Just turned 71 yesterday so to celebrate 🥳 I had S&S mufflers added to my RE GT650. Been quiet all my life, so I wanted the neighbors to know I'm alive and kicking. LOL. My BMW R1250RS has cruise control and up & down shifter which I seldom use. Never had them on earlier 🏍 and I learned to ride and shift as bikes were meant to do. No back pains, seat so comfortable like nothing else, no wrist pains nothing. I'm 57, 5'10" tall with 32" inseam and 82kg. Got cruise control and heated grips on mine and also fitted a Givi rear rack with a 51Ltr box which was enough for my solo luggage requirements. I don't know if Dave had the same issues as I did before I fitted the rear rack but the only downside for me was that my back was always soaked in the rain prior the rack installation. Now it acts as a huge mudguard so happy with that. The bike sits comfortably at 130km/h without much windblast on the motorway. Yes it could definitely go much faster which is nice in overtakes and such but not for long stints, at least in my case. Dave said he felt cold from the windblast and you do when it's a little above 7 degrees but I've found that a rain over-cover both for your jacket and jeans would do wonders to keep you warm. The Triumph heated grips are wonderful by the way. Wish the cruise control was radar dynamic like the GS's though. Still, it's useful enough as it is.

Only idiots put panniers on nakeds or sport-tourers, these having the distinctive advantage of allowing the rider to lay on the tank bag and relieving all weight from the back. Fill the tank bag with as much baggage possible to keep the weight on the front wheel, and any extra goes on a backpack strapped on the rear seat.
In my travels I’ve met many riders solo touring on a Street Triple, the fuel stops just break up the journey. In my opinion you can tour on anything, just depends on the speed you want to travel and what you consider comfort. The bigger the bike the more unneeded luggage you take, as I get older I carry less and less and hand wash my smalls on the way.

Great vid Dave... I have just bought a new red RS. Had a GSXR1000 that was causing me a lot of grief in my wrists, tendonitis from a heavy clutch, neck and shoulder issues after about 80 miles. Done 400 miles on the RS and not had a single ache or pain... Its the perfect bike, imho 👌

