    Batman Begins is so underappreciated. Honestly, it's an amazing film and is the most "Batman" movie we've ever had. I love it. I could watch it over and over. Because The Dark Knight is one of the greatest films ever made, BB gets looked over which is a crime.

    • @shawnmoney8055

      In my opinion Batman Begins is the best film in the trilogy. something about that film was just awesome. the comics accurate orange color scheme, the dark gritty atmosphere, cinematography and editing style was the best in that film.

Even when the third act really teeters on going off the rails at any moment (pun not intended). Everything works. I would disagree on one thing, personally BB felt more real to me than any of the sequels. There was depth to it, a humanity and it all just felt real, whereas TDK felt like a crime film and TDKR was...a tone deaf trainwreck that didn't know whether it wanted to be a sequel to TDK or BB.

    Batman Begins is the best live action Batman film, don't get me wrong I love Heath Ledger's Joker but this film felt like an actual Batman film, from his origin to the score and the supporting cast. But really the biggest thing that makes this my favorite Batman film is Gotham, unlike Gotham in TDK and TDKR the Gotham here felt like it's own character, much like The New York in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films.

      Probably it's because the way the city was shot, here you can see the common people live there and witness poor and messed up places like alleys while also having Batman getting to those places, then in the next movies the city was depicted in a way more realistic way as well.. "Chicago".

      Batman Begins shot inside a gigantic studio for the Gotham slums called "The Narrows" and Monorail. TDK and TDKR dropped that aesthetic for Gotham.

    While this is still one of my favorite comic book films, I think there is one thing you can fairly acknowledge as weak, and it’s the action. The action in this film reminds me a lot of the lightsaber fight in A New Hope. A 10/10 on a character level, but a mess as a fight. There is a lot of shaky cam and weak choreography in this film. Both heavily improved in the future films.

    • @alfredgarcia6844

      Honestly, Christophwr Nolan has always suffered in the action choreography department to one degree or another in all three of these movies. I hate shaky cam in general, but the first few times when he was Batman, both in the docks and under Arkham, felt absolutely fitting. It made sense that you wouldn't see him coming and that it would be a flurry of fists and shadow, because that's exactly how the criminals perceived him. The more Batman comes out in the open and just does straight up melee combat, the less good the action looked in each proceeding film. Say what you want about Batfleck vs. Bale, but Batfleck has Bale beat in terms of the raw physicality of his combat choreography. Nolan and Goyer's occasionally stiff dialog aside, the combat is one of the precious few gripes I have with these movies. This Batman really should've committed more to stealth. As much as I love all three movies, he may as well not have been trained by literal ninjas at all in TDK and TDKR based on how little he actually used the stealth, distraction and deception that Ra's ahl Ghul and Batman so heavily emphasized in BB. While I don't believe BB is the best movie in the trilogy, I do think it's probably the film where Bruce feels the most like Batman and not just a really good brawler. Nobody really watches these movies for the action stunts anyway. It's all about that delicious drama and atmosphere.

      Agreed. I wonder about the people who say they just 'kept waiting for Batman to be on screen'. When the greatest parts of the film was almost everything *before* Batman was in the suit. The drama of Bruce's life was made truly compelling here. I knew I was watching something special when I was so invested in the scenes with Bruce walking out of the court room about to shoot his parent's murderer, someone else doing it before him, the Falcone confrontation...
      I had to step back for a second because I nearly forgot I was watching a "superhero movie".

    • @Eric-pg6qc
      @Eric-pg6qc 7 лет назад

      Absolutely. This is the origin of Batman - no reason to suit him up early on, especially given how silly the premise of a rich guy dressing as a bat to fight crime can be. The opening sequences are the best origin story a superhero has ever gotten, and it declines in quality after Falcone is gone. It's not bad - it's still really good and the final showdown is epic - but the first half succeeds on every level so it's still a slight letdown. The Scarecrow is a really bad fit for such a grounded movie, and I actually like him far more in his brief cameos in the last two films.
      The Dark Knight never reaches the peak Batman Begins does in the beginning, but it is entirely consistent and grounded in a way Begins simply wasn't and it's only marginally worse than the best points in Begins.

    I really loved this film, it was great to watch, with the well placed humor, the intense moments when his parrents die then he has to find himself, train himself to survive and fight back as he slowly conquers his fears and inner demons to become Batman. And I honestly believe this is hands down Leim Neison's best performance, he's so dark and subtle, never losing his cool, always the perfect composure; he nailed the villein in this movie from start to finish. This was the first film in many years where I got physically upset over a negative review a movie reviewer for the local news paper gave this movie stating about part of the movie "Batman learns Karate"; I could just slap that person for oversimplifying the plot of the movie in such blatantly ignorant way, not understanding or even interested in the character of Bruce Wayne and how he becomes Batman.

    • @awesome395
      @awesome395 7 лет назад +2

      Oh that was seen that is indeed justifiable. However, they are a lot instances where you just couldn't make out what he hell was going on due to the quick editing. Like when batman fought the ninja's that was on the prison island it was edited to quickly; a lot of the hand to hand combat was brief. Like every punch he is about to make is edited out instead of being a still shot.
      Another example is when he fought league of shadows when he decided to burned down their palace. It just feels a bit cheap. Even though the film was meant to be realistic, it's not far fetch to show the audience of he fights.

      I still think it's a legitimate criticism in term of cinematography! Just recently re-watched the entire Dark Knight trilogy and thought the Batman Begins fight scenes look almost as bad as Suicide Squad for how shaky the camera work is. • @georgevalley1319
      @georgevalley1319 7 лет назад

      I agree with this criticism, but I would argue that there are still some great action sequences in this film. For example the training scene on the ice, the batmobile chase, and the first appearance of Batman (unless the shaky cam in that scene really annoys you, the rest of it is pretty much perfect).

    • @ryantheanimator1156

      turixrios I commented on that edit a while back, but revisiting the review (while stuck at home) I still disagree with Chris here. And agree with you. I love Katie’s reaction there. She’s so numb when she hears about Bruce she can’t say or do anything & it all comes through in that quick response and walk to the door. It’s another small in-between moment that makes this movie so great.

      That’s not the edit. He means the cut to Bruce talking to the character played by Rutger Hauer. It was kind of quick and a bit disconcerting but the entire film was absolutely perfect.

    I don't think it was an awkward edit. It was necessary in some form for Rachel to be informed of Bruce's return to Gotham. Otherwise the meet at the restaurant would have been different, and probably odder if she didn't already know that he had returned. But it does beg the question; why didn't she try to reach out to him upon being informed of his return? If anything her reaction to the news of Bruce's return could have been a little less deer in the headlights. For me, the biggest gripe I had with this movie was the tacked on super weapon plot device that is never eluded to nor foreshadowed, but comes out in the middle of the story like "Hey, did we mention that microwave emitter that is going to play a huge part in this movie, especially at the climax? No? Well, we are going to mention it right now and tell you of its grave importance. Please keep it in mind for the remainder of the film." Still the strongest of the Nolan Bat-films by far.

    The thing I find most interesting is the design of Gotham between the movies, Batman Begins has the pieces of the Burton movies left over with the Narrows, but by the time you hit Rises, it's a completely concrete city, no real gothic elements or overwrought steel girders everywhere.

    I think Batman 89 maybe superior when it comes to music, butwhen it comes to storytelling, characters, and Batman himself, Batman begins wins.
