Thank you all for watching. The Rode K2 is an incredible microphone. I thought the NTK sound great... Check out the Rode K2 here -> imp.i114863.net/5b0Dmn
I’m stuck to buy this one or TLM 120 for rap and melody vocals
@@the9thEarl love the way the k2 sounds though the neve .
Thanks for the review Archie, sounds so sweet!
You are welcome. Also, thank you all for creating great quality microphones for creators on any budget.
I have been using the K2 as my main vocal mic since it was released 18 years ago. I keep buying new mics thinking I need a better mic (as we do 😂) but I keep selling them because the K2 always ends up sounding better on all sources. It's a great mic no doubt.
lt's a TLM that is a transformer less mic. You won't catch Rode, sE , Neumann as well as a host of other manufactures charging top dollar for their top of the line mics without adding another tube or transformer to the output stage. What's that tell you? For vocals you better give your initial signal the most pump you can because it's difficult to get it back if even possible down the chain. l own a k2 l'll never sell but l only keep it as an alternative to the twin tube sE Gemini and Lauten Eden l'll be purchasing.
@@rollowarlin8450 SE Gemini is a great mic as well, I've never tried an Eden.
Enoyed owning and using both of these mics over the years. NTK warmth worked great on powerful female voices - that touch of darkness or warmth made all the difference. Then along came the K2 and after further use of both decided the K2 gave me more flexibility but keeping that incredible sound. Less dark is the K2 - but warmth is still there. Cannot think of another mic in the price range of these two models that compare for quality and bang for the buck.
Have you checked out the Lauten Audio LA320. Beautiful tone but it doesn’t have multiple polar patterns.
I had the Rode K2 with a NOS Telefunken 6922. It outperforms the Neumann TLM 107 which I also owned. By the way, all tube microphones are supposed to hang upside down. You don't want to cook the diaphragm which can affect the performance of the microphone.
This is only the case with vintage tube mics. Modern mics like the K2 have proper heat shields and don't heat the capsule. This is even stated by Rode. A lot of old school engineers still hang mics upside down out of habit, but it's not necessary with new mics.
Those NOS 'Funkers' are going for close to 400.00 new now. They do make a difference.
I'm thinking of using a Rode K2 I've had in storage to record vocals for my next album. Been using an SM7 these past 2-3 years. Wondering if I could get some insight on both for both rap and melodic vocals
It’s my favourite! I record all my vocals with it ❤
I’ve owned 3 of them. Along with a 10k Sony and lots of Neumanns. This mic is incredibly versatile. You can’t go wrong for the price. Don’t even bother with the nkt if you’re on the fence about price. It’s worth it.
I see you got this out the vault lol. It sounds good.
Thanks brother.
Did you ever do a NTK VS K2 review? Would love to hear that.
Hey Archie! should I use this mic with a preamp ?
I'm currently running this mic with Apollo x4 just wondering if adding an external preamp is worth it
thank you.
Just purchased it and tried, it sounds great. Then I connected the NT1 as well and tested them both at the same time, they sound almost exactly the same. 😁
What a joke RØDE. 😃
It is an old microphone, NT1 has 5 generations of improvement, so here it is, basically the same mic. 😉😆
What is the Name of the pop filter you’re using ?
Have been using the K2 for a few years now and have recorded so far a few albums. Would love to see a comparison with the NTK as well how it stands up to other more expensive mics as well
NTK is a little harsh at the top end.
Great vid, love my K2!
Thank you 🙏🏾.. that's awesome
Great review, very useful. Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome and thank you for watching 🙌🏾
Hi. Great vid! 🙂👍. Do you have any idea why the back capsule sounds different from the front capsule ? Ideally for use as a sides mic in M/S, they should be identical, shouldn’t they? 🙃. Thanks again for the great demo.
Would you recommend this mic for someone who's voice is raspy and has big singing vocals? like any mic is going to be an upgrade from mine. I am currently using the presonus m7. Having a really hard deciding what should be the mic i invest in.
Need that Comparison K2 vs NTk
Yes, please do the comparison with the NTK!
Great review! Yes, a review with the NTK would be very interesting to me! I own the NTK, have had it for 15 years. It's great. I want to add the K2, but am worried I am duplicating a little bit, and may be better off looking at some other mic instead, but I am quite happy with the NTK, so why stray too far away?
