Love that Mitchie touches on the impact of ego that can get in the way of learning how to skate switch if you're already an experienced skater. To others, you'll look like a beginner. To your body, you'll feel like a beginner. Change your mind to face facts and see yourself as a beginner and get out of your own way. Before you know it, you won't be a beginner skating switch anymore. Good luck!
You're ability to articulate these concepts has already helped me to improve dramatically - thanks so much for being an awesome dude and sharing your knowledge!
1st solid hippy jump is definitely a feeling you'll never forget . Mine was over a road barrier. It taught me what it means to suck up your knees. Muchisimo gracias for sharing these brilliant productions.
Oh man. There is a spot close to mine with a perfect road barier to do a hippie jump. I must try it. Although my first thought when I saw it was to sneak under it while doing nolie shovit :)
48 years old, here. Been back on the board for 3 years now. It's a blast. Just take into consideration that progress will be slower than when we where young.
I'm 48....still at sponsor level my new stickers jus came out.....and shredded like slim rambo.....full 80s ray barbee type fully reset to fit 2025 and beyond I couldnt imagine not skating in my 30s n 40s I was better at 38 than at 17 .... you dudes my age.... my heart hurts for you guys😢 luv mitchie......he helps relearn and reset stuff we shud already know for non beginners
45 here... back skating a few times a week for the first time since school. Started in '89, gutted I didn't skate through my 20's and 30's. Now or never!
I gave my little brother (20 years younger) his first skateboard this summer, and your videos and approach help me so much to teach him while he still has fun. Guess what he's gonna get for Xmas... yes, a subscription for your online lessons. Someone of your lvl teaching like this is a big big blessing (also for me). Thank you so much
Thanks for opening my mind to switch Mitchie. When I tried switch first time, my thoughts were "it feels like I am on the board for the first time so I must suck at it", then I gave up imediately. And now you are saying this is the actual feeling I might get. So I will give it another go and spend more time on it. I would see it as an achievement to even learn cruising switch but with confidence.
I actually really liked learning to skate switch at first. I've always had this weird obsession with the mystery of skateboarding stance and this curiosity about what physically makes someone ride goofy or regular. So due to that, it just felt really rewarding and fascinating to finally push around switch and have it start to feel normal.
Bought a new skateboard today because of you. I’m 30 and haven’t skated since maybe I was 17. I was never any good, could kinda do a few things. I legit think I can have a ton of fun relearning with you. You are the man!
I'm 48, i started skating wheb i was 13 or something, but mostly street, i am now daring to learn ramp skating properly for the first time and all the dudes in youtube explaining it are a great help, Brusco being one of my favorites.
Yea i skated a lot growing up but wasnt super good really, could kickflip and some random stuff. But during the pandemic, i started skating again at 29-30 and learned way more tricks than i ever learned when i was younger just diving into the basics and getting a strong foundation. but then i started focusing on harder tricks, got rusty on the basics and now i suck again lol but might dive back in soon tho
nice man, im turning 34 soon and i last year i was injured and had to get ACL repair surgery..i had bag of tricks but lost most of it, so im getting my kickflip back and all my other flip tricks xD make sure you get good with the basics and everything else will come easily
I'm a middle-aged viewer, and I've been watching for a few months You are by far the best coach (for my way of thinking) I've ever come across. In fact, after watching this video, I finally visited my local skate shop and built my first board. I just got home after spending 2 hours in the entrance of ONE OF my local parks (luck +10) just trying to figure out the balance exercises you covered here. What a challenge!! Instant addict. Thank you!
i’ve been skating for under a year and had some pretty gnarly progression. i couldn’t thank anyone more than you , ive gotten obsessed with skateboarding and made it a lifestyle. I have so much more to learn , and come back and watch ur videos numerous times. you are a pioneer in this profession. always love to express the love to this community and couldn’t be more thankful to be apart of it
The one and only advantage of relearning to skate in my 30s, is that a year doesn’t feel like a long time anymore. When I was 14 a spending a year on fundamentals would have felt impossible.
Dude, thank you for this. I'm 40 and learning with my sons and I'm trying to build as strong of a foundation as possible and learn all the micro steps building to tricks.
