    my problem is i hurt my left achilles/ankle some months back. i was on crutches for a few weeks, my whole leg atrophied. since then, my left glutes are inactive/dormant, and so my whole gait is off. my left glute isn't firing up and my quads are overcompensating, causing patellar maltracking (its getting pulled up to far into the quads) and straining my patellar tendon underneath. now my patella is really loose/unstable, just barely resting my hand on it moves it around and i can feel it grinding on my femur.

    I do both a double and single leg press. I have a loose knee having sprinted on it 3 years ago. It improved but I still have laxity. Problem with the close chain machine is progress. I can press 100kg for 10 but it is brutal. The open chain has a lot more progress left in the bag. But I do feel the instability in the knee on the open chain machine. Stick to just close chain for both double and single work or do both open chain for double leg work and closed chain for single.

    Ah great does this help to strengthen weak ligments in the knee. Injury from football years ago but because I never really trained on it since it very weak and easily injured. Will this help to strengthen that and eventually get me back to full on football. Love the vid

    • @physiorehab

      It helps the muscle strength and bull but you need to work on knee stability drills for the ligaments

    I’ve been rehabbing my knee over the last two months. I can not get my quad to tighten at any time throughout the range of motion, this also applies to wall/ball squats. The only thing that tightens my quad muscles is the leg extension exercise. Any thoughts about this unusual phenomenon? Thank you!

    • @physiorehab
      @physiorehab  2 года назад +3

      It’s actually more common than you think. Switch to squats instead of leg press

What should I stay away from that doenst flex my knee in a precarious position?

      Paikuhan Sensei well I’m back to playing soccer once a week but i use a knee brace. I gained so much weight, that the knee sleeve wasn’t enough anymore. I will not lie, my leg workouts suck because my range of motion is not all there anymore, so I stick to machines or stuff that doesn’t pass 90 degrees. I can do 30 minutes on the stair master every day with minimal pain, a 2 on a 1-10 scale. When I play, I don’t feel any pain during or after. I do play on turf sometimes and there is pain there, since turf is really bad for the knee. Especially a surgically repaired one. So I can do a full game on real grass, 90 minutes and on turf the pain is bad within 10 minutes. But overall i am at a 60% of what I used to be. I’ll never be at 100 but that’s fine, as long as I can workout and do soccer once a week.

      There's no noticeable difference between the two. This is bs, sadly.
      The angle you press in is irrelevant, as long as your legs are in the same position in relation to the rest of your body.

  • @mission772
    @mission772 4 года назад +2

    I thought open chain is where you have no vertical pressure through you leg like a leg extension, and closed chain is when the weight is going vertical in a leg press machine. So wouldn't both machines be closed chain?

    • @physiorehab
      @physiorehab  4 года назад

      Closed chain is where the foot is fixed and the body moves away (squats, lunges, deadlifts, seated leg press). Open chain is where the body is fixed and the foot moves away (leg extension, 45 deg leg press, kicking)

      I think as much. Ask me after 20 years of bodybuilding with arthritis. Though he is right, any machine that allows for locking out and loosing muscle tension is a no go, but that's more about how you prepare the setup. I can very well do a 45 degree sled leg press and position myself without any chance of lockout.

    I had a hysterectomy 14 weeks ago and was instructed the leg press machines increase downward pressure on the pelvic floor, which is something to avoid at this time. I had a tibial plateau fracture, and simple scar tissue clean out 2 months prior to the hysterectomy. I need to regain quad strength, any advice as to which machine or how to proceed? I have been skiing already. I have crepitus on the lateral patella area, which returned about 5 weeks into PT post arthroscopy. Now I was stuck on a couch for 3 months recovering from the other surgery.
