During the last ice age there was a human outpost in what we now call Basque country, in the north of Spain, and as Europe warmed people started migrating north to England and Ireland. What a fabulous film! They literally don't make them like this anymore. It's a BIG summer action tentpole with apparently not a lick of digital effects anywhere in there! All practical filmmaking with miniatures, physical stunts, and the best swordplay around! Also, you can almost look at The Mask of Zorro as a proto-Batman Beyond. The classic Zorro has aged out of the role, and trains a young, unruly successor to bring justice to an unjust land.

I love the fact that even though this series is broadcast to the world, these two still manage to include a reference, and footage, of Saint's legend Plugger, and the absolute prick of bloke that is D. Brereton. I love picturing the conversation where you try to explain the reference of such enigmas to Ben and Lawrence haahhaha

10:27 I believe that this comment is directed specifically at me. Last week in the live chat for the bender episode, Zorro came up and I said that this movie is trash. I also said that the og Zorro film with Basil Rathbone as the villain, was vastly superior (props to the editor(s) for including a snippet or two from said movie). Funnily enough, although I have never stepped off a cliff, I did almost die in a rockslide while hiking at the bottom of a cliff. It is somewhat disconcerting that James was able to hit me with such an on the mark riposte. I stand by what I said, but I also learned my lesson. Never again will I risk Mr. Sunday’s wrath.

10:34 that’s me, except instead of looking up, I dove for cover and tried to osmosis myself into the cliff side, screamed the most heartfelt f bomb of my life, ran out of breath while choking on debris, snatched another breath and then went back to screaming. By the time I ran out of breath again, it was over. On second thought, I take back everything I said about Zorro. Best movie ever. How did they know how to trigger the hairiest memory of my life??!

Ha holy crap I haven’t seen this movie in forever, the character that you’re referencing jumping out of the mining cart at 13:15 is LQ Jones, and my grandmother was a good friend of his in high school back in the day so we have all of these random signed portraits of his, I totally forgot about it until this video. He played random character actors and every time I saw him it cracked me up. Think I met him one time? Maybe two when I was little.
Anyway, just a bit of trivia to add to your next zorro video even though the character died - spoilers I guess? Lmao

Absolutely love this film. It's a pure adventure film anchored by an incredible cast, and *still* some of the most mind blowing on-screen stunts. The horse chase where a Zorro (aka some super stunt guy) on the back of a speeding horse does some kind of physics defying backflip to swap himself around to sword fight people chasing him on other horses is just a perfect example of peak 90s adventure movie greatness.