I'm 29 and I've been skating for 15 years. This video is really complete and is full of tips to improve my skate skills. Is a pleasure to watch a legend sharing his tips to be better at skating. Greatings from Bogotá, Colombia 🇨🇴
Tutorials like this (in this level of quality) used to be about 16 DVDs long with each priced at $9,99 or so... The fact that we can watch these exemplary tutorials for free is just priceless! Thanks for being this way Mitchie (and his team)!
Maaaan, I really can’t thank you enough. Your approach and the way you instruct is so valuable it makes me grateful I’m learning to skate now so I can benefit from SkateiQ. For one reason or another I thought skating wasn’t for me until I was 33. I’m 1.5 years in and the lessons you give have saved me from reinforcing bad habits and opened my mind to skating in a new way that makes waaaaayyy more sense than what some of these other folks are saying. It’s a very helpful perspective to have when you’re feeling like you’re not progressing fast enough. The reminder that these foundations will get you there is reassuring. Thank you for all the hard work and insight.
These hourlong videos are valuable resources. It's giving me so many ideas for how to put together a session in a way that's a bit more organized while still having fun. Because I'm kinda old (49) and just wanting to roll first, roll fast, and figure out what I'm doing as I go along, I tend to be a bit all over the place, fall more than I probably need to, and risk hurting myself. It's hard for me to overstate how awesome it is to have these fundamentals broken down into their parts and be reminded to check/let go of my ego. It just opens up possibilities. Thanks so much Mitchie!
42:40 AND NEXT FEW MINS CHANGED MY SKATING COMPLETELY. The pro-tip around the front knee alignment to your front shoulder, and how your tib/fib are angling to make the bottom of your shoe parallel instantly added about 9" to my ollies. I went out in the driveway, visualized, and it was nearly instant. At times I was lol'ing at the results. I'm hopping on the free-trial train to see what other nugs are in the content provided. Much love Mitchie!
This is the type of video I was hoping to see. Like I've written last time, I've understood from a long time that basics are important in any fields. Then rinse and repeat to learn new skills or mastering them. Some of what you showed I got a grasp myself but without teachers like you we can't see the subtleties. And that skating community is for the most part driven by ego for the wrong reasons. Younger I didn't want to skate because I was afraid of hurting my knees in a bad fall (the nightmare for basket ball, or anything really to me). Now I don't care because I know that we can take time when we have the right mechanics to learn anything. 41 years old, 1 year and a half in, practice at a leisure pace but I don't see myself quitting now. It will probably take me a while but that's the journey! Great one! Funny and all! Thank you!
Finally someone is touching on the importance of switch. It opens up so many possibilities, especially at skate spots that are more friendly to other stances than yours. A ledge isn’t only backside for you if you can hit it switch frontside!
i'm not even joking i was researching all week on how to get better. i tried looking up drills and what not and found little to nothing. this video was def god sent 🙏
Mitchie is one of the best teachers of skateboarding I have ever seen! And the fact that this video (and many of his others) is really long-just goes to show the reflection of what he’s all about and believes in, which is no shortcuts and really investing time into working from the ground up with solid foundation for the greatest results, love it! And also the fact that it’s all for free is what’s amazing. Thank you so much Mitchie God bless you!
40 years old skateboarded alot as kid and teen. You are giving me hope I can get back into it. Wish I had these tutorials growing up. You are a natural.
I started skateboarding when RUclips was first becoming a thing 25 odd years ago. There was nothing like this then. This channel is truly amazing, you're not only a fantastic teacher, but your ability to break tricks down into smaller skills is what I find so helpful!
I've been following your shorts for almost a year now and I had not a single idea that you are Mitchie Brusco... I feel so dumb but yet validated on how gnarly your skating is.
