When speaking about wanting men to learn instead of being punished for their actions. I was reminded of what Chanel Miller said in her victim impact statement about Brock Turner. She said "what I really want is for Brock to GET IT." She didn't want him to go to jail as much as she wanted him to just admit he was wrong and not do it again.
And another wonderful episode; thank you three for sharing and getting into the nitty gritty it is so much appreciated and really made me think and process my own experiences. Also re taking things literally, which I do all the time, I remember once inviting a guy I was seeing over for pizza and a movie, and my friend said to me, 'you know that means sex, right?' and I was so confused, like, no I want to eat pizza and watch a movie?! Also the long process time I can so relate to. Thank you for articulating these things so beautifully x
The part about autism really resonated. I'm sure I would've fallen into that 'well I guess that's what I have to do to be normal' if I hadn't found ace terminology when I did (well I did fall into it, it just didn't go all the way to sexual). Finding the ace community allowed me to really think about what I wanted and didn't want, and gave me permission to permanently say no. It was kind of my excuse to say no and to not be 'normal'. Like, having the word 'asexual' made it 'a thing' rather than just another failure at normalcy on my part. And I know you shouldn't need an excuse and you shouldn't need it to be 'a thing', but well that's how I felt. I don't even know what to blame that on. Masking, fawning, trying to be normal? Compulsory sexuality? All of the above? And yeah I've ended up on several accidental dates where I didn't understand what was asked of me and said yes because whatever activity they proposed sounded fun.
I've always been absolutely intimidated by what sexual veterans everyone else is. 30% of young men as of now are still virgins, me included. I'm no incel because I know who Mexie is and I've watched this entire thing though. I'm a virgin at 24 because I grew up with authority figures/adults as my soul reference group. Whatever box-office hit you saw with your date, I was seeing with my dad eating at Outback before hand. Because I was special ed, I had an adult always in my bubble, whilst everyone else learned to be annoyed by adult authority figures. I had no opportunity to be exposed to "peer pressure", so everything I learned about sex was "if you have non-marital sex in your teens here's what'll happen: Not only are you gonna get Super Aids by a Tape Worm, You're gonna get disowned from the family, her father has the right to beat you up on the spot, and you're life is gonna be ruined forever. 😃" I still get this sentiment in college of "you're gonna be put on blast over SM, therby be blacklisted by all 20-30 something year old girls in their de facto registry. You' be sued by her family, and maybe get in an altercation with the dad and brother at the Make Ammends Brunch 😃." I'm now dead-close to a hook up! It took going to they gym every day and hitting up the bars to get there. However I have to be honest and say being a tall skinny white guy is a common trope of most Reddit and FB post horror stories, and I got treated as such. Once I bulked up I got the treatment I so aspired for...
Lastly please do make a comprehensive 15 minute video on that makes EXPLICIT DISTINCTIONS between “bad sex” and sexual assault, especially the consensual and uncomfortable part.
As a ex dude there is a lot of peer pressure to casual sex! A girl was flirting with me and putting het hand in my pants I pushed her away, and i was the Boogyman!
