Painted matching helmets for a buddy of mine. please comment and let me know what you think.... and you better download some 'ONE SHOT DOWN" when its over!!!
@cbgraphics Thanks cb!! Wish he would have kept it,But oh well. I should have showed it to him after completion and he could have scene how I was gonna make it look as if it was coming out of the darknes. No biggie, he was happy and i got paid. Thanks for commenting... again!! i can always rely on you to comment on the video!! lol!!!
i dont have any helmet how to videos, just this one. i have a old motorcross helmet i was thinking of doing a video with later though. if you have questions just ask.
thanx for the info, im building an electric 2005 suzuki katana and just purchased an artic cat helmet to learn on, i learnt from your video and i suppose its a labour of love and you get what you pay for. amazing work well done from ontario canada :}
thank you! and yes you have to scuff the factory clear with 800 to 1500 grit sand paper. i prefer to wet sand . on your second question im assuming that you are talking about the paint that may build up from tape lines. If so , you should just let it dry and then lightly rub the build up with your finger and MOST of it should come off. DO NOT BUFF your design before clear!! if your airbrushing along the tape you shouldnt have that much, then your clear coat should cover it. hope this helps!
Yes, always clear coat.... ALWAYS!! thats what gave the helmets the glossy finish in the sun, its also what made the green kandy paint i used glow in the sun.
im working on figuring out how to do the visor as we speak, but yes i can paint one skull, just wait till my next video. i will post it late tonight or tomorrow.
Looks great! Should have kept the skull on the side of the monster symbol. That made it look more unique and different from all the other monster helmets. Im pretty sure MrSeamoney won't have a problem wet sanding it down and putting the skull back on.
when you scuff out the whole hood, use the grit i mentioned before and it won't scuff so deep. your airbrushing will grab fine to the area. when done airbrushing wash it with soap and water and clear it. you should scuff the whole hood for the clear to match. when you clear something that you scuff with 800 to 1500 grit the scratches the sand paper makes is not very deep and the clear acts as a filler and you will never see the scuff marks. put 2 or 3 coats of clear, then you can buff!
thanks!! i used base coat black from sherwin williams automotive. all of the airbrushing was done with kustom shop paint from TCPGLOBAL. you can use any automotive urethane paint through your airbrush if you thin it out enough. if you need any more advise message me and i will help as much as possible.
Just Sub'd !!! You are one bad dude with that air brush gun man . Some serious skills bro!!!! I enjoyed watching you at your craft !!!! Made me wanna learn to airbrush !
first scuff the whole helmet with red scotch bight to take the gloss look off of the factory clear coat. Clean with soap and water, then paint it whatever color you want the base color to be. after the base dries, airbrush your design. then once that dries, clear coat it with 3 or 4 good coats of clear. do not paint on something that is glossy, the paint wont stick. you have to knock the shine off first. mine just looked glossy while paintin because of the light. the outside view was after clear
thanks!! i dont know the name of the tape i used but you can get it at any automitve paint supply store. i have also heard that nubbs tape is great stuff also. i know you can get it at coast airbrush(dot)com. just look for 1/8 inch fine line tape.
yes it goes in that order except after primer you will want to add a base coat of paint in what ever you want the whole helmet to be. good luck and if you have another question just shoot it on over.
oh trust me, i agree!! it would have looked sweet!! i may just have to do it to see exactly how it would look!! it has been bugging me for 7 months now, lol!!!
i didnt think you were dissing at all and i agree with freehand is allways better. but i had 1 week to do these and the money didnt even come close to paying for the amount of time it would have taken. people love this stuff but for sure dont wanna pay what it is worth. i was just saying about the stencils, because people always ask that question when they start learning this. no hard feelings and again thanks for the compliment(s)!
Question: the tape, you used on the bottom sides of this helmet, to sketch the word monster, then cut it and peel off the rest, what is the name or the brand that you use?
I have never used Auto air, but they are good paints from what I hear. on this helmet I used Kustom shop, but I have since used Createx Wicked, House of Kolor and others which are all good to use.with a helmet you just want to make sure you use and Automotive Clear Coat with hardener in it to hold up to the abuse.
I use a normal automotive clear coat. anyone can buy it. don't know why your buddy said that. you can buy duplicolor clear coat at autozone. just follow the tech sheet and directions that comes with it. good luck with it and hope to see some of your work :)
it gets like an oil on water thing if your coats are to thick. I still use them but i think ive found a company that does polyurethanes that are better in colours as well. I don't really need water base since ive gone to high quality primer and clears. good filtterd extraction ect
thanks for the kind words Mick!! you will get there. i know its a worn out line but practice is all you need. i am using the Iwata hp-cs and the iwata Kustom micron in this video.
or you could do like i did and paint it black, the tape off what you want blue, then spray with white. after you have all of that the way you want in white, use a blue kandy color to put over the white. the kandy will make it glow in the sun after the clear coat. and if you want to really make it pop or glow use a silver pearl instead of white. also i would use a automotive 2 part clear instad of laquer. its stonger and will hold up better on a helmet.
Thanks for the compliments and im glad your gonna start painting. do you aibrush anything now or just starting out? as for the stencils, the one you see that im using are just printer paper that i copied the image i liked, cropped it to the size i wanted and printed them, and then cut them out of the printed paper. some are copies of real skulls and some are not,
you will have to prep it, prime it and get a flat automotive black and I believe you will clear it with flat clear as well. im not a painter, just an airbrusher, but know some stuff, lol!!
Hha i love to do that but it's so much for only painting, i know its hard to make, i own a airbrush but it's not easy, but i always learn from watching some video's! haha, Respect for this nice helmet :D
Thanks, one more thing - this is some special paper for logo contour, or its typical wide adhesive tape? I am going to paint my helmet on this week, so this is very usefull, thanks.
So does the order go: sand down Primer Mask off design etc then paint etc. When done painting, apply sealer then lacquer? (I'm gonna paint my own helmet shortly and want to gather as much advice as possible)
that is awesome man, you are so lucky to have the skill to do that. I wanna get a new Icon Alliance helmet and have it done to look like the maverick helmet from top gun (but with a black helmet not blue)
the only freestyle envolved with the letters was cutting them out of the masking tape. i transfered the letters with soral paper then cut them. also what paper are you talking about, so i can help more.
thanks for the reply:D i started out i'd say 2-3 months ago i airbrushed my gilera runner (not my profile pic i bought a new 1 recently) and whas looking for a new project and then saw your video and my old helmet being banged up and all it could do with some touchup:P also did some test panels with stencils i bought and some true fire but still got some practise 2 do on the true fire stuff:P its not as easy as it looks :P anyways again nice job :D greetz
Dude, this is epic. !! Never knew is this how helmets are custom painted. Skill level : Legendary!!
thanks!!