No probs. I’ve done longer journeys and proper trips on the bike since making this vid and it’s beautiful and comfortable all day long. Love this thing!!
Loved the video and the photo of the Triumph and castle. I have a Triumph Speed Twin 1200, so it's naked and no cruise control. I've done at least 5 trips of over 430 miles this year on the bike; no motorways. Taking it to the Picos Mountains in Spain in September. So rider only touring on (any) naked bike is doable. For rider and pillion it's my 1250GS; we toured the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland (going back next year to do the second half from Galway to Malin Head). I think too many don't even try touring, they are missing out. You meet great people and see fantastic place no matter how far or where you go - just do it.
‘ I couldn’t be arsed’ brilliant 😂 there’s not many who pray for rain 😮 loving the commitment , what an amazing country you live in😎always a great video Dave👌🏼
Really enjoyed riding along with you on this test, very well done that's a decent shift, especially on a naked in those temps. Thanks for the well wishes too mate. Take care.
After i watched your nice and informative video i again think of taking my 22 Street rs for a longe journy to northern spain. Its is comfy ,reliable and fast. The other competitors are a 22 year old sv650 N (if i knew it will not make any problems i would take the SV) and a Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT. As the friend takes his vstrom 650 i fear i fear i would have problems to follow him with the heavy GT on narrow very curvy roads. The street would at least be lighter. And i love it ;-) .
Laid up on the sofa with a very bad back and hip after some off road excursions in Wales. Living vicariously through you Dave. Great vid. Always wondered how the RS would be on a longer trip. 👍
@@Englishbikerdan ah great to hear from you Dan although I’m sorry to hear you’re immobile…..the question is ‘was it worth it?’😉 Looking forward to seeing the vids mate.
Hello sir! :) I’m a proud owner of the same model (and color) myself; I’ve bought it in Triumph dealer in Dublin around three weeks ago and I love it. I decided to get heated grips as well as cruise control fitted by Triumph team but I didn’t use it so far.. By the way, I moved from MT-07, which I’ll be selling very soon ;) Soon, In a month I’ll have my own adventure - a long trip from Cherbourg to Rome and then from Rome to my home country, Poland (and then go back to Ireland) ;). I can’t wait! 😊 Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts, ideas, hints and overall positivity! All the best!
@@BartSzczepanski76 I owned a Triumph Sprint RS for more than a decade and then downgraded to a MT-07, because trips outside the city became much rarer, due to work. Now I am missing both the trips and a well set-up and performing bike, so I am considering buying a Street Triple myself, too. It will be the "R" for me though, since I prefer the lower seat as well as getting the power (even if it's slightly less) lower in the revs.
I’ve rode mine from Iowa to Colorado, Iowa to Arkansas and rode my trident 660 from Iowa to California and back. Completely do able, even with a tent and sleeping bag setup. Mindset and ambition. Also literally packing only the essentials 😂 love my street triple so much.
So I bought a 2008 Tiger 1050 in the USA which had been rebuilt and modded (about 115 hp on the back wheel on the Dyno) and took it across America Coast to Coast mostly on the i40 and some route 66 and other routes necessary to complete the 6500 mile trip in early spring this year. It was truly a trip of a lifetime. The bike blew a light bulb.. And I replace tyres in San Francisco.. That's is all. Supremely comfortable with a German split level touring windscreen fitted - no buffering. However, I am going to replace it with a naked, either a Kawasaki Z900 lRS or a 765 RS or maybe a 1050 RS. Thanks for this, it's good to know I can probably still use a 765 RS for long weekend tours. I am 49 years old, 5 ft 9 and 180 lb.
Wow your trip puts my day out to shame!🤣 Well done man. I’m doing Route 66 in September this year but I’ll be on a Harley Street Glide. Like yours, a trip of a lifetime. Can’t wait.
Excellent video!! Thank you!! I also own a Street Triple 765RS. Best naked I've ever owned. I only have some 1,300 miles on the ODO and the bike puts a huge grin on my face every day. Seat comfort is awesome. I'm the same height and inseem as you - so hearing you comments was confirming what I experienced. BTW... no long trips with the bike yet. But I feel this wonderful motorcycle is going to be my friend when pounding down some long miles.
Have been to France and Spain twice on my RS765 and did more or less 2300 miles each time. Took just one large Triumph ruck sack. No bother other than when stopped the bag had to go with you. No great shakes for me in the grand scheme of things.
Beautiful. Quite surprised you can go 700k in one direction in Ireland😄. I used to tour on a Triumph Street Twin. Just Strapped a back pack to the rear seat until I got a box for a bit extra stuff. Not ideal, I didn't know any better. Admit after doing this for a couple of years i really like my GS. I really like the heated grips on the GS. Getting cold in the rain, been there done that, stopped and bought a dry set of clothes rain gear. Funny, I never use my cruise control.
@@johnmacdonald1878 round trip mate. I’d be in a lot of water if I was able to go 700km in one stretch!🤣 You can’t beat a GS for this stuff but was really keen to see if it was possible on this bike….and it is. 👌
I don't do hardly any touring sadly. I'd really like too though! I keep the ole faithful nc as my touring bike, fantastic storage, quite comfy, throttle lock and screen. It works for me. Thanks Dave, good insight 🎉
Great vid Dave great camera work. Pity about the weather and the bellend driving the van. Lovely bike and perfect narrative of your experience as always buddy 👍🏻👍🏻
Love the Street Triple. Thinking I might get one when I finally replace by XSR900. The question about whether you can tour on naked bikes is interesting. Remember years ago, all bikes were naked and people toured vast distances on them. The real question is whether you're willing to forego the comfort of a touring or adventure bike when going long distances.
Only recently found your channel and am loving the videos. I can only afford one bike at a time so my GS is going to be sold. My only drama will be making a choice of what Triumph to buy. At the moment it is between the Striple RS, Tiger 900 GT Pro and I’ll also have a good look at the Speed Twin RS when released. I agree that Cruise Control is needed. I live in Australia and we often need to cover some big distances on motorways and highways in between twisty roads. Keep up the great videos mate.
Dave, As always - beautifully filmed 🏍️ Vlog. Really interesting to see roads + scenery , Cavan to Sligo on back roads. Much more interesting than motorways . Love the pic - Keep up the great work! 👊🙏
Hi Dave! HOW did you know this was the vlog I was waiting for?? 😅 Loved it. Same bike, same height, same inside leg, I'm 175 lb (still a chunky Yorkshire lass lol). Gorgeous scenery! I did 340km in May to test the touring capability of this bike. My feedback on the twisties is the same as yours. However, I forced myself on fast A roads and dual carriageways at constant speeds for the first 170km. The constant buffeting above a sustained 110kmh was really annoying (Neotec 3 helmet). Sustained 120/130kmh+ and I was praying for a visit from the fairing pixies and cruise control would be a godsend... LOVE my RS, but I'm hoping the Tiger 660 Rally is coming out end of this year for long rides (and a bit of off roading - in a rough car park 😂). SOOO good to see you carrying on. Cheers m'dear 😊
@@kathryntaylor8926 great info and feedback there Kathryn. Really interesting to hear about buffeting even with the same helmet as mine as I have experienced none of it…ever. It’s a weird science this motorcycling lark isn’t it?🤔🤣
@@WheelieGoodTV I found that similar speeds on the twisties didn't bother me at all. But that's going up n down through the speed ranges rather than just sat at a constant. But at any speed it's all WAY more fun than being sat in a 4 wheel metal box for hours on end 😁
Even though I'm originally from County Donegal, I am very fond of Sligo. Went to school there and have climbed Benbulben a few times. I remember very well the Mountbatten incident and all the activity at the time. The area around Lough Gill and Hazelwood, the inspirstion for W. B. Yeats' "Song of Wandering Angus", is well worth a visit. 👍
Considering a 2023> 765R in future so this was helpful. I ride s naked litre bike (CB1000R) in UK all year around understand rider warmth matters when its cold out there. Will be getting aome decent baselayer(s) soon. Heated kit can be good apparently but be minddul to cheack with supllier of airvest if same worn under kit. Good you mentioned the bar end mirrors (i prefer the appearance of same on this bike ), albeit on a naked the cold and wind can hit more when above legal speeds for any significant time. I ride on Road 6 also. I am in my 50's similar weight (until back to ky fighting weight 😅) simklar height & inside leg as you so this was helpful..... Maybe consider a flyscreen ...Triumph OE one best and also available in thst yellow Thanks

