In the USA, the base Pod is $2900 for the 'plane jane' model, basic straight wall base. Dome is 80" ID (only size they make). Shipping: Factory Pick up $0, to California $1200.
RV stores make weather proof tape which might work for you on those seams. It's prevents the RV from leaking in stormy weather. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

Awesome setup! Like most hardcore astrophotography geeks, I too dream of a permanent observatory. You should get Siri to respond to the name Hal and get a motor for your dome. Then you could say “Open the pod bay door please Hal!” If your lucky you just might survive the night. Cheers!

Mine is green, imported from Canada to France. It is used mostly for solar observing as I can turn the dome around to keep me protected from the Sun. Most of the wheels perished after a few years (climate tends to be a bit humid here in the Pyrenees) but they were easily replaced with roller skate wheels from a sports shop.

just seen the vid and found this on skysheds site... just passin info on .. i would think in ur case. maybe more north.. as it says south in the info ... Telescope is Offset to the South. Like many well known large observatories, POD is designed to have the pier/scope offset to the south, to take advantage of the busier Southern sky. In our case about 10" South of center. This also provides more work room to the North where you spend much of your time. DO NOT locate the scope in the center or Zenith can be obscured by the open dome flange. This is important!

Great video, Dylan. I appreciate you taking the time to show us the dome. I'll have to look into something like this. I've got a C14EdgeHD and CGX-L set-up which I'd like to make a little more permanent. As you say, it gets a bit tiresome having to lug it in and out of the house every time I want to set up. Cheers!

Yep. It's my planetary setup. I love it. Just got the mount a few weeks ago after having a Losmandy G11 for a few years. So far, so good. I'm enjoying the easier interfacing with wifi and other gadgets.

Cheers Jason! Would be cool to bring it back .. it's hard to find active astronomers ready to roll and/or host though and to have enough around the globe to ensure multiple feeds during any weather. Maybe we should try to organise a once-off comeback show :)
A steel mount pole would save a bit of space in there. No more set up and tear down time. Its a no brainer, I will have to save up my pennies for a bit.

I really enjoyed your video, as I had no idea that these units were even made. Based on the time-lapse & your narrative, I can see how committed to doing this in a big way. It appears you are using a single-hose air conditioner to stay cool. You might consider studying the differences between single-hose & a dual-hose air conditioners, as I think you could be more comfortable with a dual-hose unit.

Hi can you say if a plastic shed has any better properties or not compared to a wooden shed? I know a brick built shed can have an impact on temperature and equipment? thanks
What is the size? Is it a 2.2m or a 2.7m I'm looking to buy one but not sure what size to go for.
It seems to fit rather small telescopes? I have a 16"dob (more than 70" long) and that one will most likely not fit in there ore?
Would you say that it has helped astronomically? Sorry I couldn't resist. Seriously love your videos.

Thanks for the video and review. I dream of a permanent observatory. I would prefer a roll off roof as those dome models scream of expensive gear inside and are an invitation for unwelcomed visitors... you have a fence around so it is a bit out of sight. Is the irradiated heat from rooftops after sunset a problem for you? That is something I am worried about. Being in Australia, the planets must be really high , you locked out for the next 5 to years ;-)
Tempus Fugit I would prefer a roll off roof style too! I do like my latitude .. it’s the best of the Southern Hemisphere with a small sample of some typically northern stuff. (Eg andromeda)

Hey Man I'm thinking about coming out to Australia and do some shooting with my Nikon D810 and D750. I have a brand new Rhino Slider and Motion Package I want to use. I can even pack my Ioptron Sky Guider Pro. It would be cool to try and visit when I get there. What's the best time of year to come weather wise?
Try to come for Star Stuff ( see www dot starstuff dot com dot au ) .. it's winter and milky way season so more chances for dry, clear skies where you can see the Milky Way core.

Is it easy to rotate the pod roof? It sounds really stiff.
Science is awesome easy enough for one person though it can be improved with lubrication and wheel maintenance, the sky shed pod is a heavy roof. I’ve since swapped it over to a nexdome roof but am still using the very sturdy skyshed pod walls.

How does that work, or why bother with sooo omuch stuff around you? do you have a wide open area of the sky? I unfort live on a cul de sac and my backyard has too many trees close by I only see 15% of the sky approx.
I’m sure I see more than you by the sounds. But also when stuff is near the zenith it’s the clearest, so when conditions are good the data is good :)
A neighbour of mine was demolishing an 8x10 wooden shed. I helped him out and salvaged most of the wood then built a “clam shell” 5.5ft x5.5ft observatory shed for nothing (and it’s fully waterproof and I can see the zenith since the entire roof is removable. Just saying because the only reason, I guess, for someone buying one of these ridiculously overpriced astro pods which end up having issues, is because, like us all, we were all enamoured by those big “real observatory” rotating domes when we were kids.
Yeh but I am have a Nexdome now which is automated, waterproof and motorised so I’m one of those kids :) the original skyshed pod here isn’t much more than basic shelter though.
@@DylanODonnell So was I one o of those kids. I just wouldn’t spend thousands of any type of dollar on one when I could build a perfectly serviceable one with timber. Not automatic (yet and probably never) because I pull each roof section, by hand, on ‘gliding’ drawer rails. Takes 10 seconds.
Ultimate dork championship.... I’ll probably end up with one... *sigh

Dylan that is Great! All the pictures I saw earlier I pictured you with this huge dome out on some cliff if Australia! I see my NEQ6 mount on the ground and I see Hyperstar still in place. This was really fun, thanks for posting. I live in S Louisiana so it's pretty unbearable here as well. Have you given any thought to a pier? Kicking the tripod in those close quarters would make me insane. I'm getting one. No doubt about it. That way I can keep my Boarder Collie from sleeping up against my tripod. Sneaky little butthead. Last week he tapped on the leg and dropped a possum at my feet!
Hehe yeh I've been considering a pier :) And calling it "the easternmost observatory in Australia" is just a technicality .. hopefully someone with grander ambitions (or at least, deeper pockets) will take the title from me one day :)

if you can't stand with your telescope under a rotating dome with a single slot in it, I can't call it an observatory. Yours is more like a "scope shed."