That is some true art!!!!
Yeah that was some bad ass air brushing!
Looks great! Should have kept the skull on the side of the monster symbol. That made it look more unique and different from all the other monster helmets. Im pretty sure MrSeamoney won't have a problem wet sanding it down and putting the skull back on.
Thanks!! I was using Kustom Shop paint and the airbrushes were Iwata HP-CS and a Iwata Kustom Mircon CM.

depends on what you would want on the helmet. these were $300 a piece. but it does depend on the design
I would love to see you go to work on a whole bike!!! that would be so good.
thats pure talent
@thegundammaker

Nice work! Not bad !
Love the music choice man.
So I want a mostly blue outcome.
After the primer, I'd spray it in blue, then tape off the areas I dont want blue then spray it in a different colour?
hello! i would like to know...if its necessary to use cream of polish after varnish or only the vernish its ok, after paimt all the helmet?
well im gladf you did leave a comment, lol!! Thanks for the compliments!!!
i have a matte black helmet, do I need to sand it before I spray pink paint on it... or spray lacquer first?
Came for the airbrushing, left with new tunage on my iPod. It's a good night.
Mad skills dude!
thanks!!
thanks, good luck on your next one. if you have a question just ask. i will help all i can.
What kind of prep work did you have to do to the helmet before painting it?
Thanks, one more thing - this is some special paper for logo contour, or its typical wide adhesive tape?
I am going to paint my helmet on this week, so this is very usefull, thanks.
good music and helmets
thanks for the kind words, Ivan!! im glad you liked it!
man that was amazing work i wanna to have one of them :)
dude, if you dont mind me asking, how much does it cost to do airbrush for a helmet?
So does the order go:
sand down
Primer
Mask off design etc then paint etc.
When done painting, apply sealer then lacquer?
(I'm gonna paint my own helmet shortly and want to gather as much advice as possible)
congratulations man,
very nice your job.

You have my respect.
I'm looking to get into this locally. Do you use a clear coat over the final product?
what did you use when you cut the monster stencil? i'm new to airbrushing so i don't know what to use. 5:20
a xacto knife
thats sum good stuff man very nice
the only freestyle envolved with the letters was cutting them out of the masking tape. i transfered the letters with soral paper then cut them. also what paper are you talking about, so i can help more.

Nice work buddy!
No I mean what you used for the monster logo's, did you run that through a vinyl cutter?
Sooo jealous, you rock.
thanks