That's awesome that you've had the NTK for 15 years. I purchased my NTK in 2007, which puts me around 15 years as well. They are completely two different microphones. I'm going to do a comparison video very soon to explain. Off the bat, I found the NTK a bit dark and the K2 more mid and top heavy. Also, the K2 gives you control over your polar patterns for different recording option. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz It sure does help, thanks! I own 5 different Rode mics, so I am a fan of them big time. The variable polar patterns is very much of interest to me. I was tempted to buy the NT2000 for that reason, but then thought I would save up and get the NTK's tube brother. Looking forward to your comparison! cheers GB
lf you want something different and better sounding try a valve mic with either a second tube for the output stage or one that's transformer based like almost all the high-priced mics out there. There's just no other way to sweeten up that initial signal. Well maybe if you've got very high-end post processing equipment. l bought a used Studio Projects T-3 just for a vocal comparison with my new K 2 and new Lauten LA-320 and l was sold. The T-3's frequency response graph doesn't cut it like a Peluso 67 or Neumann M-149 for vocals but it's a step in the right direction.
Would love to hear a comparison with the k2 and ntk.
It's on the way!
@@archiebeatz appreciate it, stay blessed.
How To Mix R&B Vocals | How I Mixed My Song "On Me". this url cant open , really wanna watch this video . thanks
I’ve been deciding on getting a new mic or sticking to my 15 year old rode k2.
What are some good vocal chains for this mic
Maybe the the UA 610 as a pre? Any suggestion on this would be great
I sing a lot of raspy/ rock type vocals, and I find I’m doing a LOT of post. Which is why I asked for some advice .
Respect on the video
K2 through a blue Robbie pre is butter… highly recommended.
i have been using k2 for 3 years now. bought from used. what i disliike is the self noise? cant raise the preamp gain above 2 o clock. what about you?
I'm fortunate enough to own a K2 modded by Michael Joly from the now defunct Oktavamod.
That's awesome Will... I know you are enjoying it 🙌🏾🎤
Yes sir thank you 👍🏿👍🏿💪🏿💪🏿
You are welcome brother! Thank you 🙏🏾
Awesome video 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Ali!
@@archiebeatz appreciate you, excited for more mic videos!!!! I just love hearing your voice through the different microphones!
Hi, how does this Rode K2 microphone compare to the Lauten audio FC-387 and Neumann U87 for vocal recording?
Very much so if not a little better
I have a very soft, my appeal thin male Voice. Do you think this mic Will give me enough midrange or should i look for another mic?
Honestly, the K2 will really highlight the midrange characteristic while providing warmth... That's one of the things I love about it. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz how does it hold up to the Neumann TLM 103?
Don’t even lie 😭my u87 is screaming. This might be the best budget vocal mic but that’s even a lie because we know it’s the SM7B right now. Even Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa even was using the 7B recently. But u87 is where it at
Hey! Of course higher end microphones captures better quality and are built with better material. My U87 is my go-to for pretty much everything. This video was designed to show that this is one of the best microphones for vocals... Also, it's rare to find tube microphones with this quality under $1000. It's all preference. It's great you found that the SM7B is better for your creative workflow. I own several SM7B mics and it's definitely an amazing microphone.. For me it's this K2 and the Sennheiser MK4 budget wise. It's all preference in a subjective realm of creativity as far as what's the best. This is just my perspective and I definitely suggest that everyone finds what works for them.
@@archiebeatz cant argue with that! I remember when I first started out in 2012. I had a 50 dollar mic and it was the dream for me
@@literaltrash2275 I started recording in 98 with a dell computer mic stuffed in a round cardboard tube with a stocking cap on the end of the tube.
I started recording in 98 with a dell computer mic stuffed in a round cardboard tube with a stocking cap on the end of the tube.
@@blackpowergod210 my first microphone was a small Logitech usb mic into a windows based program Audacity I believe was the “daw” if you can even call it that at the time (‘03)
be great if you can do a compare on the Rode ntk vs Rode K2 could help me decide what microphone to get
What would be the best mixer to use the Rode NTK mic on?
