I have the R1T - a few quirks but it’s truly a revolutionary vehichle. I have no regrets.

Wow if my door ever got a bit of water in it and it was swooshing back and fourth I would seriously lose my mind. That’s insane to me. I have had around 10 new vehicles over the last 24 years and never heard of that happening

  • @sworks7124

Alot of the issues stated are present in the low vin numbers. I am at 24xxxx and do not have these issues. The window not going all the way up was caused by an update two updates back and if you place a service ticket the tech will come out and re calibrate the firmware per window and fix your issues. The wind noise is also due to window recalibration mine had issues with wind noise after the service tech recalibrated the windows it was gone, the truck is dead quiet. My computer is pretty fast on load up of screens also. I will add if Rivian gives the R1T Apple Carplay it would make the truck so much better.

Agree with 90% of your complaints in this issue. My biggest issues have been bouncy suspension (fixed in recent update), laggy screen changes (hopefully coming soon), unusable charging pad, and inconsistent phone-as-key unlocking (also hoping they can improve in the future). 3rd party charging definitely sucks and is the biggest deterrent to buying a non-Tesla EV right now. I regularly drive ~350 miles twice a month with some serious elevation gain; there are 2 Rivian chargers and one EVgo charger I'll use on this route. The Rivian chargers have been so reliable that I'll stop at both even if I don't need to charge at one. If I can skip the EVgo charger and get there with over 10% I'll do that instead. The Rivian chargers have been at Tesla reliability for me. I really don't understand why these dedicated fast charging companies are so far behind in terms of reliability. Anyways, all of these complaints are really minor in the grand scheme of things. This is a phenomenal truck and IMO the most versatile vehicles you can buy right now.

Hi Ryan.. glad to see the channel. .we also start a small Rivian channel.. We had it for 2 months.. and the wind-noise is my only issue. I installed rubber seals to reduce the wind shield noise. Noise is less but I will try to have Rivian fix it.

Great review! Lots of little quirks and issues but for a first model from a new automaker, that’s pretty fantastic. Hope they stick around long enough for us to see what the second and third generation of this and the R1S will look like!

Ryan, you are brave, optimistic and have deep pockets. As a 15 year old in 1979, when McDonalds opened in my town I wouldn’t go there for the first month because I figured they didn’t know how to make hamburgers yet at that location. As a contractor, my guess is Rivian will find out that mobile service is far too expensive to sustain. Rivian’s stock has driven off a cliff in 2024, and off course other than Tesla and Toyota’s hybrid, non ICE vehicles are experiencing extreme head winds.

Absolutely love mine, almost a year in and I wouldn’t change a thing. I prefer driving it to our Model Y and I agree that the sound system (Meridian) isn’t quite as good as Tesla’s. Haven’t had the water sloshing issue, did have a few issues rendering the truck undriveable and Rivian triages issues, so it was 3 days before it was back home. For cosmetic/non-critical issues, the wait times are months long as said in the video.

Doors are hard to close because they need a tight seal for water fording. Intentional design, but I understand why that can be annoying.

The “rolling” in reverse (when I’m actually backing up) that causes car to immediately switch to park happens in my husband’s model 3 a lot too. Does not happen in my X. Interesting

OTA and mobile service (Tesla Rangers for me) are the way to go. Much cheaper than Lexus door to door vehicle swapping and less cost and hassle for the consumer. Dealers are a way of the past. You can have a small service team in every mid-size to major city with mechanical, electrical and body adjustment expertise.

Flipping through screens to change climate control or to just move a vent is both cumbersome and unsafe while driving.

Is it true that a simple rear quarter panel dent could cost you 40k to repair? From what I understand the panels are interlaced with just about everything making simple repairs labor intensive. In my opinion a truck is meant to be used as a tool not a trophy.

Rivian has tough competition as i got the ford lightning and that thing has been amazing. Ford had a big advantage by using a pre-existing platform that's got 75 years of innovation and testing.

I own a Rivian and it has been excellent. I did have random shift to park issue when backing down my drive. It would occur when I was just moving the truck around and I had my seat belt off and tailgate down. When I was looking over my shoulder, I was shifting my weight on seat. Without the seat belt on, the truck senses the driver may not be present (???) and it would shift to park every time. Annoying - but I now fasten seat belt to back up 100ft and don’t have problem. You may have different issue but sounded similar.

Ryan, I don't hear too many people saying another big issue with owning a Rivian. Here in Ca, renewing the registration has been a nightmare. My renewal fees are $1,200! That's not a typo. Plus, it's a commercial vehicle due to the weight and now I have to fill out all these forms, but I don't know everything that I need. Rivian has not been helpful, as I'm sure CA isn't the only one with registration issues. Oh yeah, Wind noise has been an issue since day 1

    • @jackking5631
      @jackking5631 7 месяцев назад

I took my r1t in service center 3 times for the wind noise repair in last 10 months, it gets slightly better over time but still pretty noticeable over 55 mph. Understood it’s a truck but it is a deal breaker if I knew this in the beginning😂. And from what I heard from the other owners (including r1s), this seems to be a common issue that Rivian cannot fix.

Yep, it's a lot of money. Do you have a list of other expensive vehicles you wouldn't buy? Besides, t's hardly any more money than a loaded F-150 platinum. It is expensive, but I love mine! And I love not having to pay the federal carbon tax, and provincial carbon tax on gas here in Canada. Also, this guy has a lot of personal gripes, which are just his opinion. Half the things that he thinks are problems are things he just doesn't apparently understand. This is is an older video and many of those issues have been resolved.

To make a long story short, it's great to drive, as l,ong as you stay in the city with it, because it is a nightmare to charge it on road trips, and it takes 2 months, or longer to get a service appointment, 50 miles from where you live.
That's a big no for me. I am shocked anyone buys them, and you only pay $100k for it. I would not want one if someone gave it to me.

As a shareholder, thanks for paying so much for your Rivian. Wish there were more buyers like you. You're complaining about stupid little stuff that no one cares about. Things like door locks, wireless charging, lack of glove compartment, lack of screen responsiveness, shifting into park on its own and window up/down buttons not working are minor defects. Could be worse. Look at all you get for $100k.
