It has a beautiful surreality to the feel of the movie along with hints to the afterlife that could be or not be, very clever, a similar thing was done in Omen 3 with the latter.
From another youtube of this music: Me: "Ok folks, pay attention to the soundtrack in this. My wife (who is a musician) noticed it's loaded 3s, 6s and 9s. The "travelling melody" when Depp is walking around is 9 notes. One of the 3-note short bits is repeated 6 times. etc." Donald Wright: "The other thing to note is that the soundtrack frequently makes use of the tritone-the augmented 4th or diminished 5th-an interval that was forbidden in the Middle Ages, and known as the "diabolus in music" (the devil in music)! Not everyone would notice, but those who do, appreciate what a perfect accompaniment that provided!"
the double bass sounds like a slow, heavy and evil growl breath of a big creature. The wind instruments perform the slow and heavy movement. The Violins are like scared and terrified people running around in panic while fire surrounds everything. This soundtrack is a real art piece.
I have mixed feelings about the movie but the opening credits and this soundtrack have been running through my mind for days. Incredibly haunting, but somehow elegant, fit with the movie so well
I love this theme song. It is very gothic. Haunting and yet somehow alluring. It draws you in and makes it hard to not hit repeat over and over. I have had this fondness for The Ninth Gate for the longest time. To be clear I do not think it is a good movie. It’s very, very flawed. But I just absolutely love this mystery around the novels and the slow build of death all around the main character. I’d love to write a similarly styled noir-horror with a twist of supernatural. It’s a great genre. Not too many movies that fit that so probably why I like it so much.
@fgh depends of your taste after all its all a question of taste lets try and pop some known classics in the genre of "mystery" out there that you should see regardless of taste but if you want a more specific and accurate recommendation i will need like 3 movies of the genre that you liked most the older the movie you go the slower the pace of the movie (not to everyone liking , so i would jump directly to the 80 90's and so on if Hitchcock is too slow for you ) i would recommend "La confidential" (more of a detective old style mystery ) the Game , seven (seven deadly sins ) , the six sense are all classic that are up there that pop in my head when thinkoing on the genre .. if you dont mind passing through the border of science fiction or Thrillers i would recommend "alien" or "the thing" , "thirteen floor " or even "predestination" again depending on what you are searching ,, by all means even silence of the lamb can be considered a suspense movie if you are looking for exactly this genre of movie ( mystery with detective +"religion ") i would give " the name of the rose" a chance tough i warn you it is a long and a bit slow movie but will be worth your time
@fgh no problem (make sure you watch the original version of the thing 1982 by carpenter they made a remake ..lately and my opinion on a remake is if its not improving anything stick to the original
@@joshcreighton7493 i agree hitchcock had the magic touch in suspense but his movies were made in a time where the plot moves very slowly not the cup of tea for some people in modern times sadly so i would ask the person you recommend to if he has no problems with slower movies that build up in my opinion psycho rear window and vertigo are a master class sadly birds has not aged well but for its time it was amazing
The ninth gate has indications towards Tarot actually. It is a movie that indicates towards the occult. Johnny Depp did a serious role here in comparison to Pirates of the Caribbean.
I always thought that demonology and stuff like that was for teens but the way it is portrayed in the movie plus this OST makes you actually not only respect it but also be enthralled by it 😈
Like the mystery Corso was trying to solve; I’m having quite the search to find this song on iTunes. I may have to follow in his footsteps and travel far and wide to track down a soundtrack cd
The valse continues as the devil plays with the souls of man. A sick dance that forces everyone to follow along. Perhaps some are beginning to enjoy the music of the devil...
one of the best scores in one of the most underrated films of all time
I agree
It has a beautiful surreality to the feel of the movie along with hints to the afterlife that could be or not be, very clever, a similar thing was done in Omen 3 with the latter.
I like it underrated. No stupid masses asking for a sequel. No unsolicited reboot/prequel/sequel/serialization by Netflix and co.
True
You can thank debussy for that motif.
This song generates such an incredible atmosphere. We don't hear anymore this kind of piece of arts in movies.
This movie in general has a great atmosphere I loved this underrated gem!
qué v4v 33!
The same thing I was thinking!
Check out Christopher nolan
Justen listen to "The Ghostwriter-Sondtrack".
Still the best movie Depp has ever starred in to me. Horror-Noir masterpiece, largely underrated.
Did you also watch Angel Heart (1987)? That’s another ultimate Horror-Noir classic.
@@greatdelusion7654 Another of the greats for sure. I really like that one as well. They don't make em like those any longer.
I love these movies where Satan is revealed to you

A spectacular opening to one of the most underrated movies of all time. Wojciech always delivers.
Died 9 years ago.
By far the most awesome cinematic piece ever written
I think this movie is an underrated gem it’s atmosphere alone is excellent!

Almost as if the angel of music and beauty was the composer himself.
Perfect extraordinary music.RIP Maestro Wojciech Kilar.

the movie is quite rough indeed, but the soundtrack, just woah
I get goosebumps listening to this thru earbuds.
Killer piece from a brilliant film.
Great soundtrack for a great movie.