If the seat and riding position is comfy I think you can tour on pretty well anything but for me seat comfort is critical. I'm in Canada so summer weather here is rarely below 15C even overnight - during the day 25-30C. Getting cold is not really an issue. I have an FJR1300 and 2 hours at a stretch is enough especially 2-up . . .it does need a better seat. I was very surprised to see the 765RS has such a good seat - what a plus for a hooligan bike!
Strangely enough, the first day of my recent tour on it, when I stopped for petrol after a two hour ride my hands and feet were jittering from the vibration. Then when I stopped again at the next stop, nothing. It all went away! I'm pretty sure that our bodies are amazing and they get used to it as I never felt that again and I did some long miles on it. Can't explain it.
I've got a 24 765RS and I'm 55 , 6'1" 220 lbs. I could tour on it if the wind protection was a little better. At 70 mph its fine but the faster you go the rougher it is. As mentioned, people tend to bring to much crap on a trip. In 2002 I went from Texas to northern Wyoming on Honda Interceptor with nothing but a tank bag and some small soft luggage. I had about 3 days worth of clothes, my gear I had on and nothing more. The purpose of motorcycle traveling is the freedom and to travel lite. If you run out of clean clothes go to a laundromat.
That was Wheelie Good. Love the picture at the end! Was it as good as one of Richy Vida’s? Well at least you are better looking 😂 I Do hope you tune in this Wednesday!
Great video again on one of the shots it looks like your back pack is close to the rear seat cowling I would be gutted if that got scratched up if it was me.
I have 2x20 L Kriega bags that I use on my XSR900 and it works wonderful. You can have a surprising amount of kit with you, enough for a few days easily.
That was a great video, gave me more confidence to ride this beast for longer tours. can you suggest a long lasting tires for touring, stock supercosas are very much focussed on track purpose

