the Zorro from the older film and we catch him at the end of his career.
Bro! I'm Panamanian! My entire family is. Well, I'm American and speak zero Spanish, but LOVE that you know one of my ppl!
Wasn’t expecting this much Holden-lore exposition in this episode, but I am so glad by what I found out. This movie was arguably the first time I ever saw foreplay-flirting on screen (obv the stable duel between Zorro and Elena), come to think of it 😅Reflects more on my style than I thought
I am glad yall saw this movie. it's one of favorites.
Thank you for that intro, Holden. Respect. Zorro with a katakana is a wild and interesting concept. More cosplays, please.
I agree. Always been a HUGE Zorro fan! These movies do the legend justice. Though they don't cover it here, he learned fencing from masters in Spain, while studying abroad. Was a national champion.
I prefer the sequel personally Holden... Shrek 2 is one of the greats!
Your reaction brought back some memories! Took my girlfriend at the time, who was from Panama (Holden), on a date to see this film. Had a good time revisiting, with you guys!
This is one of my favorite films! I remember when it came out in theaters, I have seen it probably hundreds of times. I would watch a telenovela with my mom when I was a kid about Zorro. I don’t remember the name of the show just that she had to translate for me some times cause my Spanish wasn’t very good at the time. I love Holden’s excitement in this reaction!
Lmao at just your opening. Im Latino and not offended. Zorro is one of my favorite heroes of all time. You should seriously read the novela The Curse of Capistrano.
Its true that in the novel his outfit is a bit different
@@ΠαναγιωτηςΑγγελ He has a full mask. The mask goes across his eyes and down his face like a bandit mask.
Thank you for this reaction! And Jen’s reaction to 29:35 was priceless!!! Antonio Banderas was amazing! I was in a musical production when I was playing Pancho Villa and I watched these films to study their dialect. Catherine Zeta-Jones was both lovely and fierce! I used to wish they would have made a video game where you play as various characters in a sword duel. I really would love to see Jen’s reaction to The Legend of Zorro! If you’d like more adventurous films I highly recommend Disney’s The Lone Ranger, Cutthroat Island, and Bandidas.
⚔️🔥🖤❤️🔥
When i was in the theater every time Zorro would win a battle all the hispanics would cheer
Absolutely fantastic reaction! I loved this movie as well growing up and can’t find any flaws in it. Even the Legend of Zorro isn’t as good, I still think you guys should watch it. Also, the Count of Monte Cristo and the National Treasure movies would also be fun watches!
Hey Holden and Jen, long time subscriber with a small Spanish lesson. Adjectives come after nouns in Spanish 99% of the time. So it would be "El Zorro Blanco" not "El Blanco Zorro". Love the videos! Rebels rewatch with you two to get ready for Ahsoka has been so much fun!
It's quite old, but I'd love to see you both react to the 1940 _The Mark of Zorro_ . It was one of the inspirations for this movie, it's aged remarkably well, and it contains perhaps the most technically skillful swordfight ever put to film.
I'm a huge fan of Zorro and this movie is a masterpiece in my opinion!!!!
Holden, another masterpiece is the movie Hook! If Jen hasn't seen it, I highly recommend it!!! Robin Williams is fantastic as an adult Peter Pan!
I liked that they incorporated the real life story dealing with Joaquin Murrieta (apparently one of the inspirations for Zorro) and Captain Love. Even the whole head and hand in two jars actually happened.
Sidenote: The actor playing Love also played Ambassador Chris Stevens in 13 Hours as well as Reverse Flash in CW's The Flash.
Love Holden as Zorro…this is the movie we need 😂
That saying of "when the student is ready the master will appear/ reveal themselves" is such a powerful line there have been a few times for me where at turning points in my life a person has come in and shown me a new way or helped me learn something about myself.
27:29 .....This very scene has been re-edited, changing the swords into lightsabers....... It's refreshing to see a lightsaber fight wit this style of fencing.......
ive seen this movie and loved it, but didnt really feel like watching a reaction about it. but i got bored so i thought sure ill watch it.
SO GLAD I DID. this intro. oh my god. its literally the best intro youve done so far, i was laughing so hard!
We NEED Holden to speak with a spanish accent MORE
I grew up with my Dad showing me reruns of the Guy Williams Zorro, and then the 80s cartoon of Zorro/Lone Ranger, so he's always been a favorite of mine. This movie definitely hits all the right notes.
I too know this one in and out, such a gem! Mom took me to see this in theatre when I was 13, been a Catherine Zeta Jones lover for life lol
Oh and also the prison warden is also in Stargate SG-1. He plays the Go'auld named Neroos.
LOVE the intro, this made me laugh so much.
Holden Hardman - Honorary Hispanic 😂 so happy to see others have such a love for this great movie!
I love this movie for so many reasons and one of them is the music!❤ the score is amazing and so powerful❤
The duet by Marc Anthony and Tina Arena played during the end credits is incredible too!
An absolute CLASSIC (-_^ ) Catherine Zeta Jones is absolutely gorgeous in this movie and many still envy Michael Douglas to this day. Wished they'd make a new Zorro for theatres or streaming series.
The Scarlet Pimpernel was the first masked hero, & inspired Zorro.
The Scarlett pimpernel was indeed the first double identity vigilante but he didn't wear a mask