Your last few videos want me to try out your course! I'm just waiting for spring time here in Europe so I can get the most out of it. Will work on basics during the wintertime :)
Heeey!! My name is Fernando, I am from Costa Rica, I am "learning" to skate again after a more than 15 year break, currently 34 yo... First of all I want you to know that I am so proud of you, dude you are AWESOME!!, and that's an amazing progress,...if I can give you a mini tip is when you are getting on the sidewalk with an ollie, once you get on top try to bend your knees a little to avoid the skateboard spitting you, like flying to the front ans shooting you backwards, i saw you get a bid behind the board, bending your knees helps you to stay on top of it rather than staying behind it, it keeps your center of gravity low. Dude you really inspire me, best of luck, may God bless you and who knows, maybe one time we can skate together. Also always wear protection, knee and wrists primarily, cause once you get better, and you will, you will feel more secure and have less fear, and that is usually when you fall harder 😂
you are the absolute goat in terms of teaching skateboarding, thank you for doing this GENUINELY. You've helped me a lot in improving my ollies and fs 180s, keep doing what you're doing, spread the love and knowledge of skateboarding ❤❤
You helped me soooo much. I got my first skateboard this year on Christmas and I drove it yesterday and today the first time. Today in the morning I struggled with pushing and steer at the same time. I tried it this afternoon again and now I can cruise and I'm way better🫶🏻Thx
The thing I love the most of these pro skate teachers, is that they can fail on purpose, recreating with great precision your noob's mistakes, and still, they don't fall as you do. And they do it, so you can better understand what are you doing wrong
Loving this video. The vibe is so chill and welcoming, and there's some great tips. I've tried skateboarding in the past but wasn't great. But I wanted to try again properly. I'm getting a new board for Christmas, and I've been watching a load of videos haha. So far this has been the best one. Breaking things down nicely :)
Oh man, I don't know why but this is just so ASMR. It's like 1 hour stimming. Even tho it's snowing outside and I will have to wait for months to get skating again, watching Mitchie going back and forth effortlessly and well balanced for one hour is almost like skating oneself. "The well balanced skater" ;-)
Man, now I get what the feeling reminds me about: "Take an 8 inch board. Do some happy little kickturns. Just go back and forth. Apply a little bit more pressure on this side of the brush .... errr board.... "
I've been skating for about 8 months now, and that tip about practicing popped hippie jumps while slanting your front leg back and opening up your hip a bit made a world of difference in the consistency of my ollies. I felt like every few weeks I'd some how "lose" my ollie and I'd be extremely annoyed that it felt like I could never just have a consistently clean ollie, but after I got that down my ollies feel so much more controlled and floaty. I almost landed my first kickflip the other day too when I applied the same principle to the attempt. I really wish more tutorials mentioned this, you don't even mention this in your how to ollie video (unless I'm mistaken). Thanks!
I just had to stop my workout to post thing. First, this is probably one of the best skateboard VIDEOS on RUclips, and I'm pretty sure I've seen them all. Second, Mitchie: Let's take a 180, for instance.. At the same time: Does one of the sickest 180s I've seen. It's so subtle.. He kinda backs it up, and then turns.
I used to struggle with learning a heelflip. Then I saw Mitchie's video and struggled doing proper ollies. Saw another video and started struggling with manuals. Now I saw this video and struggle pushing. After the next video, I won't be able to walk anymore... 😀
How many people who have been skating 10-20+ years and STILL get A LOT from Mitch and SkateIQ? No matter how well we are skating there is so much helpful skate physics info in here it’s amazing. It’s different from “tips” videos because it helps you understand your own skating! ❤
Im 48 and a woman going through menopause and am scared shitless that im gonna injure myself skateboarding (bones and whole body is more brittle and takes longer to recover now) so i bought (the butt protection included) all the protection gear but it feels so weird cause I learned to skateboard when i was six years old and skated actively until i was nineteen and never wore any protective gear, i stopped after getting into university and then skated on and off, i used to be able to ollie which i was always terrible at and today i came across your other video telling us not to swipe your foot up but to just do a hippie jump, thats what im gonna try after i get my leg strength and balance back after 30 years of inactive skateboarding, im so glad i came across your channel ❤ (I never skated ramps but now we got a new skatepark here and im practicing there but im more of a street, sidewalk skateboarder, we never had skateparks when i was growing up).
Man, I wish the older kids I grew up with were such careful instructors, instead we got made fun of for wearing helmets or not having an ollie mark. Great job and what a backdrop!
Man that landscape behind you is insane, ive Been off a board for around 10 years, i can do flips and stuff no chance of landing them so I'm getting my balance and mainly street skating but alot of these exercises will help heaps, ive been going for manuals alot lately. I've got a bad hip and ankle so some of these are gonna be difficult. I use the front toe shoe to slow down instead of heal.