This sounds great! I have the Rode NT1 and love it but want to upgrade something that isn’t too costly. Would you recommend buying one of these used? If so where would you suggest ?
Thank you. If you can get it from a trusted seller, for sure. I tend to stay away from buying microphones used due to health code concerns. Let me know how everything turns out.
Does anyone know how to connect the k2 mic to a focusrite scarlet solo?
I have this mic too been working good
Nice!!!!
Sounds wide and warm
Which one sounds better between this one and the Rode NT2-a
Two different sounds in two different classes at different price points (materials, engineering and build.) The K2 captures more detail in my opinion. Also, the tube circuitry in the K2 is extraordinary. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz but which microphone you would suggest I pick as a beginner and I don't want something expensive, I want a good mic that's gonna give me a professional sound at a decent price. Something that's gonna sound good even before processing. Your suggestions please...
@@thepresidentofgames216 🤠 Just use your phone mic or your webcam mic or a camera mic like Rode VideoMicro, whilst you save up for a better mic. Rode NT1a would be a good all rounder, but you also need a dynamic microphone if you want better ambient noise rejection or perform live. Unless you have a soundproof mic booth, there's no point having a pro level mic anyhow.
@@meldmagic honestly I'd get the Sm7b and learn to mix as a beginner.
Good flat sounding c😢m. Sir, please review PELUSO P 280.
I don’t like this mic, I’m not sure why, the tone just doesn’t seem to work for my voice. I prefer the Lauten Audio LA320. Similar price too.
Pl. also conduct music test like Bsndrew.
How would this compare to the tlm 49
Would you prefer this one vs the Neumann tlm 103?
In some cases, yes. If I want to capture a vintage and warm tone vocal, I would go with this K2. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz it does thank you! I think I’ll try this one out then get the Neumann later on!
I love k2
Yessss! It's awesome right?
Yeah. I like it
sounds better than the Neumanns. I think people want to pay more money for things.
It definitely has a great quality sound. It's all about preference at the end of the day. I do prefer the K2 in a few applications over the U87 and U67 and vice versa. We're all just audio mad scientist creating. Thanks for dropping by Frank.
How does it against the TLM 103?
Same quality. Different sound. The K2 is warmer and you have control over the polar patterns for different recording options. While the TLM103 has the big bright Neumann sound. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz I’m looking for warmth. How does this compare to the WA87 r2?
@@cjo200 That's awesome. What I can tell you is that it's nice and warm because of it's tube design. I've haven't gotten my hands on the WA87 R2 yet but i can tell you this. With the WA87 R2 basically being a clone of the 87, they aren't designed to be warm. They have a FET transparent vintage sound. I hope this helps.
@@archiebeatz man you just did a big one and settles the score for me. Thank you a lot for your insight 🙏🏽💯.
Note: this mic does not come with the plastic molded case any more but it's still a bargain
Interesting! as Amazon still shows the hard case on the main k2 listing, but some sites show the k2 bundle for sale w/o hard case. I just purchased a k2 in like new condition from Amazon for $360, scheduled to arrive Saturday so I'll see if I get a hard case & if it's in "like new" condition.
Archie pl. also review GTZ U 87.
Don't buy!! There's so many better options, even with a budget of only 150 dollars you can get much better mics
What sets this one apart to make it so good
Hey Tessa! Well it's all about the individual creator's preference. For me personally, it's one of the best microphones across the board due to it's clarity, warmth characteristics and ability to toggle between the polar patterns on the power supply. Thank you for stopping by and asking your question 🙏🏾
@@archiebeatz I heard lewitt lct 1040 is the man.
@@TessaAnderson Really? Lots of my colleagues say great things about Lewitt microphones. I have to get my hands on one for sure.
@@archiebeatz don’t let your gf find out how much it cost if you buy it
@@TessaAnderson lol. I had to ask my fiancé yesterday for permission to get a new mic 😂😂… but come on. It’s essentially $15 a week if you get it on zzounds. 🤷🏽♂️
Hey thanks for this video! Just wondering how the Rode Classic II compares with the K2. Any idea?
See my comment on transformer tube mics like the Classic ll Vs. non-transformer offerings from Rode like the K2 and NTK. ls there a difference in sound quality? There better be for the price point.
Almost sounds better then a u87
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks Marcus!