Hi Mate, what tyres are you using? I heared the tyres, which the bike comes with out of the box are more track focused and not so good in cold / wet temperatures. It seemed you had no issues with that at all? Cheers
Have you had chance to try the remote for the Action 4 yet? I have mine on the brake fluid reservoir on bars so can easily reach it with right thumb, I only say this as you mention cruise for when you turn camera on and off. It also opens up other GPS data features within the recording.. Look forward to a review if you decide to have a look.
I have Kev and not had much luck with it tbh. I bought it to fire the two Osmo cameras at the same time and it keeps losing connection with at least one camera at a time so I ditched it.
Your videos helped me choose this bike. The bars are known to be vibey at times, a change of bar end helps a little apparently. Do you not fancy taking the stickers off tge tank, mirror and headlights?
Fair enough, your video on setting up the suspension was the last stage for me buying one. It was super stiff when it came and going to comfort mode plus dropping a few psi made the world of difference. I waited to get a yellow one of course!
Lovely photo, Dave. Would you consider putting the Triumph fly screen on the bike? I dont think it would ruin the look. Have you tried a heated vest? The wife is considering one as she feels the cold more than me.

I am 48... weigh 175 and I am very fit. I have the Street triple R 2024 and sorry but I don't agree with a word you say. This bike is NOT for touring and there is no way you can survive for more than 2 hours at a time! Im only saying this in order to let prospective owners know what their getting into. Its a great fast bike, awesome sound, excellent turning, beuatifull and easy to ride fast on twisty roads BUT NOT made for long rides. After 2 hours the pain in your back, legs and wrists starts to set in and the ride becomes unbearable (especially if your of some age and above). I ride with a group of STR riders and all agree with me about the long journeys.
Disagree wholeheartedly. I regularly make 2-3 hour rides with full gear, full sized sidearm, range bag with ammunition, a whole rifle, and other range gear. This is all on my back, not mounted or strapped to the bike. It is a supremely comfortable machine. 6 ft 205 lbs.
You must not be as fit as you think. You absolutely can tour on the Triple. I have ridden mine for 8 hour long trips and been fine. I am fairly heavy myself (93kg) and I would say I am very fit. It's not the most comfortable bike frankly but you can certainly tour on it.
Don’t agree - I’m 59 have a 2024 R as well. Did a trip from South Down in Ireland across on the ferry to Scotland then the whole width of the country to Holy Island on the East Coast. Nearly 7 hrs in the saddle, none on motorways couldn’t believe how comfortable it was. Went out on the lash when I arrived. I’m 5’11 12 stone. In my thirties I travelled all over a Europe on a ZX7 - that was uncomfortable
@phaedonkazanis7620 With my experience touring for 2 weeks, averaging about 450km/day, partly on roads so bad you could hardly even call them roads, i have to disagree. Of course there are bikes much more comfortable and suitable for that, but the sheer excitement and handling of the bike makes up for it. My take from that trip is that you can take any formula you like and make it work, it's all about compromise and priority.

@@cpuuk 🤣🤣 It’s funny that this is the resounding message coming from us older riders. Kids these days are spoilt with heated grips and windscreens!🤣👌
Was on the fence about this bike with long rides 4-5 hours but I feel much better after watching your video. Thank you!

By the way, I moved from MT-07, which I’ll be selling very soon ;)
Soon, In a month I’ll have my own adventure - a long trip from Cherbourg to Rome and then from Rome to my home country, Poland (and then go back to Ireland) ;). I can’t wait! 😊
Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts, ideas, hints and overall positivity!
All the best!
Oh wow, what a fantastic trip that’s going to be. Ride safe brother 👊🏻
Very cool! What a trip!! 🙏🏍️🎥
Many thanks. Yes this bike is surpassing all expectations, I think it’s incredible. 👌🏍️
Done a week around Scotland on my 675r...no problem!

@@brattonbiker6482 yes it’s amazing how we are all too accustomed to our creature comforts! Kids these days don’t know they’re born.🤣😉
Glad I came across your video! I am looking to do a little trip on my Triumph Street Triple! A day trip is a good start to see what I think about it!

Then when I stopped again at the next stop, nothing. It all went away! I'm pretty sure that our bodies are amazing and they get used to it as I never felt that again and I did some long miles on it.

I am 48... weigh 175 and I am very fit.
London to Cornwall and back is 6h each way. Not the most fun, i admit, but easy enough: you just get on with it.
I'm 60yo, 1.64m and 85kg
Cracking content. Photo was nice end and worth waiting for but your straight forward manner and enthusiasm makes the video for me. 👏👏🫡👍🏴
