damn you are inspirational dude! just took a look at your channel and seeing all the tricks you've taught yourself at this age got me feeling pumped to get out there and really try learning some new stuff. Even though im only 21, ive been in such a rut doing the same flat ground tricks all the time and never taking the time to learn new stuff. Keep shredding dude!
Thanks. 😁 Sometimes those 2 years feel like a long time. Other times, it like it was yesterday. Time is weird, especially as you get older. Thanks for the comment. 👊
Man, that was so fun to watch, and I really like your vibes. It shows what every skater knows: happiness from skateboarding is not dependent on your level.
Ive been doing nollie heels for about 20 years now and the credit card factor never permanently goes away. That's probably the last trick i throw out on flat when i warm up just for that reason.
Now there is an inspiration, man... I'm definitely going to think differently about my skate progression from here on out. I also got my first kickflip as a 36 YO, and I hope I can do a few more flip tricks and do them well for a while to come. By the way for the ankle sprain, it's something basketball players tend to do when landing in traffic, and it's to lightly raise your toes up into the roof of the shoes, which makes the muscles in the foot stabilize the ankle when landing. It also will naturall dorsiflex your ankle a bit which is a way safer position to avoid ankle rolls compared to an extended ankle.
Just go at a level and pace appropriate for you. Everybody skates in their own way. But that’s the important part… the fact that you’re skateboarding. 👊👍
This was super relatable (I’m 31, btw). I was in this exact same boat about 5 or 6 months ago! It felt amazing to get all 8 in one session. Next step was getting them all in a row. You’ll definitely get there if you keep practicing. All 8 become fairly easy over time. I’m now working on getting all 8 in a row on my first attempt. Thanks for the inspiration to keep improving!
@@mattbabb. you should absolutely film it. Not only do I get to share my skating by filming, but I also learn a lot by watching things back in slow motion. It’s a great tool.
So stoked for you. Thanks for sharing. Goals: - I am still trying to dial in my kickflip. I have landed some, but have no confidence in them. - My other goal is to dial in backside airs. I have landed a handful but barely above coping and that was two years ago. Your progress has encouraged me to keep going for it. I will try to document the progress and post it up once I get them.
Thanks 😁 It would be amazing to do the straight 8 with no mistakes. I’m not sure it’s possible but I never thought landing each of them was possible either. 👍👊
Your regular heel and switch kickflip are the prettiest. I have yet to do a regular kickflip that didn't turn into a front impossible abomination so I've been sticking to heelflips. You gave me motivation to go for the kick flips again.
It’s crazy that my switch flips are going so well. Learning the switch flip also gives me a clue to what might be happening with your kickflip. I wrap my front foot with the board and nearly do like a hospital flip on my switch flip sometimes. It happens because I flick too much into the nose. I have to force myself to flick more out the side to compensate. Give it a try. You got this. 👊👍
@@StuffnThings42 Yeah that's what happens to mine. I catch the entire nose of the board and it gets funky. Gave myself a really bad edema and put them on the back burner. I keep trying to do them like heelflips which is probably the issue.
Hey a big tip is to flick it like you're trying to kick the board away from you, and towards the ground. Don't act like you're trying to kick the ground through the deck, but more so act like you're going to kick out of a stairset.
something thatll probably help you catch your kickflips and get them more tweaked out is trying to delay your flick and direct your flick forward. if you slow down pro footage of kickflips youll see that they pop and just hang a couple moments before flicking through the top of the nose and forward, leveling out the board. it sounds a lot harder than it is, i promise. you really gotta be ready to bail, but i strongly suggest you try a couple attempts just popping, getting that rocket angle, and THEN flicking forward. even trying while landing one foot on the board, youll get a feel of how it levels out like that. then the catch comes naturally, at least for me. if the board is properly leveled out it should sorta suck up to your back foot as you bring it down before you hit the ground. hope this can help a bit
I see you're wearing 187 elbows and triple 8 wrists... did you ever try the 187 Killer wrists? I'm leaning towards the 187, but curious for opinions on those who have worn both. Awesome job on the 8 flips in one session!
Thanks for the comment and the question. I have not used 187 wrists. I've been using Triple 8 wrists forever... I started using them back in the 2000s when I used to inline skate (man that was a long time ago 😅). But I do love them. They've prevented serious injury so many times. If I don't feel like wearing my elbows and helmet, I ALWAYS wear my wrist guards. 👍
`fakie flips are easier once u have mastered the art of popping your tail backwards rather than just down. so when u are doing regular kickflips, pop the tail down and back , so when you flick, the board doesnt fly forward away from you with the kicking foot(unless you want to tweak out your kickflip)...the popping away or tweaking your popping foot backwards will neutralise the board directly under u:).......like nollies or nollie flips/heels;

funny how people call some tricks basic. i may have in my own way in my youth saw some tricks easier than others, but it wasnt right for me to think that way, and it comes from a cave in the mind of insecurities and self judgement.. i can do a lot of flip tricks, i wont say any of them are basic. all those 'basics' took time to learn and all are amazing,,,esp an ollie which is magic....even tic tacs, magic,,,,, for example....when u learn a 360 flip and have it down or a lets say kicklip tailslide.....its easier now and 'basic',,,,,you still took time to learn that. i know skaters who can 360 flip and cant kickflip...different feeling for the ankles to do etc etc and mentally,,,its what your body wants to express individually vs enjoying others do a trick u fan over,,,,,,,,,,, it was never basic. u were attracted to the trick and sought and sweat and bled to learn.