I’ve been skating since 5 stopped a long time when highschool came because of sports. But can still mess around on flat. But man all my transition confidence left me hahaha these videos have been accelerating me back to where I was (confidence) wise was
okay 39:24 is a crazy pic at the right frame. beautiful boned ollie in front of a mountain _and_ his hands are all yin and yang like he's some karate kid. c'mon dawg
The flag bit had me cracking up! But also, thank you for your videos. You've already helped me plenty as I get back into skating after a 25+ year hiatus. I'll surely revisit this one often
I have never thought about balancing in this way. I did one foot practice sometimes, but just because it was fun. I'll definitely redo my balance practice from now on. Just started learning to skateboard this year 😊
got a board this christmas, gonna create a whole skill tree from this video and work on it. I still gotta get comfortable moving and pushing so I have barely any balance.
My parents made me quit skateboarding at 13 cuz they were “thugs and bad kids” 😅.. I picked up drums and made horrible decisions because of it lmao.. getting back into skateboarding at 37 now with my own kids.. just having fun I love this!!! Thanks dude.
ive been getting back into skating and this is like legit perfect. am considering getting a longboad so i can cruise to work. i wonder if i can practice these tips switch and build that as a base as well. youre doing great work man

"Take an 8 inch board.
Second,
Mitchie: Let's take a 180, for instance..
At the same time: Does one of the sickest 180s I've seen. It's so subtle.. He kinda backs it up, and then turns.
Wish I had this guy 20 years ago when I first picked up skating. Just got a board and getting back after 12 years of not skating cause of you!
I used to struggle with learning a heelflip. Then I saw Mitchie's video and struggled doing proper ollies. Saw another video and started struggling with manuals. Now I saw this video and struggle pushing. After the next video, I won't be able to walk anymore... 😀
Your videos production quality is awesome Mitchie, I think it’s awesome what you’re doing!!
i have 39 years , and is very challenge learning this sport, so is gold for me.
Let’s Go! Great teacher
So many lightbulbs go off in my head every time I watch you. God bless your soul sir 🫡🙏🏾🙌🏾💚
Dude I don't even skateboard , but the way you're so passionate and engaging about your teaching I'ma just subscribe anyways haha
Best teacher since Onizuka !
Just thank you mate !
i love these videos. 3 months into learning... this is great.
The view around the skatepark is insanely beautiful!!!
Next level content
This is so helpful I can’t wait to try skateboarding again in better weather 🙏🏽 now I have a full guide through
Thank you for your content man❤
Thanks Mitchie.
This is great content and I'm learning a lot about where my fundamentals are lacking.
I really appreciate for all the videos and lessons from you!! They always help me a lot to learn while I practice!!
How many people who have been skating 10-20+ years and STILL get A LOT from Mitch and SkateIQ? No matter how well we are skating there is so much helpful skate physics info in here it’s amazing. It’s different from “tips” videos because it helps you understand your own skating! ❤
BRUSCO U THE MAN!!!
I love this guy! You saved my life!
you have the best tutorials ever! thank you
On god you my new daily skate tutorial guy
The best video i've ever seen about skateboarding.
Im starting and im the only enthusiast in my Town, this video is being a goldmine for me to learn by myself
Can't wait to get on the board, so inspiring ❤ Have fun!
Legend, love the content. Very informative!
But man all my transition confidence left me hahaha these videos have been accelerating me back to where I was (confidence) wise was
Another phenomenal mind-blowing video 🙏🙏🙏
okay 39:24 is a crazy pic at the right frame. beautiful boned ollie in front of a mountain _and_ his hands are all yin and yang like he's some karate kid. c'mon dawg
You're the man-- Thank you so much for this video. Subscribed. Thank you for inspiring me
i wont lie i was admiring the background the entire time cuz in the uk the weather is shit at the moment
This Video is Gold. Thx man!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us
The flag bit had me cracking up!
Great video thanks Mitchie
Just promise us one thing... Please don't become a scientologist!
Lol he already is
My parents made me quit skateboarding at 13 cuz they were “thugs and bad kids” 😅..
