    I tried ramune when I was taking historical archaeology - the stopper type is called a Codd's Ball Stopper and first appeared in the 1870's. I had never seen it outside of books and was so excited to actually try opening it!

  • @Shienajou

    I've tried that method on the imported ramune here in the states and I think the bottles are sealed differently for export from Japan because the ones we get in the us do not allow you to unscrew the top so many have tried and failed

      I think it might depend on the brand. I have Kimura brand in front of me now, that doesn't have a screw-off lid. But there are other brands of Ramune.

    Yeah, ramune bottles in the States don't usually twist off like that. But incidentally, I've found that most of the time you can avoid an explosion if you just hold down the plunger really firmly for 3-5 seconds.

  • @kbizawsome
    @kbizawsome 13 лет назад

    The ramunes in the states don't allow you to twist the top and get the marble out. The top just stays there and won't budge when you try to move it.

  • @XxKcookiez29

  • @emmymade
    @emmymade  13 лет назад

    @kbizawsome - Yes, there are a lot of different manufacturers of ramune & I think they have slightly different plastic tops. I'm guessing in the States, they probably want to keep kids from swallowing the marble, so they purposely make it difficult to get out.

    Ii live in the states and I found Ramune at a little Japanese shop in my mall, but they were flavored like strawberry, cherry, grape, etc.. The way to open it was the same but there was no way to get the marble out. The top didn't twist. So my dad took a power tool to it...the bottle was safe in the end :3

    I tried my first Ramune today!!!! Meijers sells them. They are in the soda isle down by the "specialty" sodas. You know by all the glass bottled soda. They have Strawberry, Green Apple, Blueberry and Original, which to me taste like a lemony & Limey Cream Soda! I drank my warm because my impatient butt couldn't wait until I got home in front of the computer! lol But I have a Strawberry chilling in the Fridge!

    We used to have those bottles in England over 100 years ago they were also used for lemonade, I think the marble was used as a stopper before screw top bottles were invented the marble acted as a stopper if the bottle fell over to stop it leaking

    I bought Ramune because you describe so many things as tasting like Ramune and I wanted to know what it tastes like. Well, at first I didn't like it very much. It was a bit iffy. But, after about the second or third bottle, I started to really like it and now I crave it all the time! I think that it tastes like a lemon-lime soda with the aroma/after taste of double bubble bubble gum. :)

    @cheskydivision The Ramune soda comes in multiple different flavors (with their own colors) and it's impossible for the ball to come out of the soda bottle unless you twist open the top... lol The reason they have the indents to hold the ball when your drinking is so it won't block the flow of the soda. There's no possible choking hazard unless you open the bottle and put the ball in your mouth and accident;y choke on it... (which is idiotic)