Man that bass divisi at the beginning! Coming from the depths of hell itself!
A score that brought the film to life. A true classic 👌
This composition make you feel like you are falling into pieces!
If Hell had an official theme - this would be it.
I could listen to this forever
same here, just watched the movie and loved it!
watched it 10 years ago and still revisit this every bow and then
Such a great film, love the soundtrack too. Fits perfectly.. Haunting!
the best mystery movie !!
not the best but a very underappreciated movie in that genre

the older the movie you go the slower the pace of the movie (not to everyone liking , so i would jump directly to the 80 90's and so on if Hitchcock is too slow for you )
i would recommend "La confidential" (more of a detective old style mystery )
the Game , seven (seven deadly sins ) , the six sense are all classic that are up there that pop in my head when thinkoing on the genre .. if you dont mind passing through the border of science fiction or Thrillers
i would recommend "alien" or "the thing" , "thirteen floor " or even "predestination" again depending on what you are searching ,, by all means even silence of the lamb can be considered a suspense movie
if you are looking for exactly this genre of movie ( mystery with detective +"religion ")
i would give " the name of the rose" a chance tough i warn you it is a long and a bit slow movie but will be worth your time

@@TheBarbahaba LA Confidential is good. A lot of Alfred Hitchcock's films were mystery/thriller/suspense based. Rear Window is a god start.

First time i've heard this was in the H.P. Lovecrafts audiobook. That was an incredible experience.
Булдаков?
@@viktortroshkin8641 да, но не помню книгу. Кажется "Музыка Эриха Цанна"
Darkly majestic score. One of Polanski's best films.
Why is it that almost every piece from WK reminds me the dark sadness of vampires?
Wonderful score for a brilliant film!
Watched this movie 200 + time. Extraordinary
The best mystery movie of all time. It is a collection of christian-horror and crime masterpiece. ALL HAIL THE NINTH GATE
This score is outstanding & brilliant!, in my opinion. This entire soundtrack is great!
best score, wonderful film, 100/10
I love this piece of music, and one of my all time favorite movies
Haunting and shivers down my spine every time...

Yes, but be careful...
My fav soundtrack of all time ❤❤❤ followed by
Ravenous - The Pit.

an absolute masterpiece
Excellent movie
Amo esta música 🎶 melancolía, frío de invierno,,amanecer... tempestad ...si ...trágico y bello al mismo tiempo
My favourite Depp movie 😍😍😍
It was the only serious movie he was in. Pirates of the Caribbean was for children.
A silent dance one paced to where even a heartbeat would tremble so.....
Piękna muzyka Wojciecha Kilara Biutifull😆😆😆😆
This song
One of a kind 😉
Feeds your inner satan? 😆
Or this piece feeds on your soul....
Polanski knows how to make films and pick his composers. This is glorious.
great theme
At 1:28 that branch cracking behind you thats creepy af
Kilar's nailed most satanic and elegant piece. Unholy trinity, how good it is. Dance to this pure art.
Soundtrack better like Club Dumas novel.
Divine 🕯️ light eternal 🕯️ everlasting light 🕯️
ESTÁ MELODÍA ME TRANSPORTA A LO DESCONOCIDO!! GENIAL 👌🖤
Piece of art...
Dracula 9th gate same masterpiece killar😮
Johnny depp was amazing as an beloved actor❤
Wow! Amazing music. I remember I once saw this movie but forgot how powerful the music was. Awesome!
The music of The Beast.
Great workout music
If youre a goth basically...😂
One and the darkest music ever❤
Must watch. One of those films. Do You SEE IT YET?
Green eyes🔥🐍♥️♥️
So simple, but creates the ghostly feeling in the movie. (Am I shadowblocked?)
....Sweet like pain and suffer!
Shame they never made a part two, lots of hidden riddles in this movie
pure macabre!..
Diabelska muzyka. Kilar był geniuszem a jego kompozycje poruszają ostatnią szarą komórkę przeciętnego słuchacza.
We can clearly spot the Bram Stoker's Dracula influence in this score
its that movie you wanna see every end of the week and read the book no matter what i guess
Mistrovské Dílo.. 👍
To vskutku je, soundtrack přesně podtrhava celý film, který miluji
EXCELLENT FILM. HOW SATAN REALLY OPERATES.
A little bit of dark magic from the composer of Bram Stoker’s Dracula
موسيقى غموض واثارة
رااائعة 💥💥💥
My only complaint is that this isn’t longer!
Heavens! It sounds more of a Bram Stoker's Dracula
Is the same composer Wojciech Kilar(Rip)
Inquiétante,Angoissante
Si prennante cette musique
Such a creepy theme it gives me chills.
it gives me despair..! hell's despair
#justiceforjohnnydepp

Dark Best song !!! 😈👍👌
That's the FUTURE of the VOLTURI..........Aro is back....the dark angel.
Do you know magic
The best film of Polanski !!
Great
Very similar to John Williams' theme for "The Fury".
♥️♥️♥️♥️
All one has to do is close thine eyes and traverse...
Love it!
Such strong
Spectacular Jhonny Depp

I hope the soundtrack is on iTunes. Can’t find this beautiful score.
Dark song 👹👍
Laughed so hard as i realized they used this in the newest WoW add-on xD
